Bobo's is one of those rare San Francisco restaurants that feels genuinely distinctive rather than manufactured. The atmosphere is lively and eccentric, the food is remarkably consistent, and the bone-in filet is unlike anything you'll find at a typical steakhouse. This place is a staple in SF. It's a jester themed steakhouse which is just fun and different. The issue was that our steaks were rare. I like a good medium rare steak and these were not that. When we mentioned it to the server after dinner, he was slightly rude and said we should have asked them to cook them more and blamed us. Of course we should have sent them back, but at the same time they should have cooked their steaks correctly given they are a steakhouse. It was a bummer, because I was really excited to eat here. If you're looking for a classic steakhouse experience that's not House of Prime, you should definitely consider Bobo's. Excellent food, good drinks, and friendly service. There's even a free parking garage next to the restaurant. I'd been to Bobo's a couple of times years ago and remember enjoying the bread service and the steak and crab combos. We did have one experience where the bone in filet was practically raw and too served too cold but that was years ago. I recently came again for a friend's birthday where we shared several apps, a couple of large porterhouses, sides, and desserts. Everything was so delicious that Bobo's is now back on my list of go to steakhouses in the Bay Area. My favorite apps were the crab and spinach fondue and the iron skillet seafood items. The porterhouse steak was so tender and had a nice crust on it. This was an exceptional find. We are staying overnight across the street and we're looking for dinner options. We decided on Bobo's and walked over. We were seated promptly and got a table upstairs in the window. Our service was excellent. The food was incredible! One of the best meals I've had in a very long time. The bread service was unique but really tasty, the clam chowder is creamy and delicious with little croutons added. We split a bone-in rib eye and this steak was cooked to perfection. Our server also cut our steak for us tableside which was an unexpected but perfect option for us to share. A crisp crust and the meat melted in our mouths. We also order garlic mashed potatoes and their mac n cheese and both were delicious. I had a limoncello drop and it was just right. We also enjoyed the tiny Mexican Cokes in a bottle served over ice. We finished our meal with their crème brûlée and it was one of the best we've had. Everything about our meal was top notch, an absolute treat to find such a great restaurant in San Francisco. We started off with the seafood platter. Came with shrimp, crab legs and mussels. It was delicious. For the steak we shared a porterhouse and tomahawk. We wanted to try a little bit of everything. It was cooked medium. Well seasoned. Don't need any sauce. I recommend the Caesar salad and Brussels sprouts for the sides. For dessert get the chocolate lava cake. The service was great. Holy smokes... this place The hubs and I were celebrating his birthday and almost went to Morton's, but I saw this place had better reviews. Wanting to try something new with a bunch of people who are getting old (including me), I made a reservation for a late weeknight dinner here on a Tuesday. Many of our group have not seen each other in twenty or more years so it definitely qualifies as a reunion meal. Never having dined here before, I remembered that valet parking was available here prior to March 2020. When confirming my reservation, I asked the young lady for parking advice and she told me that we were allowed to park in the motel spaces since they share the parking lot with the motel. After entering, the hostess brought us to the dining to the right, just behind her stand. After a short discussion, we reached a consensus that we'd each order our entree and share a few appetizers and sides family style. Here's what I tried: Appetizers, all shared 1. I wish they offered a variety of steak sauces besides this and ketchup, an opinion shared by several fellow diners. I've always enjoyed coming here, which is why this visit felt a little disappointing compared to previous experiences. The food itself was still good, but the portions noticeably seemed smaller this time around. One thing we always loved was the little extras and attention to detail -- for example, when ordering the basil martini, they'd usually bring the extra shaker with enough for another pour or two, which honestly felt like part of the experience. This time, that was gone. We also ordered crab and weren't provided crackers/tools until we had to ask. Steakhouse date night? What's not to love. Bobo's is a spot my family took me many moons ago, so coming back after almost 10 years, it felt a bit nostalgic. They're known for their bone-in filet which I knew I had to order. Before the main dish we started with a few appetizers. Iron-skillet shrimp: We shared a single order, which comes with around 14 shrimp on a hot sizzling iron skillet with tons of butter and garlic. It's a peel off situation, and damn I could've eaten more of these. Would 100% order again. Crab Cakes - these were tasty but not outta this world. $19.95 for two, it's not something I'd say I need to have but if the table wanted it, I'd eat it again. House bread ($3.50) - not a huge fan, ate a couple of a bites and we were done. I think if the bread was warm or slightly toasted I'd enjoy it more. For sides we tried the garlic mash, creamy spinach, and mac n cheese. All were really tasty, and nothing was left behind. The Mac n cheese was my favorite, it was hella cheesy, hella crispy, and with a little extra salt and pepper, I ended up eating more than I should have. For mains: the bone in filet was so tasty and cooked to a perfect medium rare. I'm usually a ribeye guy, but since they are known for the filet, I had to get it. The steak is served a la carte with no sauces or anything but the steak speaks for itself. The lobster was massive and tasty. It doesn't come with butter so we asked for a side which was a must. For drinks, the cocktails we got were delicious. The blood orange margarita was so tasty, and the q-ball was delightful, would order both again. We ended up spending $300+, so it's not a spot we'd come often but good for a once in a while type thing. If you are looking for the experience, but don't want to spend a ton, I think going for their $55 prefix menu is the way to go. You get your choice of a select appetizer, main, mashed potato, creamy spinach and a gelato, which is going to be filling. Best steak I've ever had, by a long shot! The closest comparison that I have, is that "other" iconic steak house located down Van Ness that specializes in just one thing. Bobo's is the opposite, and they specialize in a few different cuts of meat. Overall, I was pretty blown away with my bone-in ribeye steak. The smaller but tasty wedge salad was nice and a bit less traditional than past versions, the cheese and bacon hit the spot, and it was fine to split among two. The yellow tail carpaccio to start was also a highlight of the meal. Last, we enjoyed gelato with a delicious waffle crisp under it. I think this is one of the best steakhouses in SF. We came here to celebrate my graduation, and the staff was amazing. I had made a reservation a few months in advance and had to add more people multiple times, and Bobo's had no problem accommodating. I wasn't sure how long the ceremony would last, and when we showed up about 45 minutes early, they made space for us in the bar and started getting our table ready. They have beer, wine, and cocktails. They put us in a little room off of the main area and made sure we were comfortable. The staff came and checked on us constantly and new let our drinks get low. Our waitress recommended the crispy crab cakes and crab & spinach fondue to start, and both were amazing. The fondue is out of this world. We ordered a bunch of sides to share, my favorite was the Maui onion ring, and everyone got a steak. I had the filet mignon, and it was cooked to medium-rare perfection. All of the food was cooked perfectly and came out hot, which is hard to do with a group of 11. To finish, Bobo's brought out a special dessert that said "contracts," and we ordered a few others to share. I have been craving a juicy Filet Mignon and Bobo's did not disappoint. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out they had a pre fixed menu for $75 per person. It comes with a starter, Entree and Dessert. For a starter I got the Caesar Salad. It was very light and refreshing. For my Entree I got the Petite Filet Mignon 6 oz with Garlic Mashed Potato & Creamy Spinach. The filet was cooked perfectly and so juicy. Just was I wanted and was expecting. The mashed potatoes were also so fluffy, smooth and melt in your mouth. I'm not a huge fan of creamy spinach but this one was really good. I've been to Bobo's prior to my visit on May 17, 2025 and had no complaints. However, my last visit will surely be mine and my family's last visit to this restaurant. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the hostess (Mindy) had absolutely zero customer service. Our reservation was set for 6:30 and we arrived exactly at 6:30. Mindy informed us that they were running behind but will let us know when we can be seated. A few minutes later, we checked again and she told us that we cannot be seated unless our whole party was present. We had 3 of our 6 guests present while the other 3 guests were about 5 minutes behind us. My father had mentioned that all he wanted was to have a cocktail at his table while he waited for the rest of our family to get there. Throughout the night, we were given dirty looks by the waitstaff, Mindy and Kimmy. At one point, I had walked outside and both Mindy and Kimmy stared me down the whole time. We had Daniel as our server, who had a bit of an attitude when we were trying our $150 bottle of wine. Pressuring us to "hurry up" and decide if we liked it or not. My father went to make a complaint to the presumed owner after that and they did offer us complimentary sambuca and limoncello. Daniel became extremely nice and possible overly attentive after the complaint was made. Overall, the food was amazing. The steak tartare and the ribeye was perfect but when coupled with the terrible customer service and outright rudeness from the waitstaff, we will never come back to Bobo's. read more

No problem, we just stood there in the doorway waiting because it was raining outside. They sat us within 2 minutes. Our wait staff was much friendlier and attentive. Never heard of this place until I happened to come upon it by a delivery app and thought I would try it out while at the hospital. My dad was getting sick of hospital food and so, naturally who wouldn't be craving filet mignon? I don't generally care for filet mignon. And it just happened to be one of the most stormy wet rains we've had in a long time (buckets of rain!) and I started to have regrets that I may risk my safety driving in the heavy rain just for a $45 6oz piece of meat that didn't even come w any sides...until...I had a taste of this mighty piece of goodness! It was the most expensive piece of meat I've had. But, boy was it worth its value! It was absolutely phenomenal but it's not just because we only had an entire week of hospital/cafeteria food to compare it to. It was the best piece of filet mignon I have ever had in my life, in fact the best steak I've ever had. All I had was a hospital butter knife to cut thru this beauty but it was like cutting thru butter! It was tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked. I was surprised that the portion for a 6oz was larger than I expected and decent enough to share with my dad if you add sides. Some tips: 1. Be careful of leakage of the sauce. Unfortunately, I didn't secure the container back correctly after taking a pic and the sauce leaked thru the bag and I nearly lost the goods thru the bag that ripped thru the rain and sauce drenched bag. 2. Ask for extra sauce. Fortunately, I asked for extra steak sauce upon pick up and still got to add that to the filet. It's a delicious sauce that tastes like some kind of ginger blend (reminds me a little of the Benihana ginger sauce). Otherwise the filet is fairly tasteless. 3. Beware of the temperature you ask for. Medium is more like medium rare and was pretty bloody, though it did make the meat more tender. They have a very small and kind of tight parking lot. Helpful so that you don't have to find street parking. Has a bit of an aged red flare to the restaurant. I guess it's a good sign that they have been around for a long time. I would DEFINITELY try this place again. In fact, it was so good, I've been trying to reimagine the experience in my mouth even a week after enjoying my filet! First off, I really enjoy the unassuming concept: clown themed steakhouse. A very unlikely pair and not pretentious at all. Everything we had was so delicious! Highly recommend: - The ribeye: perfectly juicy and nicely seared - Mac n cheese: I haven't had a mac n cheese this good in awhile, could literally come back just for this - Molten lava cake - Vespar martini: most places don't know what this drink is (surprisingly) or how to make it. So we were glad that they did not hesitate on bringing this out. It is the BEST vespar martini in SF. We got the mashed potatoes, caesar salad, and moscow mule too which were good, but I'd want to try something different next time. Lastly, the service was phenomenal. This place is definitely one of me and my honey's favorite date night places to go to! All the food is amazing and I like that there is parking available. I love the dim lighting, it definitely gives romantic vibes. Service is very fast and making reservations is very easy. Last night I dined here with my partner and we had an incredible meal in a private booth with a curtain and the option to close it for more privacy (love that). Everything was on point from the service to the food. My only gripe (and not even enough to remove a star) was that I originally ordered the angel hair crab lasagna. It sounded amazing and was supposed to come with a cream sauce, basil, & tomatoes with no mention of red peppers in the description. When it arrived and we had our first bites, all I could taste was red pepper. I don't hate red pepper but it was the most overpowering flavor in the dish, so much so that I asked to see the menu again thinking I must have overlooked this detail. I had not overlooked it there was just no mention of it in the description so I was disappointed as it literally tasted like red pepper bisque + pasta and crab. No worries, my server said he would share the feedback with the kitchen (and I hope he does so they update the menu description) and I opted to have the branzino instead which was INCREDIBLE! We also had the mussel skillet and yellowtail carpaccio (amazing!) and my partner got the bone in ribeye which was absolutely delicious!
