This location is attached to a hotel, which may be the reason it's not a part of Landry's rewards. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. Service was prompt and friendly. My husband and I ordered from the All Day Fix menu. We both started with fried dumplings, he got fish and chips, I got shrimp pasta, he got creme brûlée and I got the chocolate butter cake. My daughter ordered chicken Alfredo. The dumplings were good. I enjoyed them with the sauce it came with. My husband liked them as well. We shared with our daughter and she liked them too. My shrimp dish was very very good. It was lightly seasoned, which was perfect. My husband liked his fish and fries. Unfortunately my daughter's Alfredo was cold. The replacement was warm on top, but as she went for more, it was cold. She was turned off by it and swapped it for the shrimp pasta I ordered, which she enjoyed. I did not like the cake, but my husband loved his creme brûlée. Overall, it wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. I would return for the shrimp pasta dish. Rude and unprofessional bartender. Walked in at 3:40pm. I was the only customer in the entire place. I asked what was the Happy Hour specials? Bartender said happy hour was 5-7pm. I showed him on their website that it indicated 3-7pm. He said it was wrong. When I stated his attitude would reflect a negative review, his reply "I don't care". With this level of poor customer service, no wonder the place was empty. Took an Uber down to Reston Town Center where I was welcomed to an establishment as soon as I walked inside. Houston's Restaurant, Herndon, VA This review is based on the lack of service and breakfast. I recently had the "pleasure" of dining for breakfast at Houston's located inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Herndon, VA, and I must say, the experience left much to be desired. The food itself is decent, but the service was lacking in every way. Upon being seated by my server, he walked away without asking if I'd care for coffee or explaining the breakfast buffet, so I assumed he must be the host. I was left waiting for at least 10 minutes watching him clean up tables and chat with the co worker at their work station before I got up to ask if we had a server. The response? "Oh yes, but the breakfast buffet is self service." When I asked about coffee, the server explained that he will provide the coffee and eggs to order. We waited longer on the coffee while they chatted more hanging out at their work station by the kitchen - we had to ask again for coffee. This place operates more like a self-serve cafeteria than a full-service restaurant, which was truly baffling. The ambiance is nothing special. You have a full bar and separate dining room with tables and booths. The menu has nice selections for lunch and dinner with house made soups, never frozen burgers and aged steaks. Maybe their lunch and dinner service would be better. The food certainly sounds good so I tried the Char Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad TO GO and it was good. It's honestly strange how the staff doesn't provide the level of service you expect from a restaurant. It's hard to tip for lack of service. You have to constantly ask for things, and even then, expect to wait longer than you'd like. While the food itself is fine, it's just not somewhere I would recommend planning to eat at, unless, like me, you're here for work and have no other options, other than ordering from UberEats and DoorDash, which I ended up doing the two additional days. Had the Kansas City burger on Tuesday because it was half price burger deal. It was amazing. I'm staying in the hotel and it is my last night and I had the same burger because it was so good. Tonight was a shadow of what I got 2 nights ago. It was very discounting. The fries were a joke like they came from the grocery store not the nice ones I had previously in the week. Consistency is lacking if I am to judge from tonight. Servers are hit and miss but the guy running the bar is awesome 12/10! read more

Had breakfast here at the hotel which was the breakfast buffet and a pilot decided he wanted to blow his nose in his hand and wipe his hand on a napkin. He then proceeded to the bread and picked up all the breads to get to the ones in the back that he wanted and put the ones he touches back in the bin which is beyond nasty. I notified the waiter who notified his manager Bill. Bill went right into action and took all the bread that was in the bin and he also removed the paper and sanitized the bin out. Now to review the buffets food you could get better at McDonald's just by getting a big breakfast. Eggs bland pancakes were the great value pancakes I couldn't even cut through them home fries were probably the best thing along with the turkey sausages. Nothing had any seasoning on them at all. Had to always keep asking for ketchup because they don't keep ketchup out on the tables. Beverages at the buffet were all watered down like how do you water down OJ? I had to add sugar to get some type of taste. Staff was limited so you had to keep waiting for them to come around if you needed something. Had lunch and dinner here as well and had something floating in my sodas so sent that back ‍. Dinner and lunch food they definitely put a lot of salt in the food but you get good portion . I would just recommend them to make food from scratch and not use so much frozen food because you can definitely tell it's frozen food they just heat up and send out. I gave them a 2 due to how fast Bill handled the toast issue but other that they need to take more pride in the food service. Even with making sure cups are clean and silverware. This is specific to the morning buffet. I had their pan friend dumplings last night at dinner and they are a must get! So, when reading this know, this is morning buffet only. I had a buffet coupon so I was not paying for buffet but I always tip. They came once to provide me hot water and never came again. I tried multiple times to get more water to no avail. When I was leaving, I left my $5 for one mug of hot water and asked a wait staff on my way out how I could have gotten more and their response was.. you just need to ask us. Well, they are the wait staff, why would they never check back. I come here often with my job so when I order coffee, it's not as big of a deal because they leave a little pot but I am also a bartender part time back home where I live. If I bring someone one drink or interact with them one time, it's generally $1. I feel like when I leave you $5-7 dollars (which I do everytime I am here for work), I should get more than one mug of hot water? I'm just really disappointed. When you go to this restaurant at night though, the experience is much different. Even though I took my food to go last night, the bartender and wait staff addressed me immediately and checked back with updates on my food order (since it was not quite done). Good food and solid service. The Tuscan white bean salad never disappoints. It's so flavorful! The reason I'm giving four stars (not five) is mostly because my server did not point me to the happy hour menu, which would have saved me money on a day that I came in eager to get a deal. Houlihan's emailed me with a nearly 50% off deal--cool! Unfortunately, I came in a day too early to get the deal on the "down home pot roast." The server didn't try to get me that deal a day early, and she failed to let me know about any other specials. I ended up choosing three pot roast sliders ($11) to go with the salad. Those sliders were greasy and not to my taste. I choked down the third one because I hate to waste food. As I waited for the check, I flipped open the drinks menu that was propped at the back of the table--and saw that I could have gotten two pot roast sliders for $6. I hadn't thought to look at the drinks menu for happy hour specials. Sigh. At least I know the bigger dish probably wouldn't have been to my taste either. If I visit again, I'll have to try a completely different main dish. If you stop by, don't rely on the server to tell you about those specials. Read ALL the menus instead. read more

Since Covid, the actual service has gone down. The wait staff, even manager, just kind of look over the tables and do absolutely nothing. My husband and I attended this restaurant for lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was our first time ever at a Houlihan's, we'd only ever heard about it. My husband was happy he could get his IPA beer on tap, and the French dip sandwich he got was HUGE. He enjoyed it, and the fries were good, too (I did take a few). I thoroughly enjoyed the ahi tuna salad-- so many flavors and textures!! I was pleasantly surprised and very satisfied. The service was also very friendly and we saw that the bartender was regularly wiping down the bar after guests left. I would come again if ever in the area. read more

So i'm from out of town and this is my second time visiting them since there isn't any around where im at in maryland. Starting out the food is 8/10. i got the chicken egg rolls and those are always amazing. i got the kansas city burger, and wow was it big and juicy! the salted caramel cake was very nice ending to my night. And for the bad, service here sucks! i mean everyone was super nice but took forever for me to get the attention of a server to find my server. after waiting 10 minutes i finally asked the hostess for sauce for my burger even though i asked for it while ordering the burger. i was also served by 2 managers and my server and the hostess in the whole time being here and they were slow for a normal restaurant. i was told that the server was doing another job as well as his so he was stuck somewhere else. Just i rather write another review when i come back in a few months and hopefully the service is better. this location is great and it's so nice inside! they should pull more customers than what ive seen. last bad thing was i ordered a peach ice tea and it was extremely unsweetened and didn't taste anywhere near peach. kinda bummed me out but i figured the peach would sweeten it up a little. Came here from NY to meet a friend and I chose this place b/c of the outdoor seating. Grilled chicken sandwich combo was filling. Restaurant accommodated our outdoor despite the short staff. If you are short staffed and have people who want to sit outside, my recommendation is use the electronic buzzer pads. Hand them to the folks who are sitting outside and buzz the pads when the food is ready. read more

I had a positive experience here with hubby and couple of friends after seeing a movie. We went here partly for the nostalgia (we had just seen Rogue One) of an old brand that has kept on ticking. I agree with Jermoil A. that the place has changed and "that old vibe is long gone." I will admit I was skeptical when we entered. There were literally no customers except us and it was dark inside. This was not a case of my eyes needing to adjust from the outside because it was a gray and rainy day. Add to that the very small print on the menu and I was skeptical and ready to bolt but we were already seated and chatting with our friends so decided to give it a try. They had several shrimp and salmon items on the menu ranging from main course to salad to sandwiches to appetizers. I was looking at the chipotle chicken nachos because I do love chipotle flavor. I asked about the chips and when I told they were made in house and decided to go with those. They were pretty darn good and there was enough to share. I told them I like it hot and I got entry chipotle sauce and peppers. They went crazy with the guacamole and sour creme. Hubby had a burger with fries which he enjoyed and finished. One friend had salmon and the other had soup and salad. Both seemed happy with their orders. The staff was nice, attentive, and helpful. They were around but we did not feel like they were hovering. Yummy nachos I would order again and a nice staff get Houlihan's four stars. My husband and I are split when it comes to how to rate Houlihan's. I say 4 stars, he says, 3 1/2. So, let's split the difference and call it 3 3/4 stars. We came here on a Saturday around 5:30 p.m. At that time, there were a few people sitting at the bar and one occupied table in the dining area. The host who greeted us pointed to a section of tables and told us to pick the one we wanted. Our server showed up promptly. He was friendly and had a good sense of humor. We started with drinks. My husband had a glass of Yuengling while I had a mixed drink called "toasted almond". My drink consisted of amaretto, kahlua and cream. It was tasty and I was able to clearly taste each ingredient. For our appetizer, we chose chicken wings. These are available with either "Thai chile glazed with sesame-ginger sauce" or as Buffalo wings. We chose the Thai sauce. These turned out to be tasty wings with crisp skin and mild but flavorful sauce. One thing could have made them better---they could have used meatier wings. For my main course, I chose the grilled salmon BLT. This consisted of "grilled honey-ancho glazed salmon, toasted sourdough, bacon, lettuce and tomato with lemon pepper mayo". I was impressed with this sandwich. Our server told us that the salmon would be cooked medium---and that's exactly how it was prepared! That mainly is the reason I opted for 4 stars. So many restaurants will tell you that they will prepare the salmon medium but it comes out well done. It was nice to have some salmon that wasn't dried out. The bacon was cooked very crisp (I would have preferred it to be less so). The iceberg lettuce and the tomato were fresh and the mayo gave subtle but good flavor to the sandwich. I also had fries which were well prepared. My husband had a "build your own black Angus burger". He chose Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion. At first, he wasn't going to have a side but the waiter mentioned that he could have chips and salsa which caused my husband to change his mind and have them. He really liked his burger, which was cooked medium, and even commented that it was better than the burger at Gordon Biersch. I tasted his chips and salsa and we both agreed that the salsa rivaled what you good get at a good Mexican restaurant. Plus, the chips tasted like they could have been house-made. If not, then they were better than the average bagged ones. The server, of course, brought over the dessert menu. However, we were both too full to even consider dessert. If we had room, we might have indulged as some of them did sound tasty. Before the tip, dinner cost $47 + change. Our server shook our hands and thanked us for coming. One of the better hotel-attached restaurants I've experienced. Yes I know what you're thinking, a restaurant that is attached to a hotel is always a risk... but on a Tues night I can honestly say tonight's dinner of scallops and risotto, thai chicken wings, and tortilla soup was probably in the top 20% of all -reasonably priced- hotel restaurants I've experienced in my travels. My colleagues and I followed the recommendation of the waitress and tried the soups. I am not a restaurant soup kind of guy but the chicken tortilla soup was flavorful and worth the $3 add to the main. Next were the thai chili wings, while its true that they are a bit on the small side the flavor surprised me. A previous review said the flavor was non-existant, but I have to disagree. The three of us scarfed all 10 wings down and gave it the nod of approval. Last but not least the scallops and risotto type of rice. The scallops were perfectly cooked and were medium sized (think US half dollar). The dish came with sour lemon-tossed greens over a lightly seasoned risotto type of rice and ringed by drops of some sort of sweet balsamic vinegarette reduction, it balanced out pretty well! I appreciated that the dish wasn't overly seasoned or over-salted. It wasn't ground breaking but the flavor of each scallop came through the sauces nicely. This dish was $25, a little pricey, but the quality was high and there were enough scallops to round the plate. All in all, if the portion doesn't shrink in the future, this dish is a winner. My experience seems to contradict many others on yelp. Maybe we caught this place on a good night with the right chef in the kitchen? I don't know for sure, but I can tell you I am a real person who doesn't get paid for reviews etc... and it was honestly a good meal albeit a bit expensive but fair/slightly generously portioned. Special shoutout to the chef behind the scenes tonight (1/22/2019) and the lovely waitress (older Asian woman) for the great attitude and spot on recommendation. 4-stars. I'll be back. read more

I am struggling with finding the positives outside of the food. Either they have understaffed this location or the staff has not been trained on attentive service. Although I did enjoy my appetizers, the beverage service was extremely slow and almost absent. Once you get their attention, they seem nice enough.....maybe just distracted? Kids eat free on Sundays between 4-8pm so that is the only time I try to avoid Houlihans. Even though I frequent the bar area, kids always seem to find their way there. I just feel some type of way of about drinking in front of the impressionable. After all, I am a lady. Houlihans is a good spot for a dinner date but most recently I have found the bar to be a great hangout. No doubt, people have made Houlihan's bar to be their "Cheers" and it's no wonder, as the bartenders are personable and very accommodating. The staff has a very low turnover rate so this is a testament to how satisfied they are with their work environment. I am sure the patrons take care of the staff just as they take care of us. Even though Houlihans has a set menu, I have found that each location also makes their own variations. For instance, the Cajun jambalaya and Cajun rub chicken wings are specialized to Herndon Houlihans and must be sampled!! read more

I've always loved Houlihan's. I have been to many locations and this one is no different than the rest. The bar staff is terrific. Great personalities and amazing service. Both times I've been to this location I had trouble deciding what I wanted to eat. The first time it was recommended to try to Ahi Tuna Salad which features....(drum roll please) BANANAS! Who had ever hear of bananas on a salad? That's bananas! OK, I'll stop. But really... The lovely girl behind they bar recommended I have the bananas on the side and test it out but assured me I would love the combo. She was 100% correct. The salad was delicious and I not only plan to enjoy this again at a Houlihan's but have began adding bananas to some salads I prepare at home. Just amazing. The second time I was here was for the UYE recently hosted. We were attended to by 2 really cool male bartenders, both of which handled our party quite well. The drinks were fantastic and this time I tried the Thai Wings which were so yummy (and a bargain at $6.00 for happy hour price). Even as some people in our party began to get incredibly out of control drunk and dumb (much to my chagrin)...the bartenders acted with grace and ease in making sure things continued to run smooth. This is definitely a casual but upscale family restaurant with a bar attached, so it's not the place to party. However is great for professional gatherings, or a classy while informal bar/pit stop. I certainly enjoyed myself here and wouldn't mind stopping back by should I be in the neighborhood again. read more

Bottom Line: Wouldn't seek out a Houlihan's just because there are so many great independents out there now - BUT - for convenience - it's dependable and pretty good! It's attached to a hotel that I was staying at. There are some places across the street but I was hungry and tired and wanted something that I knew would be decent. I wasn't in the mood to experiment with the places across the street. I went in and was greeted by the hostess immediately. I asked if I should go to the bar to place a to go order and she told me I could do that or she would be happy to take my order. I gave her my order. I did wind up experimenting a little - I had a Salmon BLT. It came with a side and I was pleased to find out that Asparagus was a side option. Both the sandwich and the asparagus were very good. It hit the spot and I was very satisfied with the price, portion and taste. When staying at that hotel I will def take advantage of the convenience and predictability (in a good way) of Houlihan's. read more

Shame on you Jodi, shame on you! I make it a personal goal to stay away from restaurants attached to hotels. 9 times out of 10 they are two-stars at best, however, I will go on record that I stand corrected with Houlihans. Bobby K. so graciously hosted a Happy Hour last night where Brandi K, Illysa S. and I finally got a chance to spend some time with our newly acquired friends, some of which were Yelpers and other Eaters. Houlihans is decorated beautifully. I stayed in the bar area the majority of the night but glancing around the restaurant you can clearly see that they have put a lot of effort into the ambiance of not only the dining area, but the bar and restrooms also. The bar tenders are very attentive, can pour an amazing drink and were an overall joy to chat with. I ordered a Long Island Ice Tea, something of which I have not ordered in about 13 years. After nursing the first one, I ventured out for a peach version and then ended my night with a liter of the raspberry. Yes, you read that correctly, I said a LITER of Long Island. We opted for munchie food instead of a sit down meal. We ordered the Stuffed Mushrooms, Spinach Dip, and the Nachos. The mushrooms were unlike anything I have ever had before. I am not a huge shroom fan to begin with, but these were extremely unique, (see the picture). The looked identical to the Italian appetizer Arancini - huge mushrooms and a garlic cream sauce, breaded and fried. The nachos were okay. We ordered the chipotle chicken nachos, chips, sour cream, jalapenos and the driest chicken ever. They could have been outstanding with juicer chicken. I feel like with something called "chipotle nachos" they could have played more with the flavor profile. Throw some black beans and roasted corn on those puppies. That'd knock our socks off! The spinach dip was by far my favorite snack. The dip itself was full of cheese and spinach and was really thick, none of that watery flavorless stuff here. The crackers they served with the dip were amazing. Thin and crisp, baked to perfection and somehow topped with a layer of cheese and a few tomatoes without getting soggy. I hate tomatoes, and I didn't even pick them off! Overall, I can't really complain a bit other than the dry dry chicken in the nachos. The Happy Hour atmosphere was great, casual yet still had a refined quality to it. The bartenders were right on, the drinks were fantastic. So last year my family came here as a suggestion from me for my sister's going away to college dinner. Well let's just say it was a horrible experience from service to food. A total 360 from my first experience which was a 5 star rating. I wrote to the restaurant telling the manager how awful it was and rightfully so he sent me a coupon to come back, a generous one. We recently just went a year later and the service was worst than before. Well first it started with the waiters basically fighting over our table, I'm guessing because there weren't many customers. So a guy comes over and says I'll be right with you guys. So we look over the menu, an old lady comes by and says is someone helping you? We said yes someone already is. So she comes back and goes let me get your drinks, so we asked for what we wanted. Now this is story is so crazy it doesn't seem real but trust it was. The old lady asks my fiancé for his ID for one of the alcoholic drinks hes ordering, she looks at the ID and tells him "Well you don't look like your on the most wanted list". Like WTF is that suppose to mean? Because he's hispanic, wearing a jersey for the Skins game, nice shoes..he looks like a thug or something? That pissed me off so much. Like honestly who says that as a joke, don't even know if it was or not but really what does that mean?? She shouldn't say that to anyone quite frankly but I felt it was a racist comment. Now thats not even the worst part. When the first waiter comes back to get our order and she rushes over and says this is my table. I look at her and go we definitely told you we had someone and you still came over. She starts yelling and arguing with the other waiter right in front of us and literally the rest of the time while we were there. I really don't understand how she's still working there?? The waiter literally tried to leave and just be calm and do his own thing and she kept bugging him. It was torture being here for as long as we did. The food was sloppy and had no flavor. Four of us ate lunch at Houlihan's in Herndon, and were all very pleased with our meals. We shared the spinach dip which was served with a very light . Crispy cracker like bread, topped with chopped tomatoes and sour cream, the spinach dip was nice and creamy. The specialty burgers are piled high, and delicious fish fry served with a tasty Cole slaw and a side dish from the menu list. Every plate was displayed beautifully as well. The meatloaf was exceptional as well. I've lived in Herndon for many years and this is the first time I've eaten there, and will definitely be back. The weekend brunch at Houlihan's reminded me of eating the free continental breakfast at the Herndon Residence Inn. While it wasn't terrible, it was definitely a hotel breakfast buffet and nothing worth paying for unless it's included in your hotel stay. If you're not staying at the Crowne Plaza, there's no point in eating at Houlihan's - there are way better brunch options in Herndon. I'm happy to provide recommendations next time you're in town! So we walked into the joint, and it took a solid 5 minutes of us loitering around the host station before someone came to seat us. There were 3 of us, and we requested a booth - he quickly cleaned it before we sat down. So quickly that he missed a large swipe of jam on the side of the table that ended up on my pants. The options were pretty boring. There wasn't an omelette station, Belgian waffle maker, or a meat carving station like most buffets have. The spread included: scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon, sad looking French toast, bagels, assorted breads, pastries, muffins, cereal, pineapple, honeydew, cantaloupe, etc. My favorite part of the meal was the mimosa, which was not included in the buffet.
