I went here on 8/10/23 with my family looking for a pleasant waffle, as my parents didn't wanna cook and I was CRAVING a good waffle. We got there, the waitress, (who seemed to be working as a solo waitress?) Asked; "Table for 4?" We nodded, and she told us to seat ourselves. We found a seat and about 2 minutes after we sat, she offered drinks, but we were ready to order. I asked for a waffle with strawberries and whip. She told me her waffle machine was down. I was a bit upset, but I just ordered a short stack of pancakes. (W/Strawberries and whip.) I asked for grape juice, and nope. None. Everyone else ordered and we got our orders fairly quick. The pancakes were BIG!!! The whip was good, but it was just thawed frozen strawberries. Yuck. My pancakes weren't very good. Was barely able to finish one. Overall an 8/10 experience. It's was a descent deal. Greeting: friendly. Servers: adults. Mature and communicative. Food: arrived fast. Quality: real eggs from shells not a box. Omelette insides. Pretty minimal.... Thus the fewer star rating. In would've preferred to pay a buck more and get more stuff inside. On a basic menu omelette. I will be back for the atmosphere and service and budget. Came here because of the high Yelp reviews, but wouldn't return. Food was very mediocre...2.5/3 out of 5. Husband got a burger that was flat and underwhelming, accompanied with very flat, thin and not so fresh bread. The avocado on it was under ripe and pretty hard. I got the vegetarian omelette that was very so, so. Cheese wasn't included even for the vegetarian option. Fries were not bad, but also not great. They were crispy. Coffee was very mediocre as well. It was quite bitter and not that smooth. Vibes were cozy and homey. Service was sub par. We were seated and not even given a menu. read more

While my previous review was five stars for several reasons, I can't help but debate on two or three stars anymore. I've wavered back and forth and have decided to go with two. The service was nice... I'll at least start with that! While I don't know the new owners, I think some of the reviews as of late are from people who do, but I'm merely speculating. No toast, English muffin nor biscuit served with breakfast any longer, you have to pay extra; which I mentioned in a previous tip. A plain 'ol cup of drip coffee is $3.00 and we only managed to get it filled one time during our breakfast. Mind you, there was only one other table so it wasn't crazy busy. The prices have sky rocketed! I know we're all dealing with some ridiculous inflation, but we paid close to twice what we have always paid in the past for breakfast and didn't even get the same amount of food/coffee. We use to frequent Bobby's pretty regularly... enough that several of the employees recognized us and we always had pleasant chitchat. I can't help but think all of the others that were regulars are also disappointed in the changes. While the interior hasn't changed a lot, they've painted and changed some photos. In the men's room, they've installed a shelf upside down in the most ridiculous manner and it's only a matter of time before it comes crashing down. The menu's are now printed pieces of paper with water stains and fingerprints, rather than the covers that could be cleaned. Overall... disappointing and we've decided to say goodbye to our beloved local breakfast spot. read more

It was about 11am-12pm on a Saturday so really either meal would've worked but they ran out of a few lunch items so opted for breakfast... Chicken fried steak, hash, eggs and toast. Very economical, sightly greasy (yum) and extra star for local owned! The hash brown had this extra crispiness that I wished extended to the middle part of the hash. I need to purchase some new catchphrases. Until then, I'll re-use one of my stock ones: "Where have you been all my life?!" Chugiak is an easy town to miss. It's between Eagle River and Wasilla/Palmer. Most locals blaze right by it, let alone tourists. However, it has not one, but TWO breakfast places. The other has very limited hours and I still haven't been. This one is a crisp, clean diner-style restaurant. What it has in common with classic diners: - bread is always pre-buttered - little single-serve jellies - hearty portions - country fried steak - gravy - various meat/egg/potato combos - coffee is functional and utilitarian, merely a vessel for caffeine-dosing What it does not have in common: - you pay at your table, not at the front! (I prefer this) Service was fast and friendly. I got a a meat and egg combo. Bacon was above-average, as were the hash browns. I'd definitely return! read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, Well that didn't happen today sadly, I wrote down my name and waited 10 minutes for nothing. There were plenty of open tables and few spots open at the bar, but not one acknowledgment from the staff. If the place was crazy busy I could understand but it wasn't. The bacon. You know how breakfast places give those tiny, scrappy pieces of bacon? Not this place. In the Farmer's breakfast I was treated to four large, think slices of delicious bacon. Furthermore, it was the meal for me. Hash browns, bacon, eggs, and gravy and biscuits. Normally, I can't get the gravy dish AND the rest of the good stuff. Service was a little slow but the place was PACKED. They apologized when we were paying and said they weren't expecting to be so busy. It's bigger than it looks from the outside and even if the parking lot is packed, there is probably an open table or two. Self seating so go find you a spot. We frequented this restaurant about once every two weeks. In the past the service and food were generally quite good. Today we sat down, an unkempt young man asked if we wanted something to drink. We asked for coffee and hot tea. He said he didn't know where the tea was but after a few minutes he brought me hot tea. Another 10+ minutes went by and the waitress (?) / cook came by the table to take our order. We said we didn't get a menu. She grabbed two pieces of paper that had seen better days. I looked at the menu. Eggs and toast $13 - what? I realize that prices have gone up but that's ridiculous. One order of hash browns - $6.50, they were just barely warm when they arrived. No jam on the table, we had to get that from another table. One tiny package of almost melted butter to put on two slices of toast. No offer for a coffee refill. Went for a drive to Mirror Lake and felt the grumbling of the stomach which was a clear indicator I needed food. Did a quick look and found this little gem. Simple diner food served hot, quickly, and by a super friendly staff. I went for the Philly Steak sandwich and was unfortunately unable to consume the whole thing. Very generous loads of steak and cheese sat atop a butter-grilled hoagie bun, begging me to allow them to fulfill their purpose and enter my belly. Unfortunately the pumpkin pie started screaming my name and I took compassion in the pie - I ordered a piece and was not disappointed. I don't know where they get their pie but it's not from the local grocery store. Great texture, full flavor, and generous portions describe my piece of pie. Not to worry, I took my leftover sandwich home and had a 2nd lunch later that afternoon add I watched football. Luckily I was properly seated as I went into a food coma for a couple hours, content with a full stomach of steak and pumpkin pie. Came in here with my boyfriend at his suggestion for a late lunch. We had such friendly service. The food is so good. I had a burger and the potato salad, he is keto so he got some scrambled eggs and a side of bacon. The burger was huge! The side of potato salad was enormous! I'm so sorry I haven't come and eaten here sooner but I'm going to be stopping by more often. They have a menu that's fairly sizeable and I want to work my way through it. Stop in and give it a try. First time here; I like to wait usually before writing a review, but I thought I'd make an exception this time on account of how nice it was here. Service: 5/5 The waitress is super friendly and patient. In typical diner fashion, they'll make you stuff that's not exactly prescribed on the menu. Typical breakfast products. The kitchen is open view, so you can see them at work. Kind of reminds me of when I was a kid and would watch Mom make breakfast on Saturdays. The staff aren't pushy to get you out once you're done. Cleanliness: 5/5 The establishment is very clean overall. The kitchen looks like they work cleaning into their daily routine and take the task seriously. Everything has its place, everything is clean and organized. The tables aren't too close to each other, so you can feel comfortable and not crowded. Food Quality: 4/5 The food is exactly what you'd expect from a nice diner. It isn't some series of prodigal dishes, but they are made expertly and with care. Price: 5/5 The cost of a bacon and eggs dish is a whopping $1.50 less than usual, which is pretty dang good. They might make up for it elsewhere, but breakfast is where it's at, am I right? Downsides: Not many to write about. They open at 8:00 AM (on the dot, I might add), so I'd you're an early bird like me, you're not going to stop here before work or anything. Country Fried Steak Burger is on special occasionally and it is always my go-to. If they aren't terribly busy, they will still make it for you off-menu. Reindeer skillet is a great breakfast option. Though Gwennie's has the top place due to sentimentality, Bobby's Cafe certainly has earned a loyal customer through their great prices, supple portions and close proximity to home! Breakfast is served all day in a locale that is warm, friendly and down-to-earth, though a little refurbishing would not be out of the question in the future. However, the staff members are pleasant, personable and very quick on the task. So far as the food is concerned, portions are large and taste terrific. The prices make you wonder how they can even break even, but I suppose that is not only a compliment towards them, but also a way of saying they work wonders! If you are looking for an establishment that cooks food to a happy medium of not too crispy and not too soft, Bobby's is the way to go! read more
