I have been vacationing in Clearwater and a happy Bobby's customer since 2001....I just visited this place for the first time since 2018, longer than I would have liked. I made reservations for 7:00 - only for NO ONE to be there! Turns out they are only open on Friday's and Saturday nights now from 5:00 until 8:30 even! Super short hours. To say I was shocked that we were the only table at the restaurant the entire evening is an understatement. Absolutely not a single other table was there. We questioned whether or not the place was going out of business. Our sever was friendly and stuck to the script when we asked a couple different times if this was normal.... Food tasted extremely mediocre for the price. Not the same menu they used to have - either in what is offered or in the physical menu itself. Just a printed off piece of paper - again, I was stunned. Ambiance was absolutely zero - Lady Gaga blasted from the patio music, with the once beloved striped canvas totally missing from the patio atmosphere. The seats and tables were even falling apart. I understand there was a pandemic and hurricane Helene prior to our visit, but wow is it sad to see this place gone so downhill - and charging you top dollar for it. read more

A Classic Bobby's Bistro sits behind its more famous sire, Heilman's Beachcomber. Heilman's has been there for generations and was always the habitue of older seniors. When Bobby's Bistro opened it seemed to have a (slightly) younger vibe. Today there seems to be no difference between Heilman's and Bobby's. The menus are exactly the same. Bobby's is clean and comfortable and service is professional. Food prices are high-ish. Bar and wine prices are quite reasonable. This is one of the few places that still have complimentary bread service--much appreciated. I had the scallop appetizer and it was very good. Next was a nice side salad that was included with the entrée. My main dish was their deservedly famous fried chicken. It was a half chicken in 4 pieces with a thin and delicious crust and not greasy. This is the fried chicken that every other restaurant should aspire to. It came with very good (not over-cooked) green beans and perfect mashed potatoes and gravy. Bobby's (and Heilman's) are classics. They might not be modern and flashy and the patrons skew old, but these restaurants know how to do everything right. read more

What a walk down memory lane this is!!! We haven't been to Bobby's Bistro, or its more upscale sister restaurant the Beachcomber in years. Twenty years ago, these two restaurants were the absolute "It" place, the best in Tampa. Amazingly, the decor is exactly the same as 20 years ago but somehow doesn't look dated at all. The food was fantastic (have lived in Atlanta for a while, where celebrity chefs and amazing dining is plentiful. Bobby's holds up). It's not a huge menu and the restaurant was quiet on a week night. But this little Bistro is a far cry from the touristy vibe that has (sadly IMO) become Clearwater beach. The prices were not bad given the incredible quality of the food, wine and service. The chicken piccata was perfection! Even the bread and olive oil we had with a generous pour of wine was delicious. And I wanted to swim in the sauce of the sherry shrimp appetizer!! DO NOT MISS the potato! The service is personable and attentive. Bobby's is a hidden treasure that exceeded our memory from our last visit years ago. You won't be disappointed. If you are in Clearwater and want something that's a bit upscale and stands out from the touristv spots (and is reasonably priced, unlike a ridiculously expensive meal we had a the Opal Sands hotel), definitely have dinner at Bobby's. My husband and I decided to come in because we enjoy a nice glass of good wine. We were pleasantly surprised by the great menu for their food offerings, as well. I would have given this a five star rating, however, the music playing loudly over the speakers for our romantic, candlelit dinner ruined everything. Whoever picked honky-tonk and club music for such a beautiful establishment should be fired. We were told the music is set and cannot be changed. It would be better to just turn it off altogether in this case. Regardless, our food was exceptional and our service was outstanding. The 2 things I liked about this place was the outside patio and the bread basket. Otherwise, it was a poor experience for me. Had the California Pear Salad, which was fine but nothing special. Tried the Best Burger with two types of cheese - borsin (typically a very mild garlic cheese) and cheddar. This was the worst burger I ever tasted. I'd describe it like a pine tree. I mentioned to the waiter that it wasn't good and he told me the chef thought it was a bad combination of cheese flavors. First, neither cheeses should of tasted like a Christmas Tree. Second, if the chef thought it was a poor selection- why not TELL me before cooking it. Third, what a poor response by the server when I told him my meal was not good. We came here on our vacation in Clearwater and came in here not knowing what to expect. My parents and I got the filet (we were in the mood for steak) and it was easily one of the best filets I've ever had! The red burgundy wine sauce on it was fantastic. We also got a side of the vegetables for that day which was green beans and mushrooms in a creamy mushroom sauce and it was SO DELICIOUS!! I could've eaten the whole plate of them and lastly my dad got the Boston cream pie and i got the apple strudel which were also fantastic. A group of us ate dinner one evening. I ordered the salmon and it was cooked perfectly! It was tender, succulent, mouth wateringly delicious! I skipped dessert as I am trying to cut way back on my sugar intake. Service was very good - especially in light of all of the groups in the restaurant. We told Brandi, our attentive waiter, we'd like to do dinner tapas style, one course at a time, and we'd be splitting everything. No problem. We started with the scallops appetizer and there were three plump and fresh sautéed scallops in a balsamic reduction. Excellent. That was followed by the California Pear , Pecan , And Pepper Montrachet salad which was also very good. Then we split a bowl of Mon Sheri 's French Onion Soup In the traditional crock. Came here during my last night in Clearwater based off a recommendation from the local town folks and I loved it! Tucked behind the Beachcomber, this sister restaurant is more affordable and had the perfect date night feel that provided us for a great evening. From there on the mood was set and the rest of the night was great. We sat in the intimate dining space devouring homemade bread, sipping on champagne, and having good convo as we waited for our food right behind us in the open kitchen. Craving a burger, I ordered one and it was pretty massive. Nothing spectacular but it certainly got the job done. My date ordered a gourmet mediterranean pizza which came with artichoke hearts, capers, fresh basil, tomato, romano pecorino, and mozzarella and what I enjoyed about it was that it wasn't over filling because it came on a light thin crust. Thats about it, did I mention the prices were great? Very affordable. Next time you are in the Clearwater area and want to have a nice dinner, I recommend Bobby's Bistro and Wine Bar for some good eats or as they call it; a light approach to the consumption and enjoyment and good foods and wine. read more

We had what I wound say was just a wonderful meal tonight at my favorite restaurant in Clearwater Beach. And we realize that we are in a pandemic and that there are rules. We started our evening out in the bar alone without anybody else being seated. Eventually several other tables were seated. We were finishing a great meal and having a little desert when a person came in and start barking orders to us to move because we were sat to close to the next table of people. Now I don't have a problem with being moved, especially in these times but I do take issues with the attitude the self described "owner" displayed towards us. She was rude to us and her staff. In the end we had a great meal and the staff was wonderful but the "owner" of this fine restaurant left a very bad taste in our mouths. read more

EXCELLENT food, service and atmosphere!!! I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience here! Fresh and tasty bread to start and appetizers of scallops in balsamic sauce, flatbread pizza and shrimp cocktail, made great starters before the entrees. The special was coconut crusted sea bass with a orange reduction sauce over asparagus, that was to die for! The filet was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth and the ribs were amazing!! Topped this all off with a variety of tasty desserts, to include a brownie sundae and coconut cream pie. I like wine. And I like food. And I like it when wine and food are paired well. I like it when wait staff are knowledgeable about wine and food. More could be done by management to hire or train staff about wine when Wine Bar forms part of the moniker. I like Bobby's but on reflection I think I like the idea of Bobby's more. It's a great location and it has valet parking. A huge plus being so close to the beach. Inside it's low dim lighting and smaller rooms, along the lines of a traditional steakhouse. There's also an area that's outdoor but with the indoor decor and the same real tables, linen and service. On entry there is a small area dedicated to the bar. A few counter height tables and chairs and Chuck, the friendly, knowledgeable professional barkeep. One can opt to eat there. It's cozy. My guest ordered the pork chop which is like a double cut but not. Grilled and juicy. That's all it comes with. All sides are a la carte. My meal was the rib appetizer and a side of the cauliflower purée. Ribs were super tender and the purée was well seasoned. What failed was the wine-or more accurately the server and the wine. The wine list is the length of my arm, single spaced, double sided, and what seems to be a 1 point font. Make sure you have your spectacles in hand to read it. The type is small and the lighting is low. Our server, Nathan, was asked to suggest a bottle of cab sav in the $45-$58 range. He did. Then returned some time later to say that the one he'd suggested was a white something. Again he was asked to suggest 3 wines that would pair with our meal. Floundering somewhat I asked to see the wine cellar which was denied. He did return with 3 bottles and a selection was made and it was drank. But nothing to write home about. Even as this reviewer types this all I can recall is it was a 2010 or '11 Wilson Something. Some places seem to not clear used plates and silverware fast enough. But here hold on to your stuff. Turn your head for a moment and your side plate will be whisked away. So will cutlery. A nice touch but not when I'm half way through a mouthful of recently dipped bread. Replacement side plates and cutlery needed to be requested twice. The dress code is clean beach casual (not exactly sure if that's a style). Collared T-shirt's, shorts and flip flops is not uncommon for men. Women seem to dress for "there's going to be air conditioning". I get it. Shorts, dresses, sandals, straw hats. Pretty much anything goes. The food is good, the wine list extensive. It's clean and cozy and it has ambiance. It has everything I like and I should like it more. But I just didn't. It's a good 3.75 star rating. It comes back to the wine. read more

We were in a family of four and ordered the kids menu while the adults got appetizer and mains with sides. The mains were good but not absolutely great (as I was expecting after reading the reviews). The filet was burnt and laying on a bed with garlic (WHY! WHY! WHY!). This destroyed the entire experience. We ordered the veggies and the potatoes au gratin. The potatoes were absolutely outstanding. The french onion soup was good, nothing spectacular. It wasn't crowded on a Wednesday night and the two guys in the open kitchen were mostly playing on their phones. The bartender was very friendly though, so I decided to hang around. What a fantastic restaurant! We've been coming to Clearwater Beach for years and this is our first time here. The food is so delicious and the atmosphere is very quaint and cozy. We sat in the back that feels like being in a wine cellar. You can even adjust your lighting at your table yourselves with the dimmers. The food was very tasty beginning with the hot bread and dipping oil delivered to the table. We started with the French onion soup which was so fresh and tasty. While in Clearwater, my husband and I were looking for a nice place to eat dinner for his birthday. We were recommended to Bobby's by an older bartender at our resort and decided to give it a try. My husband ordered the steak and was very pleased with it. I got the pear, goat cheese and pecan salad on greens and it was phenomenal. They also have a wine list that's literally two feet long and double sided, however that's only available for bottles. They only had one Pinot Grigio by the glass and honestly as a wine drinker it fell pretty short to me. The fish was good, the cost was about the same ($$$) but the portion was very very small. I was quite surprised by this, as there were a few vegetables and basically a sliver of fish. I mentioned it to our server, but nothing was corrected. I'm not one to send things back... So, moral of the story is: Don't order a seafood special here if you want a hearty meal. My wife and I recently got married on the beach in Clearwater. We came down a few months ago(from NJ) to scope out some of the possible places we could have dinner the night of our wedding. We wanted a place that was hip and had "fun" food... not a place that was stuffy and/or old fashioned. We decided on Bobby's Bistro because of the basic(yet fun) menu and because they told us that they could comfortable seat a party of 25 people on the patio. When we got to the restaurant, however, the experience was incredibly disappointing!!! They had indeed set up multiple tables for us on the patio, but one of the main space heaters wasn't operational. It also happened to be incredibly cold that night so half our party would be freezing. We noticed that the 3 parties that were already eating were almost done. I kindly asked the person attending to us(I forget his name at this point) if they could move our tables under the working space heaters once the other parties left. Not only did he huff and puff about it, it made it known that we were inconveniencing him and his staff. Not only did he tell every single person our dining party this, but he made sure to tell each customer around us. We actually heard him saying, "Sorry, these tables are going to be used because we have a wedding party and they NEED to be warm!!!! Can you believe it?!!?!". WHAT?!?!?! We clearly had the largest party that the place would see all night and that is how you are going to treat us? So unacceptable. Next, he told us that it would take over an hour for them to move the tables around. As if that would stop us from asking him to move the tables. I said, "ok... not a problem. We'll just go down to Sheppard's." He immediately changed his story and told us that it wouldn't take too long. As a matter of fact In the end, the food was ok(nothing great), and the service once we sat down was pretty good... but after the horrible attitude that we had to deal with when we got there, I don't remember much of the rest of the experience(except spending time with my family, friends and new bride). Oh yeah, the side potatoes were really great. Would I go back? nope Would I recommend Bobby's Bistro to anyone else? Hell no. Out of all of the options down in Clearwater, why would I send someone to a place that clearly doesn't care about how it makes the guests feel? read more

First off, you must reserve Jeff as your waiter because he is absolutely fabulous. We came to Bobby's with a group of five girls and Jeff was always on top of things (i.e. brought out props we could take pictures with). The Sherry Shrimp was great and comes with a creamy sauce that you can dip the crispy, fresh, warm bread in. The vege pizza was awesome and priced well enough to even be eaten as an appetizer if you're feelin extra hungry. Order the NY strip steak or Filet Mignon. Both come on a nicely decorated plate with fried onions and great sauces. The Bistro Potatoes were really tasty but you could definitely share it. Overall, the restaurant would serve as a great date spot but there were some families sitting outside on the lit patio. Yelp's current "Top 10 Burgers" list for Clearwater is dramatically wrong. Bobby's Bistro is the single-handed champion of the burgers war, hands down. There's no close competition from the beach to the Courtney Campbell Causway. A good burger is made with the freshest 1/2 pound of beef formed into a tall patty that allows for it to be cooked properly like a fine NY strip, with juices dripping down the sides, carmelizing the outer burger, further securing the flavorful interior. (All of the 1/2 pound competition in Clearwater slaps two 1/4 pound well-done patties together and calls it a "half pound burger", which is false advertising in my opinion.) Topped with a hearty slice of melted Swiss (upon request) that oozes out the sides of the burger, the burger is then topped with a decently formed and grilled bun. This is the only area where there could be some improvement, perhaps going for a taller, moister bun with a golden finish, but again, this minor deficiency doesn't take away it's significant lead over all other competitors. The miracle is not only the fabrication of the juiciest, thickest, most flavorful burger, but that it's just two guys in a kitchen the size of a food truck, who masterfully put out a consistent menu of perfectly cooked, savory meals to their patrons. The staff is appropriately attentive, with very friendly interactions as they may assume that you are a local, since this is THE place where locals like ourselves would go to hide and get an amazing meal, cold well-crafted local beers or fine wines, and to just hibernate in a very cozy, barrel-vaulted ceiling place with friends and family. (Last time we were here, Morgan Freeman was enjoying a quiet meal at a table over with 3 of his friends. Apparently, he feels this is a safe place to have a nice quiet meal without bother.) If you choose to eat in the pub, which is the best place to enjoy this burger with a cold beer, while dressed down, you'll enjoy being served by Chuck, the bartender. Great guy. Also of note is the ability to hop in your Jeep, Maserati, or Tercel and get guaranteed parking in the busiest section of Clearwater Beach thanks to their valet parking. Now that you've read this review, please destroy it, telling no one! It's the best kept secret of Clearwater Beach and I want to keep it that way! Shhhh! read more
