Now I really enjoy grease but this was just too much that it made me feel like gagging. I cannot get enough of this place! Better than all of the cheese steak places i've tried & cheaper!!! My wife always gets the small Mushroom steak with a side of Jalepenos, while i love there cheese steaks I'm currently stuck on the BBQ beef & cheddar sandwich. Got the cheese steak, comes with steak fries. I thought I saw curly fries, but that may be for the other locations. A little disappointed by that, because I went especially for curly fries. My original plan was too grab a burger at the fast food joint but then I see a person leaving the steak shop with two plastic bags full of togo containers! So now my attention is directed towards this small shop that sells Hoagie Steaks. Why not ya know....first thing I noticed walking in these guys are very good at what they do. While looking at the menu I notice several folks coming in to pick up their order. I thought to myself order small if they good come back order big...so I order a small cheesesteak I didn't know fries automatically come with the sammich. Those fries are delish steak fries. Yum the sandwich was very good. The grill guys worked like a well oiled machine working the grill taking fresh steak and chopping it up. The meat was very fresh and I wish I had ordered the large. So a friend of mine recommended this place to me after I said that I couldn't find a decent cheesesteak in the bay area. He swore by this place so I was intrigued. I paid them a visit the very next day. Ordered a mushroom onion cheesesteak and at $7 it was pretty reasonable. So the food came in 5 minutes and the first thing I noticed was the was a copious amount of meat. It was tasty but nothing special. The mushrooms and onions were alright but the bread and cheese seemed off to me. The steak fries were average (I'll eat it but I'm not crazy about it). The atmosphere is very casual. Boxes of beverages lined the walls. The tables and chars were bland. The service was pretty good. The staff was friendly and patiently waited for my friends to place an order and the food came in a reasonable amount of time. I love me some hoagy steak and this place is a diamond in the rough. Not only is it very close to where I live, its a filling and delicious meal. There's plenty of seating and parking shouldn't be a problem. Whats really bizarre is that you pay after you order/eat which is convenient for some people. The woman working the register was hella nice about everything and always had a kind word to say. I ordered the BBQ hoagy steak sandwich with american cheese and a basket of fries. I don't know why I crave BBQ so much but I can't help myself. They made my sandwich exactly how I wanted it and even brought me some BBQ to dip. The bread was crispy and golden brown and the steak was chopped and seasoned expertly with just the right amount of BBQ. If you have ever been to Philly and you know their cheesesteak is something you can't leave without then you know going to a new spot back in Cali is hard because you have higher expectations. I came here with my fiancé because I am pregnant and having major cravings. My fiancé recommended me to try the Mexican Philly Cheesesteak. It was pretty good although I wish they had wiz I thoroughly enjoyed it and it satisfied my cravings. We sat by the bar waiting for it to be cooked, it was cheesy, and spicy and it was good. I went here on a recommendation from a friend. As I first entered, I noticed that it wasn't the best looking restaurant, but there was a good selection of different hoagy sandwiched to choose from. I ordered the BBQ cheesesteak and fries. I was pleasantly surprised with the food I got. The portion was more than adequate to get me full and the wait wasn't too long. My boyfriend and I have been ordering cheese steaks here for years. More recently, we have converted to ordering there teriyaki chicken plate. It's not too bad, but I wish there was more marinade for the chicken. Unfortunately, they do not have teriyaki sauce on hand for your dipping pleasure. The cheese steaks are definitely mouthwatering. I was really excited to experience this place after I was told that it was the "Bay Area's BEST Cheese steak". Let's just say that much like the coffee place in Elf that the title is relative to the person eating said sandwich. I ordered a Mexican style Cheese Steak and it was OK: the meat wasn't seasoned at all and the mayo threw me off a little bit. The fries were just like the fries I can buy and make myself from Costco. The workers aren't chatty and while not hostile, neither were they welcoming and interested in the fact it was my first visit. They will take debit but not credit. My husband and I visited this place 2 times this week. I was craving cheese steak sandwiches and this place was on the way home from both of my doctor's appointments. Like most Yelpers have said, this place is in the ghetto and could use renovations. However, I came around 1:00pm both times and didn't see any sketchy people. Now on to the food! The first time we went, I got the Mushroom Cheese Steak Sandwich and my husband got the Mexican Hoagy Steak. I LOVED mine. I like how the meat wasn't too juicy so my bread was crunchy and not soggy. They also put a good amount of mushrooms in the sandwich which is a plus. That is why we came back again. My husband didn't like his as much despite all the ingredients in the sandwich. He told me that expected a party in his mouth, but he felt that it was bland. The peppers and jalapeños had no kick to them at all. I think maybe the ingredients might not have been as fresh by being out too long. On the second visit, we ordered our sandwiches to go. The guy said 10 minutes and it was ready in 10 minutes. The place was busy too. Both sandwiches were perfect and the fries weren't overcooked. For $7.35 you get a good sized sandwich with fries and a pickle. I am always craving cheese steak sandwiches. Had the mushroom cheesesteak and it was delicious! The bread was soft and it had a generous amount of cheesesteak and mushrooms. It comes with a small portion of unseasoned steak fries which are also yummy! Just add salt to taste. It also comes with a slice of pickle which adds the complete finishing touch to the entire meal. I'm giving 3 stars only because I liked the bread. My husband picked up the food and said they charge for everything, using your credit card, a bag, is this order to go, bell peppers, anything else you wanna add onto your one item cheesesteak. At least the Philly cheesesteak they give you more than one item included on your sandwich i.e. hot peppers, sweet peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach. I'd be careful going at night though, neighborhood isn't the best. I went one time at night and there were a ton of cop cars investigating a shooting that had happened in the center. Summary: Delicious meat, great bread, plenty of fries, and great jalapenos, too! I've never been to Philly, but I know what I like, and I love this place and their hoagy/cheesesteaks. I normally get their mushroom philly cheesesteak hoagy and my oh my, does it taste great. I love how they get these nice french rolls or buns that add to the experience, and are not just some after thought. There's a healthy amount of meat piled into the sandwich, and the peppers and onions and mushrooms make for a satisfied stomach. I am always tempted to buy another one for the road or to take home.
