Wow!...the service was the worst! The hostess sat us in the patio...but we moved one table over so that we can see hear and see the musicians play. Then the waitress came up to us and in a very loud and rude voice said to us, as if we were mischievous children, that we cannot sit there because they are busy and need the bigger table. The rational was fine, and I would have understood and moved back if she explained nicely, but the demeaning rude tone of the waitress was such a turn off, my date and I ended up leaving after the scolding (after telling the manager of what happened). I use to visit the Boatyard frequently in the past, but I think I rather go to other bar/restaurants after this. read more

My son has cerebral palsy and double down syndrome, cancer and mental stupid. He walks on crutches and a wheelchair. Your server, Alex Callisto, kept on "accidentally" kicking and stepping on my sons legs. He broke them, and left severe bruising in one. I will kill him. He cant hide from me. I am angry with this establishment, while I was dining your server Alex Calisto spat in my food right in front of me, then he proceeded to say he was having intercourse with my mother on a daily basis. Been a long time customer here, and we are very aware that the service is typically not the best. However, we came for dinner last Wednesday and it was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. We were seated, and it took twenty minutes to just get waters, eventually our server Alicia or leesha? Greeted our table and took our order. It took another twenty to even get our drinks that didn't come out until food started arriving. Just a pet peeve of mine, I understand it gets busy but that's kind of unreasonable. Our server was completely mia and didn't come back until the end of the meal, although the bussers and food runners were amazing. When she came back, someone in my party had a question on their dish, instead of answering the question nicely she became argumentative and condescending. Part of her response was, "well I don't know what to tell you, I don't know whose regular you are." Meal ruined, to the point where she had a person in our party crying because of how rude she was. We didn't finish our meal or order more drinks, we ran out of there but not before making sure to tip the bartenders, bussers, and food runners because the bad server was not a reflection of them. Came here for dinner before the light parade. Everything was delicious but it was crazy busy and service was not the best. Understandably so we took it with grace and just reminded our waiter when we needed something. The kids also enjoyed their dinner and we left happy and full. Our favorite dish of the night was the teriyaki chicken skewers with rice pilaf and salad. The dressing was delicious! Im not exactly sure but I think it was a ginger vinaigrette. After a few days backpacking on Santa Cruz Island we were ready for a hot meal and cold drinks. We picked this place strictly on its proximity to where we came ashore. We're glad we did. What we were served, when we WERE served, without me not having to get up and ask for an ordered dish to be prepared & brought out, was MISERABLE! When I asked for a tea spoon to stir my tasteless ice tea, I was told, after being given a soup spoon, that soup spoons were the only spoons they had on site. The service was SO HORRIBLE as to be non-existent & prompted me to do something I have never done, ever before -- I left a $0,000.00 tip with a two word note, "Service Miserable". we came here to have the ahi tacos,which were loaded with fish, that we enjoyed last year when we were visiting the area. We were very disappointed this time because there was very little fish. It was mostly a cabbage taco with 3 very small bites of fish. The waitress took the plate back to the kitchen and was told by the chef that it was portion control. After that the chef kept looking at us and giving us dirty looks out his little window. The manager wouldn't even show his face to come talk to us. This place would get five stars if they replaced one of their bartenders. The food and drinks are awesome! Even if they just move her to the weekdays so we wouldn't have to see her on the weekends. So many customers leave when she works because she is so rude and gives the worst service. I'm going to paste the email that I sent to the owner a few weeks ago and never received a response back. My husband and I really like your establishment and the food and drinks are great. However, there is one bartender that always ruins our experience. We have observed her giving poor service to many patrons including ourselves. Not only does she have a snotty attitude but she gives untimely service. We often go to the bar and wait about 10 minutes to be greeted or to receive our first drink. Any other bartender that is there makes the experience so much better. Today, on New Year's day, we walked in and we're bummed to see this particular bartender. We were really wanting to eat there. She gave us one menu, did not take our drink order or offer us waters, walked away and started talking to friends for about five minutes. I had a martini and calamari then a small hazy IPA. I sang with the band for about 30 min... I handed the bartender my credit card saying "keep it open" and she closed me out . Then an hour later the band asked me to stay late and sing more at 9 pm. So i asked for the bartender to open another tab and serve one last drink at 8:45 pm. She refused ...saying we are closing at 9 ( but it was not 9 yet). So I asked manager and he stated i was intoxicated according to her ( but was not ...nor never have been accused of such a thing in my 69 years on this planet). Great American Old school restaurant. We were afraid that we were entering another over priced tourist trap while visiting the Ventura Harbor. But being we were all starving, we took the risk. Food was good quality, HUGE portions and service was very attentive. Prices were ok and about what any decent place charges nowadays. The only 2 cons we thought were VERY SALTY food, especially the Clam Chowder. And speaking of the Clam Chowder. We had one in our party who is a vegetarian. It is always good to start with a positive comment. So let me say that the food was decent. I would have given that 4 stars. But that was about all that was decent about the restaurant. I was part of a medical fund-raising group of 10. When an 11th showed up with 3 others in her family, there wasn't room at the table. The people at a nearby table said they were finished with their meal and were leaving shortly. Guess what? One of them went next door to the ice cream place and got ice cream for the table. The restaurant let them sit there and eat their ice cream for another hour. One would think that it would have been more beneficial to the restaurant to have someone use it's table space to order and eat food from the Boatyard Pub rather than the ice cream parlor next door. The four extras left. The next thing was our waitress. She really ought to consider a career change. Seriously. The person next to me wanted to taste an on-tap IPA before ordering. The waitress refused. She took the orders. I ordered a hamburger protein style (no bread) with the sauce on the side. No sauce came with my burger. The brioche bun was all shiny and nice. No lettuce wrap. There were too many of us to make a fuss. So I removed the bread and ate a piece of cooked hamburger. No ketchup. No mustard. Nothing. The purpose of the lunch was for us to be together. No one else commented one way or another about the food. So I let that pass. No one came around for refills on water, extra napkins. Next, the check! What a poop show that was. The waitress refused to separate the bill in any manner. We asked for the manager and she outrightly said, "No." We insisted. Still she refused to get a manager. She just had a bad attitude. Of course there was a 20% tip already added on. $36.00! We ultimately had one person pay and used Venmo to reimburse. Advice -- There are other restaurants in the Ventura Harbor where you will be greeted and served good food with kindness. Try them! read more

My visit to this establishment on Monday, 7/3/23 was a very unpleasant one. I have been to this spot a couple of times before and the customer service was good. This time around, customer service was absolutely horrible. First, the host was unfriendly and very unwelcoming. My partner and I had to seat ourselves near the bar. As we were sitting at our table, I overheard one of the female servers wearing a black baseball cap having a loud, derogatory conversation with some of the patrons who were sitting at the next table. Very unprofessional and rude! It took a long while before our server came to ask for our drink order. It just so happened to be the same female server who said something derogatory in my presence. We waited for the lunch menu and were told it would be another half an hour before we could order lunch. Several minutes went by and we still didn't have our drinks, 2 iced teas. We finally receive our iced teas but did not get any sugar. Another 15-20 minutes went by and still no sugar. It shouldn't take long for the server to complete such a simple task. The place wasn't even busy. We waited and waited...and waited...for the server to take our lunch order. Lunch time came and we still were not acknowledged by the server. She went back to the patrons at the adjacent table, and then completely ignored my partner and I. Another 20 minutes went by without the server in sight. At this point, I was tired of waiting for the rude server to take our order. She was on the other side of the restaurant when my partner and I decided to get up and pay the bartender for our 2 iced teas. We were done. The bartender summoned the rude and clueless server of ours. The server gave us an attitude and did not apologize for making us wait! This lady has some nerve. She needs to mind her manners and learn customer service skills! Get a clue, lady! We took our business elsewhere. read more

Originally stopped by this shopping center to grab a drink. The bar that we grabbed a drink from recommended Boatyard Pub for some amazing seafood. Definable didn't disappoint! My husband and I are were first drawn in by the live music, as well as the ambiance. You walk in, and get greeted right away. The entire restaurant feels like you've telaported into a pirate ship. The bar team was hospitable and knowledgeable about the entire menu. Even the live musician (Kenny) was really welcoming and hospitable. (Lovely music too, btw). Since it was our first time here, we wanted to share a few items. We did a cup of the chowder. Rich, and creamy. Plenty of clams. We'll most likely order it again in the Sourdough bowl next time! We also split the Shellfish Delight. Lobster tail, prawn skewer, scallops, salad, rice pilaf and garlic bread. We thought we might want to try something else, but this was plenty of food for the both of us! Everything was perfectly cooked! It gave us a great intro to what else Boat Yard Pub has to offer. We've been coming to Boatyard as regulars for close to 4 or 5 years. Why have I not written a review yet? Not sure, but I feel like it's time as this is such a local gem. There are a few things that you just can't duplicate without experience: 1) The Staff. (again, #1). So many members of the staff have been here since we started dining and they truly make this place go round. Special shoutout to Julie; not only is she an awesome bartender/server, but every time I am there, she knows 60-70% of the people at the bar on a first name basis. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE COME BACK. It's like the Cheers of Ventura. Also, today there were a couple difficult women and I watched her handle them kindly and professionally. 2) The menu is GREAT. Hot crab dip, chicken skewers, tacos, kids menu (and more)...pretty much everything is awesome and consistent. 3) The drinks. The drinks are made well. Strong. Good. Consistent. 4) Patrons. The patrons here are sooooo good. It is old school Ventura meets new Ventura. Sometimes you walk in and there is a boat-full of fisherman who just got off the open sea. Once I walked in and everyone had just quit off a boat-- it's always a welcoming, fun, colorful group with stories galore.
