Service is always fast and courteous and it's one of those third spaces where you can still chill and hang out without feeling pressured to leave. I really lope their signature honey latte. Stopped by this location for coffee and had a solid experience. The cold brew had a nice nutty flavor with a slight tanginess that kept it refreshing without being overly acidic. The cappuccino was smooth, well balanced, and a great classic cup. Compared to the Centreville location, I still think the coffee there has a slight edge, but this Chantilly location comes pretty close in flavor. I've been coming here for years, and this used to be my favorite coffee shop in the area. I've brought countless friends here because the cappuccino was consistently one of the best in the DMV. Lately, though, something has changed. The coffee just doesn't have the same flavor or quality it used to. Even the 8 oz cappuccino tastes much more like steamed milk than espresso, and the rich, bold flavor that made me love this place seems to be missing. I'm not sure if it's the beans, the roasting, or the way the drinks are being prepared now, but I genuinely hope the owners take a fresh look at it. This used to be one of the best coffee shops in the entire DMV. Unfortunately, based on my recent visits, I don't think it would even make my top 10 anymore. I had to come back and update my review from 2017. It looks like since my last visit, they expanded/moved/renovated, any one or all of the three. I came back here and tried a couple of their drinks. I let my friend order the drinks one of those times and surprise me. It was a pumpkin spice latte with cold foam, and oh my goodness, it was SO GOOD!! Been a while since I came here and it's still pretty good ! I got their butterscotch coffee with oat milk which was reallyyyyy gooood! They make their oat milk in house! It added a such a nice rich flavor to the butterscotch. My husband got the cream coffee wasn't great, I tried a sip I wouldn't get it again. Just a simple cold brew coffee with a cold foam on top. Such a cute cafe with cozy vibes. The space is welcoming, clean, and perfect for catching up with friends or getting a little work done. I ordered the rose latte and it was amazing. My husband and I went here on a whim on a Monday AM and were surprised to find it packed. Parking was easy due to its location in a strip mall. I was looking for a legit cappuccino and Cafein delivered! They had both cappuccino and "traditional cappuccino" (the difference being size aka volume of milk) and i could actually taste the coffee in my traditional cappuccino! My husband enjoyed his iced matcha latte, though we both agreed it tasted a little too sweet. Pastry selection was very sparse at 10:30. Our only complaint was that we didn't get reception and the WiFi wasn't working (though I appreciated that the password was on the table!). I don't think I'll make a point to return (it didn't have particularly cozy vibes), but if I were in the area I'd choose Cafein due to the quality. read more

Cafein is a busy cafe regardless of the time of the day you visit. I hate waiting for drinks when I just want caffeine on the go especially at a busy cafe like this. So I usually prefer ordering ahead of my arrival. Well, this cafe requires you to download their standalone app for such an occasion + make an account. I discovered this when I went onto their online website and just wish they allow web ordering in lieu of app download. My drinks were ready upon arrival but the pickup process was frustrating. I went to where people pick up their orders aka end of the counter. There was no cashier of sort at cash wrap. Stood there like an idiot with two baristas gawking at me fully aware I have been waiting for good 5 minutes. I finally spoke up after waiting and one of them told me "oh your order has been ready awhile ago but you just need to get it from the shelf near the cash register" WOWEE thanks for the letting me know after all this time! God knows how much longer I would have had to just stand there had I not spoken up! There was really no clear signage that I could see upon entering the cafe that there's a shelf full of to-go orders you pluck out. It was good to know for the next time but it was just UGH when you have jetlag and in a rush. I tried out 3 different drinks over the 5-days stay I had in the region and only liked one of them -- the iced London Fog Latte. It has a nice lavender tinged tea flavor that's slightly on the too sweet side of the spectrum. Too bad there's no option of adjusting the sweetness like picking 75% sweet when ordering online. The matcha latte looks pretty but it's chalky, weak, and too sweet. It almost tastes like I'm drinking straight up milk with green coloring to it. I don't recommend. Same with butterscotch latte. The name sounds enticing but it didn't taste much differently than a standard latte. So disappointing. All in all, I still prefer ordering my caffeine from a local small business like this but if I'm in SoCal, this would be a 2-star place with no chance of revisiting. Just with the unfriendly and snooty customer service + having to download an app + mediocre $$ drink makes it a NO. read more

I came here kind of close to closing time. I got the butterscotch iced latte. Be sure to get some of the top layer of the butterscotch with every sip and I swear you'll think the world is a better place. It was delicious. The creamy tomato soup is perfectly balanced; the right amount of sweetness, tanginess, and just a little kick. The thickness is spot-on, with small minced pieces that give it great texture without being chunky. The grilled cheese somehow has so much flavor for something so simple. Crispy, comforting, and done exactly right. The rose latte was a standout: not overpowering, not overly sweet, and you can still smell the rose subtle and elegant. The veggie on a wheat bagel tasted incredibly fresh and clean, like every ingredient actually mattered. Service was amazing, quick and clean. I ordered the veggie breakfast sandwich and was pleasantly surprised. Cooked to order indeed and well worth the $8 price tag...I combined that selection with a cortado with just a hint of simple syrup (best to choices to start the day). You can immediately tell the place is indeed a fan favorite, the staff is super attentive and friendly. WiFi codes are on the table for usage if you need it...I'd stay away from the front in the winter months because it may be a little chilly in the front with the guest entering and leaving. I came here with a pretty big group and there was generous seating and fast/kind service. I got the smoked salmon/cream cheese/onions with everything bagel (LOX bagel) and thought it was pretty delicious :) I didn't really try any drinks, but heard that their davant coffee is tasty and popular and may try next time. While I was here the lights all briefly went out..but overall had a great experience. Love this spot, and so does half of the city, apparently! It's always packed inside and I've been on weekdays and weekends. To avoid the lines, I always order ahead via the app and my order is always ready upon arrival. My go-to is an iced vanilla latte with caramel; never tastes over roasted, always a nice even flavor. Pretty good spot for coffee if you are around Chantilly. I came after checking out the place next door (Kare Bar) so I thought to myself, why not pay this cafe a visit? Inside there's many tables, there's chillhop playing and the ambiance is what you'd expect if you have been to many coffee shops.. people doing work on their laptops silently, students talking to other students about work/life, ect... and just many other patrons seeking their coffee fix. I wasn't here for too long but I got a Rose Latte and I got their butter cream cake. I believe their cakes rotate seasonally and I was hoping to get their rainbow cake ( why not, it looks cool ) but no luck this time. Their coffee is smooth, easy to drink despite the poor weather conditions that occurred for that visit. The cake was soft and was easy to break apart. I was a messy eater that day but I cleaned after myself. The cafe is worth visiting if you need a good place to get work or you need some comfort in your life. Hubs loves the coffee here and we couldn't resist coming back to try their food offerings (I call it breakfast and brunch but I guess breakfast/brunch are relative to everyone). Hubs got a Cortado and drip coffee. He said their drip was very nice but the cortado was just "ok;" in all fairness, hubs is a coffee roaster so he knows what they didn't do right. My hojicha latte was gritty and too sweet; I enjoy a more natural hojicha flavor and less powder. Croissants were good. The banana flambe French toast was good until we got to the middle and saw all the uncooked parts of the French toast. My mushroom toast was good (all the flavors were there) but too wet for my liking; I was thinking more sautéed mushrooms on a bed of things but this was more mushroom in a "sauce""." It was clean here but so busy on a 10am weekday. We barely found a spot for us- lots of people working and also moms out. Service was on par. They no longer do pour overs, which is sad. You can tell from the lines this place has on weekends that the coffee is amazing. I like lattes and cappuccinos and this place makes one of the most consistently best espressos around. It's always so smooth and has a balanced flavor. Now, aside from the coffee, this place makes one of the best tuna sandwiches EVER. They have a tuna on a baguette on the menu, but I always ask for it on ciabatta. They almost always say yes. I think only one time someone said no but I don't think they still work there because I never saw them again (wasn't me, I swear!) The Centerville location also has a tuna sandwich on their menu but they add all this stuff on it that gets in the way of the perfect flavor of their tuna mix. Ordered an oat milk latte, drip coffee and rainbow cake here. The waiter stumbled through my order on what seemed like purpose and then made me repeat myself a few times. After I made my order I had to wait longer than customers after me to get my full order. But, other than that the quality of product here is very good. Coffee and pastries get an A plus from me. I would def order the rainbow cake and their tres leches cupcake again. The baristas are also very talented. The cashiers can be a hit or miss- depends on the day I suppose. My main gripe is really with the coffee cups and lids. I think maybe the coffee gets too hot the cup lip melts and then as a result the lid pops off after a few minutes. I took some pictures to visually explain. If this cafe could invest in new coffee cups (maybe reusable cups customers could bring back?) that would be a huge improvement! Chantilly has no shortage of cafes and sometimes it feels like everyone and their mom owns one in this humongous plaza. Yet somehow one of my friends came to the decision to try out Cafein while we caught up one of these days. There's plenty of seating -- although it can get crowded, as people come in waves -- making it a great place to study or get in a tea-spilling session with friends. The coffee is quite strong but smooth. I got the rose latte, although I was slightly disappointed that it did not particularly taste that special. My barista did compliment my bucket hat though! Good friendly vibes throughout. Got there around 8:30/45-45 minutes after they opened and it was pretty packed. Noticed there were plenty of to-go orders as well. Not much seating area for how popular it is but they are pretty limited on space. Good service and drinks/food came out in a pretty timely manner. My cafein toast was pretty tasty, and very filling!
