It was a chilly, wet morning. We faced 6 more hours driving home. We were hungry. The parking lot was muddy. Inside was warm and dry. And loud, like a good diner should be. The kitchen was buzzing. One of us ordered something not on the menu, but the kitchen was able to do it easily. Another had eggs Benedict-- not sure that's what I'd order at a diner, but it's what she wanted. Another had a stack of pancakes. I had the Jean Green (or is it Green Jean?) Skillet and couldn't quite finish it. The coffee cups stayed filled. It felt a little pricey, but workers need to live. The food was delicious. You can't go wrong getting 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, and 2 sausages for 10 bucks. I got chocolate chip pancakes so it was a little pricier but totally worth it. Some of the best pancakes I've had. My girlfriend got the southwest skillet which was incredible. There's a decent amount of restaurants that have breakfast skillets, but this one was above the rest; the ham and peppers were cooked to perfection, and the potatoes were thinly sliced and perfect. The food did take a little while which is strange for a diner, but they probably take a little more time to make everything from scratch or something because it's soooo delicious. The staff are friendly and upbeat, often greeting customers they know by name and checking in on how they're doing. As someone not from this town, I still felt cared for and included. Went here with my mom and got the stuffed french toast. It came out quickly and it was delicious! The place had a very classic diner feel, complete with friendly servers and barstools by the counter. It was very quiet for lunch time, but this is probably not a busy week because of all the local flooding. Definitely a good brunch spot if you're driving through the area. read more

Typical retro 50s diner that is a shining presence in Manchester. Once inside we were greeted by a friendly host who showed us to our table. Our waitress was fantastic and made sure we all had what we wanted. The menu was not the typical plastic encyclopedia of food but offered s good variety of items. My BLT was great and the fries were crisp and hot. My family had pancakes with chocolate chips and waffles all with real Vermont Maple syrup. I've passed by Bob's Diner on Routes 11/30, just east of US Route 7 numerous times, but have not stopped in since I've always had to be someplace each time on a schedule. I finally decided to stop at Bob's Diner for lunch, not to be confused with another Bob's Diner, a popular 24-7 greasy spoon located 55 miles away in Watervliet, NY. The atmosphere here is that of a retro 50s style diner with some Vermont flair inside. The outside of the diner is shiny stainless steel. Take a look at your reflection on the exterior of the diner as you enter, and you've been transformed into an Oompa Loompa. The inside of the diner is cozy with tile floors, lunch counter seating (stools), and several tables and booths. There's a shiny jukebox (plays CDs, with music from back in the day and 2K with several Now CDs in the mix) and some mini jukeboxes at select booths and at the counter. The menu offerings include the typical classic American diner fare including standard breakfast dishes (served anytime), soups, chili, salads, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, seafood, diner classics (meatloaf, stroganoff, turkey dinner, black angus sirloin steaks, mac & cheese, & pasta dishes), and desserts (pies, ice cream sundaes). A kids menu is offered. Beer and wine served here including Pabst Blue Ribbon Pints for only $1.00. The beefalo burgers are locally raised from Mount Brook Farm in Dorset. The prices are pretty fair, most items under $10 except for sirloin ($11-$15). I was in the mood for pasta, so I ordered the Chicken Tuscany ($9.95): penne pasta sauteed with tomatoes, capers, onions, mushrooms, & grilled chicken, served in a marsala sauce. The food arrived piping hot in under 10 minutes. I did find a small hair along the side of the casserole dish, not in the food though. The Chicken Tuscany was a decent dish, which had very al dente penne pasta with fresh ingredients and tender chicken pieces. The overall taste was on the bitter side, very heavy on the marsala wine sauce. Some bread or a roll would've been a nice accompaniment with this pasta dish. The service was friendly and efficient with refills on the ice water and the check was presented promptly after I passed on the offer for dessert. I was headed out for ice cream later on in the day with friends. Back on the road again and on my way to NY, driving on some dirt roads along the way, getting a little mud on the tires. read more

If you want more alternative, local, amped up comfort food- this just won't do. There are excellent breakfast spots peppering this area that I love. But this is a fair second option. I have two eggs over easy w toast home fries & no turkey sausage or bacon w avocado & salsa on the side & shared the banana bread French toast, had to ask for real maple syrup here in VT, the combination was soooo good! Bob's Diner has some of the best diner food I've ever had (and I'm from NJ, so I know my diners). The staff is LOVELY, and very efficient. We went at a peak hour (Sunday morning), and only had to wait about 10 minutes. I ordered the mixed berry pancakes with Vermont maple syrup (of course). I was very happy - the pancakes were very fluffy and massive. My husband ordered the Farmer Bob skillet and loved it. Apparently this is one of the most popular dishes. He thought the flavors (cheese, egg, sausage, and potatoes) were perfect. I really cannot emphasize how much we appreciated the staff - I don't usually expect much from diners, but the service here was really excellent. I definitely recommend stopping by! read more

This was a great place to stop for breakfast. Big crowd, but they were prepared for it and knew how to move people through, even during COVID. I had the pancakes and eggs with a side of bacon. The bacon was okay. I don't think I needed to get it and in retrospect I should have gotten the corned beef hash. The eggs were scrambled and perfectly fluffy, which was amazing. The pancakes looked burnt, but I swear they weren't. They were just fluffy and delicious, and under a healthy pour of sweet Vermont Maple syrup they were phenomenal. Love, love, love Bob's skillets. You can also get eggs any way you want them. There is almost always a line, so go at off-times if you want to be seated quickly. It's tough for groups bigger than 5 - it can get tight, but it's worth it. Breakfast sandwiches are also always right on target. Service is always excellent and with a smile. Food is really great and exactly what you would expect from a good diner. You can see that the "Bob's" in the "Bob's Diner" sign is a bit different than the "Diner." That's because it used to be the "Best Diner" sign and they just replaced "Best" with "Bob's" and didn't get the match exactly right. Good diner/spot right outside of town. Nice because they had indoor and outdoor dining options. We were outside--there were 4 picnic tables with umbrellas (big enough to seat 8 comfortably). And 2 diner tables that had umbrellas and fit 2-tops each. The menu is simple, which I like because diners can over extend and get out of hand trying to do too many things. Breakfast and lunch focused (we came on a summer day at around one). Most of the basics for breakfast and lunch and a few veggie/vegan options too! We got the green jean skillet (AWESOME, huge portion, and a lighter dish with all of the veggies), and the beach pancakes which were phenomenal. I'd definitely swing by if you're rolling through town or staying locally and looking for late and very good breakfast and lunch options! Wonderful! We stopped in for a quick lunch. On a diner scale, the food is definitely 5 star. Ambiance is strictly local diner. I started with a cup of some of the best soup I've had in a long time. Chicken spinach mushroom. Definitely buy some if it is on the menu when you visit. My dining partner had a California club sandwich -- lettuce, tomato, avocado and melted cheese. Wonderful and huge! Not your typical diner, yes they have the eggs sausage and toast breakfast but they also have delicious skillet fried potatoes topped with eggs, veggies, cheese etc. and served in a cast iron skillet. They also have great vegetarian selections including a delicious grain bowl. My daughter goes to school nearby and eats here just about every weekend she is there and even when we are visiting and picking up the tab she still wants to go here. Her tip btw is that they have waffles even though they are not on the menu - secret menu!!!! I also appreciate that they are consistently open, many places close in the off season and we happened to be up there on Easter weekend and this was one of the only places open. They also offer frozen meals from time to time to grab and go like lasagna - a great option to get out of cooking for breakfast AND dinner! read more

Bob's diner is an old fashioned unassuming casual spot for a quick bite but it was phenomenal. The coffee was good and plentiful. For breakfast I got a combo which included pancakes, eggs, and meat of some sort. The pancakes were fabulous and while I could have gotten. A fun flavor like cinnamon bun I am a bit of a purist and went with the regular which were perfect. Bob's indulged my penchant for cheesy eggs which were delicious. Oh and the meat situation brought me great joy. Turkey sausage and regular sausage were available as links and patties. What else would anyone need?
