I had a sudden craving for the croissant taiyaki so off I went one day. I tried both the one with red bean paste and custard inside, and they were both great! I also had some fruit tea, which came in a huge potion and I enjoyed it on the way back home. It was a hot day so the iced tea was perfect. People working there were so kind and friendly too! The milk tea was piping hot! Literally had to let it sit for 5 mins before I can take my 1st sip. It wasn't overly sweet like other places and you can actually taste the flavor of the tea. Also, i love the swivel lid it comes in. I'd definitely order this again, especially on a cold rainy Seattle day. The matcha ice cream red bean crepe was pretty tasty, as well. Ice cream was still in it's ice cream form; surprisingly, it did not melt from the freshly made crepe. The highlight was the croissant taiyaki! I was shocked with the crispness of the outside and the soft and slight chewiness of the inside. We got 2 different ones, 1 with custard cream & the other with matcha ice cream. What an adorable little bear themed cafe! Food - Pretty interesting selection of desserts, ranging from crepes to cakes and even boba. Overall I liked the tea, but was underwhelmed by the crepe. The crepe filling itself was decent, but the outside of the crepe had a sort of oil-like film that made it unpleasant to eat through. Overall it was a decent sweet treat. I'll have to come back and try one of their cakes Service - Fairly fast service, you get a number and the number is called out when your food is ready. I do wish the employees spoke a little louder to make it easier to hear them. There isn't a public bathroom available which is a downside since the handheld crepes can get messy sometimes. I visited Oh Bear Tea House a few weeks ago. I liked how the shop was decorated with lots of bear stuffed animals. The drink menu was extensive. There was taiyaki, crepes, sandwiches and few other food items available as well. I got the white peach oolong tea. The peach overpowered the oolong and the drink needed ice. It was a good drink but not great. I'd like to come back next time that I'm in the area and try a different drink to give this business another chance. read more

Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #61 We visited Oh Bear Café & Teahouse during the last weekend of the U District Cherry Blossom Festival, intrigued by their drink special. Walking in just after lunch, the place was completely empty, and remained desolate as the bobarista prepared our drink. Maybe this is more of an after dinner kind of place? We ordered a single drink special: Rose Oolong Milk Tea With Cherry Blossom Crema, 50% Sugar, Light Ice w/ Boba ($5.50) - The drink is sweet and tastes like rose syrup, making it reminiscent of eating baklava - just add some pistachios and honey and it's there! It's pretty sweet even at half, but not cloyingly so. The drink is topped with a tangy, salty cheese foam and dusted with powdered sakura petals, making it quite fragrant and flowery. The boba is kind of strange in terms of texture. It's a bit leathery and soft, but not mushy. The front teeth bite through the pearls without much of a response back, and yet there's still a decent amount of bounce with the molars, although somewhat leathery. Some parts of the boba stick to the teeth while chewing. It's very strange and I can only recall off the top of my head one other boba shop with this texture - a place in Japan I visited about a decade ago. It's strange, but not unpleasant. Came here with a friend but the drinks took quite some time to come out (perhaps they were short staffed) and the boba wasn't that great. Came in on a Sunday. I ordered their white rabbit milk tea with boba at 50% sugar. The tea was ok, didn't have much flavor but maybe it's because I cut the sugar. The boba was kind of mushy, not really too chewy or sweet. Our drink also took over 30 minutes to come out which is on the longer side for boba. The inside is really cute though! Oh Bear Cafe is one of our favorite places to go in the U District! The unique and cute decor with the bears even being handcrafted and for sale truly makes it one of the best experiences in Seattle. (Based on 2 drink orders, have not tried dessert options!) Perhaps i came on an off day! Hate to ever knock a cute local spot. But will probably not be running back to retry for a bit. This is such a cute and cozy spot and I really wanted to like it, but the drinks themselves were disappointing. The Thai coffee (see pic) looked nothing remotely like the photo, which is normal, but it also had zero Thai tea flavor and tasted more like a mocha. The osmanthus oolong milk cap with boba - the tea flavor was incredibly weak. I tried to focus on the add ons to make the best of it, but chunks of the flower and stamens were throughout the bottom and would come up with every bottom sip, and boba themselves were also not great in flavor. The salt cream foam usually will fix any other issues for me, but in focusing on it I noticed my tongue got covered in a super oily film - but it had good flavor at least!! read more

We got black sesame latte. It was great! You can taste black sesame and choose sugar levels. Unlike other places, theirs don't have sugary after-tastes and you can feel great after, especially when the outside is cold weather. We also got croissant taiyaki with boba milk tea custard. We both loved the nuttiness of the sesame and hint of sweetness from the sesame and boba. My Yelp+1 got the classic brown sugar milk tea at 50% sweet and regular ice. It had a good balance of tea and milk. He would have liked more brown sugar flavor with the boba, but we agreed the texture of the boba was spot on. Great chew, not over cooked. The speciality crepe was also so good! Bf said it was very nostalgic for him. Taiyaki was probably the least fave of ours. It was good for what it was - hot dough with ice cream. But we were hoping for a little more pizzazz. Room for improvement: Service was...eh. Food came out quick, which is a plus. But the cashier seemed annoyed with us when taking our order. My bf said she was annoyed with her coworker so...showing some grace there. But had he not translated, it's hard not to feel like the worker was taking it out on us. Selection: Bf had opinions with the quality of selection of the refrigerated and packaged food items. His words: "If you're going to offer food, at least put in a bit more effort than selling pineapple cakes you can find at Costco. If you're gonna sell those, at least find a local bakery who makes them." He makes a point. They were also selling them for $4.50 a cake, which you can buy a box of 16 at Costco for $13.33. THE CROISSANT TAIYAKI!!! God bless this place for not trimming the edges of the taiyaki so we get the crispy edges beyond the fish shape the taro filling is not too sweet and perfectly smooth. The croissant taiyaki is lighter in texture than regular batter taiyaki but much richer and satisfying in flavor imo. The tea here is not as strong as i prefer but always nice to have with the sweet treat. Any of the little containers of cake are fire as well, haven't tried one I haven't liked. read more

Came to Oh Bear quite excited to try a croissant taiyaki, but the white rabbit fresh milk with boba also caught my eye. So my friend and I decided to order the drink and a handmade taro croissant taiyaki. All in all we're leaving pretty disappointed. Taste wise we thought the drink was okay, just tasted like sugary milk, which to be fair is essentially the taste of a white rabbit candy. We loved that the lid just twisted open instead of having to stab a piece of plastic at the top. As for the croissant taiyaki, after 10 minutes had passed we assumed that maybe it took 15 to make. But once it had been 20 minutes and we noticed the employees standing around, we had a hunch that our order had been forgotten. So we went up to the counter and we're told our taiyaki would be ready in 5 minutes. Once we did get the taiyaki, it really didn't taste like anything extra ordinary or worth waiting for. It was not filled with a ton of taro, so you're mainly just getting the bread. I mean, if they get it to you in 5 minutes like they're supposed to, it's probably worth it, but not if you have to wait 25 minutes like we did. The overall ambiance of the location was cute. It's filled with a lot of overpriced stuffed bears, so significant others and parents beware, your partner or kids might want a $45-$80 bear from there. They are cute, but overpriced. If you're nearby, then maybe consider checking this place out, but don't drive out of your way to get here. read more

I saw the white rabbit candy milk tea and that piqued my interest. It's something that's makes Oh Bear stand out aside from the numerous amount of bear plushies in the store. In addition to drinks, Oh Bear sells pastries, cakes, and sandwiches which are self picked. Like some others echoed in other reviews, the white rabbit candy milk tea (no adjustments) just tasted like milk. I did get a hint of the candy flavor but it was overwhelmingly just milk. Additionally, there was no tea flavor so I'm not sure why it's considered a milk tea. They also offer croissant taiyaki's with numerous filling options. This is the most adorable tiny little cafe ever. The decor inside with all the little teddy bears just makes me happy looking at it. They've got a case of amazing looking desserts but it was the croissant taiyakis that caught our eyes.
