Proof we went to get some afterwards

Grandparents (now long gone) used to take us here many years ago, so we made a point to visit while in Toledo to visit with family. We've been to BE's in Florida so we thought we knew what to expect. We got a wonderful surprise... the waitress (Shelby) was charming and very friendly. The food came and OMG. While everything was good, the sausage and bacon were absolutely amazing. I don't know if the Ohio BE's have a different supplier than the ones in FL but everyone in my party agreed this was something special. We even went to a local grocery store and got some sausage chubs that we will freeze to take home to San Diego (I hope they make it!) My peach tea almost got empty and I was going to waive down Shelby for some more and she appeared out of nowhere with a full one without asking. I don't think I've ever given 4 stars to a breakfast chain but this one is given without hesitation.

Due to the fact that Michigan restaurants are still closed for indoor dining, we needed to get out and because we were missing going out for Sunday brunch. The drive was only a forty minute drive from our house and it was well worth it. The restaurant is practicing social distancing, the floors are marked and each booth is covered with protective screen for social distancing. All staff and customers have to wear a mask up until you eat. The food and the service was great. It was a sight to see that the parking lot was full of Michigan cars. I just wish that they would open the restaurants in Michigan. Michigan indoor dining doesn't open until February 1st, I pray for all those who are affected by this. We may have to drive another day for our date night! It's so worth it! Something different to do!

Everything was good! The fried shrimp was really crispy, the potatoes were nice and creamy, and the gravy was flavorful. The sole was nicely seasoned and the veggies were good as well. The steak was cooked properly and nicely seasoned so no complaints there either. The pies were all good especially the pecan. Our waitress was great. Really attentive, fast, friendly, and kept our glasses full.

If you haven't been here before, you order at the register, pay for your meals, get your drinks, seat yourself, and they bring your food out to your table. A mix between fast food and sit-down restaurant. Sadly, not being able to find people to work is the newest pandemic here in the USA. This establishment was clean, we liked the eclectic decor, and the food wasn't bad. It's a bit pricey for the portion sizes, in my opinion, but that is commonplace in most food establishments at this point in time. We had the burnt ends appetizer, rib tips meal, and the combo of 2 meats - brisket and chopped pork. We both chose the burnt ends as our hands-down favorite of the meats. The cornbread muffins were also a highlight. I was recently gifted a smoker, and I will soon be smoking various meats, fish, seafood, etc. to save some $$$ by making our own at home. I've had BBQ in various places in the USA and am still searching for the one go-to for BBQ in the Toledo area.

At that point, we all are forced to make an irreversible decision. Famous Dave's needs to be put out of it's misery. What used to be a pleasant corporate chain - capitalizing on the early 2000's craze of Memphis bbq joints on every street corner in America, has now turned into just another empty-seated mimeograph of what happens when you combine Ridiculously-priced food with an overdone cliche. This place didn't used to be bad! I would go into famous Dave's and it would be packed, absolutely packed, with patrons... The prices were market- acceptable and the value of food was decent. For those who are not aware (And I just obviously figured this out): famous Dave's is no longer a traditional table service restaurant. As I stood at the hostess stand in the front of the restaurant, employees rushed to tell me I needed to simply place my fast food order at the counter near the kitchen. No more waitresses. No more table service. When I asked why, the employee shrugged, "well, we had to do this because of Covid. You know, we can't get enough people to work here." I obviously do not dispute Covid's impact on the already shallow talent pool of American workers, but c'mon.... How long can we stick to this excuse? I go to restaurants every week that are packed with people, packed with life, and ran by an entire wait staff, eager to work in a restaurant where their work will be rewarded by tipping customers. Just not at Famous Dave's. But the explanation is easy. This place is a sinking ship. I should've known better when I pulled into the parking lot on a Friday night and they were only two cars. I probably could've also deduced this due to the fact that 75% of the patrons seating was closed off by ropes and stanchions. The place looked like a museum that invited people to walk around and peruse cutesy southern bbq signage and artifacts on the wall but not sit down. Regardless, my son was eager, so we visited the counter anyways. To famous Dave's compliment, The woman who worked the front counter was extremely pleasant, affable, and informative. I have no idea why she can't find a better job somewhere else. After placing Orders for my family of four, I was shocked that this fast food counter service meal was going to cost me over $100. For what amounts to be fast food? Sticker shock, to be sure. As we sat down with our meals, I couldn't help but think these massive plates used to be filled with more food. I lived in the south, and I know that most barbecue joints were based on great-tasting and Wallet-friendly food that would be packed on your plate. Bang for the buck. I'm sure famous Dave had to cut back in more ways than one, but placing as little food on such massive tin trays looks deflated. Look at the attached picture. This is the way it was delivered to our table! It was almost comical. OK, perhaps I've said Nothing original here. I'm voice-dictating another review of a chain restaurant. I just think You cannot take the essence of affordable southern cuisine, cut the portions in half, take away all of the service components, and then Jack the prices up and expect to have a long life span. For all that I know, the Famous Dave's corporation might have record profits (as they should, if they continue to get suckers to shell out their hard earned cash for this pittance of food served on a cafeteria tray), but I'm willing to make a bet with any Toledoan....this location will not survive another five years. R.I.P. Dave. I knew you before you were famous!

I…read moredon't remember much about our carryout experience, but I can say with confidence we won't be back after our dine-in experience today. The food was fine. We ordered fried pickles for our appetizer and that came out within 10-15 min of us being seated. They were hot, delicious and the sauce they came with was pretty tangy and tasty. No complaints. We placed our meal order at the same time as the appetizer, but waited 20-30 min for our food to come out. We ordered Cuban and BBQ Chicken sandwiches. Our waitress came by once during that wait and told us our food would be out shortly but never gave a reason for the delay. I was irritated when the couple behind us - who were seated well after us - received their meals 10-15 min before ours came out. Our waitress was very chummy, attentive and friendly with them and barely checked in with us. Definitely didn't receive the same service. Unfortunately her tip reflected that. Our food was good. BBQ chicken sandwich was good. Needed more sauce but I asked for a side. Cuban was fine. Needed a sauce too but I used the sauce that came with the fried pickles. Fries were delicious and hot. Some of the onion rings were strange. The smaller ones mostly. They weren't even warm and had a chewy consistency. It was weird. As far as the atmosphere? Ugh. That alone killed it for me. 1) it's so dark in there. The dark floors...the dark ceilings...and all that dark wood! All that darkness paired with the depressing country music playing had me wanting to take myself out. Maybe it's good if you're there to drink your sorrows away and whatever teardrops they were singing about, but I found it irritating and agitating. BBQ isn't strictly country music - it can be blues too.

My dog's groomer is right across the street or else I would have missed out. I walked in and ordered at the register. The menu is written on a chalkboard. I was hoping for a spinach omelette but they were out of spinach (same as last time I was there). Instead I opted for a veggie omelette with cheese. I also ordered a coffee. The way their system works is that you place your order and pay; then you're seated and your beverage/food is brought to your table. I sat in a booth and my coffee was very promptly brought out to me. The ambiance is absolutely adorable with red and white tablecloths and balloons. There is also an ice cream counter. It was a very pleasant setting in which to enjoy my coffee. Within a reasonable amount of time, my omelette was served with a side of toast. The omelette was huge and filled with lots of tasty tomatoes, onions and green peppers, all finely chopped and perfectly seasoned. Hash browns were also tucked inside the omelette. Although the cheese had been forgotten, I didn't miss it too much because the omelette itself was so delicious. The toast was served with delicious homemade strawberry jam. I could only eat half of the omelette and was given a box to take it home. My server was a very sweet young girl who kept checking to see if I needed anymore coffee and if everything tasted good. At a nearby table, a woman spilled her glass of water and people from the kitchen immediately came out to clean it up. They were extremely good spirited and reassured the embarrassed woman that it happened all the time and was no problem. The atmosphere felt very warm and welcoming. I would absolutely recommend Grace's Kitchen in Point Place as a charming spot for breakfast or lunch. It's on Summit Street across from Aunt Linda's Pet Grooming and H&R Block. Check out the picture of my omelette and the inside of Graces Kitchen. (For some reason they appear below my prior review.) While other reviews note that this is a cash-only establishment, I used a credit card both times I was there, though I left a cash tip on the table this time.
