Starting with the bottom line: "I love this place and the story". Recently stumbled across this little gem in downtown. This review is after my 4th visit and these sandwiches are exceptional! Everything is so fresh, the place is clean and the service is always extra friendly - makes you feel like a valued customer. The Frank Nitti sandwich is my "go to", but I look forward to working my way across the entire menu. Their quality cuts, robust sandwich builds, solid chip and beverage options (Doc Brown's Black Cherry) make this a must do in Tucson. With regards to their backstory...one of perseverance, sound business practices and providing a wonderful service in the center of downtown, check it out here: https://www.4thavedeli.com/about. This is my #1 deli choice in Tucson, and for context - I have tried them all.

Great sandwich shop

Fantastic sandwiches in a funky little space. The service was friendly and quick. My BLT was filled with crispy bacon on a toasted sourdough. My honey got a turkey bacon avocado with an unexpected spicy sauce. He love it too!

Total hole in the wall on 4th , very easy to miss ! A must stop for vegans ! They have a pretty good vegan hotdog & vegan sandwich menu . Vegan mini dessert pies , vegan coleslaw & vegan chili here . Excellent hot sauce choices as well . Indoor & outdoor seating . Quirky little vhs movies playing inside on an old T.V. Parking can be limited on 4th so plan accordingly. Service is pretty quick .

meatball sub w extra cheese ofc

This place is one of my favorites in Tucson and is a go to whenever I'm craving a meatball sub. I get this through the Wildcat Special which also comes with chips and a drink for like $13.50 (the special also has some pastrami sandwhich option). Their cannolis are fire too. Food does take a little bit to come out, but it's totally worth the wait. Limited seating inside but nicely decorated with a little vintage/retro vibe. Been coming here sophomore-senior year and it hits everytime

Always packed

Pretty darn delicious. I must say- and I don't mean this as bad bc it means care is given. The sandos take forever. I've been here 3x and it's a wait. Now granted, the first time they ran out of cucumbers so they had to run across the street. Yes they asked first if the wait was too long or do I want another sandwich. Regardless m, phenomenal product! I love this tiny deli & I will drive to support. It's very small to eat in, but wonderful comics on the walls.

Disgusting White American Wonder Bread type roll

I went in today to order a sandwich. No problem place was completely empty. Got my sandwich. I asked about the rolls because it said that it was a Sicilian hoagie roll, which is a very specific type of bread so I asked about it and the woman that worked there described as a Soft role. And I said well no that's not a Sicilian huggy roll a Sicilian huggy roll is a specific kind of red and she just looks at me and she goes well. It's a squishy roll. No that's a hoagie roll so I got it. It's disgusting and it is a white American disgusting hoagie roll like you would have in a school cafeteria. It is by no means a Sicilian hoagie roll. Rye bread isn't rye bread because you say it's rye bread and you just give people bread and say it's ripe bread. So you can't call something. A Sicilian hoagie roll which is supposed to have the texture of a Portuguese roll a hard crunchy dough, European bread and then give people a disgusting soggy American gross nasty piece of garbage.

First time here and I really loved the small, hole in the wall feel and the nostalgia with the old photos and small TV with the VCR. The menu is pretty extensive in my opinion but I just opted for the BLT with Miss Vickie Jalapeno chips w/a pickle. I always need something sweet so I got a canoli but I didn't like it the cream was a bit chalky imo.. The BLT wasn't anything to write home about but they've got other versions of it like the Cali BLT with avocado, etc. The young lady behind the counter was kind and the service was good, I'd return to try other menu items.

Underwhelming. Dismissive staff. $22 for a sandwich. Flavor wasn't there, but the sandwich was well put together. The slaw tasted old.

Vegan options GALORE! Check out the special VEGAN MENU I uploaded of their veggie stuff, and the vegan yumminess we ordered (except for the pasta salad of course - that was meaty and cheesy and also very yum! 3 bean chili had awesome flavor. Great service, cute tiny/skinny building with a couple of seating options inside and outside. Very fair pricing, and overall chill energy.

The 4th Avenue Deli in downtown Tucson is a small "hole in the wall " place that offers traditional deli food. We had a pastrami sandwich and a meatball sub. Both were good, the meatballs were really good, nothing fancy but satisfying. The meals came with bags of chips and canned drinks. Not exactly fine dining but worth a visit.

I had the Frank Nitti which was fantastic. Plenty of toppings, soft bread and a good sized sandwich. They only had two kinds of chips but don't know if that's always the case or not. No fountain drinks but plenty of canned sodas and AZ ice tea. A few tables inside and outside so it's a small space but the food is hard to beat for a quality sandwich downtown. Beats the two chain sandwich joints by a mile.

Hole in the wall sandwich shop on 4th Avenue with some great sandwich options that you might be standing here for hours trying to decide which sandwich to try first. The shop was playing some good classic tunes and there were a few tables to sit out and enjoy the great food. Staff was extremely helpful in suggesting sandwich options and friendly as well. Had the Pretty Boy Floyd sandwich which had Turkey, bacon, and green apple which was enhanced by some of the best honey mustard I've had. Not your average boring sandwich shop; you'll never run out of new sandwich creations to try. A perfect stop for lunch on your exploration of 4th avenue!

However, I have to give 3 stars for the overall execution of my meal. I had a half of a Hammer sandwich which was about $8. It's ham, soppressata, cheese, lettuce, tomato, banana peppers, dijon, vinegar, oil, garlic sauce. Unfortunately, I felt that my sandwich came with skimpy toppings. I got a pretty thinly stacked layer of ham and 2 little ovals of soppressata. The cheese was barely present. I also would have loved more tomato. I got a good amount of lettuce and banana peppers, though! Unfortunately, I just couldn't taste the meat and cheese toppings super well due to their being not much of them on the sandwich. The flavor of all the other ingredients were good, though. My friend got the Scramwich on Foccacia for $14. Looking at it, I could also tell it had not much proscuitto. Upon further inspection opening one of the halves of the sandwich... it was definitely only a few little smaller pieces of proscuitto. (The other toppings were on the other piece of bread, don't worry, those were fine) Sorry for the ugly photo - hard to really capture it without dissecting the thing. I also just noticed while looking at the photo again that one of the pieces of arugula also had black spots on it... Definitely not very fresh. My friend still enjoyed the foccacia, sundried tomatoes, and other toppings, but also felt there wasn't enough proscuitto. For the price, I would hope for a sufficient amount of meat. Heard a lot of hype about Quisty's and I see great potential in their quality and concepts! With better execution I'd definitely consider coming back. It's just hard to justify paying as much as we did for sandwiches that were skimpy on arguably one of the most important toppings!

This place is located in an artsy / entertainment district close to downtown. When we went, there was road construction nearby that made getting here more challenging. Once we located it, the next challenge was parking. We visited around noon on a Saturday. There are no large parking lots, so you have to find something on-street. We ventured a couple of blocks off the main street and found something. However, the signage wasn't really clear on whether you had to pay on weekends or not. We accessed the parking app via a QR code, but it told us that our space 'was not available', despite the fact that we were in the space. A guy leaving the space next to us confirmed that parking *was* free on weekends, so we trusted that and walked to the restaurant. In retrospect, I think the app meant that we did not need to pay, but 'not available' seems a bit vague for that... The restaurant is located on a strip of old storefronts that now house restaurants, record shops, etc. There was a lot of pedestrian traffic out front, including a homeless guy asking for change. The atmosphere was sort of a loud, slightly cramped dive bar. I don't mean that in a bad way, but that was the vibe. The music was loud - none of it was familiar but I didn't hate it. I guess my point is that if you are looking for a quiet spot for lunch, this is probably not it. We initially were offered a table on their covered patio. We left one person there while sorting out parking, but when we came back they had a booth inside so we grabbed that instead. The patio seemed shaded and semi-comfortable, other than a loud barking dog. We browsed the menus and ordered our food. We all got half-and-half combos (soup/salad or sandwich/soup). The only issue was that the soups came in a bread bowl. I was able to finish my soup, but felt bad about not eating more of the bowl. If I'd had the option, I would have gotten a plastic bowl. The salad was pretty big, despite being only half. I finished most of it. We ended up having sufficient leftovers from others such that we took them back to our hotel (a relatively short drive) and finished them the next evening. All the food was tasty. This wasn't what I was expecting, but I'd consider eating here again given the right circumstances / group.

When first entering it's a very small booths and bar but if you continue down the hall past the bathrooms they have a big open outside/indoor patio seating area! Great if you have kids or pets with you So the food. Honestly some of the best sandwiches I've ever had Their combo with the bread bowl and half a sandwich is hard to beat to be honest. A little bit of both worlds there I recommend eating the bread bowl first because it's more filling that you think and you can take the sandwich home They have a wide range of options for everyone And even offer a picky kid friendly sandwiches like PB & J, might sound boring or normal but that was the best PB & J I've ever had The staff is very nice and helpful They run the bar also and will bounce between the bar and your table So if the bar is busy I'm sure it could take a bit for you to order at your table Great food Great environment And friendly people Highly recommended!

I ordered the impala with 2 patties and tried the Tucson beefsteak too. Food: (3.5/5) The impala burger comes with 1 patty normally but I added another for $6.95. The patties were apparently made of 70/30 grass-fed ground beef with shiitake mushrooms. They were very juicy, tender, and flavorful. These patties were also cooked perfectly with crispy edges and a juicy center. The impala burger also came with bbq sauce and crispy onions. Besides the patty, the rest of the burger was pretty standard. However, the fries were horrible. They came lukewarm while the burger was served hot, and the fries had no texture. They were soggy and chewy, like frozen fries that were microwaved for 15 seconds. The Tucson beefsteak was quite nice, and the meat was juicy and the dip it came with made it even more juicy. The mini chimis banderas were very mediocre. They had a severe lack of flavor. It just tasted like fried dough. Service: (N/A) The restaurant is mostly self serve except that they bring you the food. This means you get up and get the water and place the order yourself. They also don't charge gratuity or tip. Ambiance: (5/5) The interior was decorated and music was playing. The place just has a nice vibe to it. When I came, it wasn't very busy or loud. Overall I would recommend this place for the vibe and because the burger patties are so good and the Tucson beefsteak is so juicy, but just be aware that the fries can be pretty bad.
