Met my girlfriend for breakfast at Bob & Edith's Diner in Manassas. It was suggested to go there for breakfast and since I had never been we went. We were greeted as soon as we arrived and seated. The restaurant was bright and clean. The atmosphere was warm and pleasant. The food was okay. I don't know what I expected but it was just okay. I had the homemade biscuit with sausage gravy and my friend had eggs and bacon potatoes. Everything looked good but tasted a little bland. read more

Late Post: was there brunch time on the 29th of September. It was a Monday so it wasn't busy at all. It was the first time I've been there (to that Bob and Edith's)! We were welcomed right as we walked in. The manager at the time had a little spunk in her step. She was focused and quick to respond to folks calls and requests, but she handled it all well with a smile!! I forgot her name, and I wish I would have taken it down. All I know is that she was terrific! She was a roaming manager! She made are whole experience there highly enjoyable. Dining and friendly, I wish she had sat and talked with us for a while. It was understandable that she couldn't. The food was tasty. The restaurant was covered in light coming in from the windows. It was neat and clean. I'd go back just to see that manager again! We stopped by because hubby wanted to give them a try. We were greeted coming in the door by at least 3 friendly employees, the place was clean and bright, and we could sit anywhere. I wanted to love this place, but only came up with, "it's ok." For me. My husband was fine with it. He got the steak omelet, (after having ordered the Vegetable Omelet, but being updated by the manager(?) that the mushrooms were not looking good, so they were thrown out, which was much appreciated by us not to have been served the subpar mushrooms, and to be informed by someone about them. Thank you!) with grits, and a side of sausage gravy and biscuits. He was pleased with all. I ordered the French Toast with bacon, and a side of hash browns. The bacon was fine, the hash browns were fine, but not hot. The french toast was ok. Not sure what it was, but the bread used was different than what I am used to in that it got kind of gloopy soggy under the syrup and something was salty in the dish. It may be the bread was a specialty I was not familiar with. The staff was attentive and friendly. The manager(?) was attentive and friendly. He checked on us a couple times. A $51 breakfast for 2. I am sorry to say i am not wowed enough, or even pleased enough to want to travel down here again for breakfast. I visited the Bob & Edith's in Manassas for the first time on a Sunday morning. 20 minute wait for a table. I got my name on the wait list and waited outside. When my name was finally called - I was seated at the counter. After looking over the menu - I ordered Sausage Gravy and biscuits with crispy hash browns and two eggs over easy, plus coffee and water. Coffee came out first - and I had to request a utensil to stir my coffee. Then the Sausage Gravy & Biscuits came out - way to fast - and without the eggs. I had no silverware and no napkin - I had to flag down a server to ask for silverware and a napkin. It took them 5 minutes to return with silverware and napkin. My server then came back over and looked at my dish and told me they gave me the wrong potatoes. Eventually the eggs came out, I ate those - and then waited another 7 minutes for the hash browns... The biscuits were "bready" and not flaky as biscuits should be. The sausage gravy was not very sausagey - you could see the bits of sausage in the gravy - but it did not have much flavor. I added black pepper and hot sauce to improve the sausage gravy flavor. Food was hot - but they need to do some serious work on properly expediting orders and on customer service. Overall poor showing this time, three stars for average past experience, but my latest trip there will probably be my last. I've been here a few times prior to this past visit and overall was pretty good. The food is actually decent and in the past service fast and friendly. This time, not especially. Our server took our order without writing anything down which typically doesn't go well but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. I shouldn't have. After a long wait (25 minutes) in which drinks were forgotten and coffee not refilled, food started to arrive. My entire order was incorrect - wrong side, other things missing. I told the server, who went back to correct it. Then time went on. She checked in about five minutes later and had seemingly forgotten as I reminded her. Meanwhile my food got cold. The rest of my party finished eating, and 15 minutes later I took my plate back to the counter and handed it back and said no thanks, I'll just not eat here and prefer to go home and eat. I wasn't going to spend money on cold food so I could eat alone after my entire party was finished. At least the manager came by to see what was the matter and I explained to him why this was a problem. He was apologetic enough to take the stuff I ordered off the bill, and I let him know l that I'd probably not bother coming back. He seemed ambivalent to this or trying to make it right. I guess since I wasn't being rude or difficult he felt like he didn't have to. Call it a draw, maybe, but I can see why the place has declined. Still ended up spending 50 bucks for my wife and two kids. Not worth the trouble, lesson learned. Every once in a while it's nice to go somewhere and not have to worry about cooking, but I'm finding that around this area it's hard to find a place that can even do the simple things. We came to Bob and Edith's newly-opened location in Manassas for a late breakfast. It was a crowded morning, so we had to wait to get a table - but it was okay. The first thing that I noticed is that they don't have a waitlist system nor have a seating system - we had to wait until a server noticed that we weren't given the menu. We had Chipped Beef over Toast and Hashbrowns while my partner had Steak and Eggs with Shrimp and Grits. The Chipped Beef was okay - although I enjoyed my hashbrown topped with cheese. However, the steak was overcooked, which was somehow expected. Regarding the price, it was a little more expensive than we expected. Ambiance is okay - hopefully they stay clean even when they start operating 24/7. read more

Equally artificial were the two chicken pucks served with (partially) rehydrated hash browns fried in what tasted like old oil. Crunchy, but not in the right way. Yes, the chicken was perfectly round. Would have liked to have met that bird. And the 1" scoop of oleo to accompany the over-cooked biscuits, well, we all know how healthy petroleum-based fake butter is. Not a bad spot for breakfast. One of the things I find unnecessarily difficult is how to navigate there menu. In order to get a full meal with sides I ended up having to order one of the "specials." Otherwise you have to order things piece meal/alacart. That can get pricey. I got the plain hotcakes. I should have gotten Blueberry or Chocolate chip. The plain were cooked nicely with good texture but were bland. I thought the maple syrup would add some much needed sweetness. However to my dismay it had no flavor whatsoever. I will say the scrapple and bacon I ordered along with my meal were tasty and plentiful. The sunny side up eggs needed a little seasoning but came out cooked right with lightly crisped edges likely having been cooked on a flat tip. All in all a decent and filling breakfast. I would like to come back and try some of their lunch or dinner options. The shakes looked pretty good. I saw a few chicken fried steaks go past my table. We were in Manassas visiting and decided to stop in for lunch. Right off the bat, they were the most friendly folks. We both ordered the steak and cheese sub special. It came with fries and a slice of pie! Our server was absolutely the best. Very attentive and friendly. The subs were huge; lots of chopped ribeye, grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and mayo. Second time visiting Bob and Ediths in Manassas. During this visit, everything was cold. The omelette was good but the potatoes tasted bland and unseasoned. The English muffin was cold. Biscuits and gravy were cold. Even the coffee was cold. I did mention something to the waiter, who was gracious, but never really tried to remedy anything. The restaurant itself is fun and I can't say that I won't go back and give them one more chance. Service was fine and seating yourself is a little chaotic because there's almost zero space to stand when you walk in to have a look around without feeling like a stalker. Truly one of the worst breakfast experiences I've had in a long time. The food was mediocre and yet it took almost 40 minutes to come out. When they say it takes a while since it's "made to order", they aren't kidding. The manager had to ask us if anyone had served us because we had been sitting there so long. When he heard we'd been waiting 40 minutes, he went back to check the kitchen and you could tell he was telling them to start making our food right then. As for the food, the bacon is like paper. The hash browns seemed more mushy than crispy. We got eggs sunny side up which is hard to mess up and they at least got that right. The interior ambience is just like any other bob and Edith's location with the 50's vibe and classic diner look. This location has been open for two weeks now which might explain the long wait time but they have some serious work to do if they expect to survive at this location with all the other great breakfast places around here like Tom's diner, Ashton family restaurant, Yorkshire restaurant, and the omelette cafe. All of whom can serve two eggs with bacon for less than $10 and in under 30 min. Not sure if I'll be back to be honest. The second time around very disappointing!!! We went to Bob and Edith's on the third day they were open. There is nice server there a white guy that took our order, and gave us great service. The manager was very nice a black guy checked in on us. We really enjoyed our breakfast that day. We couldn't wait to come back when we had the opportunity. It was pretty much one of our favorite places for breakfast from that one experience. The second time we went, it wasn't so good. We were directed and sat by a hispanic young lady. They were working on the tables putting in some new seats. Also, they were cleaning the legs of the chairs, and had the chairs on top of the tables which is very unsanitary to look at when you're trying to eat a meal. It was dinner time. It was 6 PM. Why they chose to do all that at that hour. I have no idea. Our server a young hispanic lady rushed us to take our order. My husband went to the bathroom so we weren't quite ready. Once she took her order it basically took forever to get our food. We noticed other people got their food before we did that came in after us. Our server never bothered to come back to the table. I asked for butter and she brought me back something that tasted like Crisco. To put on my roll. She seemed pretty annoyed, and wanted to push us out of the restaurant. She hardly wanted to check us out. Very very rude. Also, the cooks seemed really aggravated, and kept looking into the dining room, rolling their eyes. Terrible disgusting behavior. My husband is white and I'm black. I have no problem with people, but I do recognize micro aggressions from certain people and I'm pretty sure that's what we were experiencing from our server. I stopped in with my husband on Saturday for a late breakfast and we were happy we found the place. It is very clean and brightly lit. We walked in and was greeted and seated right away. We ordered standard breakfast fare and everything came out hot and tasted good. I wanted diced onions and peppers added to my home fries and was a little put off by the price they were charging for them so I opted just to add the onions for flavor. Aside from that the service was excellent and the manager (Mr Abraham) came around to ensure that everything was to our liking. I was happy to see that the restrooms were clean. i'm happy I did not read the reviews of my fellow Yelpers (which I usually do) before we decided to visit. I may not have given them a chance. I had to chuckle at some of the reviews that were expecting a home cooked dinner from a diner. It's diner food--when you go you know they're not using the healthiest cooking oil and most of the food comes from a frozen package or a can. I stick to breakfast food and burgers when I do eat at a diner. Anyway, we may have just found our new go to spot. read more

Went a few months ago and had a solid experience. Tried to go today 12/28/24 around 2:30 pm and it looked closed. Tables on chairs, chairs employees cleaning with two customers inside. Signage on the door said hours 10am-3pm, sign in building and website said 24 hours on Weekends, 6 am-10pm M-F. We left without going in as it looked like they were closing for the day. A much needed breakfast place in the area. Food and service were great. You better get there early otherwise you will have to wait and that means standing awkwardly around other diners and others trying to come inside. Only issue is that it needs to be larger. It's worth the wait though. read more
