We live in the Toledo area and this is a great restaurant to go to good portion size for a fair price.

This truly a wonderful experience for all ages and varying tastes. A tremendous and welcome change we've come to endure from other dining experiences. Here the customer is THE primary focus from the moment you walk in til you walk out the door - BRAVO!! The food, had the Mayberry Mega where you pick your 6 omelette ingredients. Normally a crap shoot in most diners but here it was a home run. The ham and sausage were nice size chunks, juicy, and full of flavor. Spinach, onions, and tomatoes were fresh and perfect sizes and good quantities for the dish. That leaves the cheese my one "ding" would have preferred shredded cheese vs sliced cheese because of flavor and texture - but it didn't take away from a wonderfully prepared omelette made and severed with genuine care. Potatoes were frozen BUT they were prepared exceptionally well for dinner dare they were soft and cooked with a nice crisp. It was a superb surprise and a very welcome one. The coffee was fresh and hot and the standard "acidic" coffees you'd find in most diners anywhere, but overall inviting enough to have a few cups for a discerning coffee "snob" like me. Place was PACKED so all tables and booth were full, but they have a nice counter service with plenty of seating and space to move and eat and be very comfortable for your meal. What's fascinating is the incredible teamwork and collective desire to ensure your time, experience, and meal are spent enjoying your company and food not staring at your watch wondering about time. The entire restaurant was seated, served, and cleared with clean tables within the time I had to get and consume my own breakfast. So if you see a packed house on your arrival and don't desire that counter seat fear not - in this home environment your wait will be short and your day will lose no valuable time - well worth some minimal patience - you'll be glad you did. Your greeted as soon as you walk in by one or more of the extremely hardworking waitresses with a smile - your also sent off with a "Thank you. have a Good Day" by one more waitresses as you leave - both excellent touch of service class enhancing customer experience. I've never seen a more well-run diner or any restaurant from the waitresses to the cooks to the dishwashers the teamwork, attention to details, customer satisfaction, and to the incredible cleanliness of the restaurant despite the constant flow of customers - I've never seen a restaurant so clean and kept so clean the out the day. So what are you waiting for come to Mayberry where a warm greeting, clean home, exceptional food are calling YOUR name today...I'm returning perhaps I'll see you there....Bon Appetite!!

My issues are the ham was a processed ham roll, and the coffee was pretty much just hot water. If the restaurant owners were real ham lovers, they'd have a "real ham" in the kitchen and they'd slice off a slab of the stuff for us folks that really love it. A nice piece off of a half or whole ham, not that awful "Cumberland Gap ham steak" stuff. Not the same stuff. Oh, real, strong coffee would be nice too.

We read…read morethe restaurant's reviews and stopped by for a late lunch at 3 p.m. They lock the doors at 4 p.m. We were impressed. There were two people who came before us, and then a group of 14, and then my husband and me, followed by another bunch of people into a restaurant that was already packed. The waitresses did not even bat an eyelid. They were very polite and were busy doing their work. They were helping seat people as well as checking out people who had just eaten. We only waited about 15 - 20 mins. In the meantime, we chatted with the locals, who told us how often they came here just to eat the pies. When we got seated, the first thing we ordered and got started on were the AMAZING pies (chocolate PB for me and custard for my husband). Oh my God, they were out of the world yummy! We got to watch the ladies on the grill as they made the food. My husband ordered he Swiss steak and I had the double hamburger with all the fixings. The food is great but so are the people who work here --they are just so friendly, have worked here for years and truly care. You don't see this anymore. If I lived here, I would come here once a week to chitchat with them and eat PIE!! Make sure you come here. This place is a gem and has been here since 1948.

Night Owl opened very recently, within the last few months, I think…read more For starters, it's in Toledo, serves filling food well after midnight, has enough space for dine-in, and is an independent restaurant with a local feel not part of a large chain. We desperately needed that after White Tower sadly closed down. (Or at best is open very intermittently. Yelp still lists White Tower as open but they've been closed the last couple times I drove by.) So I really love this place and really hope it stays open and plan to be a regular patron. I encourage all night owls in Toledo to do the same. The negative aspects of this review should be taken as constuctive criticism, to help them to improve over time. Night Owl has a really interesting atmosphere. I love how it is explicitly night owl themed, it makes me feel welcome. You can tell they put a lot of work into the lighting design and the choice of music. It gives it a kind of swanky afterhours club vibe . . . Except that completely clashes with the uncomfortable chairs and the bright light coming out of the kitchen! And also to an extent the view of Secor Road and Sylvania Avenue out the window. I'll give them a bye on the view because it's really cool how the neon lights reflect off the window, and if they partly covered the windows to mellow out the annoying suburban atmosphere they would also lose those reflections. But what I think they could really do to make the vibe more consistent would be some comfier seating, like sofas or at least more comfortable chairs, and dim the bright light coming out of the kitchen or block it off from the dining area. The seating might be difficult given the limited space available, but the light from the kitchen could be changed easily I think? Then again, I kind of like the vibe just how it is, a sort of hodgepodge between a swanky club and a carry-out focused diner. Maybe they were even aiming for that eclectic vibe on purpose. And there's something to be said for being able to see into the kitchen. As for the food, it's okay but not exceptional. So far I've tried the burger, the blueberry blintz waffles, and the owl bread. The burger was fine but I've had much better burgers. The waffles were fine but unexceptional. The owl bread was kind of a zany hodgepodge, similar to the place overall. Sausage, lettuce, and ranch dressing, what? Next time I'll probably get the chicken sandwich. At the prices they charge I would usually expect real cutlery rather than plastic cutlery. (Then again, Zingo's is similar in that regard -- similar prices and plastic silverware -- so not completely unreasonable. But Zingo's has excellent food rather than so-so.) Overall, I'm very happy to have the Night Owl around, enjoy its quirky aesthetic, and look forward to my next meal there!
