Had breakfast this morning around 10:30 before walking the art festival. Was greeted nicely by the hostess who seated me right away. The place was packed already, many partaking in the alcohol. I had the eggs Benny which was very good. I think there was a dusting of cayenne pepper on top, which gave it a nice kick! Hash-browns were nothing special, neither was the iced tea. They stop serving breakfast at 11. My waiter was nice, but didn't get his name. All in all I'd probably gone back and try lunch. read more

We tried several clam chowders the past few days while visiting the SB area and honestly this was the best one so far. There were more clams and bigger sized pieces than experienced elsewhere. They also toast and grill the bread bowls so they get props for proper serving of a sourdough bread bowl. I ordered a cup of chowder and the halibut, scallops and fries meal and I couldn't finish all of it. I really enjoyed the scallops the most. But next time I would probably just want to try a burger or just the clam chowder bread bowl. Service was good and the place seems to be a favorite spot by the local fishermen and sailors. read more

We've been here a few times now (both for breakfast and for lunch), and the food is always good. For breakfast, they make a really good Bloody Mary, and the California Crab Benedict are delicious - you can tell that the fish is fresh which just adds to the overall flavor. For lunch, the calamari is a good choice for appetizer & the chipotle sauce for dipping just brings it to that next level. Their fish in general is good - my husband particularly liked the Shellfish Delight as it provides a good variety of fresh shellfish. While the food is good, this is the restaurant we eat at while already at the harbor trying to decide what to eat - it's not one of our destination restaurants. They have a full bar here with a variety of beers, wines, and specialty cocktails. They make a good margarita here - I particularly liked the Strawberry Margarita Fresca. Since the restaurant is on the harbor & beach, parking has the potential to be rough when you go. However, we have never had a problem finding decent parking to eat here. read more

I have been a local at this establishment for over 15 years. We love coming here. We've had so many great experiences here. The last month we have tried to come here numerous times put our name in, quoted a time. Tonight we were quoted a 40 minute wait at 6:15. It's now 830. I've tried to call several different times and told that we are on the waitlist, the last time I called at 7:30. They told me I'm two parties behind. We just came at 8:30 to check our time and they said that they called us but that the phone number didn't go through? I asked them to show me where they called me on their caller ID and they said that it only goes back to five people? Anyway, the whole thing was so unfortunate and ridiculous. I will never be coming back here again. It's so sad. We talked to several local people who were also trying to get into have dinner tonight and they also shared the same frustration. What a bummer. I have been going to the boatyard for many years for great drinks, food and dancing to bands. A few weeks ago I went by myself thinking how safe I felt there. Saw a friend and had a very bad experience with a waitress. We both have Never been treated so rudely in our life. Again I went with my friends and another waitress got very upset that we went and ordered drinks at the bar when we were sitting at a high top just by the bar. I asked the bartender ti put our drinks on her table but apparently they were worked something out together and I gave her a table use tip. I respect waitresses as I have been one. This possessiveness was never there before the addition. I would still like to go there but am not very comfortable anymore. Was one of my favorite places. May try to just sit at bar but when owner and management was approached they stood by the waitress that was so rude. Minimally should have gotten an apology but she lied about what she said and he believed her over the customer. Sad for me and apparently 8 other people that refuse to return because of rude service. Plus 3 of my friends I usually go there with. We will choose differently now. read more

Casual dining at Ventura Harbor. We were there on a busy Friday and were seated and served quickly. Everything seems pricey to me, it seems like all restaurant prices have increased I. The past few months. I had chicken skewers, absolutely delicious and a generous portion of chicken, rice, and salad. The salad is on the plate with dressing on the side. I prefer mine separate and tossed in the kitchen. It makes more work for the kitchen and dishwasher, I am sure that's why they do it. I do like getting my food quickly. Hubby had ahi tacos and loved them. They have a great selection of local beers and specialty cocktails. They have inside, bar, and patio seating. I am pretty sure you could bring your dog. The server and bus staf were cordial and well organized, even the other patrons are friendly. Many boat people. COMPOSTABLE TO GO CONTAINERS. Big plus in my book. read more

I always worry about restaurants on piers or dock side. But the food was really good 1- ambiance Kid friendly. Lots of folks there with their young kids. It's a fairly olde school nautical design 2- food Wow, it was really good. The fish and chips were batter lightly, the fries were done very well, not greasy at all. The calamari appetizer was awesome. They aren't kidding when they say it's fresh. The fishing boats are literally docked next to the restaurant And they give very generous pours of their mixed drinks. Make sure you have a designated driver. read more

I'd been craving live music so when I saw that Boatyard had bluegrass and a full menu I was sold. I dragged my husband here and we got a great seat at the bar next to the band. It was such a fun night, everytime we looked over the band grew and by the time we left I think there was 7 musicians! We ordered the crab dip which was delicious and split an order of the fish and chips. The ambiance was dive bar but make it a restaurant near the beach. Originally tried this place over a year ago for breakfast & got the corn beef hash. Was not impressed. It was on the dry side and lacked flavor. Decided to try Boatyard pub again last week w family. Ordered the fish and chips with a bowl of chowder, kids meal chicken strips for my daughter. Gave them another chance due to hearing on the radio about them having the best chowder. Service was really slow and it was far from being busy. Considering the time it took to get our food I figured it would at least be hot and fresh, yet it wasn't. First of all-we love this place, such nice people, some really fresh seafood and really chill vibe. But we went there today after we heard they remodeled-only to find that they had completely enclosed the front outdoor dining area, the ONLY place there to get sun...at a restaurant by the BEACH. Just a crazy decision. The new enclosed addition looks like any other restaurant now. Generic and claustrophobic. In the past outdoor area, people could bring dogs, soak up the rays by the beach, people watch, etc. All gone now. What a shame read more

I was in the area as a visitor. After reading the good reviews and rating, my partner and I decided to give it a try. Who knows I would be giving a one-star after dining here. First, I agreed with some of the previous reviewers, the service was horrible. Our server never introduced herself. She came to our table to take our orders for the drinks. She just turned her back right away while we were ready to order some appetizers to start with. It took her a good 8 mins to pour some craft beer to take it to our table. The restaurant wasn't busy at all at that time. I wanted some extra napkins and I had to ask for THREE times. Our server dropped off our bill at the table but never came back for the credit card. I was annoyed by waiting for any servers to come by, I just went to the front and paid there. Food wise, I don't know what to start with. Our main dishes came before our appetizers. The hot crab dip was a nightmare. It was simply melted cheese with a little bit of veggies, we did not taste any crab at all. Also, it's $15.99 for a medium size. The baguettes were clearly not fresh, which was fine but at least please warm them up. The captain's combo contained fish and chips, scallops, shrimps, calamari and coleslaw on the side. The seafood was frozen and being reheat, very greasy. The baby scallops were a joke, I only tasted the batter. This dish was too oily, not fresh. Plus, that made my partner feeing sick that night. I will not come back for sure, very disappointing. Food was not fresh, expensive; service was horrible. It ruined our date night. read more

Love this place. It's a hidden gem in Ventura Harbor. I never hear of a Pub/sports bar specializing in seafood before but it is great. The shellfish combo with scallops prawns and lobster is comparable to the best in Boston and New York. I've also had the salmon and halibut. both excellent. I haven't tried the fried items as I lean towards favoring grilled but the variety of choice is great. I liked the clam chowder too. read more

Although I love the interior and find it welcoming, I'd say the only negative is the fact that this place is not on the water nor can you see the water from the business. You are only a quick walk away though and close so still a great location! If you look at the website, it looks like you are eating at the water edge (they must have dragged a table a couple hundred feet or so outside the business for the picture). You are not, so don't go for this experience. I would still highly recommend though! read more

I hit this place up just about every trip to Ventura, which ends up being 2 to 3 times per month. The pictured item is one of my favorite combos, the Wild Jumbo Shrimp Tacos with a cup of chowder. The thing that sets them apart is the spicy "Da Kine Sauce" they drizzle over the shrimp (or Ahi if you chose those tacos). The combination of the tacos paired with the cup of chowder, leaves me barely able to eat the whole thing...! The servers and bartenders are nice and are quick to bring everything you need, when you need it. The place offers live music some nights which is great too. The inside decor and vibe is the dark wood of a fishing trawler or square-rigger ship from the days of old. There's also a nice patio outside if fresh air is preferred. read more

Went Tuesday evening to check out the remodel, very nice work there. We sat in the back patio near the bar. They were fairly busy as it was about 6:00 pm and there was live music on the other patio. One server was handling every area of that restaurant that I could see he was doing a fantastic job but he could not keep up. The food was a bigger problem, I ordered steak and scallops. I have never seen a steak portion so small in any restaurant I've been to, perhaps 4ozs and three small to medium sized scallops side salad and fries on the same plate 40.00 dollars! We came here last night before the Christmas light boat parade and snagged a nice seat outside. I started with a cup of clam chowder and did the chipotle club sandwich and my husband also started with the clam chowder and had the fish tacos. Let me start by saying this is some of the BEST if not the best clam chowder I have ever had. I have eaten a ton of chowder all over and this is easily top contender. My husband said the exact same thing we couldn't believe how good it was he even asked the owner who said they had been perfecting it for about 6 years now. If you go here and like clam chowder it's an absolute must!! The chipotle club was also delicious the sauce is really nice just a hint of heat and the large steak fries were also great. My husband liked the fish tacos but said they could of used a little more sauce or something to elevate them. He said if the chipotle sauce from my sandwich was on the tacos they would of been bomb. Service was great and food took a little long to come out (cause restaurant was packed) but nothing too crazy. All and all we had a great time and will 100% be back for this chowder in a huge bread bowl next time! read more
