BBQ Pulled Pork Texas Beef Brisket Potato Salad

If you're in the Toledo area and craving BBQ, you can't go wrong with Shorty's! The service is friendly and quick, & it's a nice casual atmosphere, perfect for any occasion! Their BBQ is the real deal! The Memphis egg Rolls are so tasty, you won't want to stop eating them! And the brisket is incredible!!! They have a great selection of BBQ and you'll leave happy, full, and completely satisfied!

Texas Brisket Platter with 1/3 Rack Pork Ribs

First time trying this BBQ spot in Toledo. Came here with my classmates after clinicals because we were all craving BBQ. I ordered the Texas brisket platter and added a 1/3 rack of pork ribs. For my two sides, I got mac n cheese and fries. The brisket was a little on the dry side but the sweet and spicy sauce on the side helped a lot. The ribs were good too, not the fall off the bone type but still tasty. The fries and mac n cheese were solid! The cornbread was just okay. It kind of tasted like one of those box cake mixes from Safeway. Nothing special but not terrible either. Our server Marlene was super friendly and kept checking in on us. I seriously loved her energy and it made the whole experience better. There's plenty of parking and the interior had a really cozy vibe.

We came on a Saturday afternoon and were able to be seated right away. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful! We weren't too hungry so ordered one brisket platter with an added 1/3 rack of ribs and it was plenty of food. We loved the Mac and cheese as well and the spicy bbq sauce was great! The restaurant is casual and cozy, overall very comfortable. Good experience!

Incredible , melt in your mouth ribs. Enjoyed a half rack with fries (crisp outside and soft inside) and scrumpsious cole slaw. I didn't have the ribs with added sauce. There were 2 containers on table with a sweet one and a spicy one. I used both together. It would be nice if the containers were labeled because I couldn't remember which was which. Hanna was my server and she was efficient and cordial. We sat near servers' station so it was a bit noisy. I live in MI and will return.

Quite happy with our family platter meal. The bigger one fed 5 of us with some leftovers. Wish the platter had more brisket. But overall, was a fair price for a yummy meal. The outdoor patio was great too. It was a little cool and they had the fire roaring.

I thought getting hooked onto a combination of their Saucy BBQ Brisket toppled over their signature Mac & Cheese by a colleague was insane. I dare you to pay Shorty's a visit... you'll be captivated by the irresistible barbecue aromas as you get closer to their front door. Wow! Embarrassing to confess, the first time I dined at Shorty's was during last year's Restaurant Week. I was recently convinced I needed to pay them another visit which happened today coincidentally during Restaurant Week 2024 --with the intent to temporarily fix my new addiction craving. I highly recommend them for lunch or dinner. I've had a good experience on my first visit; with their catering or take out service; and placing an order online. The ambiance of the restaurant seems to be the classic backyard BBQ style.

We tries Shortys for lunch on our way through Toledo from Detroit. What an amazing lunch!!! We got the platter for two that comes with beef brisket, pulled pork, half BBQ chicken, and half rack of ribs. We added two bones of beef ribs....and this was our leftovers to take home. Absolutely delicious!! Brisket was juicy and tender. Chicken smoked and sauced to perfection. Sides were good, we had potato salad, baked beans and onion straws. Service is friendly. Large patio with covered outdoor seating. Restaurant is clean and as you would expect from a smokehouse. We will definitely be back!!!!

Birthday party at The Back Forty (5215 Monroe St). Excellent barbecue - smoky pulled pork, juicy smoked chicken, excellent and creamy Mac and cheese, baked beans with brisket, coleslaw and cornbread. The space looks new and is roomy with a large patio for when the weather is nice. The wait staff was extremely helpful and friendly. I would highly recommend this location for a private party or their catering service for your off site party.

We went again on Saturday. WOW!…read more Started with a Martini for my dining partner and iced tea for me. Both were great. The waiter (Josh, a five-star waiter if ever there was one) really knows how to take care of his customers. He really knows the menu, can explain the dishes along with their components and what makes them unique and paces each course perfectly. He even asked if we were BOTH done before any dishes were removed from the table. Nothing looks worse than one person still eating while the rest of the table has no plates in front of them. We started with the roasted carrot salad. The carrots were perfectly roasted and chilled with and amazing tahini "paste" and radicchio, perfectly dressed with a lemon vinaigrette. OUTSTANDING!!! Seriously, this could have been my entire meal! The tahini paste is great, and I made it once while making a tahini dressing for roasted Brussels sprouts. Tahini naturally gets thick (paste like) when liquid is added. To make the paste, just stop adding liquid to it and stop mixing until it gets smooth again. Seriously, delicious. We both ordered the chicken schnitzel for our entrees. It comes with a really nice side salad consisting of mixed greens, dressed again with a very mild vinaigrette. My only quibble (and it's a really small one) is I would have liked the schnitzel to be a bit thinner. That said, it was perfectly cooked, not at all dry and the thickness is up to the creator of the dish. I don't think there's a "standard" for this (ha, ha - get it!). Great breading and very tasty. The dessert... Again, had to go with the sticky toffee pudding! If this is on the menu, there's no way I'm not going to order it. GOD, it's just a perfect ending to a great meal, well, that along with a pot of French Press coffee. All in all, the meal came to $108.00 excluding the tip. Expensive, but WORTH EVERY PENNY! I spent that much a few weeks ago (maybe more) on a really awful meal/experience at a different place. You'll have to read my old reviews to figure that one out! Anyway, this place treats their employees like they actually appreciate them. They took them on a cruise! Of all the restaurants I used to work at, the best thing I ever received was a shift meal or maybe a cold beer because I was still at the place cooking apps at 1:00 in the morning and the manager wanted to go home but felt bad because I couldn't leave. Thanks for the glass of Miller Lite draft, Mr. Chi-Chi's manager guy! Everyone in the place, from the servers to the hostesses, to the bus folks and the floor manager had smiles and a sense of graciousness and appreciation to each and every customer. Try to find that at any other restaurant in Toledo. The food is top notch, made with very unique recipes and techniques you're not going to find anywhere else. The dining room and restrooms (at least the men's) are clean. I never had to ask for a refill on my iced tea or water. New silverware was brought before each course was served. The old plates were removed from the table after the staff asked if it was OK to do so. Proper training in procedure and etiquette is obvious. Again, just a great meal in every way - 10 out of 10! Can't wait to go back.

After visit #2, I'm not sure there will be a visit #3 anytime soon. The consensus among friends -- confirmed now by our own table -- is that everything is too heavy. The first few bites bring the oohs and the ahhs. By halfway through the plate, the ughs and the oofs begin. The menu reads as thoughtful and dialed in. Our table of four ordered very different entrees -- seafood, steak, pasta, salad -- and somehow every plate arrived at the same destination: rich, savory, dense. No acid. No brightness. And strangely, blue cheese and garlic had crept into every single bite, as if the kitchen could not bear to let a dish leave without them. A meal that should have pleased everyone left most of us with a mild remorse. I felt surprisingly ill for hours afterward -- not because anything was unsafe, not because it wasn't delicious, but because it was simply too much. Too rich. Too savory. The body, it turns out, asks for contrast, and we had not been given any. The service, on the other hand, is STILL outrageously good. Without question some of the best in the region -- better than nearly every higher-end room in town. But the atmosphere is stuffy, the food is one-note, and high quality is not the same thing as good execution. My wife's "medium plus" steak arrived extremely rare. My salmon was undercooked. At this price, that is inexcusable. Still -- the service. The service is something to behold.

Upon entering, there's a long bar where many people gather to sample various wines. There's also an extensive offering of potential gifts if you choose. Yes, pricey, but fun to browse. The overall ambiance is what I would describe as upscale casual, but you can also dress up as much as you'd like. It's a sophisticated and yet comfortable environment and the staff members we encountered were very welcoming and attentive. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our server, Taylor, was the absolute best!!! We started off with Lemon Drop Martinis that were perfect. (I took lots of pics but not of the martinis because we were thirsty!) We had narrowed our entree selections of salmon down to two and Taylor gave us her honest opinion of what she preferred while also telling us that the other option was very popular. Both my friend and I ordered the lighter salmon entree that was served with lemon and lots of vegetables. (I had previously had the miso soy glazed salmon with coleslaw, which was amazing.) I did not regret trying the lighter version of salmon with the vegetables and finger potatoes. The combination was perfect and the salmon was excellent and not at all fatty. Btw, the calorie count was 570 for this entree... Gotta love that! Since my friend reminded Taylor that we were celebrating my birthday, she brought out truffles with a candle. It was a very sweet and special way to end the evening- even though neither of us could eat another bite. It was boxed up and I put it in the fridge to share with my mom in the next day or so. While my experience at Cooper's Hawk sometimes varies between a 4-5 star experience, tonight was definitely 5 stars! Highly recommend!

They offer 2 no cost wine tastings as part of your meal but we did not partake. We had a reservation which is a must on a Saturday evening. You can also participate in wine tasting while you wait for a table. The tables are nicely spaced so you aren't sitting extremely close to others and being interrupted by conversation from other tables. The location is able to accommodate large groups and intimate dining. Our server was new but knowledgeable about the menu. Since we were first time customers, there is a required upsell speech that we were not interested in as people that don't enjoy wine and had no interest in a wine club so our server shortened that up for us. We are grateful for her ability to read the room. We tried the caprese flat bread for our appetizer. The bread is thin and crispy and toppings were flavorful but not overpowering. It was a light and enjoyable starter. The balsamic could have been stronger for our taste but overall, the dish was good. Our server brought out "complementary fresh baked pretzel bread". It looked lovely and had a crisp outer shell but was frozen in the middle. After completing our appetizer, we waited 40 minutes for our food to arrive to the table. Our server informed us that the short rib risotto I had order was the hold up as the short ribs were "just coming out of the oven". When our meal arrived the presentation was lovely; however, my "short rib" which was actually a large, tough, lukewarm piece of chuck roast served over mashed potatoes with grilled vegetables (not mushroom risotto) was less than I had hoped. On the bright side, those roasted veggies were top notch and the gravy which was necessary to choke down the tough meat was really quite tasty. Unfortunately, my husband's steak was also overcooked. He agreed that the vegetables were the best part of the meal. We skipped dessert as we had experienced enough disappointment for one night. The ambiance was nice, our server was pleasant and knowledgeable, the food just didn't make the grade.

I made reservations for a party of three on Marcel's website and yet the reservation didn't make it to the restaurant's reservation list... Yikes! Yet they were able to accommodate us, fortunately. We didn't realize it at first, but Chef Marcel's wife was our server. How lucky is she to eat so well on the regular?! She was very gracious and patient in tending to our table and answering our questions. Very lovely and down-to-earth! While Chef Marcel is known for visiting with customers, he was too busy iIn the kitchen when we were there. We started with the stuffed large portobello mushroom as an appetizer. It included beets and was delicious. No picture because we were hungry, but check out photos of the rest of our dinners! I should note that my two friends enjoyed the complimentary bread and raved about it. I held out for the appetizer, but the bread looked delicious. Two of us went with the weekly special of mahi mahi, which included a salad of mixed greens. The mahi mahi was served on tortilla shells with rice, black beans and cilantro. It was a unique combination that was delicious. Our other friend opted for the chicken marsala with button mushrooms over rigatoni.. She also ordered the brussel sprouts as a side and loved them. While the desserts looked amazing, we passed tonight because our dinners left us no room for dessert! Definitely recommend this restaurant for excellent service in a comfortable ambiance and delicious food!

Go to their website and simply click away on you preferences. It's really easy and worth the expended effort. The staff was very nice and accommodating. We arrived and were quickly seated. Water was brought to the table, but without ice. I asked for ice and pretty quickly received some. I would suggest always serving ice water! Warm tap water isn't very palatable to most folks. First impressions of the dining room... So, it's a fairly small room without carpet. No tablecloths or individual table lamps (this doesn't bother me, but some may find this type of dining without such refinements unacceptable). I believe in keeping costs down. Take the savings and use them for buying better ingredients. Oh, a plate of bread with an absolutely delicious compound butter was served when the water was served (a little amuse-bouche). The butter was a lemon, garlic, basil combination that was outstanding!!! Everyone loved it. We split a bottle of wine (no cocktails, sorry). That was fine. They have a nice, simple wine and beer menu. We also ordered Appetizers. If you try any of the apps, try the bang bang shrimp! Better than anything you'll get at the Japanese Steakhouse. Seriously, next time I go back, I'll probably order this for my entrée along with the Caesar salad, and more of that delicious bread! Our other app was the calamari. It was served with marinara, and perfectly cooked. Both great appetizer choices. For our entrées... I ordered the halibut, and what an amazing job chef Marcel did with it! It was sauteed with some small diced vegetables and capers, served over polenta. Maybe a bit too done, but that's just me. I like my fish to be more on the rare side. I'm not faulting anyone for this because I never specified. It was still a great, creative and delicious meal. Two of my dining partners ordered the chicken paillard. Unfortunately, they said these were overcooked and too dry to really enjoy. They both looked delicious though. Another person ordered the salmon and said it was delicious. Our 5th person ordered the mixed green salad with duck. So this was something that really intrigued me as I love duck, and rarely see it. The salad greens/bean sprouts were very fresh, really nice. The duck was sliced very nicely, perfectly cooked, but cold. The temperature of the duck is intentional. I think it would be a better dish if served warm, but that's just me. It also lacked flavor. A nice Asian soy based dressing would have been perfect with this. Soy sauce, rice vinegar, scallions, garlic, ginger, sesame oil... Anyway, we ended with a shared piece of carrot cake and coffee. The carrot cake was out of this world, and it has to be good for you since it's made out of a vegetable. The coffee is french press and should have steeped longer, but we all love strong coffee. We'll definitely go back! Nice, hidden little spot with some great food and staff. Not too expensive, clean and an easy destination.

I realized however that I didn't realize the challenges that elderly/disabled people face when dining out. I had taken my mom to her cardiologist and he suggested that I take my mom out for a late lunch- which I enthusiastically embraced. Upon arriving at My Way Bistro, we were able to park in a handicapped parking spot with a slope to the sidewalk, which was helpful to my mom, who relies upon a walker for mobility. Upon arriving inside the restaurant, we were given our choice of booths or tables. I never realized before that the tables and booths are very high for someone with limited ability to lift their arms. There were no other options that we saw and my mom did her best to settle into a booth that I found comfortable but the table was clearly too high for my mom. She was a great sport however and made do with the high tabled booth. My mom ordered a lamb gyro with fries and I ordered my usual Georgia Reuben with fries. My mom was very pleased with her gyro. It had lots of vegetables and meat, and she said the tszazicki (sp?) sauce was delicious. She also enjoyed the fries. I loved my Georgia Reuben because the cole slaw has a kick of black pepper and other ingredients that make it taste amazing. The homemade Thousand Island dressing was soooo delicious! I was a little disappointed in the fries because they were fried more than I prefer but were still good. Best of all, we both took home leftovers! Seriously, the plates couldn't adequately support the generous portions of food with heaping amounts of fries- and I say that as a good thing! The ambiance is that of an upscale sports bar, but was pretty quiet when we were there, even though screens were turned on. Our server was very responsive and efficient. Overall a great experience and I definitely recommend checking out My Way Bistro for amazing sandwiches (also offer salads that I haven't yet tried) that are levels up from typical bar food.

There was a large group of people on our side of the restaurant that seemed to know one another. They were rather boisterous and seemed to have consumed a fair amount of alcohol. Even witnessed a middle aged woman who could hardly walk out on her own. Prior to her bumper-pool walking style on the way out, as she was seated, she hoisted up her leg and placed her heel on the man's shoulder she was with. Mercy! Alcohol can cause strange events to happen. We both ordered the Blackened Salmon Quinoa Salad with the Walnut Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing. Salad cost $18. To me, the salmon portion was a bit smaller than anticipated, but had a good blacked spiced mix and done very nicely.

The waitresses did not even bat an eyelid. They were very polite and were busy doing their work. They were helping seat people as well as checking out people who had just eaten. We only waited about 15 - 20 mins. In the meantime, we chatted with the locals, who told us how often they came here just to eat the pies. When we got seated, the first thing we ordered and got started on were the AMAZING pies (chocolate PB for me and custard for my husband). Oh my God, they were out of the world yummy! We got to watch the ladies on the grill as they made the food. My husband ordered he Swiss steak and I had the double hamburger with all the fixings. The food is great but so are the people who work here --they are just so friendly, have worked here for years and truly care. You don't see this anymore. If I lived here, I would come here once a week to chitchat with them and eat PIE!! Make sure you come here. This place is a gem and has been here since 1948.
