anytime we took a family road trip up and down the eastern seaboard, we would stop at cracker barrel at least once! they serve homey, comfort food for breakfast, lunch and dinner! after dropping off my hubby at the airport, mom and i wanted to eat nearby to avoid the "parking lot" of traffic on the beltway. lucky me, cracker barrel was only 8min drive away! parking was very easy, plenty of parking outside the building. before we got seated, i was distracted by their gift shop, pretty standard for all their stores...as usual, with lots of toys, stuffies, unique clothing items and seasonal merchandise. we were seated right away...seeing that it was a monday around 1700, it wasn't that busy, a few customers sprinkled throughout the dining area, several staff waiting patiently in the kitchen for customers needing their service. the young man who came to greet us appeared to be in high school (maybe college?) he was young! but then again, i'm only getting older. he had a big smile on his face and a kind demeanor, explained the menu, shared the daily specials and took our beverage order. i ordered monday's special: chicken & rice, a baked chicken breast on a bed of rice, with creamy mushroom sauce (which i requested on the side). for my 2 sides, i chose the sweet baby carrots and country green beans. mom got a side of hashbrown casserole (she's a small eater when it comes to dinner). within minutes, our basket of muffins and biscuits came to our table. i was a bit surprised that there was only one of each inside. it had been a few years since i dined at cracker barrel and i remember the basket used to be full...hmm... a few moments later, our meal arrived and i noticed the chicken already had sauce on it, even though i had explicitly requested it on the side. not a huge deal as it wasn't too much, and they still gave me a small dish of sauce on the side in case i wanted more. the chicken was hot, tender and delicious, as were the carrots and beans. i cleaned off my plate pretty quickly and even added a bit more of the mushroom sauce on the side. mom enjoyed her hashbrown casserole, which was a very generous side porton i might add. we left with full bellies and happy hearts. it's too bad we don't have a cracker barrel near where we live, but i'll definitely come back here the next time i'm in need of some comfort food before/after a flight! read more

I'll start with the positive, the food, service and back end manager were top notch when a friend and I went to dine at the Sterling VA location last weekend. Too bad I can't say the same for the cashier and front end staff. First all over the place was advertised free shareables with app (which we had). The cashier would not honor it. The food manager came out to correct the bill. Next I was looking at some merchandise to purchase. Signs said BOGOF. I asked a salesperson on the floor if items could be mixed and matched - I was holding a journal and a toy. I was told yes. I joked that I guess the more expensive one is the one I'll be charged for. Went to the (same) cashier after picking up some candy as well and found out NO they had to be from the same display. I told her that wasn't what I was told and who told me. She never learned that if a salesperson tells a customer wrong information they are supposed to honor it and then use it as a teaching lesson afterwards. She would not honor it. I told her to void the sale. She said "Do you want the candy". I wanted to say what part of void the sale do you not understand but held me breath. I wrote to their corporate office giving them a chance to correct the issue or at least apologize. I received neither. This experience makes us not want to return to this location. read more

This Chicken Campfire Meal is a lot of fun to eat and really takes us back to that old fashioned home style taste. It's so clever how it comes out in a large piece of wrapped foil which is closed at the top. It's beautiful food inside, smells great, the chicken is perfection. Our server was super friendly from the moment we sat down and stayed attentive the whole meal--drinks were refilled almost instantly without us even asking. I ordered the kids' pancake meal (yes, adults can enjoy it too!) and it was perfect--three mini pancakes and one sausage, all delivered very quickly and hot off the griddle. I wanted to share my disappointment with the service during our visit. Our waiter, a woman probably in her late 30s, was very unprofessional. She seemed rushed the entire time and was practically throwing plates on the table instead of serving us properly. We felt like we were being rushed out before we could comfortably enjoy our meal. She also messed up our order, which made the experience even more frustrating. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Sophie, made us feel welcome shortly after being seated. Absolutely delighted by the decor which harkens back to simpler times. As for the food...don't let the portions fool you. Their fried chicken is done right. The dinner salad was fresh, crisp and a meal in and of itself. Chicken dumplings? Outstanding! Wish we could have tried a dessert, but we were stuffed. This was our first time trying a Cracker Barrel. It's now going to be a restaurant we try to find. Living in SoCal, that's a challenge. Cane here on a whim before the airport. Stopped by around noon on a sunday, requested a table for 2 and was seated immediately. I ordered from the list of daily specials: Sunday of Chicken Pot Pie day! It came with 2 biscuits/muffins. Overall, it was okay. I didn't love the chicken, but ate all the veggies/sauce and pastry topping (which was just that, a topping, not a full pie crust on the bottom. I took the biscuits on the plane with me (one biscuit, one corn muffin, butter and jam), and was generally not wowed by them (I had higher expectations!). My friend ordered peace french toast. Portions were generally large. Service was friendly. Quick and easy alternative to eating at a diner, with lots of added flair and decor. read more

Long long wait for a table during Thanksgiving Day lunch/dinner. We called ahead and waited 45 minutes. Got a table. Got the Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Added fried okra and hashbrown cass. The food was good but the temperature was not hot as we usually like it. The food was warm and sometimes cool for the sides. Not great. But the turkey was juicy. Not a fan of the sweet potato cass with pecans. The cornbread dressing and green beens good. The fried okra was piping hot but no seasoning. Pumpkin pie was defrosted out of the freezer. Tasted good tho. Lots of strange and annoying people dining and were out in force today at Cracker Barrel. Not the brightest or friendliest of people. I am sure they weren't thankful today cause they were quite rude. The problem with Cracker Barrel is they let the food sit to be picked up so when the customer gets the food, it isn't hot anymore. Sometimes, we just want "comfort food". Having grown up in the Midwest, chicken fried steak (i.e., hamburger patty fried in chicken batter) was always my standby. Midweek, we decided in the late afternoon, to try the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes, gravy, and fried okra. The meal tasted good and was extremely filling. First time here and it was your typical southern style American food. I had got the fried fish with a side of broccoli, mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. Was not impressed because when the food came out my side of gravy was already congealed; cold. We didn't receive a basket of cornbread/bread until AFTER we received our food. Normally tables would receive the bread first after sitting down. We had to ask a few times to remind them. Fried fish was ok, mashed potatoes was good but could've been better if the gravy was hot when it arrived to my table. The cornbread is very delicious however when it finally got to our table. It was one of my favorites. Also tried the green apple iced tea and that's also pretty good. Kind of like jolly rancher iced tea. Perk about this place is that is has an actual store out front. Over the holiday break, I lost my wallet and assumed it was gone for good. While I'm not sure who originally found it, Ali took responsibility for making sure it was handled with care. He wrote a handwritten note and personally returned the wallet to my home while I was at work. That level of honesty, follow‑through, and community‑minded service is incredibly rare these days. It's easy to talk about good food and friendly service (which this location consistently delivers), but character is what really sets a place apart. He took and delivered my order quickly and accurately then checked back to ensure everything was good. He must have refilled my coffee 4 times and my water once. I ordered the steak and eggs and the country fried steak both with hash brown casserole. The steak had a great sear, was well seasoned and was cooked accurately to temp (medium). If I had to nitpick I would say the biscuits were a bit doughy but overall everything was about as close to perfect as it gets. The restaurant was very clean. Turn back the clock, we ventured into a country side restaurant in the middle of Office buildings and hotels. Armed with our $25 gift card, we strolled back into time as soon as we walked into the place. The store is larger than the dining hall. It's packed with Fall products both decor and food. I ordered a basic hamburger steak meal(a hamburger patty, canned corn and canned green beans). What can I say about canned veggies(my mom served these). We went here twice and my brother has been here multiple times. It's a fun place-- we came close to closing at around 8:30pm but we did not feel rushed at all. We had the same waiter as last time and he was excellent! Kendall, Cracker Barrel is lucky to have you! Excellent customer service. The gift store is fun, lots of things to look at and a variety of items. The food is yummy, nice down home country food. Then I had to find a place for breakfast and ended up heading here! Our host was great, she was attentive and offered good suggestions. Though I was disappointed that they do not offer eggs poached. Oddly this forces me to not come back, as my normal breakfast +1 only has her eggs poached! Beyond that, the food was great and plentiful. I am glad that I can recommend this place to my friends even with their shortcomings. This place also seems to stay pretty busy, so be ready to wait in a line! Cracker barrel has always been a favorite in our family. We used to only have the Manassas location to go to but this one is now a bit closer. Food and service doesn't differ much from either location. My one complaint is the country fried steak is not what it used to be. It was much thinner and bigger in size. This was my first Cracker Barrel experience and it was just what I had expected. Huge lines, huge portions, and great fatty flavors to start off a weekend morning! I would highly recommend getting someone to put their name on the waitlist so that you're not left waiting for an extended period of time. The only downside to our visit was that we had to split up a table of 6 into 4 and 2, even though our tables were right next to each other. The place was busy and I didn't want to cause too much trouble, but definitely something to keep in mind if you go with a larger group. read more

Delicious food and excellent service. The restaurant needed to be more staffed as we had to wait for a table, yet it was half-empty! Our waitress was super efficient. She came and got our drinks quickly and gave us time to review the menu. She took our order promptly and efficiently, and they came out prepared as expected, including my special request. I got the Friday Fish Fry special without tartar sauce. Half the time, restaurants put it on the plate when you request it is left off, but here, the tarter sauce was left off as requested. The 4 pieces of fish were delicious, lightly breaded, and you could taste good whitefish. My fried apples were oh-so-good! And green beans country-style, as expected. I enjoyed my meal. My friend got some scramble with eggs, meat, cheese, and veggies, and her mom had grilled chicken with vegetables. All of the meals were so good it looked like we practically licked our plates. The prices were reasonable, and the restaurant itself was as you would expect a Cracker Barrel restaurant. The restroom was clean, and so was the restaurant. The shop itself was nice and had lots of older delicious candy treats. I highly recommend a visit here, and even though I didn't get breakfast today, their all-day breakfast is terrific. read more

Something different was that the menu was updated which caused a bit of confusion. I don't know when this happened, that being said I still really enjoyed the food.
