While waiting the owner or manager sat personal friends at an open table that could have been given to one of 4 others on the wait list. We were on a roadtrip when we found ourselves in Pittsburgh at about 7 am on a Sunday. After sitting in an abandoned parking lot and searching for diners within the area which were open and decently priced, we found this place. Fortunately for us, this place was located within 5 miles of where we were. We walked in and took a seat in this pretty busy diner. The friendly waitress came by, took our orders, and we had our food very fast. For how busy they were, I was amazed with how efficient they were. I also liked how quickly the waitress came over to refill our cups. My avocado toast with an over easy egg for $6.50 was perfect, my coffee for $2.50 was piping hot, and my fiancees nutella french toast was very good too. The strangers on either side got some heavy breakfasts, and their food came quick too. The payment process was pretty easy too. If I find myself in Pittsburgh, I would definitely come here again. Just good breakfast. Simple as that. Bob's Diner was relatively busy for a Sunday morning, but that didn't stress our waitress! She kept us informed and let us know when she was serving us and when she was coming back. She even provided us larger cups to hold more coffee, smart move! Food came out quick, hot and with sizable portions. The hashbrowns were crispy, well seasoned. The pancake was fluffy and the size of the entire plate. Paying for our bill was a different story, we didn't know we needed to pay inside, so we spent awhile waiting for our money to be collected. It had been years since I been to Bob's. Our waitress was friendly & prompt. I got the classic eggs, bacon, hash browns. Bacon was cooked perfectly & so were eggs. My husband had the avocado toast which he says was so tasty with the sun dried tomatoes on top. Great service, good food for the value. read more

A great diner option in Pittsburgh. Great service and great food! Most recently we had the french toast & home fries (both delicious) and the dad's favorite breakfast which consisted of one large pancake, toast, home fries, sausage and eggs. I asked for the eggs to be cooked over medium and they came out perfectly. I also had turkey sausage instead of regular sausage and it was delicious. The prices seem a bit steep for a diner, but overall the food was great and we will be returning again! read more

Awesome place! I finally got to try it out because I slipped to my boyfriend that they have stuffed French toast (his favorite). I got Bob's Breakfast - everything was seasoned and cooked well & I loved the option of buttered rye toast on the side. I also loved that I could get grilled hot sausage as my protein- it was delicious! The potatoes could use a bit more seasoning, but all in all a good meal! My boyfriend was doing backflips over his breakfast. He got the strawberry French toast and didn't speak to me the entire time - he hardly took breaths. He said it was one of the best he's ever had. I really like that they have a large variety of dishes, even some that are for the health conscious which I can appreciate & will try out next time. I use to frequent Bob's Diner in Carnegie but after last weekends visit and the fact that my issue wasn't even acknowledged this week with a reply email, I won't be going back. Here is the email sent last week: Hello, Just wanted to share my unpleasant experience at Bob's Diner Carnegie. Let's clear the air here, I understand the short staffing issue, I'm not in restaurant management nor I am trying to tell you how to run a restaurant. I came into the restaurant by my choice. Waited 10 minutes to be seated and probably another 10 minutes to place my drink and food order. I don't think my order was special, a double dad's with all bacon. During that time a couple was seated next to me and they placed their food order. Then three people were seated across from me, not sure when they placed their food order. While waiting, all you heard was waitresses picking up food orders saying they were supposed to have this or that, something was wrong or were is my toast etc. very disheartening. The couple next to me received their food wrong, supposed to be scrambled eggs received over easy eggs. The three people across from me received their food, a dad's, pancakes and bacon/eggs, I only know this because the waitress called out the food on the plates. Well the couple next to me ate their food and my order still wasn't out. So I went up to the counter and inquired about my food and was told by the waitress staff "we are trying to figure out what is going on in the kitcken also." Their was visibly several waitresses waiting for food. I offered to pay for my drink and leave a tip for the waitress, the food coming out is not her fault, she does prepare it. I was told to just go. Waited for food for 1:15 minutes. I hope there is a resolution to this problem soon, I usually eat here every Sunday and have had a long waiting time for food order. Talking with patrons at the restaurant and neighbors I am not the only one experiencing extended waiting times. read more

We came in with low expectations, but left with a full stomach and a full heart. Diane was a phenomenal waitress - truly the GOAT of Bob's Diner. No glass at our table was ever dry, and the food came out QUICK. We walked in with 17 people and they were quickly able to accommodate us and provide an astounding experience. The portions were HUGE and delicious. The nachos are incredibly cheesy. I ordered the Strawberry Stuffed French Toast and it truly was the best thing on the menu. We have been here a few times, and while the food still isn't quite as good as the Painter's Run location, my wife and I really enjoy it. The atmosphere is always busy and provides plenty of people watching. I ordered an omelet with swiss, ham, mushroom and tomato, and it was a lot greasier than usual, but still good. My wife always orders poached eggs, well done, and for some reason they always come out runny. This time, they were perfect. Also, it's worth mentioning that Bob's is one of the few diners in the area that offers fruit, as a side and a fruit plate. The plate is huge, enough for two people, at least. And it's freshly cut. If you want a local greasy breakfast diner, you'd be hard pressed to find a better spot than Bob's. read more

After a year of eating at Bob's for a quick breakfast or lunch every now and then, it finally happened--I got a massive case of food poisoning. I've had terrible wrenching stomach pain, chills, aches, and a fever for the past 2 days. This was the only meal I could identify that would cause it. Both my husband and daughter ate all the same meals with me for the past week, except this one. They're both well and I am incredibly sick. Bob's always had that greasy spoon sort of vibe, but they never made me sick before. Like every other restaurant, they struggle to hire enough people to run everything. I think that resulted in my current predicament. I had the mixed grill breakfast with coffee and rye toast. I suspect some cross-contamination happened in the preparation. I'm sad we lost a nice convenient spot close to our home, but they're obviously struggling with preparation and sanitation. read more

It being Memorial Day most of the restaurant options that we wanted to go to wear clothes unless we arrived at Bob's Diner. I ordered a turkey sandwich with cheddar my wife ordered the eggs benedict and our daughter ordered the chicken tenders with fries. The sandwich itself was good however the fries were mediocre-at-best I tasted some of my wife's food and the potatoes were not good nor was the eggs benedict my daughter's chicken tenders were okay but then again they are chicken tenders. Service was pretty good prices were good as well however I 3 star rating means I'll be back and I would not go back to this particular location thus it gets two stars. read more

After driving 17 hours and deciding to get my kids out of the car:, One of them being carsick. We were seated and visited the restrooms. Came back and noticed there were hairs/fibers floating in my drink. Mentioned to our waitress(Brooke) that I have sensory issues and wouldn't be able to drink it and immediately was met with attitude. She made a huge spectacle about having rinsed out my cup, then she switched and said she had changed my cup completely. Every time she approached the table after I was met with attitude and just a general disgruntled demeanor Upon paying the cashier(do not know her name but she was wearing a walking cast) snatched the card out of my hand. Did not make eye contact, didn't say anything. Over all service was absolutely trash, attitudes repulsive and food was mediocre. I'd have rather finished the last 4 hours of our drive with a kid puking in my car had I known this was how our morning was going to go. Happy Easter though. read more

Next time I eat here - I will wear sweat pants... This will be a breakfast destination when I want to over indulge (or I went out the night before). I like breakfast and they serve a good one :-). I chose to sit at the counter (due to there were no open tables) and felt sorry for the waitress. The diner was so crowded (due to the good service / food) that the servers had to orchestrate Cirque du Soliel movements behind the counter with large platters of food. The food was very good and as Leah mentioned earlier (at a reasonable price). I will be back! Food - $8 Service - Great - The waitress was friendly even though she was busy. I finally got to eat here and it was absolutely delicious! My husband and I joined friends for dinner Monday night. Our waitress was friendly and not over bearing. Our dinners were all delicious! (Between all of us, we ordered a Reuben with onion rings, a chop steak dinner with mashed potatoes & veggies, and 2 pot roast specials.) The only reason for 4 stars is that for 4 of us it was really pricey for a diner. With tip, we spent just over $100. I will definitely return though and try something else on their extensive menu. Stopped @ Bobs Diner for breakfast. The food wasn't bad but really wasn't that good either. Pretty basic diner food, nothing special. The eggs Benedict didn't have a lot of flavor, the pancake was chewy & the egg sandwich was kind of greasy. Wasn't the worst diner food I've had however isn't worth going back. We found Bob's Diner out of sheer luck when we were in Pittsburgh for a hockey tournament. We drove 6 hours from NY the night before and could not wait to eat breakfast. The hotel however did not inform us that breakfast was OVER at 9am ( on a Saturday? ). Putting in google we found Bob's and fell in love! Sylvia and her daughters and rest of the family are AMAZING people. You can immediately taste the love that goes I to the food....and speaking of food.....We had 13 people with us and no matter what the food item was that was ordered, everyone had the same thing to say..DELICIOUS! Hands down the best breakfast I've ever had outside of NY. From the hashbrowns to eggs to sausage to biscuits to avocado toast () to the bacon dippers...you CANNOT go wrong. Food is ok, but portion sizes keep getting smaller and smaller and prices keep going up and up. Every time I go in more of the prices on the menu are marked up with a black marker. I Understand the cost of doing business. This is a neighborhood diner that used to be a friendly "family" diner. The "new" (inherited it) owner is trying to make this a Fancy restaurant and it is not nor will it ever be! The staff had always been friendly and now it seems to be a "hurry up and finish eating and get out of here oh and by the way leave a tip" diner. No more "friendly" atmosphere. Servers who had been waiting on me for YEARS are now appearing to be disgusted with everything! Now according to a sign on the window they will no longer be doing their loyalty program and "so sad too bad" if you don't have the number of points to get a "reward" you loose what you have! REALLY! You would think that they would at least try to find a way to let the customer "cash in" their points maybe in a gift card, oh but that's probably tooooo much work for the owner to handle. 2 of their sites have closed because of supposedly COVID. If so then make the other 2 better places to have customers come to! read more

We got our drinks and the server said she'd be right back for our orders. 20 minutes goes by and I finally ask another server if we could get waited on. Our waitress finally comes back - takes our order and we wait another 20 or more minutes for breakfast food! Yes... they were busy, but when tables around you are eating within 10 minutes of sitting down... well something wasn't right. We get our food and my husbands mixed grill wasn't even hot. The shredded cheese wouldn't even melt when stirred up! I asked for extra butter when our meals were delivered - 1/2 way through the meal, she asked if she gave me that butter?!?!
