I can only critique this place from the perspective of a to-go order as that is how I dined. Given a recent offer I had received, I was entitled to several separate orders of strawberry pancakes for free. Accordingly, this made for a interesting experience and thus review on which to speak about. All sets of the pancakes or somewhere between outrageously terrible to the level of moderately depression you would expect from me continental breakfast offered at a roadside motel that is completely empty, ensconced in the mountains of a low population state. Bland, artificial, and overly hard with no texture or flavor, my partner, despite knowing that these items were free, expressed a great aversion to the time and effort spent even acquiring them. I cannot say I disagree, struggling to finish them simply so as to avoid being wasteful; but deriving little to no pleasure whatsoever. As another poster commented, however, this may be an ideal choice if you're going to fly out it IAD either really early or really late. First off really like the staff here. Usually go in for breakfast, but occasionally lunch or dinner works. You'll always be greeted immediately. Also the servers are quite friendly, and it is a family spot. I'm glad this one survived, as quite a few aren't around anymore. Breakfast is their best meal. The reason for that is simple. That would be because of their famous sausages. These are quite delicious. Their pancakes work for me, and my friends like the omelettes. Coffee is decent enough, although I prefer a bit more of a boost. It's time for the chain to upgrade the menu with new choices. Whether that'll be done, it's up to the corporate people. This was our first time here and we will never be back. Coffee cups had stains and Daphne our waitress said it was normal bc everything is old. I could literally wipe off the residue with my napkin. Based on reviews my expectations were low. We were groggy from a concert the night before. Our waitress let us know that she was brewing a fresh pot of coffee and it was worth the wait. I ordered the Southwestern omelet and it was very filling with black beans, corn, salsa, sausage, and cheese. I got fresh fruit instead of potatoes. The strawberries, blueberries and banana were all perfectly ripe. I ordered wheat toast but was too full to eat much of it. I missed my flight at IAD so my BF and I went to grab some breakfast together. He nostalgically remembered him and his grandparents going to Bob Evans when he was a kid and wanted to go for the hot coco and some breakfast platter to share. We got in right when they opened. Was funny as they have regulars that power walk in and sit all together and know one another. We waited to be seated though - and I even pulled menus for my BF and I cause they didn't have anyone to seat us when we got in. Finally a lady - the only server, came and sat us. We ordered hot coco, I asked if they could make mine with milk as I don't like watered down powder. She said no - they have hot coco made with water and powder - so I passed. I asked for a tea latte on the menu and she brought out luke warm water with some random tea packages and nothing else. I left it on the table and when she came back I mentioned I didn't find tea package for the tea latte on the menu - and wasn't offered milk or honey for the tea so I didn't use package in the (now cold) water. We were still charged for tea. We also got the platter with home fries (which we asked to be crispy- they came out mushy) and sausage patties (which were burnt and hard) and scrambled eggs dry (which tasted like it was from pourable egg solution and not real eggs). Needless to say we were not impressed. I also want to say Fatima, the manager put on a show yelling at the ONLY server in-front of customers saying if she messed up again she would send her home. The server, who was already short-handed and not in a good mood, dared Fatima to do it. All while, the customers were overhearing. It was a very hot day and I just didn't want to walk far from the hotel. And...I didn't want to go to the "bland Bob Evans" chain. But I am so glad I did. BOB EVANS has upped their game. My server was absolutely delightful and made sure my coffee and water was never empty----I am a camel on the road. My breakfast dish was an unexpected treat, very flavorful and fresh. Charles was amazing!! We stopped by on Saturday afternoon around 2:00 pm. Charles was pretty much running the restaurant aside from the kitchen while most of the staff was either sitting down on the other side of the glass wall or joking around. His tables stayed dirty for a while but what else is the server to do when he's seating guests, taking orders, running food, printing checks, etc. Nobody helped him. When he did have time to wipe his tables a female server commented with "why didn't you wipe my table while you were over there?" And then she proceeded to sit back down. And still didn't wipe her table down. Don't ask for help if your not willing to help others. The reason for 4 stars is not Charles. Charles gets 10 out of 5. The attitude of the other staff surprised me. Charles even mentioned loudly that he was "busy" and the other staff continued to stand around and watch him. He didn't ask for help (which is admirable) but being a previous bar manager myself and having worked in the industry for a number of years, "teamwork makes the dream work." Really disappointed with the work ethic of his colleagues. However, Michael, the MOD, stopped by the table and was nice too. But then quickly disappeared to the other side of the glass wall where it sounded like most of the employees were "hanging out." Nostalgia all the way. My family and I used to go to Bob Evans all the time when I was a kid. This is the place dad brought us, as a special treat for weekend breakfast and sometimes dinner. This isn't the same location as the one we used to go to as kids, but it's a chain and so its incredibly similar. The host (also the manager?) was friendly and quick to seat us on a Saturday for breakfast. I've been to this location twice now and both times had Zufan as our server. She is the best! Super friendly, personable, professional, and attentive. We didn't have to ask for extra napkins or refills on our drinks. She always had us covered. She makes our visits to Bob Evans that much more enjoyable. The food was good and incredibly filling. We enjoyed ourselves. I love their biscuits and am sad that they don't give complimentary biscuits, rolls, and sliced banana nut bread like they used to. I'm guessing they needed to cut food costs. They sell their banana nut bread near the cashier, along with plenty of other sweet treats. When you're finished with your meal, take your receipt to the cashier at the front of the restaurant and pay there. read more

Once seated it took several minutes to receive our beverages. Our waitress did not provide her name, nor did she make eye contact once during our exchange. This review is for the hostess - Decided to go to Bob Evans on route 50 in Chantilly when here for a weekend. When I arrived there were 3 guest ahead of me. A couple came in and said they wanted to be seated where Patron is the server. They were immediately seated. At this time there were three guest that came in after meI asked the host why were they seated before me she said "because they requested a server and he had an opening". I said is this not first come first serve? She looked as though she was confused about the question. Does asking for a particular server put you at the top of the list? Although the wait was not long after that. The point is everyone on the list should have been seated prior to them. The host should have known that. So I know that this is a restaurant chain and the experience at one does not reflect the experience at all, so this review applies to this location only. I've been coming here for breakfast on the way to work for several years and while the food has been consistently good, the service has suffered. It's not uncommon to wait 10-15 minutes to order the meal, even when not really busy. Why? The wait staff seems to know those early morning patrons and spends time catering to their needs at the expense of others. I have observing 2 managers behind the counter while one is busy playing with her phone and the other doing service been seated now for 10 minutes and not one server had approached us for our order. My son arrived to get the food on time called them and they said they would be right out. He waited 15 minutes, no one came so he went in. They said they couldn't find the order so he showed the confirmation number and the order. They look perplexed obviously they gave it away to somebody else. He proceeded to wait another 20 minutes while they made the meals. Two of the meals were supposed to be the same and one was different, and all of the meals had in bold letters, no gravy, they put gravy on every single item in the dinner! Yuk! The turkey was from a processed turkey roast. Tasted nothing like a real turkey. The stuffing was mushy and spicy like we were having a Cajun dinner! The gravy also had a hint of Cajun. What is going on with Bob Evans? A traditional American meal preparation and ingredients changed over night. Perhaps I should have stuck with Cracker Barrel but they had no ham option.
