The sugar though may elevate my A1C to crisis level. My id self says no but my ego says yes! It's the best - self serve customization is the way to go for picky people like me! Pretty decent boba shop, definitely plays on the gimmick of self-serve DIY customizable drinks. The drinks are a bit more expensive than similar sizes at other boba shops, but you're given the freedom to mix and match drinks and toppings. Everything is self-serve and the drinks are placed in a line after the toppings. Although they did have many different flavors, a lot of them seemed a bit suspicious and we didn't want to try them, since it seemed like the machine was broken and the liquid had just been sitting instead of being stirred (see pictures). It became very frothy and disgusting. However, I'd recommend their milk tea drinks - their oolong and jasmine green teas were good. The yakult/yogurt drink was also good! Overall the drinks come pretty sweet already, and you're only allowed to increase the sweetness ... they provide syrups at the end to add to your drinks. I would have preferred a base drink to be less sweet and customize it by adding syrup. The toppings overall weren't too impressive, and the tapioca in particular was nice chewy but had no flavor. Definitely remember to get ice! The drinks are a bit lukewarm since they've just been sitting at room temperature. read more

Boba Up is a self serve boba store. You buy the cup then choose your drink & toppings. They give you a glove but the toppings bar seemed a bit uncovered considering the pandemic. There's plenty of options for drink and toppings however if you get tea I recommend sweeting it because the tapioca boba and the tea are both very very lightly sweetened. I came back here to try their milk teas and again, and DEF they improved a lot! I get the Brown Sugar Milk Tea and I add a little more black tea so I can taste a little more tea (I like my tea strong). I can put as much boba as I want too! Stopped by after dinner because we heard a self-serve boba spot opened up recently. Intrigued, we wanted to check it out for the experience of it. The concept of it is really cool. You pay at the front first, they give you a cup, and then you put in whatever toppings you want, ice (to your liking), and whatever drink they have available. They also have sample cups for you to try their drinks before committing, which is nice. Personally, I don't think the milk teas weren't the best. I ended up mixing the yakult tea and mango passion fruit green tea together with boba (should've gotten other toppings... woops) I regret not trying the slush drinks since they're all the same price too... but maybe if I ever go back, i'll try it out. read more

Oh my lanta! I'm so glad that I stumbled on this little place. A self serving boba place... it was amazing. They had a lot of varieties. Don't rush and just pick whatever, I recommend actually sampling ones that you actually want to try, because they have a lot of cool and yummy flavors. As for topping and whatnot I would say get a large and pick whichever toppings you want because you literally pay one price for everything. There's no extra charge for the amount of toppings. Tried this place based on other Yelpers and would give it mixed reviews. We were craving a Boba waffle and it tastes basically like a regular waffle, like I could make at home. Nothing at all special, waste of money. The waffle was was mealy and not at all crispy, like the ones at Happy Lemon. Plus the presentation was weird, folded in half and stuffed into a cup. Made it more soggy. Happy Lemon is served in a paper sleeve and kept flat. That is the real Bubble Waffle. This one is not. We tried Strawberry Green Tea and it was pretty good. It's hard to know how much sugar is already in the drink, just to know. We would not return here. The owner's comments he left on my review totally missed the point. Bubble Waffles are not typically served with toppings. If they are good, they are delicious with no toppings. No idea what the owner meant about the sugar level. And we never mentioned Strawberry Cumquat. We will continue our quest for Boba waffles, not this place for sure. read more

Boba Up has its own niche within the bubble tea spots in Seattle. Although not it's not my regular go-to place, I do like to swing by every once in a while when I want to make my own drink and overload on toppings. For all that customization, there is some loss in flavor quality because everything has to be kept at the ready. I'm still working on my balance of sugar, add-ins, and flavor but no matter what I make, I always feel like the drink ends up with too much sugar. I love their concept and their toppings are good. I also love how they have little samplers so you know and can taste what you are getting. Everything here is self service. You pay for the cup. But for me, the flavoring of some the reason was either very bitter like they over cooked the tea or very watered down. But on the plus side you can adjust your sweetness :) ! Cause at the end there's a syrup you can add to your drink to make it sweet. I think for me I had to put 7tbsp... I hope that helps.... OH! Don't forget to grab a sticker! read more

I usually enjoy going to Boba Up. I find the concept of self-serve bubble tea very fun and interesting. However, I found out on 3/9 that they no longer let people people bring their own drink container, even if the containers have volume measurements on the side. I always bring my drink container around when I get bubble tea as to reduce the amount of plastic I am using. I've been going to Boba Up since it's soft opening and every time I went before they would be okay with me using my container. I would even pay more just to use it because my container is ~600ml and the largest size they have is 700ml. This time when I went up to pay, the cashier explained to me that they don't allow people to bring their own containers anymore and after I explained that I had done this before and even showed her the measurements of my container, she still said no without giving reasoning to the decision. I was really turned off from that moment on since every place I go to from coffee to bubble tea place has not turned me away for bringing my own container. Also, one of their machines broke while we were there and a milk tea would not stop coming out of the machine which ended up getting another customer covered in milk tea. They had such a great start but after my recent experience I would not recommend any more of my friends to go there. read more

I had a sudden craving for boba tea one afternoon and decided to try out this new(ish) place. Being spring break, the large interior was fairly empty. I'm not a bubble tea connoisseur, but I enjoyed the "diy" concept, and selected standard boba and mango for my topping, along with strawberry popping balls (?). I chose the mild but pleasant taro milk tea for my drink - my usual go to. It was room temperature but you can choose to add ice if you want. I personally added way too many toppings to my small drink, and ended up with a gelatinous mass of toppings after quickly drinking all the tea. Omg love coming to this place! Their brown sugar milk tea is the absolute besssst. Their boba is perfect and I love their topping and milk tea selections. I also love that they have freeze options as well. My favorite mix is the brown sugar milk tea topped with some frozen coffee... YUM! I've never cared too much for the DIY type of places but I've gotta say, I really do enjoy this one. They have a huge variety and you can taste test as many as you want. They're also all pretty sweet by themselves but you can always add more sweetness to them. I bought the regular sized cup which was almost $6, - filled it with boba, egg pudding, mango passionfruit tea (had to water it down because it was way too sweet). The ice machine was also not working so I couldn't add ice. The boba was hard, tea was still too sweet even after watering it down, and the drink being lukewarm didn't make it any better. However, it gets 4 stars overall because the concept of making your own boba is pretty fun and you can get a HUGE cup for $5 and loaded up with any combination of toppings and teas you want. Was a super fun experience up until one of your employees a young white girl wearing a braid who was cleaning up but blocking the area for boba toppings grabbed the ladle I was using to scoop toppings and yelled at me to not put it back in the topping, understandable I had accidentally touched the bottom of it to my drink but hadn't realized but absolutely rude and horrible customer service yelling at me. She then wiped it off with the rag she was using to wipe the area and stuck it back in the pudding which seems super unsanitary. Super disappointing compared to other boba places i've never seen an employee so miserable. I do hope you can employ better people who actually value customer service at work and have manners. read more

This place is DIY boba. Not only do you get to choose your own toppings, you also get to sample all the drinks. You can mix them up, add plain tea, milk, water, etc. There are tiny sample cups so you can sample anything you want! That was my favorite part -- getting to try all the different drinks. However, the drinks are way too sweet and there's no way to modify that. You can dilute with water, milk, or tea but it's not quite the same. They also have some snack foods that I did not try -- perhaps next time. Overall, it wasn't bad and it was fun to try at least once. read more

Self Serve Boba? What is better for client with Self serve? So plain taste of each tea and slush which doesnt have any delicate flavour of Boba, tea and Brown sugar combination. As it is Self serve, never expect good or deep flavor of Boba even if u are Boba barista, there is no way to put some flavour or trick of your own in this very limited self serve shop. If u expect this place may allow refill as they have very limited tastes, never come here~! They just allow one cup and never again. Price of Small cup 3.99 Medium 4.99 Large 5.99$. Then why do clients come this Self-labored place to pay same money as other proffessional Bobas which are prepared by pro barista to put real delicate flavours ? And they are within just 2-3 minutes walking distance from here. Recently UW area has a trend to have Self Serve restaurants but they are only welcomed by clients when they offer lower price and better flavour, because clients do the Serve by themselves to save money for better quality. It is strange why there are so good reviews and 5 stars but, I doubt this place will be seen next summer season here read more
