This place sucks! From the minute we walked in we were treated rudely. We were told to find a seat and then we're "scolded" for sitting at a dirty table, even though it was the only one available. After that, the waitress had it out for us. Another waitress took our order but the bitchy waitress must have got rid of it because our order never came. Waited a good 30 minutes and then when we asked our waitress to check on our order, the nasty one smirked in our direction. It was obvious she was to blame. We just got up and left. The cook yelled, "Have a nice day!" very sarcastically so most of the staff were a-holes. The good news is, we drove a little farther and ended up at the Vermont Country Store in Weston, VT and ate there at Mildred's Grill, which had absolutely delicious food and we were happy we didn't waste our time or money at Bob's Diner! read more

Stopped by on our way out of town after a weekend of skiing, on Sunday and the place was packed. We called the order in, and it was ready in 10 minutes! All packaged with all of the utensils- best pancakes with small containers of real maple syrup (of course in Vermont but for take out it was a great surprise), bacon egg an cheese bagel sandwich - comes with home fries so be prepared for a monster breakfast meal! This is one of those places that looks cool and retro on the outside and is a certified dump on the inside. It has that dirty diner feel along with nasty bathrooms and that chip on your shoulder service. I have to admit, the food was pretty good though; great pancakes, skillets and omelets; but the nastiness of the place and the attitude just took it downhill for me. Some points to note: they take credit cards and serve alcohol. All in all, given the location and lack of other food options, if you need a quick fix, you'll likely get a decent meal. Bob's is a solid 4 stars, well worth the half-hour drive if you're in Bennington. I've had the corned beef hash twice, and the Beefalo Burger once. Although the first hash trip was a bit better than the second, it's still the best corned beef hash I've ever had. So good, in fact, on the first try I didn't even add hot sauce! On the second trip, they offered some hollandaise sauce with the corned beef hash, which was pretty good, but the sauce was much thicker than a quality home-made hollandaise should be. The Beffalo Burger (I got mine as a single-patty Whopper-Beefalo Burger) hit the spot the other day, when I was in Manchester and had a quality-burger craving. The employees are kind and hospitable, and seem to enjoy one another and the customers. I'll definitely be back. read more

We came here for breakfast Columbus day weekend, and had a long half-hour wait. Something told me to stick around, and I am glad that I did. The waitress was fast, and efficient, and the food was great. My husband, who is picky about his omelets said that the one he had here was the best he ever had. Same for the coffee. Although they were packed to the gills, with lots of folks waiting outside, we never felt rushed, or that the food was in any way compromised. We were so impressed that we came back for dinner. We should have quit while we were ahead. The beefalo burger was very good, but small. The small portion of fries was very good. My husband had the meatloaf and was unimpressed. He's not a big gravy fan, so I dipped my fries in it, and found it to be one of the best I've ever had. They make it with marsala wine. I also had the butternut squash bisque, which I wasn't charged for because the waitress forgot about it. She did bring it while I was half-way through my meal. But alas, it was much too sweet for my taste. If you eat here on a sunny day, try not to sit near the front windows, as you will bake. That was the only down side I found. We will definitely only eat here when we visit Southern Vermont in the future. But only for breakfast. read more

I've been to Bob's when on motorcycle trips in the area. It's never been empty but we never had to wait to be seated. My fav is the Carol's Club sandwich (turkey, avocado), and an icy cold beer! Come as you are.. The staff will assure your comfort. read more

Better than average diner, definitely worth stopping for. Chilli is a standout. I never get chili out because it's never really good enough to stand out... This was. We also had burgers- if you get bacon or sauteed toppings, be prepared for it to be greasy. Bacon and fries were soft, but otherwise, very good. If I were to go again, I'd ask for both of those done crispy. The service was pretty decent, although not perfect. For one thing, if I'm going to be paying a buck-fifty extra for two extra toppings on a burger, I'd prefer you let me know, when that detail doesn't appear to be printed anywhere that I could see. Otherwise, good service, proactive about getting things to keep the kids occupied while we were waiting. read more

The egg portions are plentiful and the pancakes, whether blueberry, chocolate chip or plain, are delish. They charge extra for maple syrup, which is annoying in Vermont, but even so the prices overall are reasonable. You can sit right down and get down to brass tacks with the 1 dollar PBR's and a round of steaks for you and your friends. The steaks are just the right size, smothered with some kind of cheese, gorgonzola? Bleu? I don't really remember, but I do remember that they were hella good! So good in fact that we had to roll through again the next day for lunch for another round of steaks. This place is the perfect stopover to do a little dinner before making the short walk over to the Perfect Wife for some evening beverages. There is a great waitress there, don't know her name, but she is beautiful. My buddy really creeped her out one time I think but we don't remember how, either way, she is still nice to us and remembers us every year. I hope she is still there this year. So this is not a traditional Diner for New England, but it is close. If you are in this particular area, this is a great place to go. The food is good quality and very tasty. I had a Corned beef hash bene and the Holindase was different, creamy and wonderful. The rest of the food ordered at the table was very, very good. The prices are a bit on the high side for a diner, but very affordable given the alternatives of the area.
