    BBQ Cuban
    Grace G.

We've been here a total of two times - 1 time for carryout 1-2 yrs ago and today for dine-in. I don't remember much about our carryout experience, but I can say with confidence we won't be back after our dine-in experience today. The food was fine. We ordered fried pickles for our appetizer and that came out within 10-15 min of us being seated. They were hot, delicious and the sauce they came with was pretty tangy and tasty. No complaints. We placed our meal order at the same time as the appetizer, but waited 20-30 min for our food to come out. We ordered Cuban and BBQ Chicken sandwiches. Our waitress came by once during that wait and told us our food would be out shortly but never gave a reason for the delay. I was irritated when the couple behind us - who were seated well after us - received their meals 10-15 min before ours came out. Our waitress was very chummy, attentive and friendly with them and barely checked in with us. Definitely didn't receive the same service. Unfortunately her tip reflected that. Our food was good. BBQ chicken sandwich was good. Needed more sauce but I asked for a side. Cuban was fine. Needed a sauce too but I used the sauce that came with the fried pickles. Fries were delicious and hot. Some of the onion rings were strange. The smaller ones mostly. They weren't even warm and had a chewy consistency. It was weird. As far as the atmosphere? Ugh. That alone killed it for me. 1) it's so dark in there. The dark floors...the dark ceilings...and all that dark wood! All that darkness paired with the depressing country music playing had me wanting to take myself out. Maybe it's good if you're there to drink your sorrows away and whatever teardrops they were singing about, but I found it irritating and agitating. BBQ isn't strictly country music - it can be blues too.

I'm not sure what's happened at Smokehouse 734... During my last two visits, I was served some really, REALLY, bad ribs. They were fatty, loaded with cartilage and gristle, and were just plain gross. It seemed like I was spitting out something inedible after every bite. Fuckin' aye. I will say that the sides (coleslaw and potato salad) were still quite excellent. Also, the service was great, too. And while I'm offering praise, I liked the beer selection. I hate to knock off 2 stars from my previous (5 star, ROTD) review, but I feel strongly compelled to do so. Honestly, I don't think I'll be back for a while.

Okay, okay...who goes to a smokehouse and orders fish? I had to. I rarely see walleye on the menu in Columbus (where I live) so it was a necessity. The walleye was so good and I liked the tartar sauce too. Tasted fresh and was flaky without too much breading. They have "great lakes" fish of the day on the menu and I was so happy today's choice was walleye. I ordered it as a sandwich (they also had it offered as meal) and I liked how it came on two slices of bread with American cheese. It all just went together. For my side I ordered the potato salad which I really enjoyed as well. Oh and the pickles that came with it were yummy too! Other friends at my table ordered fish tacos, the burnt ends appetizer and pulled pork plate. Everyone liked their meals and we had no complaints. I've been feeling a sweet tooth lately and ordered chocolate cake which was topped with vanilla ice cream and very good! The waitress said the desserts are made in house! The service was great and I like the ambiance. casual barbecue kinda like a Texas roadhouse feel.

We went on a Friday night around 7:30 and was seated right away. The restaurant is cute and clean, with rustic vibes to it! Portions are huge so be prepared for leftovers lol I'm a vegetarian, so I was excited that there was an impossible burger option since usually there is not at a smokehouse!! Side of Mac and cheese was good, but nothing special. I will gladly eat here again

The ambiance is comfortable, casual and a bit quirky in a fun way. The difference in my visit this time is that Rikki (the owner) waited on us. She was super friendly and helpful. Also, we were there the night of a huge PowerBall lottery jackpot drawing and the restaurant sold lottery tickets. We took this as an unexpected sign to purchase tickets, but didn't win. It was rather exciting anyway at the time... when we had hopes of winning, lol. My friend and I both ordered "small" pizzas that were large enough for more than one meal. My friend ordered a pepperoni pizza with banana peppers on a thin crust and I ordered thin crust with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and onions. Check out pictures below. We both enjoyed our delicious pizzas and took home leftovers. I also ordered a pizza to take home to my mom- with pepperoni and onions on a thin crust. She commented that the thin crust helped her to enjoy the toppings more and that the pepperoni was of high quality and not as greasy as pepperoni can be. This restaurant is worth the short drive to Erie, Michigan. We really enjoyed our experience here and would definitely return and highly recommend!

Decided to check it out after working from a local library. Upon walking in, the ambiance is welcoming and casual. The wood floors looked very clean and it just felt clean. Since I was here mid-afternoon, the back part of the restaurant was closed, so I took a seat at one of the bar high tops. My server was very friendly and efficient. I ordered the Baja Chicken Rollup without bacon and with ranch dressing on the side. It came out pretty quickly. And did I mention that I also had the fries?! The fries were perfectly seasoned and cooked so that they weren't too crispy or too soft. They were addictive! The sandwich was also amazing, though secondary to the fries. The side of ranch dressing was perfect. The condiments were served in small plastic containers, which were a reminder that this was great food in a bar and grill. Everything was very tasty though and I don't mean to discount the food or service, as it was top notch. Definitely recommend! Check out the pictures below!

It's usually the wait staff... They always get the eggs just right and I've never been served a broken yolk (are you listening other breakfast places?). Over-easy eggs don't have broken yolks. Their crispy hashbrowns are just that, crispy! They're not gray or half cooked potatoes. The toast is made of high quality rye bread (Schwebel's?) with plenty of butter (and it's always perfectly toasted). THE HAM!!! Oh my god, the ham! This isn't some awful ham roll, no no! It's a slice from an actual ham! Real HAM! I was told it's Dearborn ham and I'd bet that it is. If you're not familiar, Dearborn makes great stuff. So, my issues... Not sure, but the coffee seems like it changed. It's weaker now and lacks the flavor from the coffee I remember from the past. They also stopped garnishing the plates with a slice of orange. I LOVED that slice of orange. Finally, the wait staff. They have some great waitresses but every once in a while, I get one that really doesn't know how it works. Because the server can really screw up a meal, I've avoided going back for months at a time. One time the waitress brought everything except the toast. I started eating the ham and potatoes. By the time she brought the toast, the eggs were cold and I couldn't eat them. She still charged my though. Didn't go back for a year, I swear. It's really important to always bring the complete meal. If the toast chef was asleep at the wheel and the entire breakfast becomes ice cold, have the line re-fire the order. It's not the customer's fault. Anyway, it's a nice, family place. Things usually go well, but there are those times... Oh, the place gets crazy busy on weekend mornings, especially with the after church crowd, so go early or plan on a wait.
