My partner got the egg sandwich and I got the 1 pancake, 1 egg, 1 bacon, and 1 sausage special. I got the chocolate chip pancake. It came with powdered sugar on it. It was a good portion of food, a large pancake, and lots of chocolate chips in it. It was just very good and I can see why it's so busy all the time. There were 3 people who had birthdays today and the waiter got everyone singing happy birthday to the birthday people. This place was crowded when I got there and I know understand why. This place is a flat top, mom & pop diner kind of breakfast and lunch spot. The reviews were good and I was in the area while they were open so I stopped in. I had the pleasure of sitting at the counter and chat with a Tucson resident for the past 30 years. She told me that Bobo's was sold to a staff member years ago and her daughter was running the place now. I had the chicken fried steak lunch with a side of the flat top potatoes. The chicken fried steak was good, but the potoes were amazing. This place is cool, the staff cares about the restaurant and their customers. This place is poppin. My family told me about it and I always see lines. I should preface my review by saying I'm not a breakfast person; I can easily skip breakfast as it's never exciting to me. Parking lot was sufficient, and although there was a line, we actually didn't wait long. The menu was a couple dollars cheaper than more modern breakfast spots, but there was no itching special about the offerings. Nothing popped out and made me think "ooohhhh yup, now I'm hungry!" The outside was without frill, as was the inside. No problem with being basic, but it felt claustrophobic and semi dingy inside. Everything is so tight inside that it seems they would have issues doing a deep clean without first fitting the place. I had a view of the kitchen and saw the chef make the food. The pancakes are huge; I assume pancake lovers would like them. But the chef put a huge glob of butter down to make the eggs and potatoes. I'm not a health nut but WHOA! I felt my arteries harden as I watched. Regardless of my opinion of the environment or the cooking, everyone there was happily gobbling their food down. Including my family. Nobody had any issues because they liked the food, or maybe the simple old school diner atmosphere was what they came for. Customer service was fine; no complaints in that arena. Perhaps if I was a breakfast person, I would have been more into the experience. But it's not for me. It's where local go and where locals take their visitors. The place is tiny, so expect a wait. And you may even find yourself seated with strangers. In addition to some booth seating, there are regular tables and also a bar. Open kitchen, so you can see all of the staff at work. I know people who will wait 30 minutes or more to dine here. Not sure why -- maybe for the allure of the place. The food is good, and the experience is nice (Great staff! Really, awesome folks work here). But, really...a 30-minute+ wait? Um, no. Anyway, I'm still a fan. Don't let the appearance scare you away. The food isn't swimming in fat. But it's not light either. Certainly bring your appetite. It seems the omelets and the (large) pancakes are the big sellers. I love their breakfast potatoes. Perfect shape, delicious consistency with the slight charring that MAKES breakfast potatoes. This tiny little establishment is a very busy place. We are lucky to get a table, despite the limited number of tables and counter area. We place our order, and are asked twice if it was correct. My husband decided to try their dutch apple pancake, but he order two! He'd read reviews, seen the pictures and knew they were big, so he thought he could handle it. They took the order, but with a little hesitance, I guess others had tried. We both got a typical breakfast plate, with scrabbled eggs, hash browns, and bacon. When the cakes arrived, our eyes grew wide, and our stomachs even wider! We managed to eat about 2/3 of them both. Had we not had the eggs, hash and bacon, I am sure we could have finished it all. Pay attention for the line, it's larger than the sign and for good reason. I wish I could've free range grazed on the banana pancake with maple syrup, they look amazing. I had a custom omelet and omelettes just aren't their thing. It's built kinda like a stuffed crepe, but the mushrooms and onions were barely cooked, like mostly raw. They gladly remade it, but Brawleys is hands down better for omelette fare. Can't wait to return for the carbfest! However, I was seated immediately for a table of 3. Like a few others have mentioned, the chances of being placed at the same table as another party are pretty high, since it's such a small place. You'll have to get a little cozy with your dining companions, but there's definitely enough room to eat comfortably. The wait staff was friendly and helpful, and super on top of drink refills (I don't think my water cup dropped below the halfway mark at any point). The food was a little slow to come out, but there were a decent amount of people in there, and it wasn't terrible compared to most other breakfast places. I had the pancake meal with a banana pancake, two over easy eggs, two slices of bacon, and two sausage links ($7.12 total). I didn't have the sausage, and the eggs and bacon were standard, but oh good god that pancake. For starters, it was the size of the entire plate. Beautifully crafted into a perfect cinnamon-y banana-y mess of goodness, it was one of the best pancakes I've ever had in my entire life, even sans syrup. My friends had the apple pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes, and both exclaimed many times throughout the meal that theirs were delicious as well. I think it's safe to say that I'll be back.
