This place fricken rocks. I came in here on one of the worst days of my life. I just got let go from my job, my girlfriend left me, and my dog has been missing for weeks. I met Martha and Anna, two servers there, and they completely set the tone for Riley's Pour House. First off, the ambiance of the place was incredible. The service was absolutely phenomenal. I never had an empty glass and was constantly checked up on. But what made me forget about all the troubles and hardships going on in my life was the friendly atmosphere. Specifically with Martha and Anna. They were very conservative and kept me in high spirits. It felt like I was here for 20 minutes but I ended up being here for 5 hours. They were just really a delight to be around. Also - the appetizers were phenomenal. We ordered some chicken strips and cheese sticks. My girlfriend and I stopped here for a Lenten meal. They have two indoor seating areas. One is the main dining room where they had an Irish singer entertaining. The other is seating near the bar area in the next room. They have a decent selection of Lenten items so we both decided to go with the Irish fish and chips. I asked our waitress concerning the portion sizes and she told me they are all cut the same size. She advised we go with the 2 portion size as opposed to the 3 portion size since they are quite filling. The fish and chips comes with a side of choice. In my case I went with the tossed salad. My friend had coleslaw. The fish and chips are served pub style with both tartar and cocktail sauces. My salad was very fresh. the fish was very good and they do give you a lot of fries. I was glad we both settled with the two pieces because I was really stuffed after that. Service and both friendly and very helpful. They have an outdoor garden seating area but with our visit being on a rainy day, that was definitely out of the question. Yelp Review #400! My wife and I went to Riley's for their Sunday Brunch Buffet (adults are $15.99 per person). We arrived around 10:00 AM and were promptly seated in the back covered patio area. It was pretty warm back there. We were quickly greeted by our waitress and both of us opted for the buffet instead of ordering from the menu. Breakfast items, eggs were really good, the bacon was fantastic and crispy, the sausage links were good, I wish the home fries had onions or peppers (but were good), pancakes were excellent, and the biscuits were full of taste. Lunch item, Salisbury steak was good, meatballs were good, and the boneless wings were ok (I didn't see any sauces to put on them). My wife enjoyed several of the above items as well as the shepherds pie and Mac and cheese. Overall the food is really good, service was very good, and everyone we encountered seemed very friendly. I felt the price point was very fair as well. On-street parking wasn't much of a hassle either. Rileys definitely seems like a fun Irish place, and we will definitely return to try some Irish fare. I had an early dinner here the other day and it was pretty good. Our server Izzy was great and friendly. I had a pumpkin beer and the turkey sandwich special with bacon, lettuce, tomato, and fried onions with sweet potatoes fries and ranch and he had a bacon ranch chicken wrap. We ended splitting our sandwiches with each other because the ranch wrap had a weird sauce on it that was definitely ranch- it was like a tangy teriyaki-like sauce that I don't remember the menu saying it had. So we have been a Riley's patron for years. Yesterday will be the last time. My wife asked the server what beers they had that weren't IPA's, the chick actually rolled her eyes and went into this robot voice and recited the entire beer list. We always get the same thing, the fish and chips. They were known as having the best in the city. What came out to our table was sad. Tasted like it was left in the warmer, and then dunked back into the fryer. The portion size was always huge, not so anymore. Think filet o' fish sized. Extra tartar...sure, for $.50. Seriously, you are going to charge me that price for a tablespoon full? Sat there the entire meal with an empty drink glass. We were the only people inside. Never got a refill until we got the check. Time to pay, I see that the price of the fish has jumped $2 more. Oh, you want to pay with a card? That's an extra $1 to use a card. I get it, cost has gone up, and I don't mind paying more when your supplies cost more, but don't insult me by tacking on fees every chance you get. I'm surprised I didn't need to pay to use the toilet also. So if you want overpriced reduced portions, served to you by a waitstaff who would rather be anywhere but at the restaurant, choose Riley's. I want to love Riley's. I really do. Everyone else does, and it makes me feel bad that I just can't get into it at all. What could be so bad about a cute neighborhood pub? Let's start with drinks. There's no pricing on the drink board, which always leads to some eyebrow-raising surprises. At a local neighborhood bar, you might think a local craft draft from a nearby brewery would be somewhere in the $6-7 range. Nope. I haven't had a non-domestic beer there for less than $8. Last time, we got a pilsner and a cider - both $8. Neither were "fancy" or "special" beers - they just weren't standard domestics. And before you say "Inflation!", this isn't a recent development - one time last year (before the inflation craze really kicked in), I ordered an IPA that was $9. I just feel that if you're going to charge that much higher than the standard in the region, you should probably make your pricing more transparent. OK, that's annoying but not the worst. What about the food? Unfortunately, it all kind of tastes like it was just delivered from a mass food service provider like Sodexo or Parkhurst. Now granted, I haven't tried their Irish specialties, and I definitely want to, because the fish did look delicious. But the breakfast just felt like all frozen food heated up in the microwave/oven and served. Same with the chicken sandwich and fries. Now let's talk about prices. They really do charge for every little thing. Want a side of ranch for your fries? That'll be $1.50 please. And there's a $1 fee for credit card transactions now, which I understand, but it's still an added cost to the consumer. Last time we went, we had two beers and one half order of fries with a side of ranch, and the total was around $25. As for the atmosphere? It's usually cacophonous and crowded. They usually have a band playing, which would be a nice touch, but the speakers are always blasting, making it hard to even hear yourself think in the enclosed space let alone talk with others. And the overall vibe is kinda divey - not in a bad way, just moreso a casual service way. There's the pleather tablecloths, numbers at each table after you place an order, sticky menus, and drinks served in plasticware rather than glassware. The ambiance is cheap, but the prices are not. So yeah. This may be my neighborhood bar, and despite trying it out again every few months, I really just can't deal with it. I've heard about this place for years but never knew where it was located. One day while in Carnegie I had noticed the place and said oh that's where it's located. We were headed to the Steelers Sunday night game and felt like it was a great place to stop and enjoy food and drinks before the game. The place was great. It was slower, so we received prompt service. Had the pickle fries which were good. I filled up on it too much. Bourbon Wrap was very good. I'm sorry, guys. I know I'm supposed to adore Riley's, especially as a local, but...meh? Riley's is certainly a fun place for a night out if you're looking for a hopping location. They have limited indoor bar/pub style seating, with the majority of chairs and tables being set up outside (not to worry though - in the winter the outdoor seating is covered). The music and live shows are quite good, and often draw in a full house of diners as a result. In addition to sometimes stopping by to hear my favorite local groups, I actually get to hear snippets of all the performances if I'm home. That's because they're usually loud enough that the noise just floats over to my apartment (not to the point I can't tune it out, though). Given that I can hear the crowds several blocks away, I admittedly often avoid coming to Riley's on weekends. That sort of volume isn't really my style. As for the food and drink options...I mean, they're ok. The drinks are never mixed as neatly or strongly as I'd like, unfortunately, but they're cheap and sometimes that's all you need. I've had the wings several times, and those are always tasty. I liked the Shanty salad when I sampled it (picture a Pittsburgh style salad with steak), and their sandwiches make for a reasonable lunch or dinner option. Really, the menu is basically made up of decent bar food options. Which is fine, but since the business brags about being an Irish pub, I admittedly wouldn't mind more in the way of authentic food. By the way, on that note - when one of your summer special options is a Po'Boy (which I ordered, by the way, just because it was a funny offering)...you're not an Irish pub. You're a Pittsburgh bar. So yeah - Riley's is a perfectly OK place to visit for some affordable and decent food and drinks. Their performance line-up is also 100% worth checking out. Personally, I'd like to see them either embrace their bar identity, or make a few changes to support their Irish bar status. But as they are, I like them just fine - I just don't LOVE them the way people expect me too. read more

Three years ago this would have been a five stars review without any doubt. But, since the new owner took over in 2019, I have watched changes taking place here that make me think that I might need to find someplace else to go in Carnegie. The food is usually good enough (depending on what you order and how busy they are) but the atmosphere and the way the owner views his customers is so NOT Irish. This place is about making money and not about serving the legacy of the bar or "keeping the torch lit" as it says in the bar. I was in there yesterday to get some fish and chips, which are quite good, and I look forward to them every time I am in Carnegie for a show. Yesterday was "halfway to St. Patrick's Day" and there was going to be a party at Riley's later on. But, it was 2 PM and the place was dead with maybe 30 people and a mediocre musician playing guitar. Five bucks cover per person. Okay, I just want lunch. But, it's halfway to St. Patrick's Day, they tell me. Fine. I'll pay for the bad guitarist because I like this place and the food is good. I ask if I can go in the bar because I don't want to be in the very loud garage with the bad music. I'm told that I can, but it's a limited menu and there's no table service because... it's (you guessed it) Halfway to St. Patrick's Day. Fine, says I. I usually sit at the bar anyway... except there are no barstools because it's halfway to St Patrick's Day. Jesus Christ! Really? Okay. So, we order drinks at the bar that has no stools and I order food. They bring us nitro beer in plastic cups because it's halfway to St. Patrick's Day and we can't be trusted with glass for reasons that are only clear to the owner. Okay... it's fine. I'm not amused but whatever. Then, my fish and chips arrive... in a to-go container with packets of ketchup and malt vinegar and plastic utensils. Because... it's Halfway to St. Patrick's Day and we are only doing takeout. Mind you, there were thirty people in the place. I resent paying $57 with tip for takeout. If I wanted to eat out of styrofoam, I would have gone to Long John Silver's! Oh, and my daughter's shot was served in plastic too. Then, they tried to charge me extra for the mediocre tartar sauce that I didn't receive. I was shocked that it wasn't in packets. On a side note, I was last at Riley's in March and they weren't giving patrons silverware then. Everyone was getting plasticware. The coffee is always in styrofoam cups and brunch is served on paper plates. At the time, I didn't think about it too hard. If you eat in the garage, I can see not wanting glass out there... but, this is about the owner not wanting to hire a dishwasher or not wanting to pay to buy real dishes. The credit card surcharge will pay for either in a busy weekend. And, based on other's comments about the surcharge for using a credit card or a debit card, I think I will need to look at my receipt because nobody said anything to me about a credit card surcharge. Update: there's a dollar added to everyone who uses a card. They don't tell you. That's not okay. The horrible green led lights in the bar belong in a frat house; not in a pub. And, the two things in the small bar that made it so special was the tiny stage and the real piano. The tiny stage used to have real Irish music before this new owner took over. Now, it's used for storage and it looks tacky and cheap. The piano is sitting silent. The server told my daughter it's "broken" and that's why it's collecting dust. In reality, the new owner doesn't care about the small pub. He just wants to make as much money as he can and bleed Riley's dry so he can retire and leave the shell for the next owner, if there's anything left to pass. The servers try their best but the owner cares so little about his patrons that they just shrug and offer to "cash you out" if you complain... and then they avoid you rather than trying to make you happy. It's a shame. I used to love this pub. I'm sure I won't be back until the torch is passed again. read more

Met a friend here for a pre-dinner drink/app. He had several different beers and I had the wine. It was served in a plastic cup. We got a bite to eat. Great place I'm sure at St Patty's. We had lunch early. Food was excellent, a bit pricey compared to other pubs. Guinness was in a plastic cup/glass . That's sacrilegious. We came here for fish fry and happy hour with some coworkers and out of town guests. It was my first time but it seemed to be a very popular place - assuming with locals in Carnegie. The indoor bar and seating area was pretty small and the bartenders inside were sort of inattentive - we had to wait a while just to get our tab and move outside. The outdoor tented area had a very cool vibe and was where we spent most of our visit. It was so popular that we had to snag a table as soon as someone got up - 10 minutes of standing waiting around. The wait proved worth it - the waitresses were super attentive. We had the fish and fish sandwiches and many beers at our big table. The happy hour had $1 off beers. The fish was about $13 including fries and cole slaw. The fish was super large and enough for two people. Well worth the price but next time I will share with someone. The live bands added a super nice touch to this bar outdoor area and they even sang happy birthday to my friend later in the evening. What happened. I used to come here every month or so for a great local pub dinner. Came tonight and really had the worst dining experience in YEARS. First we sat down and placed our order. 45 minutes later it comes out. We ordered the fish and chips and Irish chicken. The brought out the fish but subbed the chicken with Mac and cheese. The sever said to keep it and that the chicken would come soon. The Mac and cheese was inedible. I don't know what kind of cheese it was but it tasted like plastic. The fish was small and extremely over cooked. It was like eating the gristle off the bottom of a dried out fryer. Didn't really have any fish in it at all. After another 45 minutes the chicken came. Recently I went to Riley's Pour house with family for the Weekend Brunch. The menu itself lacks for breakfast, but the buffet was perfect. The food on the buffet was wonderful,, everything from sausage gravy and biscuits to shepherds pie. The brunch included soups, and desserts as well. The food was all cooked perfectly and everything tasted so good! The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score was the service itself was slow. The server didn't really explain the full buffet options, so when I asked if they had any bread in the back to have a slice of toast, they then explained that there was toast and egg service with the buffet but had to order that with the waitress. The only other complaint was that the coffee was served in stryofoam cups, including grinds in the coffee. Seems pretty wasteful to me when they could easily get coffee cups for their customers. Overall I would recommend trying this place out for Saturday or Sunday Brunch, and while I didn't try their dinner foods, if they are any indication of the quality I wouldn't hesitate to eat there. read more

We don't go often because the food is so inconsistent. Ended up here because the Ukranian festival ran out of food. I ordered a side salad, the lettuce wasn't crisp at all, floppy and soggy. It was great to see a half of Reuben on the menu since there was no way I could eat a whole one. I wasn't offered to see the check, the waitress told me the total & I paid by credit card on her handheld machine. I did opt for a printed receipt and to my surprise I was charged 1.00 card processing fee. Processing credit cards are a cost of doing business. Once I seen the receipt the charge for 6 wings was 8.95. On the menu they are listed at MP which is fine due to the crazy cost of wings the past few years but I buy wings by the case and charging this much for 6 wings is just crazy considering the cost has come down over 50% less right now. Let's also not forget we were charged 1.50 for a side of ranch for the wings. That's a new one to me, usually ranch or blue cheese is included with a 8.95 cost for 6 wings. Really more like 3.5 Overall, we had an enjoyable experience. The place has a restaurant/indoor side (that looks exactly like you'd picture an Irish pub) and outdoor enclosed patio seating. The night we were there, the only seating option was the patio. It was also karaoke night (average age of those doing karaoke was around 65). I wasn't prepared for bad karaoke so it took a bit away from our experience. You do need to enter the restaurant half to go to the bathroom (which was small but clean). The menu was a mix of bar food and classic Irish dishes. A highlight for us was the Reuben egg rolls. The price was a bit high for what you got, but they were delicious. Perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with meat sauerkraut with a thousand island dipping sauce. For our entrees My daughter had the Shepard's pie. The gravy had a great flavor, but hers was a bit dry. We ordered one to go for my son and his wasn't quite as dry. Not sure why. My husband had the Reuben. He said it was good but he was expecting it to be better (and the bread was a little soggy). I had the wings and they were cooked to perfection (I like mine crispy) but as a Buffalonian it's still weird to me that so many places charge for blue cheese and celery. My buddies and I love watching football here, last 2 times we've went the server goes "ready for the checks", the first time it was around 930 on a Thursday, on their site it's open till midnight, it was also nfl season opener so we were a bit confused but we understood. Went back the other day, I'm driving and we all get food so all my buddy's were planning to drink for the 4pm games, after our first round they asked if we wanted the check, my buddy's asked for another round, and after the second round they asked if we were ready for the check again. Basically we've been forced out of there twice the last 2 times we've been there and have never caused a problem there. Treat yourself to big, flaky, piping hot fish with the perfect amount of breading, either the smaller 2-piece portion, or choose 3 pieces for extra deliciousness. This fish reminds me of the fish and chips at that castle in Scotland where the Harry Potter broomstick flight school was filmed in the first movie. Now having been to Riley's twice definitely will be going back. Enjoyed the bands/music both times and the music gives the place a great vibe. First time just went for drinks and the band. Second time went for dinner with my wife. I had fish and chips excellent fish! My wife had the shepherds pie also excellent. She stated that is what she will have every time we go back. I've come here a few times in the past but recently when I came in the summer and this past weekend, it has just missed the mark for me. They have your average beer and drink menu. The food has been pretty lackluster when we had a burger fries and wings during our most recent trips. It's also so hot inside unless you sit inside you will have to go home and shower again. My water was even melting all over the table. I thought trying it out again during the fall would be different but it wasn't, it was still crazy hot inside. Service is always friendly and polite they do an amazing job! I think the menu could use some new updates and the restaurant itself could be a bit more comfortable AC wise. They have bands that play which is fun and music has always been good but it's just not how I remember it in the past unfortunately. read more
