The dish our replacement scallops came in (and should've round one)
    Rebecca G.

Ugh! Another disappointing meal here! We ordered the captain's seafood broiler $45!!! Major false advertising for this meal! As described "jumbo sea scallops and jumbo wild king prawns" ...and a 4oz halibut fillet. Ok so the 3 scallops were raw and the 4 "jumbo king prawns" were tiny. Not sure what they were? THEY DEFINITELY WERE NOT JUMBO KING PRAWNS! Small shrimp is what they were! We asked our server Javier who was such a nice guy and attentive throughout our meal THANK YOU!! We asked if we could have the scallops cooked more and he kinda chuckled and brought over a small plate and took the remaining 2 back to the kitchen. He brought out the most delicious scallops on a skewer, in a nice little ceramic boat/dish with this amazing creamy buttery sauce! My only question is? Why? Why didn't the cooks make it this way the first time? Seriously restaurant quality is not what it used to be! I really don't want to just chalk it up to "These are the times we live in" but back in the 80's/90's when I worked in the restaurant industry this wasn't acceptable. Just saying. Boatyard? I encourage you guys to up your game! I hope the owner or management reads these reviews I've left over the years? We've had some concerning issues with past dining experiences and no one has ever connected with me about them? And yet we keep coming back with the HOPE that things are better! That y'all have ironed out the bugs! But no. Mediocre is whats consistent. ...so do I recommend this beloved local spot? Very pricey. Mediocre food. Drinks are hit and miss... Good live music most of the time..: I don't know? Maybe yes? Just go with low expectations.

Courtney C our server was very attentive and friendly. Nice Friday evening atmosphere with great music and Dodgers game on in the background. The cocktails and clam chowder are awesome!

Great food, great location, great vibes, what more could you want for a Sunday brunch? Don't look any further because Boatyard pub hit all those marks for me this past weekend. Located on Ventura Harbor with plenty of parking on site. 1st hour of parking is free when you scan the QR codes posted through out the lot, you will need to pay after the 1st hour. Just a heads up on this. This resteraunt has a great menu with a nice variety. Prices are ok, your on the beach what can you expect. They recently got renovated so the restseraunt is really nice and modern. My service here each time has been good. This last time I grabbed an order of calamari and a beef crunchy taco and they both were INCREDIBLE. The calamari was cooked to perfection and such a large order. The beef taco was incredibley flavorful and probably the best beef tacos I've had in Ventura county. Overall the food here is very tastey so come on down here and give them a try.

My mom and I got seated right away and they even have a bluegrass band playing which was wonderful. We got some drinks and they also brought waters. All of the servers were very friendly. Our waitress told us her favorite was the Hawaiian Ahi poke appetizer and it was amazing! My mom doesn't normally like raw fish but she tried it and loved it. We ordered fish and chips and I got the grilled cod with rice pilaf. And my favorite off all the items was definitely the Hawaiian Ahi poke then the fish and chips. The batter on the fish and the flakiness of the fish was perfect. The poke was perfectly seasoned and tender. We also shared a cup of clam chowder and the clams were tender not chewy at all!! The only thing that was just ok was the grilled fish. It was under seasoned and overcooked. The pilaf was yummy. I still ate the grilled fish because I don't like to waste food but I needed to season and add tartar sauce and I never like to use tartar sauce. We will definitely come back to Boatyard pub, they have a great staff, great music, delicious drinks and shareable fish and chips.

    Horrible rude manager. Stephanie Greco

I know it's been a couple of weeks, but I wanted to share the very disappointing experience my mom, cousin and I had at Boatyard Pub with one of the managers, Stephanie Greco. We had barely gotten to our table and hadn't even put our belongings down when we stood up to ask if we could sit at the table directly behind us instead. Rather than simply answering our question, Stephanie was extremely rude and spoke to us as if she were scolding us for getting up from the table. The way she handled such a simple request was completely unnecessary and made us feel very unwelcome. I've been coming to Boatyard Pub with my family for about seven years. We've brought many out-of-town guests here because we've always loved the food and, until this experience, usually received great service. Unfortunately, the way Stephanie treated us was so unpleasant that we decided to leave and go to Brophy Bros instead. Customer service, especially from a manager, should never make longtime customers feel embarrassed or unwelcome over something so minor. Sadly, Brophy Bros may now be our new go-to spot.

3 years later and boatyard pub is still one of my fave places to grab a drank and apps when the sun is out and the fresh air is coming in through their patio. We ordered : Cup of clam chowder always hits the spot for me here. When I feel like splurging I'll have it in their bread bowl. 5/5 Calamari was cut and battered light just the way I like it but it was a bit on the greasy side like others had mentioned. Nothing that would stop me from ordering again though. 4/5 Ganja roll was not it for me. It sounds like a sushi roll but definitely is nothing like sushi. It's tuna, rolled with shiso leaf and tempura battered them fried. It was very bland on its own but a little better when double dipped in their sesame fire sauce and ginger ponzu . 3/5 Spinnaker's hot crab dip was so creamy and delicious on its own but then I topped it with a side of their coleslaw (the one that comes with their fish n chips and not their Asian coleslaw) and it was even better! Don't knock it till you try it .5/5 Fish n chips in my opinion is pretty good here. It's lightly battered and not too greasy . Fish is juicy and tartar sauce just right . That coleslaw is perfect with it . 5/5 Mai tai hit the spot. Not too sweet nor too tart . 5/5 Cucumber mojito was a good refreshing balance of cucumbers, mint, lime rum and spritzer. 5/5 Service is usually always good. When they get busy they get busy . Be nice, they're trying to be in 5 places all at once.

Probably one of my go tos when at the Ventura Harbor. My sisters and I love holiday themed bars this December boatyard had those cool Christmas drinks and nice holiday decoration. The drinks are pretty strong and good. We also ordered fries which were so good and the calamari were actual calamari. None of that fake stuff. Staff was nice even though we stopped in an hour before they closed. I love the new patio, but it was too cold for us to sit outside when we went. We definitely will be back since we loved the service food and drinks.

SERVICE: Located right at the pier. The parking rules are different now, haven't been around for a bit. Live music and across from ice cream if you dare to force more into your belly. Decent view of the water from where I sat. Servers, though rotated literally 4 times on us, were fine. FOOD: Really enjoyed my fish and chips. Fish was battered well and the fries were nice and hot. I'm never impressed by anyones slaw but this wasn't bad lol. I'd recommend this plate. WELL: I shall return.

The service was excellent and the food was good. Nothing really jumped out at you. We had fish and chips. They were the signature dish here. They were ok. The clam chowder was their other hitter. It was ok. Most things were ok. The fried shrimp were the best thing but nothing special. Really the price to value proposition hurts this place. It was ok but the prices demand excellent. It's an ok place.

Steak and Lobster and steak and shrimp dinners. Side salads are huge.

New Year's Eve dinner here was great! The steak and lobster special $24 was superb. Prompt service by Jorge. Food came fast and was a very generous portion. Fun atmosphere and the area was decorated beautifully. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Salad portions are huge. Ask to be delivered on a separate plate.

Wow! Where has this restaurant been hiding from us? Without plans, we decided to enjoy breakfast at the Boatyard Pub with a group of 11 and a dog! They were so accommodating! The menu has a great selection of breakfast favorites. I had the Brioche French toast which was delicious. The service was on point and we had a great time! Make sure to stop by when you're in the Ventura Harbor!

They made more space and seemed to provided more support to their staff, which is great if given the right supports! And keep MackandD coming back and back, they are simply amazing muscians.

Crab dip, cup clam chowder and most ridiculously over priced we'll drink ever.
    Randy M.

Originally wanted to go to Brophy Brothers but it was a Saturday around 6pm and the wait was an hour. Ended up at the pub and ordered clam chowder (ok), crab dip (good) but came with bread that would have done better toasted or somehow crispier. Order seafood combo with fish (ok), shrimp (over cooked) and scallops (good). They had music so we asked to be seated away and they accommodated. Service was ok. Could have gotten something similar at Red Lobster cheaper and my biggest gripe was cost of well drink being same as specialty drinks. Will not be going back.

There's an outdoor patio with birds swooping by for free entertainment, and they'll even bus tables when you're not looking. One thing to note: The menu is filled with lots & lots of good choices. A case of indecision threw me for a loop when I read over the menu. To limit down my 7 first choices (yes 7), I managed to decide on something locally caught or farmed. My first thought: If I'm at a harbor, I'd like to eat fresh fish that's locally harvested. I was craving FISH TACOS but discovered that they're "flash frozen fresh" and not local. Then I thought a bowl of BROPHY'S CLAM CHOWDER would be good under the same principle. They're not local clams. The FRESH CATCH FISH & CHIPS, however, were caught locally (but I had that the night before so the timing was off). Quickly, I pivoted and ordered my original first choice. * CAULIFLOWER SANDWICH * It's locally farmed. An unsung hero on the menu, it's made with pickled onions, large, breaded cauliflower patty, green onions, lettuce, and pickles. It's filled with a roasted garlic sriracha aioli that adds a nice kick and pulls all the flavors together. The portion size is also very filling. * KID'S CHEESEBURGER * My kiddo enjoyed the tots that came with it and we added some extra greens for a small up-charge. Worth it. The portion size was more adult-sized so it's a good value for your buck. Other tasty items on their menu: WAFFLE STICKS, AVO TOAST, and BREAKFAST BOWLS. There's also CORN DOGs, Grilled Cheese, and Seafood Salads. See why it was so tough to decide?! After all that contemplation and heavy decision-making, I built up a three-person line behind me. It seemed that a few senior locals were battling a case of getting hangry. I don't blame them, but I also think a good tip is to not go there too hungry because it'll be near impossible to order quickly. So please leave your case of the Hangries for the birds. The sun, harbor, and that view should be a reminder to chase it away when it starts to bubble up.

Last Sunday we were ready to get out of the relentless summer heat of the east side of the county,…read moreand headed for the coast. I told Dear Hubby that fish & chips at the harbor seemed like a great idea, and he agreed. Initially, I tried to get us a table upstairs at Brophy Brothers, overlooking the water. That was going to be about an hour's wait, so we retreated downstairs to Brophy's fast casual option - On The Alley. Essentially, it's the same fish & chips recipe, so all good there. The line was short and moved pretty quickly. While DH finished up ordering, I went out to the indoor-outdoor room to scout a table. I wasn't able to get one against the window, but we were still able to have a water view, just a bit further away. DH was hungry, so he ordered a burger, as well as the fish & chips. He shared a small portion of said burger, and it was really good. At a Brophy's establishment, I think of seafood, but thumbs up on that burger! The portion of fries they provided were extra generous. We missed having Adored Granddaughter with us, as she would have help demolish those fries! We brought some home to revive in the air fryer. I only had water, as they don't really have any beverage options that work with my restrictive dietary preferences. (i.e., no caffeine, and low- or no-sugar). The fish & chips hit the spot, although the fish was somewhat oilier than usual. DH got a cup of their delicious clam chowder, which was served with their delicious sourdough bread. That I got to have some of, and happier for it. Sunday afternoon at the harbor made for a great spot to people-watch. There were lots of folks who seemed like they had come from points east to get a break from the heat, just like us. We all tend to have a look that doesn't portray "Ventura local". Lots of young families, which was nice to see. Made us miss our granddaughter, for sure.

Walked right over to Dukes which is literally foot steps from the beach. I ordered to go this time so I could get back to parenting and enjoying the weather. Had to be quick so I could enjoy my time before it cools down and my sunburn fully sets in. I ordered the Gizmo which is basically a grilled chicken club on sourdough. It was great. Really don't have anything to add to that other than I would highly recommend it. Anyone who doesn't love a chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich might have some taste bud issues... It came with in-house made potato chips and those were also wonderful. I smashed that thing and literally went right to sleep in my chair. What a perfect beach day thanks to Dukes. To add to my food experiences and recommendations here, the time before this, I ordered the fish and chips. In my case it was the fried fish and sweet potato fries. It was so flavorful and crispy. I highly recommend eating it there or hopefully near by so it doesn't lose that fresh crunch. However, you have to get any and all fries with their Ranch. I had to get extra as I couldn't seem to get enough. Obviously every fry needed to have a disgusting amount of ranch on it. The first thing that caught our attention was the self-serve wine dispensers lined with bottles ready to sample. We had a lot of fun walking back and forth, looking over the different selections, and deciding what to taste next. Being able to sample wines by the ounce before committing to a full glass made the whole experience feel interactive. I especially liked that I could compare different Cabernet Sauvignons side by side, which isn't something you get to do very often. After trying a few different Cabernets, Chimney Rock ended up being my favorite. The dining room added to the experience. The cave-like ceilings, warm lighting, and comfortably spaced tables made it easy to settle in, enjoy our lunch, and catch up without feeling cramped or rushed. If you enjoy trying different wines, it's easy to lose track of time here. We started with a cheese plate, which turned out to be much more generous than I expected. It came with a nice assortment of cheeses, crisp apple slices, grapes, candied walnuts, crostini, and a savory relish on the side. It was a great dish to share with our wine. My friend ordered the tuna poke tower, and we shared the cheese flatbread and sweet potato fries. I went with the Original Cave Salad with salmon, which came with a generous piece of perfectly cooked salmon over fresh greens, apples, grapes, walnuts, and blue cheese. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous enough that we left completely satisfied. One thing I appreciated was that we never felt rushed. Lunch naturally turned into an afternoon of catching up, comparing notes on the different wines, and deciding which pours we wanted to try next. Before we left, we wandered through the wine shop one more time. If you discover a favorite during lunch, you can pick up a bottle before heading home, which is a nice touch. I'm really glad my friend found this place. The next time I'm in Ventura, it'll definitely be on my list again.

We came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. We each ordered a cocktail. She got a blueberry margarita and I got a cucumber gin mixed drink. Both were refreshing and delicious. We ended up ordering another round. For appetizers we ordered the crispy maple Brussels and tuna & salmon tartare. The Brussels were fried to perfection and glazed a sweet maple syrup. It also came with thick cuts of bacon. Definitely recommend this. For the tartare, it was also delicious and fresh. It was mixed with avocado and turnip. We thought the turnip would be off putting but it actually meshed well with the flavors. Came with fried wonton chips. For the main course we shared the NY strip and Lobster Malfaldine. The steak was cooked to perfection with a very nice sear and flavored well. Probably one of the better steaks I've ever had. Definitely beats out any steakhouse steak. The Lobster Malfaldine was also absolutely delicious. Most of the time, lobster pasta is usually a bit bland and lacking in lobster. NOT HERE. They included big chunks of lobster and the sauce was so good. Lastly, we ended our dinner with the Strawberry Hand Pie. This is basically a warm strawberry strudel with vanilla bean ice cream. They used locally sourced strawberries and I'm still thinking about it as I'm writing this review. Adrienne was our server and she was very nice and attentive. Since it was my girlfriend's birthday, they comped our dessert. Super nice staff!

However the quality control & staff members are sadly inconsistent. They are slow to greet slow to check back in (poorly trained). Some times the Bloody Mary has salt sometimes not, sometimes there is 5 pieces of bacon for breakfast sometimes 3. Food often comes out not at the same time so some items are cold while others just arrived (again poor training). At that price point everything should be on point!

Beer Pressure…read more Classic American Pub located in Ventura that features over one hundred beers on tap and classic American comfort foods in a surprisingly family-friendly environment. The Good: * Beyond all the beers on tap, they also have a full bar. * Service was friendly and pretty good overall. * Secret menu for both food and drink. Shhhh...! * Their wings were fantastic! You've really gotta try the Strawbanero (Strawberry-Habanero) sauce, as it was a sweet and savory bite that had all three of us fighting over. * Buffalo Barrels (aka Tater Tots) were worth the $5 upgrade. But, I'm somewhat of a Tater Tot junkie, so take that advice for what it's worth. * Fries were fantastic, as well. * Short Rib Melt was delicious, but very, very rich. It could've used a little relief like some pickles either on it or on the side. The Meh: * They do have their own parking lot, but it is smallish and can fill up fast. There is some street parking available, as well. The Ugly: * They had a lot of beers that were out of commission, including several that I was pretty excited to try. =/ Conclusion: Great spot to get your suds and spuds!
