The shop itself is very roomy with plenty of seating, so it's a nice spot to hang out for a bit. They even have board games, which makes it feel more fun if you're coming with friends. I visited YiFang for the first time in Milpitas after a friend recommended it as one of their favorite boba shops. This was just a couple of months after the world came out of the Covid lockdowns, so while I received a drink that was honestly pretty bad, I thought that perhaps it was a one off issue. I was still hesitant on giving the UW location a try, but decided to head there anyways. This location has a huge screen right in front used to order. They charge an extra 30 cent fee for orders under $10 (displayed very prominently on the kiosk). Honestly I think the screen is way too big and very awkward to use. Earl Grey Milk Tea, 50% Sweet, Less Ice w/ Boba ($6) - This drink does not taste like Earl Grey at all. No hint of bergamot whatsoever. It's heavy on the creamer, not so heavy that it overwhelms everything else, but very noticeably on the creamy side. Taste-wise, it's either black tea rather than Earl Grey, or it's so watered down that all the bergamot flavor is gone. The creamer is not the issue. It *does* taste like black tea, a little hollow in fragrance, but it's there. On a positive note, half sweet is the definition of not-too-sweet and less ice is also pretty good, cooling the drink down entirely but leaving no ice chips at end. The boba is strangely rough on the exterior, with a bit of stickiness, but lots of microbumps that really stand out when moved across the tongue. There's a nice chew and a nice bounce, but that roughness feels a little off putting to me. In addition, some of the pearls tended to clump together into larger masses, making it a bit more difficult to separate and suck up the straw. Milk Tea Rating: 2/5 Boba Rating: 3.5/5 I'll be honest - if I had ordered the black milk tea and gotten this drink, it would likely have been a 3.5/5. But I ordered the Earl Grey, and the drink I got tasted nothing like Earl Grey. I usually don't mention interior of the store in my reviews, but I have to say - this shop is filthy. Note that YiFang IS OPEN during COVID for TAKEOUT. However, this review is for before COVID standards were enforced. YiFang deserves an update since my last review. In the months after opening, they have become more efficient with the ordering process. They're not super fast, but I only wait around 15 minutes now. They also make the brown sugar milk all day, instead of just after 3:30pm which is a huge plus. The brown sugar milk is definitely their best drink here; it's rich, creamy, and has a very strong brown sugar taste (even stronger than Ding Tea's Monster Latte). You can't adjust the sweetness though. Also the drink is around $6-$7 so it's definitely on the higher-end as far as pricing gies. Ive tried their Yakult Mountain Tea as well, but it was too florally and pineapple-tasting for my liking. I haven't been here since the virus outbreak, but my friends have been ordering drinks to-go here so I know that they are open. Of all the bbt spots in Seattle, I have to say YiFang is my favorite. Their signature fruit tea is THE best I've ever had and their boba is always on point. They do tend to be on the sweeter side, but you can always adjust the sugar levels. Pretty much every drink I've had, I request 30% or 50% sugar and it's been perfect for my taste. The fruit tea is so fragrant and all of the various fresh fruits they add make is so refreshing. I also really enjoy their wintermelon and taro teas. Nothing I've tried from there taste like that gross powdery bbt stuff and I think the quality of ingredients they use is good. The pulp texture was just so overwhelming and unsatisfying. Overly priced $8 drink thrown away after the first sip. Just isn't my type of tea. Additionally, their efforts to mitigate covid was nonexistent. I always get passion fruit green tea wherever I go, so this was a taste test! The passion fruit green tea at YiFang is a little more fruity tasting, which was ok, but overall taste of tea and passion fruit didn't mix too well. There were a TON of seeds in the drink, and especially since the boba is small (which I wasn't expecting), it was kind of annoying to get a ton of crunch from the seeds. There's not too much seating inside, but the space is quite large for people to stand in. Not sure if I would be back getting the same drink, although other people I were with enjoyed their drinks. Teas tried: 1) Fruit Tea - loaded with freshly cut fruits, this tea was pretty refreshing. Got this at less ice and 50% sugar and it seem like a pretty good ratio. If you like your tea on the less sweet side, I think you can safely go with 30% sugar and still get a nice slightly sweet taste of this drink. 2) Honey Floral Tea - If you're more of a tea tea person, you can't go wrong with this option. Tea flavor was on point and at a regular sugar level, this drink itself wasn't overly sweet. Love the ratio of honey to tea and definitely would order this drink again. Pearls/Boba/Tapioca - YUMMYLICIOUS! These tiny little balls had the perfect chew, sweetness, and texture and is definitely the best I had so far in regards to the boba places in the U-District. We got our drink after 5 min wait, and apparently there is a way to poke through the plastic cover for the drinks(there is an instruction sign somewhere in store). I just kinda brute forced it and it worked. The tea taste different and it is refreshing. I like Sun moon black tea since i was there back in March this year, but i would say it is still not as good as what you would get locally in Taiwan. The grass jelly is more firm than other places and have a good texture, the mini boba don't have much taste. Overall i would say raise one sugar level here since they use less sugar than most places. I am rarely here if not for the car maintenace, but it is worth coming here for. I can see what the big hype is about Yi Fang Tea... but I personally don't agree with it. But YiFang Tea has been branching out along the PNW for the past couple years now, and they've finally come to Ave. Now my opinion is what it is, JUST an opinion. I've had their fruit tea in Vancouver and it was okay. First off I'm a coffee drinker. But I do like all types of tea. Bubble Tea/Boba joints have been opening along and around the Ave steadily for the past 4 years. YiFang is trying to bring old-fashioned Taiwanese premium tea made with real ingredients to North America. Great. I tried their Salted Cream Oolong Tea (aka Oolong Macchiato)... don't think I'll order it again. I think my expectations were higher then they should have been. I've previously ordered the fresh fruit tea from here and wasn't super impressed. I think fresh fruit tea is just not my thing. The second time I visited though I ordered a pineapple mountain tea with almond jelly. It's quite possibly the best bubble tea drink I've ever had. The pineapple flavor isn't too strong and the almond jelly has a nice nutty flavor that seeps into the rest of the drink. It's not too sweet either. YiFang is located a little further north up "the Ave" near Morsel. I was surprised to put in an order on a huge screen, which had a lot of photos of the drinks so that was helpful. I wasn't able to figure out how to adjust the sweetness using the ordering kiosk, but I guess I should have asked! I ended up just getting full sweetness and wow, yes, it was sweet. I had the Brown Sugar Pear Oolong Tea Latte. The boba was very brown sugary tasting! I liked it actually. I think I'd like this drink more if I had toned down the sugar to 50% or less. Definitely not the best bubble tea I've ever had but it was not the worst. There are very few non-dairy options (3 to be exact per the cashier) and couldn't bring myself to guzzle down a ginormous drink with soy substitute (yuck). I got a hot oolong milk tea which were one of the three options that are made with non dairy creamer with pearls but was sorely disappointed when taking a first sip and realizing they used mini-pearls rather than the normal sized boba. Maybe next time I wull take a lactaid and venture for a whole milk one. I was most intrigued by the taro milk tea where the use real taro!
