We went to the Capital Grille for a celebratory dinner. The waiter was fantastic. He was friendly and helpful without being over the top. The atmosphere is fancy. It feels like where the diplomats and business people of DC go to dine. The menu reflects that, and it's pricy but that's expected. We enjoyed the calamari and some prawns as a starter. Best Steak Ever! Stopped here with the wife to have dinner on our last night in the DC Metro area. We shared the Ribeye steak and mashed potatoes. This may have been the best steak I have ever had, period! Steak was cooked just right and seasoned to perfection! It had just enough marbeling to make it tender and juicy. Hubs and I went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon to get an in person vibe for this location. Talking to Erin was easy and she was supportive, professional and knowledgeable on what I wanted to accomplish for my promotion dinner. I had a group dining experience at the Chicago location in 2022 and they had a lasting impression on me. I felt that my family would enjoy that same level if I had my dinner here. There are options to have a pre-fixe menu or you can allow your guests to order from the standard menu. TCG has options for those with food restrictions and the pickiest of eaters. For the lunch and dinner dining, I enjoyed my food very much. The prices and quality of the food were appropriate and the staff were as responsive as we needed them to be. Handling a group of 30 can be a tasks for some eateries. Not here, they were pros and made corrections quickly without making things awkward for anyone. There were one or two people in my group that had a steak cooked more than they desired but my friends and family said that they now have TCG on their radar for their own personal dining options. If you are having a business meeting, there are rooms available that can seat up to 20 people. This location has two rooms but as my numbers increased for those attending my dinner party, it was best to do it in the main dining room. BLUF: Excellent food and service with a parking garage near by. My husband and I had dinner at The Capital Grille on a quiet Sunday night and it was wonderful! We started at the bar which only had one bar tender who was totally hustling and trying to make up for what seemed like a staffing shortage. After staring down the huge glass jar of pineapples soaked in vodka, my husband decided to try the pineapple martini which was basically just vodka infused with pineapple juice. Since the taxidermized buffalo was staring me down I had a Kentucky mule with Buffalo Trace bourbon. After leisurely drinks we adjourned to the dining room where we loved our filets, mushrooms, potatoes, bread and coconut cream pie but the steaks were the highlight. They were super tender, slightly crusty on the outside perfectly cooked to our desired temperatures. The service was perfect including the host, bartender and our server. We visited during Government shutdown and it was quiet in town. We were able to get a parking spot right on 6th Street. (Capital Grille is on the corner of Pennsylvania Ave NW and 6th St.). My husband got the Kansas City steak, it was medium rare and to be honest it was okay. It was not worth the price I would skip the steaks unless you don't care about money and just want a steak. If you go to a steakhouse and don't get a steak, were you ever really there? These are the mysteries of Yelp. On this day the spouse and I were checking out a few places to host an event. One option was The Capital Grille (TGC). The staff were very nice and answered all of our questions by showing us the various setups they can provide for the various number of guests along with menu options. Very nice staff and at no time did it seem like an upsell of trying to push certain unneeded options on us. Since we were there why not have lunch. It was a Saturday and surprisingly very empty there. Speaking with one of the managers, she mentioned that Monday through Wednesday was the busiest times due to its proximity to the US Capitol. Whenever I see calamari on the menu it is a must for me to try. I have to say fried calamari is a very hard thing to mess up and with this being TGC you have some expectations. The expectations were met. I am not the biggest fan of banana peppers coming with my calamari but at times it works. Glad this was one of those times. The menu is a bit scaled down especially for lunch time. Here is where the dilemma came to me. I wanted to try their steak, but I had it the night before and I am a burger connoisseur. The burgers here I believe are the same as at Capital Burger since they are owned by the same organization. Capital Burger gets great reviews, and I went with the burger (medium rare) with duck fat fries. The hype is real. The burger was cooked at a perfect medium rare with just the right amount of pink. Fries came out very hot. I was not disappointed by my choice as I see myself coming back here anyway soon. I have to say that wanting to go back to a place in the DMV with so many options here says plenty. Prices are very reasonable, and the service is great. Located within a 3-5-minute walk of the Archives-Navy memorial metro stop this is a great place to checkout. read more

My fiancé brought me here for a belated birthday celebration and completely surprised me with my ring! As we were seated, I excitedly told our waiter.... whose name, I believe, was David (forgive me if I'm mistaken; he was an absolute gem)--that I couldn't wait to have the coconut cream pie. After going over the menu with him, we placed our orders. When he returned, he walked right into the moment my fiancé was opening the ring box, and I was already in tears lol! I was greeted warmly when I walked in and sat at the bar until my party arrived. Jared was our server and was amazing. A friend's bone in strip was medium well and not medium. The flavor and presentation were great though. Everything was bland unfortunately. We also ordered 3 desserts which were good, and 6 drinks (don't judge). We knew the bill would be high but we paid around $500 including the tip. This was amazing. Admittedly not someplace I can afford to frequent but as a special event celebrating my daughter's birthday and my upcoming wedding it was the perfect destination. Started with the Grand Plateau which had enough seafood in it to be a full dinner for two but equally filling as an appetizer for four. Two of us had scallops, one NY Strip and I had the filet mignon (strip was Kona crusted, my filet was with bearnaise. All were excellent. They even did a special happy birthday played dessert for my daughter. With a bottle of wine we were at almost $700 without the tip. But totally worth it. I usually start off with a Caesar salad and it was good I had the wagyu filet mignon with one of their optional toppings, I forgot what it was called but it had crab meat in it! Ok, so the steak really did not need the topping although it was delish. That steak was (mwah, chef's kiss), cooked to perfection and just melts into every nook and cranny in your oral cavity . Love the dark, sultry environment of this restaurant. A great way to escape DC's steamy tropical heat. They do steak... the way that other restaurant should wake up and take notice of. What's not to like here? The lobster bisque is to die for, so good that I had naughty dreams about swimming in a pool of it. Few restaurants get a Caesar Salad right: they do. The subtle flavors will do a mind-meld with your brain and stick to it. Had salads on the hotter, more humid days so that I wouldn't fall asleep during lectures. Absolutely superlative. However the bar area is come first serve. As an individual who tends to dine solo this establishment is welcoming. I appreciate that the staff from the host, waiters, bartenders, ect. engage me in respectful conversation. At times as a solo individual I tend to be overlooked at places versus an individual who appears with an entourage. Although I have over the years have had other items on their menu I tend to gravitate towards the chop salad. Having had chop salad at different restaurants around the country their chop salad is the absolute best. The lettuce is always at a crisp and the ingredients are fresh with a dressing to the side. To drink a must have for me is water and my decaf americano following my meals. This is one the few places where I have entertained a glass of wine or two. The place has an extensive list of wines and has access to wine that may not be listed. Furthermore The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue tends to attract some the individuals you may see on C-Span for you political junkies and historians. However on my latest visit people were approaching me and starting conversations, which led to the picture with the U.S. Senator. Overall The Capital Grille on Pennsylvania Avenue is definitely a place over the years that has demonstrated consistency and excellency in fine dining. Great location, easy to drop in or make reservations online. I was able to get a spot at the bar the evening I visited, without a prior reservation. The bar has comfy bar chairs and a nice ambiance. The bar tenders are seasoned professionals who make great drinks and wine recommendations. I actually had calamari and their famous Caesar salad. The salad was perfect! The right about of dressing/cheese ratio and the calamari was flash fried and not overcooked, spicy twist and very delicious! After the appetizers and more wine, I was too full to have one of their epic steaks. I have tried the steak menu on other visits which are always cooked to perfection with one of the best Bernaise sauces for a steak house chain.
