This is easily the worst buffet I have ever been to. Most of the food is usually cold or lukewarm, the chicken is greasy, and much of it seems like it's been sitting out for a couple of days. They say they close at 8:30 pm, but I have been there several times at 7:30 pm and they start mopping the floors so you are smelling chemicals while you're trying to eat. It is seldom that I defer to the overall rating of a business on Yelp, but this is one of those times. Even with the lower number of reviews, it just seems extreme. So here's my suggestion; read my review and any/all of the others, but take the time and try Bobby's for yourself. I had an amazing experience, which I'm getting to, and thoroughly enjoyed the food. I will start by mentioning that this place was recommended to me by someone who was born and raised in Augusta. They stated more than once that this was the best spot for barbecue in the area. And after 15 years, I finally listened to them. I had had a barbecue hankering for over a week so I knew either I would decide on a spot and go or continue in this daily misery for perpetuity. Also, I was very hungry. And that's when Bobby's came to mind. New (to me), barbecue, and a buffet. This could either be a meal I wouldn't forget or one I wish I could. The location isn't that far from any point in the CSRA so don't let that be a hesitation. And the parking lot is huge. That's due in part to them having a second building solely as an event space (something I will be sure to remember). The restaurant (inside and out) feels like a giant cabin. And the team here is just as warm and welcoming. Now I don't know if they have other options besides the buffet (I had a singular focus), but I will mention that you can add ribs to the buffet (I will save that for another visit). Another marker that it was going to be delicious was the loaf of white bread at the front of the line. Actually two. More country cooking sides than your grandma on Thanksgiving, with pulled pork, chopped pork, and fried chicken to eat on. Everything that I had (which was everything on the buffet) was delicious. And when I reached my lunch capacity, I turned my eyes to dessert (because there's always room for dessert). They have a ice cream machine (vanilla, chocolate, and swirl) and a giant pan of banana pudding! You already know what I went for...twice. For the first time since COVID, I got to enjoy a buffet. Met up w/a couple of friends who recommended this place and it was very satisfying. I was skeptical after reading the reviews but some people are just hard to please and they won't ever be happy no matter what. Our server(Cathy) was sweet and attentive and there were plenty of food options. You can't beat the price $10 for lunch. While the chopped and pulled pork was kinda bland, the sauce made up for that. The worst food I have had in a long time. Food was cold and probably had been sitting at the buffet since lunch. It was hardly eatable and cold. We also had to ask 3 times for our drinks that they would not allow us to get ourselves. The owners (I think) were behind the cash register sitting in chairs with the man asleep facing us in the dining area. It was an all around bad bad experience. We wanted to support a local business in our travels of the south between Aiken and Augusta. Everything is served on Styrofoam and plastic utensils. There is one type of bbq sauce available which was ok with a lot of mustard content. The pork ribs were over cooked and dry. The chicken had no seasoning along with all of the sides. I think the best part was the sweet tea. Oh the corn on the cob was cooked just right. Everything else was mediocre. Thankfully it cost less than $10 pp. so not a total waste of money. Me and my family live in Buford Ga where bbq is almost none extincted they dont cook it right and dont know what skins are. So we have to drive 4hrs to Bobby's bar b q just to have the most greatest tasting bbq and hushpuppy and oh yes the skins we love em. It makes our trip rewarding when we get there. Locals know about it, so should you! Bobby's BBQ has in my opinion the finest BBQ I have ever eaten. It is the BBQ by which I compare all BBQ. I am yet to find anything that even COMPARES let alone is better. This is an all-you-can-eat style restaurant with a 2 row buffet. Sides include delicious hush puppies, homemade macaroni and cheese, corn, rice, hash, sweet and dill pickles, coleslaw, baked beans, there may be more, but I never get that far! The restaurant is family owned. On a good day, Bobby may even come sit with you for a while and talk! The sauce is a combination sauce like nothing I've ever tasted. Its not mustard ketchup or vinegar based, its totally unique. If you want a seat and some of the Macaroni before it runs out, come in groups and come early! read more

So our next stop along the bbq trail was a stop at Bobby's Bar-B-Q. The building is large, and clearly they do good business. The lady at the desk was very friendly. However, the place has the overall feel to a rest stop on I-95. It has weird keychain racks with those keychains that have your name on them, you can buy postcards, etc. There is a large buffet, offering a number of standard bbq sides, all of which looked good. Not the worst BBQ I've ever had, but pretty close. I went to Bobby's back in the 2000 timeframe a few times because a group I was a member of met there. I recall not being impressed. I am a huge BBQ fan, this was not it. I went back today, again with a group. If anything, it was worse than I remember. I had pulled pork, green beans, hash and rice, potato salad, and a couple of hush puppies. None of it was really worth eating and certainly not worth spending money on. I would not eat here if it were the only BBQ in a 200 mile radius. Pulled pork: not sure how they cook it, but it was not on wood unless it was heavily subsidized with gas or electric and it was not cooked as long as it should have been (and you can make decent pulled pork with gas or electric). It was pulled poorly, not really a big deal, but pulled pork should not require a knife for anything. Actually, not enough fat, either. But, the killer was the sauce, a sickly sweet mustard sauce. Now, mustard sauce is a midlands South Carolina thing from German settlers. Not may favorite BBQ sauce, but I don't mind it at all if done well. This was far too sweet. Mustard sauce can vary like vinegar and ketchup based sauces, but this was the mustard equivalent of sickly sweet Kansas City BBQ sauce. Try some vinegar for goodness sake. It is prepared with the sauce, so no option for opting out (the best pulled pork requires no sauce). Rice and hash: Pretty standard stuff, not horrible and not terrible. Rice sticky enough for me. Hash did not have liver (I don't like liver in hash, but it is traditional and I will never hold t,hat against a restaurant in a review. The hash could have been two or three star, but it was just meh. Green beans: out of a can and cooked with fatback. I love fatback, but not canned beans. I can do this at home in a couple of minutes. Potato salad: Really bad, institutional quality bulk potato salad. I can buy better at the grocery store deli. Hush puppies: Not bad, standard, but cooked decently I will never go back unless circumstances dictate. I hate it when I have to give a bad review to a local place, but they were doing a great business, so they are doing fine. read more

We have been on a few occasions and I agree with some of the reviews, it has definitely gone downhill. Today the chicken looked extremely dry so did not bother getting any, a lot of the vegetables looked like they were simply reheated from the day before. If you can't have salt, this is not the place for you! SALTY!!!! The BBQ is fair, kind of like the pre-cooked stuff at the grocery and the sauce is not that great, I wish I would have taken some of my husbands. I went to Bobby's for a celebratory lunch. I was sorely disappointed. This is definitely the worst of the major BBQ places in Aiken County (the others being Carolina BBQ and Duke's). The pork was flavorless, the hash was awful, and there weren't a ton of options for sides (though I did like the sides that I had). The key factor here was the sauce. If you're going to do BBQ in SC, you've got to perfect that mustard-based BBQ sauce. Bobby's has a regular mustard-based sauce and a pepper mustard-based sauce. Both were runny and dull. Went here with a large group of people the other day. The restaurant was given notice of the large party. There was also another group that had a reserved area, and had also given notice they would've coming. Still, the restaurant ran out of several items (even bread, so no sandwiches) Also, they ran out of desert. They didn't advise of any shortages when ordering and paying prior to seating. Stumbled upon this place while in Aiken. The thought of BBQ made my mouth water. Inside the atmosphere reminded me of a saloon that you see in old western movies. There was an old lady on the piano playing old favorites like Amazing Grace and Down By The Bay. We ordered the Buffett and got a 10% military discount. Nothing was labeled at the Buffet so I hope you passed BBQ Food 101. I tried the ribs, the BBQ, the mac n cheese, the baked beans, the hush puppies (soooo good!), the candied yams and baked chicken. I use to work in Augusta so I would stop on my way home to Aiken. I always order take out and want to say that the portions are so generous I can make 2 meals out of one dinner! 5 stars! My family has been going to Bobbys for YEARS. Best BBQ in our opinion. We have spent so many birthdays and special occasions at this place. Love the atmosphere. Love the gift shop. Love the private rooms you can rent for a small price. The Horse Creek Banquet Hall is beautiful and spacious. Bobby and Candy are so sweet and helpful. They are catering our wedding this year and catered my brother in laws wedding last year. Everyone had great things to say about the food. My family and I love Bobby's . We have been coming here for years. First when Mr. Bobby ran it and now that his son and daughter in law run it. The food has changed a little but it is still the same friendly atmosphere and great southern comfort food. My husband's favorite is the Fried chicken and homestyle veggies . We are brand new in town so we thought we would try local instead of driving into Augusta on a Friday night. We walked in the door the cashier was with 1 customer no one in line. So we we stepped to the side to be seated. 2 more employees ( maybe servers came up and was chit chatting with the waitress no one acknowledged us at all. I tried to make eye contact and nothing. So we kept standing I was beginning to think maybe we seat ourselves. 4 to 5 mins went by no acknowledgment. Another male employee enters the front door walks around us carrying some sort of empty container ( looks like a delivery container) no hi, no hey chatty Cathys can you help these customers. By this time Im getting pretty upset I give the employees one more look NOTHING in return. But it seems the diners know what to do because they're all eating and we seem to be the dinner entertainment because all eyes are on Us. I tell my husband let's go as we turn to walk out the door still not a word. So to the servers who ignored us Im a big tipper, I have lots of family and friends who will visit and be big tippers that Im searching out great local places to take them. The food isn't very good, but there's lots of it. Ribs aren't really barbecued - no smoky or grilled flavor at all. Lots of things tasted like they hadn't been salted at all. The food is a lot cheaper than other barbecue places, but it tastes cheaper, too. Service was very good. That's the only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1.
