Hole in the wall establishments like this one is the sole reason I Yelp. This was our first time eating out since the pandemic so I was very nervous. But, this was also my first weekend off since the reopening of elective medical procedures and probably my last one in a very long time so we decided to go for it. This place is small. Only 7 tables and 2 booths so we waited about 30 minutes to be seated. Once inside they had closed 2 tables to maintain social distancing. We felt very safe once inside. There was a guy in the corner sanitizing all menus and condiment bottles and all employees wore masks. Food was great! Huge portions and at a very reasonable price. The chicken fried steak was piping hot and so crunchy. My daughter really enjoyed her mushroom burger as well. My 4 year old ordered a banana pancake and it was huge. Best banana pancake I have ever tasted. It would literally melt in your mouth. So decadent that No syrup was needed. Best of all was how attentive and welcoming the staff was. Our cups were never empty despite how busy they were with takeout orders. Can't wait to be back in Tucson to dine here again. read more

I will start off by saying the place is small but very cosy/comfy.. We were a party of 6 and they accommodated us quickly. Coffee was amazing cup was never empty and our server was as amazing as our coffee (Danielle). Food came out super fast and it was DELICIOUS and prices are very reasonable. Food is awesome service is good they are always busy and there's usually a waiting list depending on the time of day, but the wait usually moves quickly. The amount of food you get for the price is outstanding considering prices these days. And it's delicious. Okay, that's the good. On my last visit( because I chose not to return) I noticed the place was filthy, I had to return my silverware twice to get a clean set. Looking up I noticed there were large dust bunny's hanging from above. It could easily drop into my coffee cup. I started paying attention to the stuff, no hand washing between taking cash and serving food. Servers sneezed and covered her mouth and then picked up the plates to serve. Also noticed another server with a runny nose he would wipe it on his sleeve sometimes even blow into a tissue but again no hand washing was observed. I miss bobos I hoped they would step up their environment and staffs bag habits. Until they do I'll be at Alice's. Another great place equally as good only also clean. read more

I've been coming here for years. They are known for their huge pancakes and good prices. I have placed to go orders here three times in the past three weeks. Today, 5/18/2020, I placed a to go order. My 7 year old niece pulled out a long straight hair in the pancake of her kids meal while eating. I then found a hair in my box with potatoes and bacon. I called the restaurant immediately upon finding the hairs and reported it. The man who answered said he would let the manager know. That was it, no offer to replace, no apology, and no offer for a refund. Needless to say, due to the hair and how this situation was handled, my family and I will not be eating here anymore. I'm not a huge fan of trendy, expensive brunch places that seem to believe that slow service and keeping a line out the door is good for business. Bobo's is the opposite of that, and I'm thrilled. They are justifiably busy, (so you may have a wait to be seated), because the food is wonderful and plentiful, but a seemingly endless series of staff trading responsibilities keeps things rolling. My wife wanted something light, so she ordered a single pancake that turned out to be anything but. The apple pancake came topped with spectacularly caramelized apple slices, and filled the plate (I was happy to help with what she could not finish). I went with an omelet that was, not unexpectedly, equally filling. A highlight for me was when I ordered decaf, and was informed that a fresh pot was being started for me. The server put a bright yellow card next to my cup, indicating to anyone else passing by what I was drinking. This simple step made it possible for me to get my coffee and my refills without worrying about who was pouring. A pancake, a pancake, my kingdom for a pancake. Hey folks! Hopeless pancake fanatic here with a public service message to all my fellow pancake aficionados. Do yourself a favor and get on over to Bobo's for a pancake experience you won't soon forget. In short Bobo's knows pancakes. But why? I mean what makes the Bobo's pancake, culinarily speaking, perfect? Well it starts with the batter. According to their menu Bobo uses a buttermilk batter and judging by their light fluffy texture it most likely also includes self-rising flour. This golden combo leads to the lactose being metabolized into lactic acid which reacts with the bicarbonate in the self-rising flour to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) gas, or something. Bubbles of gas are caught in the batter as it cooks making the pancake oh so fluffy. But it's not just about the ingredients. The batter cannot be too thick. Or too watery. It mustn't be over stirred lest too much gluten is formed making a cake that's too tough. Griddle temperature is also key and the golden brown finish on these beauties suggests Bobo keeps his griddle at around 375 F. In the sequel each pancake, a work of art in its own rite, perfectly captures the essence of Bobo's Zen-like mastery over all things griddle and the result is truly a thing of beauty. An oft overlooked but critically important consideration of any pancake joint is the syrup situation. Too many places nowadays succumb to what I call the thimble system. That's where the syrup is served in a thimble-sized container the mere sight of which causes me to die just a little inside. Here again Bobo's knocks it out of the park. As you can see in Exhibit A Bobo's uses the full-sized squeeze bottle, filled to the top I might add. Pancake aficionados worldwide share a special bond with the squeeze bottle. We look at them and they stare back as if to say, "I'm there for you with plenty of syrup and I won't let you down mid-pancake." Exhibit B shows the 2 egg / 2 bacon / 2 sausage plus 1 gorgeous plate-sized pancake breakfast combo that wife and I both ordered. She's a real looker isn't she? I'm talking about the pancake of course. I get all choked up just looking at it. But alas, I must shoulder on... The setting. Some might call Bobo's a hole in the wall or dive. I prefer cozy, family friendly atmosphere with a mom and pop sort of vibe. The booths are comfy and now include partitions extending above each seat to increase social distance in homage to these COVID sensitive times. In finishing this review I'll mention that Bobo's service is efficient, friendly, and attentive. Water is served the moment you're seated and coffee order taken a few milliseconds thereafter. Our server (sorry I didn't get her name) stopped by frequently to refill our coffees, and a couple more times just to ask if we needed anything. She was quick with the check as we were finishing up. Breakfast for two was about $24. All in all Bobo's is a wonderful place grab breakfast. And oh did I mention the pancakes? read more

The food tastes home cooked and I mean that in the best way possible, brings so much comfort. Pancakes are humongous and perfectly crafted. Highly recommend banana pancakes. I have had pancakes in many states from NY to IN to FL to CA. The fluffiness, taste, light crispy outer cake, & ability to fill up (& still have a doggy bag) combine to make Bobo's pancakes the BEST I have ever had the pleasure of eating! I also love the hometown feel in the dining room. The servers make sure coffee remains fresh & hot and that customers have what they need to enjoy their fresh cook to order meals. I got lost on my 1st visit (after relocating to Tucson from So Cal). The very nice gentleman (host) who answered my call patiently directed me across the street to Bobo's parking lot. I decided that I would make this one of my first "Tucson traditions" and treat myself to a Bobo's pancake before each doctor's appointment. If you live in or visit Tucson, do not miss these pancakes!! The dining room is small and there may be a brief wait but there is clearly a solid reason for that... Bobo's pancakes are awesome!! I've eaten at all the Bobo's because I love their food so much! It's authentic and addictive, fresh, healthy and tasty. I've actually had dreams about Bobo's! They are my favorite Vietnamese restaurant, And I've eaten Vietnamese food from San Diego up to Seattle, even in Canada when my husband and I drove long-haul 18-wheelers. I always come home to Bobo's. I grew up in Auburn, CA, and ate at the Bobo's there, then moved down to Sacramento to care for my parents, then my sister and I moved back home, and I started going to my hometown Auburn Bobo's again. Now, when you walk in you might be a little confused because the place might seem empty at times, but since COVID-19, many restaurants are doing mostly take-out business, so don't make any snap judgments! Came as a group of 6 on a Friday at noon and we squeezed ourselves into a booth to avoid a wait. It was a hard choice between the pancakes and french toast, which was part of the daily special, but I ultimately chose the pancakes. Now, you may be concerned about some of the menu options--I mean, who would be happy with JUST one pancake? That one pancake is certainly enough, and bigger than your head! See the photo with the fork included for size comparison; it's certainly large and quite thick. I ordered the combo of 1 pancake, 2 eggs, 2 sausages, and 2 strips of bacon, all for ~$8. Definitely a great deal for the amount of food you get! I ended up finishing the protein and some of the pancake, but had to take most of it back with me. By far the best French toast I have ever had. I can't find anywhere that does it like them! Also their pancakes. Delicious and huge like seriously HUGE! But the atmosphere is lacking which is expected for a small little cafe here in Tucson but I do wish they would update just a little bit! There's always a wait on the weekends because of the small dining area but it's well worth the wait. Service is great and the coffee is okay... not the best but not the worst! This must be the most overrated breakfast diner in town. Waited outside for an hour to be seated on a rainy day. Once in the restaurant we found many large tables all clumped together. The air was stuffy due to the large amount of people and the open kitchen. Very loud also. For food we got chocolate chip pancakes and an omelette. The pancakes were delicious. Fluffy with a generous amount of powdered sugar on top. The omelette not so much. It looked like the eggs were cooked an hour before, rolled with the toppings and microwaved to the table. On top, they didn't even bring us any salsa to go with. While Bobo's price point is appealing I didn't find the place to live to the hype. This place is poppin. My family told me about it and I always see lines. I should preface my review by saying I'm not a breakfast person; I can easily skip breakfast as it's never exciting to me. Parking lot was sufficient, and although there was a line, we actually didn't wait long. The menu was a couple dollars cheaper than more modern breakfast spots, but there was no itching special about the offerings. Nothing popped out and made me think "ooohhhh yup, now I'm hungry!" The outside was without frill, as was the inside. No problem with being basic, but it felt claustrophobic and semi dingy inside. Everything is so tight inside that it seems they would have issues doing a deep clean without first fitting the place. I had a view of the kitchen and saw the chef make the food. The pancakes are huge; I assume pancake lovers would like them. But the chef put a huge glob of butter down to make the eggs and potatoes. I'm not a health nut but WHOA! I felt my arteries harden as I watched. Regardless of my opinion of the environment or the cooking, everyone there was happily gobbling their food down. Including my family. Nobody had any issues because they liked the food, or maybe the simple old school diner atmosphere was what they came for. Customer service was fine; no complaints in that arena. Perhaps if I was a breakfast person, I would have been more into the experience. But it's not for me. This is a great place to come if you want diner food. The inside is unique and even though this is a smaller place, the tables turn fast. There is normally a wait at breakfast time but I've rarely waited longer than 15 minutes. The staff is always friendly and the service is quick. My favorite items on the menu are the Huevos Rancheros and the blueberry pancakes. read more
