I miss the heyday of Washington, DC restaurants with the hustle and bustle of the lunch time crowd but at least the quality of the food is still excellent at Bobby Van's Grill. The Executive Lunch special is two course offering that is excellent. Our server Rudy took very good care of us. The place is now quiet which can be a plus if you don't like the loudness of many restaurants today. Food was excellent.

Food is great. Employees are very nice. Service was extremely slow. I was with a large group of about 20 people. We sat in a private area that's extremely dark. Two of the lightbulbs are out. I'm not sure if that's for ambiance. I requested a medium well filet and it was perfection! Many restaurants get this wrong and send it out burnt and dry. My filet was crispy on top and juicy inside.

Bobby Van's offers a great dinner deal on Fridays and Saturdays: a shareable Cajun steak with two sides, plus appetizers (shrimp, caesar salad, or French onion soup) for $99. Generous portions, enough to take plenty home. We were stuffed, but couldn't resist the hazelnut brownie for dessert. Nice, attentive service throughout. But the wine could've been served at a slightly colder temperature (for a steakhouse, this should be a given IMHO). It was a bit sad to see hardly any other diners with us on a Friday night. Sure, it was a bit cold and rainy that night, but I was so surprised how empty the place was. I remember Bobby Van's was always bustling pre-pandemic. I worry for downtown DC restaurants like theirs. Unless you're on Washingtonian's Best Of list, the classic, tried-and-true places may not be long for this world. I hope Bobby Van's will make it.

Visited Bobby Van's on the Inauguration Day and the place was absolutely packed, which provided for an amazing ambiance. The food was exceptional. Between my husband and I, we tried the spicy fried calamari appetizer, the Cesar salad, the Cajun pasta and the ribeye. Everything was very well prepared. We were too full for the dessert, but the menu looked pretty good: lemon cake, hazelnut brownie, just to name a few.

Came here for a large group dinner. Space was nice and big for everyone and we weren't crowded at all. Service felt unorganized and a lack of communication putting in orders and getting food and drinks. I tried the French onion soup for my appetizer but wasn't all that great. The cheese and bread just felt so dense in a big glob that it wasn't as satisfying as I'd hoped. The salmon was a bit salty and side dishes were served family style but not enough to go around for the whole table. The steak was pretty good but was still craving the side dishes by the end of the meal.

If the manager April (to the right of this pic) is any representation of all Bobby Vans', then I'll be visiting all of them! She's absolutely phenomenal, greeted us with so much light, a great smile, and amazing energy. I had a service dog with me (I always call ahead to let the restaurant know) and even without knowing that she was so respectful and loving! This review is purely specifically for her service/hospitality, and for the filet diablo w shrimp! So delicious and perfectly cooked to a great medium rare. Thanks again April! Amazing dessert for the family

Amazing service that gives perfect expectations for what is displayed at the restaurant. They give great recommendations, helping you to find your delicious dish. The food came out extraordinary and exactly how the waiter described it to be. We were welcomed to the table with a smile and a lot of nice manners. Our waiter was named Owen and gave off a very good and polite vibe. The restaurant was perfect because of the looks and the politeness given off by everyone in the restaurant. I think that it is a little pricey, but worth the money and a very nice place for tourists and your family to have a spectacular dinner.

I went this past friday to celebrate my birthday. They had this spectacular deal for $100. You get 2 apps, a cajun ribeye 26oz, and two sides. The portion sizes were great. We ordered the french onion soup & bang bang shrimp for our apps. The shrimp was a nice size and very scrumptious. The french onion soup was good but the bread in the soup didn't soften like I hoped. I still enjoyed it nonetheless. We ordered the cajun ribeye medium and it was cooked to perfection. For the sides, we ordered the brussel sprouts & truffle fries. The brussels had balsamic & thick pieces of bacon. You can never go wrong with bacon! They were both worth it! The service from the staff was great & the food came out in a timely manner. I will def be back! In the end, they surprised me with a NY cheesecake with strawberries. It was sooooo good!

The lamb chops and salad were delicious .

This place is always good. They used to have a great deal on Groupon but it's not there anymore. I love the Cesar salad. The food is always presented well and the taste is consistent. The service and atmosphere is one for family or date night. The service is always great.

This is very nice restaurant. It gives me where people go to have secret meetings. not sure why I get that vibe but that's what I got. The staff was amazing and on point. I ordered the Big Beef Nacho. My friends kept asking me why I order nachos at this type of restaurant. I wasn't that hungry tho. The only reason I am giving them a four is because they didn't have salsa for the nachos. Like how do you serve nachos and have no salsa. My nachos were extremely dry. The cheese was melted and hard with no taste. I would recommend using a cheesy more liquid type cheese. That will help with the dryness. Other than that my friends loved their food. It was a good experience.

Although they offered us the elevator, it was located on the opposite side of the restaurant, making it a bit difficult. The portions are quite generous, so if you're not a big eater, you may want to consider sharing a dish. One thing to note is that the restrooms are gender-neutral. While they were very clean, I found this a little inconvenient when visiting with children. If you plan to go on a weekend, expect the restaurant to be lively and a bit noisy. Also, avoid the parking lot next door if possible--it was very chaotic and not worth the hassle. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience with excellent food, great drinks, and friendly service. We arrived at 7:45 on a Saturday night to see if there was room for two or at least room at the bar. I wish the hostess had told us that we could wait at the bar for a table to open up, as we saw that's what many other patrons did, but she told us there was bar seating and high tops and so my husband and I went on up. We easily had our choice of two seats at the bar or a high top, and we selected a high top. After 5 minutes of no one acknowledging us, my husband and I told each other we would wait two more minutes before we would bail. Right as we were about to jump ship, a server came by and asked if we wanted menus. We said sure but it was just strange that no one greeted us, it was just "you want menus?" Lol. Another server brought us menus and asked if we would like water and a breadbasket. We said yes and after about 15 minutes, bread arrived. We chatted with the server about what drinks we should order; I ordered a French 75 and my husband ordered a special Sazerac. We also ordered the tuna carpoacio. After about 10 minutes, the server came back and to confirm if I wanted the soft side cocktail and if my husband wanted an old fashioned. We said we did not and corrected him. Then, a server tried to give our drinks to the table next to us and our server corrected him and brought steak tartare. And then he goes "oh wait, did you order this?" We said no and he asked if we wanted it because if not he had to throw it away lol. And then 5 seconds later, the tuna came. Both the tuna carpaccio and the steak tartare were delicious. But this was the entire evening: we ordered something, something else came. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose, and an espresso martini appeared on the house. We had to ask for our bill twice and when we got our bill, it was definitely someone else's. Finally, as we were preparing to go, the original server comes back and goes "here's your espresso martini." Like bro we asked you originally for the check and we are clearly leaving. Luckily, my husband and I had plenty of time before our show, it was a great atmosphere, and the food was super delicious. It was just such a comically bizarre experience and I feel like they are definitely losing money. I think we paid for half of what we ate and drank and probably ate and drank other people's food! Maybe we will go back? Maybe not lol

Steakhouses are…read morethe favorite for networking and educational dinners in my world - and even though there's a location in NYC, I had never heard of the chain before. That being said, I was curious to see how it stacked against other steakhouse chains - so off we went. Mastro's gives off similar vibes to other steakhouses I've been to - the interior is dark, with over the top finishes and an overall masculine aesthetic. We were seated in the main dining room - it wasn't too large, though I'm not sure if there were other rooms. There were no real surprises on the menu, though I noticed they had a good selection of wagyu cuts from the US, Australia, and Japan. We decided to start with drinks and then some apps - namely, the wagyu roll, house salad, crab cake, and seafood tower. There was no question the seafood tower was the biggest showstopper. We were able to choose which seafood to put on it, and it came adorned with dry ice for that dramatic effect. To top it off, they even flashed strobe lights against it when presenting to make it extra Instagram ready. The seafood itself was delicious, and the other apps were good as well. My only critique of the apps was the house salad - they were too heavy handed with the dressing, it would have been better if it was dressed sparingly. While the wagyu was tempting, I went with the filet for my main. The beef was cooked well (not well done), and topped with an herb compound butter which really added to the meat. We also ordered sides of broccolini, lobster mashed potatoes, and lobster mac and cheese. These were all good, though I don't find the existence of lobster mash necessary; lobster mac and cheese is enough. We finished with dessert - chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate layer cake, their signature butter cake, and cheesecake. Dare I say the chocolate covered strawberries were the best? The chocolate coating was more of a spread so it didn't fall off at first bite, and it came with whipped cream mmm. It might have been because the fruit was a repreive from the relatively heavy meal, but it was a standout for me. Though the butter and chocolate cakes were also delicious I'll call a spade a spade. Service was great - they were very attentive and consistenly made sure we were taken care of. Overall, I wouldn't say Mastro's was the best steakhouse I've been to, but they hold their own. Both were excellent, but the lobster roll was the clear standout and something I would absolutely order again. By the time the entrees arrived, it felt like we had sampled half the menu, but I still made room for the twin lobster tails. They were perfectly cooked, buttery, and worth every bite. To finish the evening, we shared Mastro's famous Butter Cake, which lived up to the hype and was the perfect ending to an incredible meal. For main entrées, we had an amazing special of lobster and scallop risotto, and Ribeye steaks, both Oscar-style and plain. Our side items were the jalapeño, gratin, potatoes, lobster, mac & cheese, brussels sprouts, and broccoli. The pace of service was perfect. We had plenty of time to enjoy the cocktails, appetizers, and dinner. The food came out extremely well seasoned, hot, and to everyone's liking. The general manager, Tim, took time to come by the table to make sure everything was going well and really put the icing on the cake by ensuring our entire experience lived up to the Cameron Mitchell brand. Truly, a night to remember
