Very disappointed with the Bob Evan's. I travel a bit and find Bob Evan's restaurants to be a staple in food and service. From the way they you are greeted and seated, to the food server. Usually with a cheerful attitude. NOT THIS ONE !!!!! It took 5 minutes to be seated. As I was the only one dining. I seen 4 open seating for two. With only one party of 3 in front of me, as they were seated, I waited and waited for the host ( man ) to come seat me. Like I said 4 open seating for two were in my sight. I finally was seated at one of them. The waitress said I will be with you in a minute. It was another 6 minutes, then came back and gave me the menu. I knew what I wanted and gave her my order. She said she will bring the coffee right out. She must have forgot . I ordered " Rise and Shine ". Basic as it gets, scrambled eggs, bacon, biscuit, hash browns. It takes ok 36 minutes to get my order to me. Oh yes I got the coffee In between that time period. As for the food ; it is what you expect from Bob Evan's. You know a smile goes a long way even if you are not feeling it. Please no frowning here it is a shame . I come to South Bend often and I will not be dining here. This Bob Evan's restaurant was literally next door to the Microtel hotel that I was staying in here in South Bend, Indiana. It was almost like part of the hotel. I ended up having a dinner here on my stay in South Bend. It was a casual Sunday evening here and walked into a semi empty restaurant. I assume that the restaurant staff was under staffed that evening because the server that attended to me seems flustered and seemed very busy at the time. My experience here took about an hour and a half, give or take. Things that Bob Evans restaurant is basically like an IHOP restaurant, more or less. I enjoy the breakfast items the most while traveling. so it was nice to have that in the vicinity and in walking distance.. I waited for the hostess to see me, which took about 2 to 3 minutes. It seems like everybody who was working in the restaurant was running around and trying to cover the whole restaurant itself. Once I got settled, I was given a menu and the flats server came around and asked me what I wanted. I told her to give me a few minutes and I'll get back to you. it took me about 10 minutes before the decision ended up with a breakfast special, which came with pancakes and double sausage links. I think I also had a glass of orange juice, which was refilled three times during my stay. Seems legit of course. All in all, it was a quiet dinner here at Bob Evans with breakfast options. Can't go wrong with that! The overall experience here at this Bob Evans restaurant location was as good as you can get. The ambiance was nice and quiet, so you can get in that quiet time while eating. The food itself was very typical and familiar as to what you'd find anywhere in sit down restaurants that open for breakfast. The service here was just hit or miss, maybe it is because it was a Sunday evening and they were stressed out and probably short staffed that evening. I'm not sure that there was any air conditioning or Wi-Fi here but it is what it is. I sat at a booth, so it was pretty comfortable. The restaurant itself was clean. I wish that they had a bakery inside, so I could have picked up some extra stuff and hit it in the hotel room like some restaurants do, For the most part though, the experience here was very typical and positive. Not so much enjoyable, but just I had to eat and I did not want to venture all of South Bend, Indiana to get a good meal. Within walking distance works and that's all I cared about at that moment of that particular day. So, if you like breakfast food and a dining, casual experience, and you're area of South Bend, Indiana consider coming here and you'll be surprised. I order from Bob Evans through Door Dash often. Generally everything is great but today my fish platter was awful. The onion rings were burnt. There was no tartar sauce, very few wilted fries, the Cole slaw appeared to be the last bit of slaw in the jar, all liquid and very little slaw. The dinner rolls tasted like they had been sitting around since yesterday. I couldn't even eat the rolls. So disappointed. I must say, when we originally walked in, it was a bit of a turn off standing at the Host podium for 5 mins with no one greeting us. We had just come off a 12 hours travel and were starving. When we finally did get sat, we waited another 5-10 mins and could also hear the servers asking each other who was gonna take us. It wasn't in a mean way but more like we were sitting in a section that had no server? who knows. Anyway- we got Ali and we thought she was wonderful. Very pleasant and efficient when things finally got rolling. We honestly didn't wait that long for our food to come out so I thought everything was premade and just sitting, but everything was hot. I'm not huge on Chain restaurants and this one is more like a Ihop/Denny's so I wasn't expecting much but the quality of their food was great and everything tasted wonderful, especially the French Toast. You already gotta be understanding when it comes to the Service Industry, they're more than likely short staffed or some things may be out bc of production. The customers are nicer than the staff! As I entered a customer who was leaving held the door for me. I stood to wait to be seated and saw the sign to wait so I sat down. Sat for about 5 minutes before the next customers came in who were served straight away! I had assumed that the staff were busy until that happened. The staff 100% ignored us. We eat at this Bob Evans everytime we visit our 93 yr old Aunt. We are from Chicago & always make a point to eat here. The service is great! We really like to see Penny our server. I ordered the veggie omelette with hash browns and whole wheat bread. The omelette was a little over cooked for my taste, as I prefer my eggs fluffy and a little runny, but it was pretty standard for a Bob Evans omelette. The inside was cheesy and filled with vegetables- I could have used some spinach but I didn't want to add extra toppings for the 50 cent charge per topping. The bread was very well toasted, in that it was black around the edges, but I actually prefer my toast that way so I didn't mind. The two slices were buttered well between them as diners do, and there was a nice assortment of different jellies, strawberry, blackberry, apple butter, and grape. The hash browns were ok, nothing special. One side was well browned and crispy while the other was chewy and pretty tender. I like the crispy parts better so I peeled off that side of the hash browns and ate it separately. Overall, it's a chain diner. The food is consistent with expectations, and there's a generous portion size for the price- I ended up eating most of mine as well as half of my dad's meal. read more

I was seated, not busy, most of waitresses were behind the prep area yakking it up. Table next to me was a lady who had a menu and glass of water. Waitresses kept walking by my table and the one next to me never stopping to see if we needed anything like taking our orders. I never even got a glass of water. Now if they were short staff I would get it but plenty of staff and would have been over staffed if they came out in dining room. The lady at table next to me got up and left. After 10 minutes and no interaction from anyone I stopped a waitress and ask if someone come take my order. I waited another 5 minutes and no one came. 15 minutes of my life waisted on BE. Never again, I drove out of my way to specifically get the Turkey and Dressing. I found a very nice Reaturant just done the road and was very pleased. This was my first time at a Bob Evans and I went as a group of 3. We were sat immediately and our server was really nice. She constantly came back to us to refill our waters. I ordered the sunshine skillet. Our food came out in a timely manner. Their biscuit was the softest, fluffiest biscuit I've ever had. I really enjoyed it. Overall, the food was good. I just thought there was a bit too much gravy on my food, but that's my only complaint. I definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to eat breakfast. read more

Visited with my elderly parents. I must say, the service and food were both top notch. The reason I left off a star in my review is because the tile portion of the floor was so greasy, it was absolutely dangerous to walk on. It's about time for an update. Traditionally, this is where we stop for breakfast and/or dinner before/after a Notre Dame Home Football Game. He's been coming here for as long as he can remember (long before me) and we now stop every single time we come to town. I'm convinced South Bend has other restaurants...I just don't know one thing about any of them! One season, we came to town for every home game and every time, we were at Bob Evan's for breakfast or dinner. On our last visit, I seriously suggested trying somewhere else to my husband. Blasphemy! And so we went. Again. I tend to choose lunch here at breakfast time and no one bats an eye. So last time, I had a chicken breast, corn and breakfast potatoes. This comes with a choice of bread: biscuits, toast, pumpkin bread, cinnamon coffee cake, etc. I chose the coffee cake. Nothing about my meal made any sense to the average person, but it worked out okay for me. My husband chose some forms of eggs - I think a skillet, potatoes and of course the biscuits and gravy. Remember, it's tradition! Somehow, I have avoided having to eat the traditional gravy. ;-) Overall, the food is fine. Nothing special or memorable. It's just hot food that fills you up (before a long day of drinking...when that used to be our thing). Not sure what's going on, but breakfast was not good today. I've been coming here for years, but lately, it's been a hit or miss. Nothing tasted good, much smaller porions that resembled kid portions, doughy pancakes missing sausage, etc. When the manager came over, she really didn't seem apologetic. She did offer to bring new food. Why would I want more of the same? I just told her no, plus we didn't feel like having to wait. We ordered online and curbside service was offered. When I got there I called and was immediately put on hold, after being on hold for 3 plus minutes I decided to just go inside. I picked up our dinner and the fruit I had ordered wad missing. I looked at the list that wad stapled on the bag and it was lined off. We got there and we asked for a booth but we got a table even though there were many booths available. We then waited for about 15 minutes to be asked for our drinks we me and my mother asked for sweet teas. My mom then got her sweet tea, and it was very very sweet. I got mine and mine was somewhat bitter and not sweet at all. When we asked for a new one it took a white but it wasn't bad. We then ordered and we waited for a exact hour and we asked when and they said it will be ready soon but we still left and proceeded to go to Pancake house which was amazing. read more

Over easy eggs - cold and barely cooked Hash browns - cold and cooked but almost raw Bacon - good taste but room temperature and stuck together Biscuits - room temperature and kinda hard but good taste Gravy - AMAZINGLY HOT AND TASTY I called, picked it up 5 minutes later and brought it back to the hotel next door so not much time for it to get cold. When ever you rate a chain you run the risk of being boring...it is hard to differentiate among chain outlets...but this one was good. As usual some of the chain outlets are wonderful because they have super management and some are deplorable because they lack intelligent on-site management...this one was a winner. Clean, seated quickly, nice and prompt service and the food was hot and done well. If anything was amiss, it is because it sometimes takes awhile to get the food, but as long as its hot and fresh I have no complaints. Not much else to say but this Bob Evans stands out. Might want to check quality control. Had a business lunch there today. Ordered the senior turkey with mashed. My mashed potatoes were served with someone's lipstick on the top of it. Bob Evans is, well Bob Evans. Like any chain, you know what to expect when you walk in. Decent to good food and decent service. There is always some confusion when being seated, don't know why. Somehow we end up with the same server every visit, which is great because she knows what she is doing. Pancakes are good--hard to mess up, and the pot roast hash is good too. Salads are usually surprisingly good and fresh. The staff can be rushed during peak times, so give them a break, being understaffed is rough. read more

Slow service but what was the reason for posting this was that after the long wait for drink orders we asked to order everything and was told, "I have others in front of you." And the waitress walked away. Ok, fine you're down on staff but you are keeping a queue. Well, the a guy in our little area sat down 5 - 10 mins after us had his food order after us but was served and done before we were served. We took my father, who is in a nursing home to eat on Easter, going there because it was close. We waited 35 minutes for our food and we were the only ones that were there to get an order from. This was in the middle of the afternoon at 3:30 it wasn't at a meal hour so there was barely anybody there. There were numerous employees in the back in the front and on the floor. The pancakes were leather hard. I wish I took a picture of the three slices of bacon. Half of each piece was so overcooked it wasn't recognizable, the other ends seemed so undercooked it was raw.Our waitresses' name tag said Dom, she didn't bother asking us if we wanted more drink, didn't come take away any plates from our table, she was too busy flirting with one of the other staff behind the counter. Awful food, my husband got the homestead; his eggs and ham were cold and dry along with the hash browns, the biscuits and gravy that came with it showed up 5min later. I ordered the border omelet, BARELY had any sausage, tomato, jalapeño,tomatoes or anything on it. Was very disappointed with it. The jalapeños were canned. The hash-browns were good along with the gravy(I tried from my mother) my husband and daughters sausage links were burnt on one side, and my sons pancakes have barely any chocolate syrup.
