As for the food, I got one of the daily specials, a hot meatball sub with a pickle spear, a bag of chips and a can of cream soda ($13.50 for the lot). I liked my sandwich. One of my friends got the hot pastrami sandwich and was not impressed. The menu consists mostly of sandwiches and hot dogs with toppings; they have vegetarian and vegan options. Visiting Tucson and needed a good, quick lunch option near the University and found a good one. Found it on Google and the vegan options caught my attention. Ironically enough, that's not what I went with, but great know they had a variety of veggie dogs and lettuce wraps for those who want gluten free sandwich options. Cozy sandwich spot that might make it into your rotation if you work nearby. What I love: I don't know if they'll start it up again, but they've sometimes had a semi-secret menu of late-night bites on the weekends. I got nachos of all things one time on my way to clubbing and they were surprisingly very good! What I like: There's a whole section of the menu just for BLTs. I absolutely love the Tucson LT (spicy mayo, pepperjack), but they have one with avocados and cucumbers, and another with Brie and apple. If you feel like switching things up, there are plenty of traditional sandwiches (turkey, pastrami, the usual) and even some fine vegetarian options (this is one of two places in town that makes a veggie sandwich I like!). You can even get a hot dog, if you're into that! This place is very narrow and might be the smallest restaurant in the whole neighborhood. I usually get my meal to go, but you don't have to. This place is probably a great restaurant but it came up on a yelp search for "best gluten free" and it is not that. I stopped in and spoke to the sandwich maker. She said they can do a lettuce wrap but unless you are recreationally gluten free and not celiac like me, you should avoid this place. Plenty of opportunity for cross contamination. read more

The 4th Ave deli is truly a large piece to the complex Tucson puzzle. This place has been serving up dishes for over a decade and I don't see them stopping anytime soon. With the unique menu and authentic service, this place kills it. The interior is awesome with big tables and swivel stools. The music choice is top notch and I've had some great conversations with the workers regarding it. Whether you dine in or take it to go you can't go wrong. I've been getting the Pretty Boy Floyd sandwich for the last 3 years and I still get excited for it every time I go. The ingredients are fresh and the taste is top notch. First time here and I really loved the small, hole in the wall feel and the nostalgia with the old photos and small TV with the VCR. The menu is pretty extensive in my opinion but I just opted for the BLT with Miss Vickie Jalapeno chips w/a pickle. I always need something sweet so I got a canoli but I didn't like it the cream was a bit chalky imo.. I went in today to order a sandwich. No problem place was completely empty. Got my sandwich. I asked about the rolls because it said that it was a Sicilian hoagie roll, which is a very specific type of bread so I asked about it and the woman that worked there described as a Soft role. And I said well no that's not a Sicilian huggy roll a Sicilian huggy roll is a specific kind of red and she just looks at me and she goes well. It's a squishy roll. No that's a hoagie roll so I got it. It's disgusting and it is a white American disgusting hoagie roll like you would have in a school cafeteria. It is by no means a Sicilian hoagie roll. Rye bread isn't rye bread because you say it's rye bread and you just give people bread and say it's ripe bread. So you can't call something. A Sicilian hoagie roll which is supposed to have the texture of a Portuguese roll a hard crunchy dough, European bread and then give people a disgusting soggy American gross nasty piece of garbage. read more
