The guys here are supper friendly and the service is always great. I order online and my food is ready when I get here. The dining area is huge and outdoor seating is also available. I've ordered the avocado toast, veggie sandwich, salmon burger w/ fries and falafel wrap in the past. But today I ordered the baja fish bowl. It's tasty and always consistent. It's got Spanish rice, citrus slaw, corn & black bean salsa and pico de gallo. The cod is perfectly fried w/ a spicy aioli sauce. So good. They offer a variety of dishes on their menu. I always come here for a quick lunch as their menu is very diverse and offers a wide variety of options. Service is quick and the food has never disappointed. This place was a nice surprise in the midst of an industrial business park. We needed to pack some sandwiches for a hike across the bay and chose Bay City Bistro because it's proximity to 92. We were sad to hear we were their first customers in two days. That being said they built my veggie sandwich to perfection. The carrots and cucumbers were nice and crunchy and there was a generous amount of avocado. It held together quite well for the few hours it sat in our backpack. VEGAN REVIEW: Obscure exterior, clean and contemporary interior. From the outside the small cafe looks like another white-walled business - sort of camouflaged among the similar-looking buildings. The inside is very clean and organized. The interior reminds me of a hotel cafe. There are fountain drinks, bottled juices and waters, packaged chips, cookies, and candy that can be purchased separately from the meal. Empty at 11AM on a Tuesday, but started filling up around the lunch hour: ~12pm. I had the falafel salad which was marked "vegan". It is the only vegan item on the menu. There are also 2 or 3 vegetarian menu items. I actually really liked the falafel salad - it came with sliced cherry tomatoes, pepperoncinis, and 3 small falafels sliced into fourths on a bed of romaine. It also came with a tahini dressing. The falafels had a really yummy flavor; they were slightly dry but fine with the tahini. Tomatoes were fresh but sparse as were the pepperoncinis. Overall, a good and satisfying meal for vegans. Creamy tahini was really good. Wish it didn't come so sparse. read more

This was probably one of the best BLTA croissant sandwiches I've ever had. The croissant was buttery and flakey. The bacon was crispy but not greasy. Besides the food selection there are numerous choices of drinks and snacks for a pick me up throughout the day. The owner David is extremely kind and caring as well. All of their food is OK, at best, and do not be deceived by the pictures on the website - what you get will look NOTHING like them. Their salads are all made exclusively with iceburg lettuce (even the asian chicken salad, typically made with cabbage...) and as few other toppings as they can get away with are added - you'll maybe get 3 cherry tomatoes and 2 slices of cucumber, and whatever protein the salad comes with (chicken, falafel, etc) for $10-12 dollars... yikes. Their grill items and sandwiches are a better bang for your buck, but still just OK. The people are nice enough, but clearly don't care about their food, which is sad considering that's literally all they sell. I went to Bay City Bistro today for the first time. My employer just moved to Hayward from Foster City so wanted to check it out since it's close by. I liked that the place is clean and smelled good. I found it a little strange how it is set up though as I noticed the soup keeping warm on the counter across from the register and, since I didn't see a sign, lifted the top to see what kind it was. The owner? or worker came up behind me and adjusted the cover as if he was irritated that I lifted it. He then told me what kind of soup it was. That was a bit off putting because if you don't want people to lift the cover then keep it behind the counter. I proceeded to look at the chalkboard menu and he recommended something from the grill so I ordered the Pepper Steak to go. I didn't notice until after I ordered that I had a choice of sides - fries, potato salad, or side salad. I asked for the side salad, but it seemed that they already dropped the fries in the frier. I said it was OK either way, even if I felt that I should have been offered the choice. However, he went back and lifted the fries and I got the side salad. I took my food back to my office and it was very tasty. Could have used a little more meat for the size roll used, but I won't complain because the bread was really good and fresh. The salad was larger than I expected and fresh, although next time I will order dressing on the side. Overall it was a good lunch which is why I give it four stars. Although, I didn't get a good vibe about the employees as they weren't overly friendly with me or another guy who came in after. There did also seem to be some friction between the guys in the front and the guys in the kitchen. That won't stop me from going back again though. read more

I would say this is an average sandwich shop with other hot plate lunch items. I have not had the chance to try the hot items but their sandwiches are okay. I'm a big believer in whole leaf lettuce for sandwiches- this place does not offer that so in my book it's a bit below ok. Everything else has been ok-good on their sandwiches. Mostly I come here if I am in the area and want a sandwich. I would say there has to be a better place locally but I have not had that chance to explore. read more

The commercial area that Bay City Bistro is located in is not a great lunch area. Bay City Bistro doesn't exactly add much to the selection. The detail Bay City Bistro has above all the rest is its interior. It's spacious, clean, and air conditioned. You won't feel greasy or find crumbs at tables. Plus they have a flat screen tv, unfortunately the volume is turned off. Attached to Bay City Bistro is a gym. It's no clear who owns this gym and if it's company employees only. The menu is composed of the typical hamburgers, salads, wraps, and sandwiches. They also have breakfast omelettes for but I'm not sure if they serve these all day. It looks like they're not serving hot entrees anymore because that portion of the menu is covered over. As long as you buy anything that's not cooked, you should be good. The sandwiches are packed with meat and are reasonable. I had some cooked chicken on my salad and it was drier than what the astronauts get. I still have a to experience the rest of the menu but it feels like the food is a mixed bag. At least they bring your food to your table. read more

Staffs are very nice there and food is not bad, but it certainly lack consistancy. I always order the Salmon Salad because the salmon was poached pretty well. But why is it that it's often missing avocado when the menu said it contains avocado? There were few times I ordered to go and I forgot to check, thus ended up without it. The other times when I do check, I just had to ask for it after I realize it has none. Also, why is my salmon always varies in size? Sometimes it's so big, sometimes it's like two bites worth. The first couple months when I ordered this salad, they gave me half an avocado, now it's down to 1/4 of it. Also, I try to remember to order my dressing on the side, but one time when I didn't, the salad was DRENCHED in the dressing. It was disgustingly soggy to the point the lettuce weren't even crisp anymore, and if I tilt the box sideway, access dressing would fall to the corner. Salad should be dressed, not drowned. It would be nice if the cook would start putting dressing on the side. Oh yeah, and the same day, they forgot my avocado again. That would be the fifth times. I would still go back for food since it's so convenient, but some uniformity would help. read more

This is a pretty good place, food is good and they are fast, but what I like the most are the people. Everyone here is super nice and interacts with you as if you are a person not just a customer getting food. Place is clean with plenty of space to sit. The only down fall is that they do close the grill little too early so if you come in at 2 you can't get any thing hot off the grill. Other than that, food is great and service is great :) read more

I've been coming here for lunch with coworkers for the last six months, probably 3 - 4 times per week. There aren't many places to eat in the area, so it's quite fortuitous that Bay City Bistro is so consistent in quality of food and service. The menu has some deli standards--salads and sandwiches--as well as some rotating specials, including kebabs, lasagna, tamales, and several other items. I'm partial to the pepper steak sandwich and the (massive) cobb salad, but I also recommend the turkey burger. The dining area has plenty of seating and isn't annoyingly loud. There is some outdoor seating as well, which is nice to have this time of year. With generous portions, reasonable prices, and a friendly staff, I don't plan on halting my regular visits anytime soon. read more
