We've been dining at the Boatyard off and on for years. After breakfast yesterday morning we won't be. My wife and I are black coffee drinkers but hardly coffee snobs. When were served 2 cups of REALLY bad coffee that no amount of cream or watering down could save, we politely asked for new cups. The waitress response: not happy, she had made the coffee fresh, no one else was complaining, it would be a while for new cups to brew. When the next cups tasted as bad as the first, we didn't drink them. The waitress upped her arguments then: She had "polled" the rest of the restaurant and "everyone" said the coffee was amazing! Weird, we were the only ones, you must be really picky about coffee. Shes been working there YEARS and no one has EVER complained. We were floored. She did this loudly. The servers and our waitress were amazing. We had a party of 8 and they accommodated us quickly and were super kind. They brought everything out super fast and everything was amazing and very fresh. The lobster was some of the best we've ever had. So many options and all the food is incredible so there's no wrong choices. I chose the BBQ burger on my last visit, bacon, cheddar cheese, shoestring onions, tomatoes lettuce & bbq sauce , it was so good! My friend chose the surf & turf, she said it was absolutely delicious, her only issue is she felt she got short changed on the amount of lobster in the lobster tail. My nitpick is allowing people to smoke on the patio, I was genuinely surprised that this is legal in California and it made for a stinky displeasure on what was an otherwise good experience. Great food and great service. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Spencer our waiter was awesome. He didn't give me a hard time about making a change to my order. I got the battered fish tacos and shrimp on a corn tortilla instead of a flour tortilla it came with. The tacos were delicious and the fish and shrimp were fresh. My husband and I decided to eat here with our dog while visiting Ventura. The outdoor patio area was very nice, spacious and quiet! The full menu includes various alcoholic drinks, burgers, some classic seafood dishes (lobster, shrimp, salmon, scallops), and steaks. There's also salads and a small selection of appetizers. We ordered the Crab Dip, a bowl of clam chowder to split, and we both got the fishermen skewer combo plate. Everything was absolutely delicious! I had never had clam chowder before, so I'm glad this was my first try. It was creamy and pleasant, and I discovered that spreading a bit of chowder on the baguette slices that came with the crab dip, then adding said dip, was amazing. The skewers came with a big side salad and rice pilar, but we substituted the rice for potatoes. The beef and chicken skewers were delicious and perfectly flavored with their according sauces. The shrimp skewers unfortunately was very plain, for some reason the creamy garlic sauce didn't add much. We went to grab a drink yesterday. It was pretty busy, but the staff was awesome when I asked if we could just sit for a drink. They immediately put 2 tables together out front for our group of 7. Someone quickly came and asked for our order. We got a round of Mai Tais. Probably the BEST Mai Tai outside of Hawaii. So fresh, no bite and not too sweet! We put our name down and had walked around to kill time. Missed my phone call to be seated. Called them back and they were gracious enough to save my table while we walked back to them. Enjoyed our day out and would definitely return! Menus were not the disposal kind. Condiments were given when asked but again not 1x use style. My expectations for food at a touristy seaside/harbor eatery aren't typically very high but we got a surprise. The Alaskan cod fish was excellent. A light crispy coating with tender, moist cod inside. Was so good. The shrimps were fat as well as the scallops. I really loved the cole slaw, shredded thin, just enough dressing to keep it wet. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly. The fries had a nice seasoning, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Washed it all down with a cold blood orange wheat Pilsner, very nice. After a morning of waiting for service on our vehicle (flat tire on vacation), we (6 of us) made our way to Ventura from Oxnard. Our last stop before heading back to the VRBO beach rental was a stop at Ventura Harbor Village. We saw the Boatyard Pub from the parking lot and so that is where we stopped. We had a dog with us so we asked to sit outside. They were accomodating. We took some time to look over the menu before ordering a couple of beers, a couple of margaritas, a couple of bowls of clam cowder, fish and chips, a reuben, and a hamburger patty for the dog. The food was awesome. Good thick and hearty chowder. Light crispy breading on the fish. Mounds of corned beef and lots of cheese on soft marble rye for the reuben. The food was delicious. The drinks had mixed reviews. The beers were good but the margaritas were not well received. Complaints ranged from not enough alcohol to not being sweet enough. I am not the best person to pass judgement on the margaritas since I did not have one. These issues were spoken by the fam. As for the food and the service, this was a great lunch. read more

As service providers, we are overly critical of the service we receive. We tend to frequent only the establishments were we've received excellent service. Although this hasn't been our experience at Harbor Pub & it's only been "ok" service each time we've gone, the best clam chowder we've ever had brings us back. As we've become accustomed here, the server wasn't overly attentive & just dropped the check off, quickly taking off, without any "thank you" or asking if we'd like anything else first. We actually each wanted a cocktail & were considering dessert. The busser, Fernando, who had been extremely helpful throughout the night later asked if we were ok. He jumped at our request for cocktails & continued to be thoroughly attentive throughout the rest of the night. We normally ask to be as far away from the music as possible so that we can talk. If you ever walk through the harbor, you know that most of the restaurant bands tend to play a loop of more popular songs & it gets to be a bit redundant. At the same moment, we caught the sound of Pat Benatar's "We belong" which is a rarer & refreshing choice. Fernando was coming by frequently to check on us & when we expressed interest in potential sitting closer to the band, he quickly confirmed how much longer they would be playing. He also jumped at the chance to carry our drinks to the back patio & continued to check on our well being in an extremely pleasant way for the rest of our time there. The band, Oleander Falls, turned out to be incredibly impressive. The main singer was so good that we plan to visit any time they return to Ventura Pub & we can confirm Fernando is bussing. His excellent service will definitively ensure our return. read more

We went there for breakfast and were sadly disappointed. The breakfast menu is completely uninspiring. The only item that even crossed my mind was the Crab Eggs Benedict, and knowing we're in Ventura the crab would be more than likely imitation. You'd be better off at a truck stop. This place is a good example of the restaurant being supported by the locals who need to get their double shot Bloody Mary's to get them past their last night's hangovers. One would think that since this place is in one of the most sought after locations in Ventura, they would work on having a decent breakfast (pandemic or not)? Either make a decent breakfast or just stop serving it. Or,maybe they just don't care? The bar pays for everything? Who knows? The only redeeming quality about the food was that it wasn't very expensive, you get what you pay for? It may be ok for dinner or lunch, but as far as breakfast, we'll never go back.
