Espresso Martini and Cosmopolitan
Heather D.

We love coming to Mastros to celebrate our birthdays, but this time was just a random night out to enjoy a nice dinner. Unfortunately this location does not have social hour, which has great deals on martinis. However, we still enjoyed the Cosmo and the Espresso Martini. We shared a wedge salad which the kitchen split in half for us. There was a very generous amount for both of us! We also shared an 8 oz filet which they cut into slices for us to also share. We ordered the steak rare and it came out perfect even with it continuing to cook on the hot plate. We added the garlic butter for the first time which was yummy but not needed. The creamed spinach is our favorite side dish to enjoy with the steak. We sat at the bar top here and had great service.

Mastro's is, without question, my favorite restaurant in DC. It delivers the perfect trifecta: great vibes, an incredible atmosphere, and exceptional customer service, all under one roof. The menu never locks you in. Whether I'm craving steak, branzino, lamb (Cajun seasoning is the only way to get it in my opinion), or you just cocktails, there's always something calling my name. The bar area is an experience in itself; the pianist sets an energy that's hard to match anywhere else in the city. What keeps me coming back, though, is the sense of familiarity. From the person who opens the door to the staff who bring your food and drinks, these are faces I know and trust. That consistency is rare, and Mastro's delivers it every time. And if you ever see the lemon blueberry butter cake on the seasonal menu, order it! No questions asked.

I'm a Yelp Elite reviewer. I don't write reviews like this lightly. But what happened here deserves to be documented. We walked in at 7:30 PM. We didn't leave until 10:30 PM. Not because we were enjoying ourselves. Because we spent the entire night chasing down our server, Elena. It started early. My friend, a Native American attorney, asked a question about the menu. Elena didn't answer her. She turned to me and asked me to explain the menu item to her. A grown, accomplished woman sitting right in front of her. That's when we realized what was happening. She assumed my friend didn't speak English because she's an older brown woman. That's not a miscommunication. That's a assumption rooted in bias. It set the tone for the entire night. We ordered Wagyu steaks. Expensive ones. Two of us ordered medium rare. One ordered medium well. We received the opposite of everything. No one came to check on us. We had to physically hunt Elena down to flag the problem. Management eventually agreed the steaks were wrong, but only replaced one at first. We had to flag him down again for the second. We told Elena at the start that food and alcohol needed to be on separate checks for business expense purposes. Simple request. She brought one combined bill. Then when she finally separated it, the comped drink that appeared on the first bill was suddenly back on the alcohol check. When we questioned it calmly and asked for the manager, she got an attitude, walked away, and stood with other staff pointing at our table. We asked for the manager twice. He never came. She grabbed my card in a rush without taking the other person's card for the separate alcohol bill. More confusion. More waiting. The food, when cooked correctly, was fine. But no steak is worth three hours of being ignored, talked about by staff, and treated like we were the problem. Elena made it clear from the first interaction that she had already decided what kind of table we were. That's not a service failure. That's a character failure. I'll be calling management tomorrow as well. This needs to be addressed.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted immediately. The ambulance was very dim, singer on the piano, it felt like a romantic night out. The service was impeccable the server came to assist us immediately and checked on us regularly. The steak and sides we ordered were absolutely amazing. I can't even explain how delicious the steak was it was cooked to perfection. I have nothing negative to say.

We went on a Friday night with family and had a reservation for 6pm. It was relatively quiet when we arrived, with most tables still empty, which made for a nice, relaxed atmosphere. Our server, LK, was amazing--attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. We started with the Blue Point Oysters, which were fresh and flavorful. For my entrée, I had the 8oz Filet Oscar Style, and it was absolutely delicious--cooked to perfection and so tender. We shared garlic mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts on the side, both of which were excellent. To finish off the meal, I had the warm butter cake for dessert, and it was incredible--rich, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I even took some home and can't wait to enjoy the leftovers today! Overall, a fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

This is my ultimate favorite steakhouse! I will find any reason to keep returning. The staff is efficient, kind, and well knowledgeable about the menu. The bartenders are skilled and the cocktails are great. You can buy a bottle of wine, as well as request cocktails. My Favorite items are the ribeye steak, the Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes, sautéed sea scallops (appetizer), and the butter cake!! The ambiance is quiet, low lighting and relaxing. Sometimes there is a musician singing, which I truly enjoy!

Massive shrimp, good cocktail sauce and powerful horseradish.

Went to Mastros for a company party of sorts. It was a lovely evening with a delicious, robust meal. A few things were just a little off but otherwise a great time had by all. We led off with calamari and some other appetizers. I felt like these were the only real areas for improvement. The calamari was fine but lacked flavor on its own. This was the same with the beef carpaccio. They both just needed something more. The shrimp presented in dry ice were the largest I'd seen and flavorful and the cocktail sauce quite good. The accompanying ground horseradish was yummy and potent. The bread assortment was also quite good with the pretzel loads particularly tasty. I also had a wedge salad, which actually wasn't a wedge but it tasted quite good. Especially the blue cheese and bacon. Might have been a bit better with a little blue cheese dressing too. I ordered a filet at 8 oz and medium rare with wagyu butter. I also had the DAOU Cabernet arrive with the steak. We had a variety of sides with mashed potatoes, lobster mashed potatoes - which I'm generally opposed to because it usually lacks lobster. This actually has a good bit of lobster but it felt a little overdone. We also got some asparagus and broccolini. They were fine but ordinary. The steak was perfectly cooked temperature-wise. I usually prefer a ribeye but I wasn't going to tackle a 22 bone-in cut. I wish there was a smaller option. The wagyu butter sadly melted completely on the scalding platter. It tasted great. I wish I had salt later and a fellow diner agreed. We were headed towards full already when the butter cakes arrived with ice cream and whipped cream. The butter cake was delicious and some complimentary chocolate layer cakes were fine for coworkers celebrating milestones. I feel the butter cake was just short of another local steakhouse but it was a close, close race. Service throughout was attentive, quick and professional. It was as one would expect from a classic steakhouse. We also appreciated the live singer/pianist in the bar. I don't think my peers had any complaints. It was a very good evening and dinner. My tiny concerns were marginal but separated it from some of the better/best steakhouse dinners I've had. A 4.7 score rounds to a 5.

This is my first time back in 3 years. And everything was spectacular. Atmosphere so cozy and romantic. Dark lighting. Music in the background. Great staff. Friendly bartenders. Food amazing. Got Mastros salad. It has shrimp on it. Very delicious. Also wedge salad. Great. But it comes already cut up. Mac and cheese was sooo good. Beef carpaccio huge place with side salad. I really liked it. Drinks on point. Will return. They offer valet parking and bar has live piano with singer. Check out the menu and give it a go.

This was probably thee best steakhouse I've been too. Our server Colin was attentive, informative and uber friendly. The steak was perfect and if I could have the oysters shipped, I'd eat them over a month. Pittsburgh needs a Mastro's. I will travel just to go back to this place. We were there on a Sunday and the noise level was not horrible but it was enough that you could not hear the singer that was doing light jazz/music. All and all 10/10

Mastro's never disappoints. It's my favorite steak house in DC. As soon as I walked in I was greeted my the hostess who was very friendly. I arrived a little early so the table wasn't ready yet but it did not take long for us to be seated. The ambiance was nice as always. They offered entertainment which included a singer on the piano which was delightful. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. She made sure that we had everything we needed. I like Mastros because their service is impeccable. They make sure that our glasses are always full and they serve us family style. I ordered the bone in filet with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned and scorching hot. The potatoes and spinach were delicious as well. It was a great experience. I 100% recommend.

My first review of 2025, let's go! 2024 was a wonderful YELP year! To end the year perfectly my King picked Mastro's for our final date night of the year! He would pick the BEST steakhouse in D.C. Arguably one might say there are other great steakhouses in D.C. but Mastro's to me is most definitely one of the top steakhouses in D.C. Ambiance is romantic with the dimly lit lights, white linen covered tables. There is live entertainment by the bar. Love it when I come in and there is music; I'll change my table reservation to a bar setting for that alone. For NYE they had the restaurant decorated in balloons! So pretty! Service is always stellar for me! Love that waiters work together. What's not to love! This has always been a great date night place for me, even since my first review many years ago. Final Meal of 2024 with my perfect partner! This girl is LUCKY! Let's get into it! Appetizer: Oysters Rockefeller - Probably one of the best I've had. His: 24oz Porterhouse- He asked for it Blackened it was perfect! PERFECT! OMG. Lobster Mac and Cheese - Perfect as Always Mine: Mastros House Salad - Perfect as Always (Wish I would have asked for no beans.) 8oz Filet - Perfect as Always So wanted butter cake but this girl was FULL! Cheers and Happy New Year - May 2025 be amazing for all of you. SYOY

Lemon Drop

It was our birthday so we wanted to splurge a bit. PARKING: I took an Uber, but my friend did valet. She said it was worth it as parking garages are about the same price. SERVICE: The hosts were friendly and they took very good care of us. Our waiter was nice though seemed to look a bit tired. I had no complaints with service. AMBIANCE: Very beautiful restaurant but the music was... Interesting. Good music just seemed very random for the setting. FOOD: LEMON DROP: One of their bestsellers. I love lemon drops in general and this did not disappoint. Loved the lively presentation. BREAD: I love bread but I'm very simple with it. A nice simple fluffy roll with soft butter and I'm happy. They have a variety, including one with nuts and fruit. If I was to come back, definitely specifying the one I would like. LOBSTER MASHED POTATOES: Delicious and fair amount of lobster and butter. Probably my favorite item out of what I had. 22 oz RIBEYE: I could have used a bit more seasoning on the ribeye. I initially asked for Wagyu butter but, it had much bolder almost overpowering taste for my liking so I opted not to use it. BUTTER CAKE: The butter cake was heavenly. It wasn't overly sweet, the sauce complimented it well and it was well portioned. OVERALL: The service was great and we enjoyed what we had but I'm not sure if I'd return on my own. I feel I can recall slightly better dishes at other locations that would merit a repeat visit.

Mastro's Steakhouse Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Mastro's Steakhouse

Does Mastros offer parking or valet services?

Yes, they have valet right in front !

Do they have live music on Friday night?

Most nights they have live music.

Can you place a takeout order over the phone?

How is the outdoor dining?

No. It's just inside

Are they child friendly?

No.

Do you need reservations?

Not required but I'd suggest it unless you want to eat in the bar.

Does this go by plate or by person? Also how much for an average night?

Mastro's can be quite expensive. It's a la carte style so you order your protein (meat, seafood or poultry) and your sides seperate. Your protein can go from $30- $200 and the sides are $13- $30. If you get a large steak you could split it and each…

Do they have happy hour specials?

Unfortunately, No!

The Crab Bisque was creamy, comforting, and packed with real crab flavor without being overly heavy. Each of these sorts of restaurants has a place in the spectrum. Our waiter - Keith or Kevin - I'm so sorry but I cannot remember his name - was GREAT! Funny, good at his job, great personality and helpful. He started out with a corny, but cute, joke and he kept getting better all night. The manager too was quite good, professional and friendly. What a great staff! The food is good. I could talk about the lobster bisque (a bit on the strong side) or the flounder (a bit on the salty side). The three cocktails we tried--the frose, le jardin, and the clouseau--were all stunners. And of course the bread deserves another special mention, *especially* the room temperature butter. Thank you for not serving hard as hell butter! We shared the warm shrimp salad to start, and for $31, we were expecting more than a few avocado slices and 4 shrimp on it, but c'est la vie. The dressing was incredible, and the greens were crunchy. That's actually the only dish of the night that we thought was unfairly overpriced. One of us ordered the burger and the other got the rabbit pappardelle--you've got to get rabbit when you see it on a menu, which isn't often enough! There was a good amount of super tender meat and the pasta was perfectly al dente, all in a lightly stunning sauce. Chef's kiss. The burger was, no surprise, another triumph. There was juicy meat, bun integrity, and all the right accouterment notes. The fries are standard. Our daughter got their mac-n-cheese, which is probably just the gratin dish renamed. It was OK. We kind of got out of control for dessert and ordered the pot de creme, the cookie dough ice cream, and the profiteroles. Honestly, these were all good, but nothing that stood out as exemplary as with the savory stuff. Our only major complaint was the service. It was really spotty and while there was a very, very long gap in between when we got our water and then put in our drinks, but our mains came out almost directly after the salad. And the guy was just not very hospitable. Not necessarily a "bad" experience...it just could have been a lot better. Four stars, and we have already declared that we will be back again to "The Dip" because there is so much else on the menu that we want to try.

The crab was spiced nicely, though. One of our fave dishes was recommended by the server -- the tilefish kinilaw, a ceviche-adjacent blend of chopped light white fish, red onion, cucumber, mango (I think), & chives blended in coconut broth. YUM! It was served in a dish with lettuce cups, an interesting vessel for the fish-yumminess. We also shared a beet & berry salad with crunchy, candied pecans with a yogurt dressing. Yum! It took an HOUR for us to get our food. When it came my lamb chops definitely did not look like they were worth $60; they were extremely small and did not have a lot of meat on them. My best friend said her curry was fine, but it was nothing special. Our waiter was nice, but we often found ourselves trying to look for him and waiting for him to return to our table. The manager originally told us we could have our drinks free (a Shirley temple and a virgin mojito). We had to advocate for ourselves and ask for at least an appetizer off because we had waited an hour for our food. Overall, this place is nice for aesthetics but not for food quality and quantity. My best friend also asked for her food to be boxed and never received the boxed food. We waited so long to get our servers attention throughout the night, so we decided to just leave without the boxed food.
