I stopped here for a late breakfast with my wife. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in, coffee was quick and hot. My wife ordered egg sandwich with xtra crispy bacon and hash browns xcrispy. I ordered two eggs over easy, hash browns and sausage patties. The food was ready in less than 5 minutes and everything was cooked perfectly. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. I will stop here again if I'm in the area. Nice sized portions - service is good, if you're a local. I visited this spot with my husband last fall and we enjoyed a nice meal with generous leftovers. The sever was adequate and so we decided last month to take my parents & cousin for lunch. Upon arrival during the lunch hour, we entered and there was a young man greeter. When we asked him to sit at the tables near the window, he told us that he had cleaned it and was not seating anyone there. We noticed quite the mess on the floor under the tables, and it clearly did not appear clean even though the tables were reset. Instead he setup 2 adjoining booths (which was less comfortable for the older folks in our party) and told us those were are seats. My cousin and mother asked for salads except they were told that there wasn't much lettuce left and they made alternate selections. There seemed to be regulars at the establishment who received friendly smiles and warm welcomes to their booths, while the atmosphere felt cooler toward our party. It's a nice spot (in a pinch) and you won't leave hungry. However, the dimly lit ambiance and lack of attention to provide outstanding service won't land this spot at the top of our "must visit" list. read more

We went for breakfast on a Saturday morning, luckily it was not busy, and we were seated right away. Waitress was so friendly and attentive, making sure everyone was taken care of and topping up coffee, talking to the regulars. Exactly the type of service you want at a diner. I had the hot stuff omelet; hubby got the Irish benedict. Food came out super quick, hot and fresh. The hot sauce on my omelet was really good and I am going to assume the benedict was good because he polished off the plate. Portion size was perfect for me, and prices were reasonable. Figured we would go to the register and wait so as to free up the table. The hostess was nasty and rude when she was advised we hadn't gotten the check. She stated, "you're not going to get it standing here. You need to go back and wait". I advised she didn't need to be rude with which she replied "Don't like service, you don't have to come back. Came to Rochester to visit family and stayed near bob's diner. Before retiring to DC we stopped by to grab breakfast. Came around 830, no wait but almost every table was taken. First impressions is that they staff is friendly and the restaurant is clean. My spouse got the Irish Benedict which is a weekend only dish and I got a breakfast sandwich with hash browns. If you like the ambiance of older diners and an affordable breakfast to boot, Bob's is your place. It's one of those places where things have been the same for years and you either love it or hate it. In my case, I'm a sucker for anything nostalgic and there's something to be said about diners. This is a breakfast and lunch type of place, but breakfast is available all day and is an excellent choice. I started with one of the omelets, and for an extra $3 I added on home fries. Most places these days, you can't get the omelet for less than what I paid for at Bob's. Even with adding on the home fries it was still cheaper than anything else I've paid recently. Luckily, the food was completely worth it. I had no cause for complaints. Good service, solid food, and in a perfect juxtaposition of old and new, free wifi with the password right on the front of the menu. It's time for Bob's Diner to get some attention. You might think that it would be a bad idea to get more people going to a long time hole in the wall, but not in this case. Even when it says "please wait to be seated", you never wait for very long. Visited on a Sunday afternoon while in town for a busy college weekend-I was a bit surprised at the closing time, I believe it was 3:00, but we arrived around 1:30 so we were good. Diner was busy, but we were greeted and seated right away. Restaurant had older decor, but the place was clean. Waitress introduced herself and got us drinks right away, then we ordered our food. I got a hamburger with fries, we split onion rings, and my guest ordered a couple of hot dogs. Food was served quickly, and everything was good. Overall, a good value for the money, and a quick and easy experience. The only strange part was that all employees were wearing masks-No other restaurant I visited in Rochester over the past few weeks had their employees in masks-I'm wondering if this is because the clientele, for the most part, was a little older. In the quaintest little strip mall in Henrietta, just a short, peaceful stroll down the lane from the DMV... "Everything about this place says 'no,' but the food says 'yes'" - a damn genius (a.k.a Dave). This is what a diner looks like. The menu is straight up sweets, savories, and sandwiches. I overheard a patron asking if he could order an egg Benedict, and the waitress shot him down. Go to some fancy hipster joint if you can't handle the nitty gritty of a real breakfast! Bob's Sandwich: a rye bread breakfast sandwich. No sides. Sides are for suckers. The menu description does not do the sandwich justice. It does a good job of articulating the material ingredients, but leaves off the important details (namely, the butter-infused, grilled rye bread that tastes better than any rye bread you've ever had - or will ever have again). Breakfast sandwich with shred potatoes. The cheese was "just melted enough," or possibly "not over-melted." I can't remember the exact phrasing. Lordy, I wish there were tapes. Ambiance: The coffee bar comprises a lonely coffee maker. Some think the ceiling is "too 70's." Such people are unaware of the proto-Indo European root "kan-," meaning "to sing," which evolved into the Latin canere and carmen ("song, verse, enchantment, religious formula") and thence into the Old French charme and, finally, into the Modern English "charm," meaning a small item worn to avert evil, the third most massive of all quarks, or, here, having a pleasing quality or an irresistible power to please and attract. I live down the road from Bob's Diner and when I went years ago, I learned exactly what to expect here. Nothing was high-quality and the service was fair at best, but I had some decent lunches. It wasn't good enough to draw me back frequently, but it was acceptable enough that I'd stop in periodically. After being away for a while, I decided to stop back in and it's now worse than ever. The interior continues to be dated, but now the ceiling is riddled with water damage with stained tiles and rusted bars holding them up. The service and food are now mediocre at best. The cheesesteak is on par with what I made 30 years ago as a teenager using cheap steak-ums from the grocery store. When I asked the server if the fries were crinkle fries or flat fries, she said, "I don't know" and had no interest in finding out, so I passed on those. And when I asked if they had any type of vegetable, the answer was a blunt NO. It's as if the folks who run and work at this place hate the restaurant business. This just might be a good candidate for Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen Nightmares." As for me, I won't be back anytime soon but pray that the place gets its act together one day. read more

A surprising treat of a diner in Henrietta located in the same plaza as the DMV. It was a convenient stop for breakfast when I was in the area and prepping for an afternoon of errands. They have breakfast all day (hooray!) and a variety of lunch and dinner options too. It's mostly booth seating with a counter in the back. The breakfast is my diner pick -- corned beef hash, the classic breakfast with toast and sausage, and especially a good ol' breakfast sandwich with a soft roll, melty American cheese, eggs, and bacon. My husband and I popped in here for a quick dinner while doing laundry next door. Bob's definitely has the homestyle diner feel as soon as you walk in the door. Our waitress took our orders promptly and our food was delivered quickly. The fried chicken was PERFECT! Light and crispy breading, with juicy flavorful chicken. Their gravy is so good I could eat it with a spoon! Their homemade bbq sauce that is served with their chicken fingers is delicious as well. The food was excellent, the prices are very reasonable, the elderly hostess and waitress were some of the nicest I've ever met. They have the best cottage cheese I've ever had in a restaurant - don't know where they got it, but it was the bomb. The grilled chicken breast on Kaiser roll was delicious. Heard the servers chirp the cooks about a dish that didn't turn out right - that should be done out of earshot of the customers out of respect for the cooks that are bringing in business. I worked in the food industry and I know how taxing it can be, but the overall morale was low and it left us feeling off about the whole place. The waitresses, cooks, and bussers have character, and are friendly. Come a few times and you'll know each others' names. Casual conversations are wont to arise.
