What a find...Hot, homemade food with great service and neighborhood feel! Couldn't ask for anything more from a local cafe! Thank you!

We came here twice on a 4 day visit, and would probably return if/when we come back to Rochester. It's a pretty standard diner, good breakfast, fast service, and non-stop coffee refills. There is someone just circling constantly with a pot. This is a cash only establishment, so be advised. There is an ATM. We did go at slightly off peak times, since we weren't working those days, but at those times, the restaurant seems to be a favorite of retired men, which is a good sign for a diner! They have a set menu and a specials board that I think changes daily. There's 2 full pages of breakfast, and at least 2 pages of lunch, plus the board. I'm sure you'll find something you like. I had the same thing both visits - a cheese omelet with hashbrowns and wheat toast. It was really cheesy, and I liked that it was a 2 egg omelet rather than 3, for me it was just the right size. We also split a piece of the rotating coffee cake, cinnamon walnut that day, and it was good - not too sweet, plenty of cinnamon. The guy had their 2-2-2 combo and was happy with that choice. For both of us, breakfast ran about $35, for 2 entrees and coffee, plus the cake. read more

Food is very mid. I tried a frittata and on second visit an omelette. Both were lacking in taste and presentation is lousy too. The waitress was friendly and it is very cheap. This place was meh at best. 1. The N.Y. strip steak was supposedly N.Y. strip... it was the steakums I buy at the grocery store. Usually when I order N.Y. strip i get it at the diner I usually frequent (happened to be closed today). 2. Waitress doesn't smile once... the line cooks were happier than the waitress. 3. Cinnamon French toast was above sub-par. 4. Cost and value do not match. I only came here once before and said I'd never come back. Wanted to give them one more try. CASH ONLY This spot used to be in North Winton Village but has since moved to Main Street. I'd known about it for a while but never made it in glad we finally did. It's primarily a breakfast place, but they serve lunch too. We came in for lunch. You can seat yourself, and service is pleasant and efficient. Specials are listed on the TV in the restaurant. I had the Turkey Club--tasty, generous portion, and I added fries for a small extra charge (no big deal). My husband had the corned beef sandwich; he said it was good and exactly what he expected it was good, but not great. I'd come back to try breakfast, though I imagine weekends are busy. My only gripe: I wish the check showed the total. You pay up front, and I felt awkward not knowing the amount I even went back to leave more tip. This place is our go to spot for Special breakfasts. When family comes to town. Friends who want wonderful local food, with locals. I save them for Special times, because they stay very busy, and always make it the table hot and delicious. But, they stay busy which is awesome! So prepare to wait. At least on the weekends. The portions were large, but the food didn't have a lot of flavor and didn't stand out to me. I would eat here again, but it wouldn't be my first choice. Had a fantastic lunch on a perfect snow day. The staff made the lunch that much better and the food was fantastic. When asked for a recommendation - our server confidently answered and his matter of fact response was enough to go on. Get the chicken club. Jim's on Main is a small (but not cramped) diner on East Main Street. I was running errands around downtown and was craving a grilled cheese, and decided to stop in. I had heard good things about Jim's and embarrassingly had never been there as a lifelong Rochestarian. There's no real parking here, or at least not during construction on what looked like might be their parking lot. There are maybe two street spots that were occupied when I went there. I took my chances and parked in the Blackfriars Theater lot since I'm a season ticket holder and thought maybe they wouldn't mind? I feel like someone had told me before they were cash only, but I of course forgot. There is an ATM right as you walk in with a $2.25 fee. My grilled cheese and side salad to go were ready super quickly. Servers were friendly and this would have been a nice place to sit and eat lunch had I had more time. There is even a wifi password but I forgot to write it down. I'd tell you to give it a try, but if you live in Rochester, you probably already have! read more

So the last time I came here which was about 3-4 years ago, the food, not going to lie was very subpar. I left dissatisfied but didn't make a post on Yelp because I hate leaving bad reviews and the only time I do so is when the staff are rude but that wasn't the case with Jim's. Now, this time I came there with my dad and we had breakfast for his birthday. The food, was amazing, cooked well, seasoned super well, and the pancakes this time were nice and fluffy. I don't know, maybe they hired new cooks but like got damn that food was good I scrapped up my plate haha! The service was good, the team members treated us very nice, and the restaurant is always full. Make sure if you want to get a table get in there an hour or so after they open because they stay packed. read more

Cute brunch spot. Came here on a Sunday afternoon. Luckily it was just two of us because it was pretty busy when we arrived around 12! Don't forget they are cash only! They have nice variety in their breakfast and lunch menu. I got the late riser and upgraded my toast for cinnamon Texas French toast. My boyfriend tried their Elena burger. Ever since I moved to Rochester in 2017, the one restaurant/diner with consistent quality, quantity and price is this one! This family owned diner is full of life. Every staff member is always smiling and giving you their best service. Me and my friends have been here and tried a number of dishes including but not limited to eggs Benedict, frittatas, omelette, sandwich, french toast and pancakes. We loved them all. The only dish I did not enjoy was their chicken salad sandwich. The chicken salad, unfortunately, didn't taste fresh. So, I ensure I order only the hot dishes. I visited this place recently after two years and was surprised to discover that pandemic didn't affect their prices at all. It costs the same as it used to. I really wish they accept cards though. My family and I were on a roadtrip and upon googling Jim's on Main, we decided to dine here for breakfast. We were glad we did. The food here were affordably priced and delicious. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, Steak and Eggs, French Toast and the Micky pancake. My kids gobbled them up before we can take a pic: they both finished their plates which is astounding. The only downside was that the Hollandaise sauce wasn't properly mixed; they haven't properly emulsified so the butter and eggs split, tasting more of the butter than a yummy sauce. The potatoes weren't also fully cut/cooked so they were almost crunchy. My partner ordered the Steak and Eggs, steak cooked rare but when he got it, it was almost medium. I don't like crowded places but i figured there must be a reason all of these ppl are here. Service was fast and friendly and even though it was very busy, I didn't feel rushed to order or to eat. !!! PLEASE READ AND BE AWARE !!! I don't like leaving bad reviews ever but I simply cannot ignore this. Upon eating my food, I watched the cook run his face and hair excessively and then proceed to touch food without gloves or washing hands. I work in a kitchen and was very distraught by this lack of serve safe knowledge displayed, especially when you work in an open kitchen. I tried to brush it off since I had already ordered and enjoyed my food, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. I got a sandwich to go and upon taking one bite at home, found one of the dudes hairs in my food and almost threw up. Would love to chalk it up to he was tired or having a bad day, but watching him not pay any mind to what he had just done did not sit right with me and leaves me to believe he does this regularly. I hadn't been to Jim's in a few years, much less since they remolded it. And I must say I was impressed. I've always enjoyed it there. And the waitress was a pro, a nice girl. Whenever I'm alone, I always sit at the counter, watch what's going on. I ordered my regular, scrambled and home fries with whole wheat and coffee. And they had a lot of potatoes cooking. And it was prompt. I wish the home fries were a bit hotter but they were good. And the cooks helper could have spent a bit more time buttering the toast. A bit skimpy. :( The place was extremely busy even early when I went. That's a good sign. And there were 3 men on the grill. The lead cook, the anchor, and the cooks helper.
