Bobo's is great. Almost every time I've been in there Steve Sheehan (the owner) has helped us and is extremely knowledgable with both Ski equipment AND patio furniture. Our kids have also gotten winter leases from Bobos for equipment and have been happy. I purchase a Thule 'box' for my vehicle here and was very pleased. If you get here at the right times (end of season, labor day) you can really find some sweet deals on skis and snowboards and other accessories. The patio furniture here is very much more upscale than what you'll find at your local Home Depot or even the competition down the street but it's beautiful well-made stuff. We'll be back! read more

I bought my first pair of boots from Bobo's last year. Halfway through this season the lacing system was ripping out of the boot. I didn't have my receipt but the staff at Bobo's pulled my transaction from close to two years ago and Fernando got me a warranty refund. Absolutely terrible women's section. Very little size variation and very gender annoying selections. Why does every jacket either have a fur hood or is bright pink?? No women boarders I know would wear any of the clothes in that section. I walked in prepared to spend up to $1k on a new outfit and left with not one purchase. I went here to rent some skis for a day & i have to say im pretty disappointed with the service here. While on the mountain I fell & one of my skis completely flew off along with part of the boot. I still had the inside boot on my foot, but the part of the boot which attaches to the ski was still secured to the ski that had flown off. We tried shoving the inside boot back into the boot that secures to the ski & could not. Because of this we walked down half a mountain & ended our day of skiing early. When i came to return the skis my boyfriend made it clear to the women at the front desk that we had a issue that needed to be addressed. Which she replied to with extreme rudeness. Her tone was immediately annoyed and mean & she told us to talk to a rental boy. When we talked to them they told us it wasnt possible and tried to force the inner boot back into the other boot, which they failed to do. We expressed how displeased we were as this has never ever happened before and no one seemed to care. This is very upsetting as people can get very hurt if this continues to happen with other boots. The short: come here for ski/board rentals! First off, the hours listed on Yelp are wrong. They open at 8, not 9. The night before, our group arrived in Reno and had decided that we would go with our plans to head to Mt. Rose, as trails were groomed, roads were clear and weather was good! So, I called Bobos asking about their hours and if they could fit our group of 9. Yes, they said! So, the next morning, we all headed to their store, filled out the initial form, followed the arrows on the ground, and waited our turn. Then, they took our shoe size measurements, had us stand next to a height pole, fixed the positioning on the boards and the boot alignment for the skis, took a copy of our payment, paid the daily rental fee of $25, and off we went! Later in the evening, we returned our stuff to their bin (which performed very well - the only complaint I heard was one of the guy's boots were a bit tight because they gave him a women's boot since they ran out of the men's size), received our form copies and copy of the card, and we were done! The staff were very casual, fun, and helpful. In the second half of their store, they offer apparel, equipment, ski and snow gear, basically anything you need for the trip to the outdoors! Tip: For rentals, return by 6 of the day it's due or by 10 the next morning. The verdict: Next time I'm in Reno, I'll definitely be renting my gear from Bobos! read more

Every time I go here I get treated like I know absolutely nothing about what I'm talking about. Let me make this clear, I KNOW what I'm talking about when it comes to snow sports. Every male employee I've dealt with is very sexist, after I explain what I do, and feel like I have to prove to them that I know what I'm talking about they still treat me like dirt. Left fuming and angry every time. It's 2018, why are your employees treating woman athletes like they're less then them? We're not. Unless you're new to the sport don't even think about going here. I went there to merely have my bindings adjusted. The man politely explained to me that my bindings are outdated and no longer considered safe, and they would not be allowed to adjust them. So I inquired as to approximately how much new bindings would cost, and he escorted me over to the salesman, who looked at my skis and said, "Bindings for THAT?!" I like my skis. I don't feel like I should have to buy a new pair of skis and bindings every time I want to go skiing. I don't need to be degraded by some rude, underage salesperson. If they wanted to sell me new skis they should at least be nice to their customers and not condescending. I had to leave immediately. It was very insulting. read more

I'm not sure why or how my particular incident happened at BOBOs... I'm an expert snowboarder who had a voucher for a free wax/tune up from a local merchant group so I went to BOBOs 2 weeks ago for the first time. All went well, they even happened to get the board back to me the same day! I should have known something was wrong the moment I TRIED to get on the lift at Mt. Rose.... The board simply would not MOVE. I thought it was just sticky snow at the base and somehow got on the lift. When I put my board down to get off the lift I did I 360 as it stuck to the snow. It was very dangerous and not funny. The lift had to be stopped momentarily. I made the best of it (I think a beginner would have been very badly hurt) and hopped over to put on my rear binding. Then it took my about 45 minutes to try to find the steepest (open) area of the hill to descend. Even at that - the board would only go a few feet. I finally had to just unbind and walk the last 1/4 of the run.... Because I know how to properly wax my own board (but decided to try something new this time) at the bottom I went to the board shop, asked for some "Goo Gone" - or wax remover, put some on a few paper towels and REMOVED all of whatever BOBOs put on my board. Local shop at Mt. Rose was awesome by the way - no charge and patient with a guy who just went through what I did. Had a few beers at the lodge to calm down and then had a heck of a day with a fast unwaxed board. I'm not sure if this was some kind of dangerous joke or just a huge error but - whatever it was - YOU DON'T WANT TO GO THROUGH WHAT I DID! I'm not going back there, obviously. I just hope this review may be sufficient to alter their bizarre or foolish behavior. read more

Okay, the shop itself is fine. They have a large inventory of the latest skis and snowboards. Most of the staff is fine, as I find most of them very knowledgeable and friendly. The pricing is MSRP, so unless there's a sale, you're going to pay full retail. My primary complaint, and one I've been hearing a lot from a few other people locally, is whenever I come across the store manager, Pat, I ALWAYS get the distinct impression that I am not wanted in the store. He is the least friendly and professional store employee I've met in a long, long time. This has been an issue for me for many years, and it's bad enough that I only go into the shop when I cannot find what I'm looking for anywhere else, which is almost never. I simply chalked it up to his having a personal problem with me. I've been hearing similar treatment from several other people I work with, so I have recently discovered that this is not an isolated thing. I don't know if Pat is still there, since I haven't been to Bobo's in a few years, but if he is, I'd avoid him and try to get help from someone who actually appreciates his customers. read more

These guys go way above and beyond. I needed to rent skis for a two day trip to Tahoe. I told them that I was coming back to Reno after Bobo's closed Sunday and would be flying out early Monday morning. Phillip offered to meet me Sunday night to grab the skis. Didn't come to buy apparel, but the service, selection and price were just right. Picked up a very hard to find short waisted ski pant and face mask. Last Sunday Edgar was beyond helpful and truly took the time to not only assist me with choosing my new snowboard boots but spent time educating me how to properly put them on! It has been many years since I've had to purchase new gear and he is extremely knowledgeable and patient. He put 2 boots on hold for me and I came back 45 minutes before closing. I still took forever to make my choice and I know we were cutting it close with the store doors locking up but he still didn't rush me. He kindly let me know I needed to decide so that we could custom heat mold them or just choose the other boots and be on my way. Went there at 7pm after they closed their shop - but the rental dept was so kind as to obliged us with service. We needed to keep our skiis for another day - no problem- a phone call was all they needed, even though the rental dept did not return my call as they were swarmed with Christmas skiers. I did not know why that shop was so crowded on 12/26 evening - but found out why quickly. My daughter had boots that they sprayed with anti fungal and it was a little wet. A tall, skinny, pretty lady with uniquely combed dark hair gave us excellent care and made sure that we were happy. I've rarely been treated so well by a shop - much less a ski rental. I'm giving all of my business to Bobo's!! ps. chatted with one of the personnel and found out that he once tried out for the Olympics. Wild prices, not a great selection unless you are actually buying skis or boards. If you are looking for outerwear, goggles, or any ski accessory sporting good stores are your best bet. Patio furniture here is ridiculously over priced too. Like $1000 for a very regular bench. People with too much many shop here for patio furniture, because for similar quality they could go to Costco or SAMs club. Or for similar prices they can have something custom built for their patio. Great, welcoming shop with good prices. I went in to get a new board and maybe new boots and bindings and was not looking forward to it because as a beginner/intermediate rider I was not even entirely sure what I was looking for. I did some "research" before hand but it still is a bit overwhelming. That's where Taylor comes in. This guy made this whole process actually tons of fun. He would extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and offered tons of suggestions. Never pushy, offering various products at different price ranges. He had recommendations from tons of feedback from other customers along with personal experience; and I'm just extremely satisfied with my purchases. I honestly was considering only getting a new board and swapping out my current bindings but the whole process for new gear was a breeze. He mounted the new bindings on with specific regard to the boots I was just fitted for. Even adjusting the bindings again when things weren't quite perfect. He even gave it a free wax right there, within minutes. All this, mind you, when the shop was beyond busy on a holiday weekend. This guy juggled everything with ease, was extremely courteous and patient, and was extremely helpful. I'll definitely be back, and hopefully the days that Taylor is in! read more

First off, it's a great shop with tons of selection in stock. Prices are fantastic and in line with the major Ski/Snowboard online stores. But this review isn't as much about the store as it is about Theo. We had just flown in from Orange County, CA on a trip to Squaw and looking to buy my kids new full snowboard packages as well as new boots for my wife. Theo spent well over an hour recommending and fitting my 4 and 6 year old with all their gear and answering all the questions we had. Never did he rush us, or sway us to pay for something we didn't want. We were looking to keep within a certain budget, and he went above and beyond making it happen by recommending some sale items and gear that fit our criteria. All this while my kids were causing a ruckus playing with the skis and the little board on a roller. Mind you, this is in the middle of a very busy season and the place was packed with other customers. His patience and knowledge made the overall process very stress free and also feel we came out with some awesome gear! So I've decided to learn to snowboard and I've found myself at Bobo's twice in the last week. Both times they were my last stop after checking out some other local options. The first time I went in to get snowboard boots and I was lucky enough to have Tosha help me. She was AMAZING! Answered all of my questions with the utmost of patience and let me try on a ton of boots until I had my Cinderella moment. The next trip was after a day of checking out Snowboard prices. I started at Arbor up in Truckee (those people are legit!) and once again found myself at Bobo's. I checked out the new boards but I have a problem paying $300-500 for something I am going to learn on. So we hit up the rack with last year's boards and do you know what the awesome sales chick found? An Arbor board from last season! So I got the board I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. Then, of course, I had to get bindings and I went with Ride based on her recommendation. She was cool enough to put the bindings on for me (with my boots in them) and wax the board so I am ready to go. The customer service in Bobo's is seriously top notch.
