I am strongly compelled to add my voice to the chorus of 1 star reviews on here. The generator in my toy hauler quit producing power, so I called Bob's and made an appointment. I got an appointment for a week later and dropped it off at 8am when they opened. When you walk in, there is a 6 foot high "Trump 2020 - No More Bullshit" flag hanging in the lobby. There is a huge Rottweiler in a semi-cage-looking thing that is tall in the middle (presumably so customers don't try to pet him) but on the sides it is only three feet high, so he could easily get out. He gives a low pitched, menacing growl at each new person that joins the line. As I stood in line listening to Bob treat the customer in front of me with a rude tone and disrespectful attitude, my gut instinct said, "just leave, this is not going to end well..." This will be the last time I don't listen to my gut. I dropped my keys with this rude gentleman and was told he would call me sometime today with his diagnosis. He did. He told me the circuit board needed to be replaced and his estimate was $700. He said it would take two days to get the part and he'd have me out by Friday afternoon. I told him to do it if he was sure it would fix the problem. He gruffly said, "I can't guarantee that this will fix it, but it is just the next step in the diagnosis." Feeling like I didn't have much of a choice if I wanted a working generator, I agreed. By now I was feeling really suspicious about this whole affair, so I looked up his Yelp reviews. Oh, man, I was sick to my stomach reading them. 17 one-star reviews out of 26, all long, heart-felt narratives about being royally screwed by a convicted felon. That's right, two of the reviews alluded to the fact that Robert Carl Sedlmayr is in fact listed on https://www.city-data.com/so/so-Gardnerville-Nevada.html as a Tier 3 sex offender. He must report to the authorities every three months for the rest of his life to have his recent photo taken so his community can keep track of him. Tier 3 is the worst of the tiers reserved for the most serious offenses. I simply could not believe what I was reading. How could this man stay in business? The answer is; all the transient break-downs that come through G-Ville on 395. He is the only option for this unending stream of hapless victims. The handful of good reviews he has gotten have come from folks who didn't know how ripped off they were getting and were just grateful that someone saved them from a tough spot. So now I'm sweating it out waiting for his call to say that the circuit board didn't fix it and we'd have to move on to replacing the stator for $2G. Fortunately, the circuit board did fix it and he said come and get it. Before I went, I looked up the cost of the circuit board online and found videos on how to replace it. The part ranges from $199 to $330 online and it is a 20 minute job to swap it out. Since all the other reviews talked about how he will add things to your repair that you did not request or authorize and double your bill, I was fully expecting him to do this to me as well. And sure enough, when I got there to settle up, he hands me a bill for $977.25 (see attached). He charged me $562.47 for the circuit board, and $258 dollars in labor for the 20 minute circuit board swap and an additional $69 in labor to replace my 30 amp cord plug which I did not request or authorize. So at $700, he was already raping me (pun intended) for double, but that wasn't good enough for him. He tried to triple it at $977.58. So I said, "Bob, I came here expecting to pay you $700 because that's what you told me it was going to be, even though I thought it sounded awfully high. You can't just arbitrarily charge me an extra $277.58 cuz ya feel like it. That's not how business works." So he says, "Fine, pay whatever you want." So I paid him the $700. This is definitely the first time that I've been charged double what I should have been, and actually felt lucky, like I dodged a bullet that could have been so much worse. Nope, the story isn't over yet. I had not quite received the full Bob treatment that everyone else talks about in their reviews. So I'm outside hooking my rig to the Suburban when he comes out and says, "I looked it up and you're right, I told you $700. But I also replaced your 30 amp plug. Now I'm going to eat that cost, but in the future you need to take your business elsewhere. I've been in business here for 25 years and I don't deal with people who don't trust my word. You see all these other coaches here? Most of these people don't even get quotes from me, they just trust me to fix it for them and they pay whatever that costs." Not wanting to engage in any further discussion with him, I said, "Fair enough", and away I went. I have finally learned my lesson about patronizing a business before reading the online reviews. I met the owner (Bob) ten years ago when I worked at a local business in Gardnerville which he visited occasionally. My boss would gab with Bob about cars since he was a car enthusiast, too, and Bob always seemed like a decent enough guy when he came in. I guess after having met him a few times, I thought he seemed trustworthy. Big mistake! *After writing this review, it was brought to my attention by a fellow Yelper (thank you) that the owner of this business, Robert "Bob" Seldmayr, is also a sex offender -- for assault to commit rape. It makes my skin crawl to think that I was completely unaware of this fact during our business interactions.* My car needed an oil change and I thought it would be better to take it to someone I knew rather than to just the Jiffy Lube down the street. I also was taught that it was better to give a little business to a small local shop rather than a big generic chain. (And, if he hadn't ended up screwing me over, I probably would have taken my future cars to him for the rest of the foreseeable future. It may not have been a ton of money, but aren't satisfied, repeat customers the goal in small business?) Little did I know that this person I *thought* was a decent guy would end up being a real jerk who likes to take advantage of young women (or whoever else he thinks he might be able to get a fast one by). I ended up walking out the door with a bill of well over $300 and all sorts of suggested repairs and replacements that he scared me into thinking were "necessary." Of course, the cost of these additional repairs wasn't mentioned when I was being told how many things I needed to have fixed on my car in order to keep it from just up and dying right in the middle of the highway. He made it sound dire and made me feel as though I'd nearly ruined my own car by not replacing all of these things long ago. I shouldn't have listened. I was shocked when I was presented with the invoice. I didn't know what to say; after all, I hadn't thought to really ask how much the stuff would all cost added up, and I had walked in there expecting to pay for an oil change. I ended up just coughing up the majority of my savings, not knowing what else to do. Later I showed the itemized invoice to my dad and to another male friend who are both "car guys." They both told me I got completely suckered. In retrospect, I wondered why my dad didn't actually go down there and have a little talk with Bob himself. (I think maybe Dad was trying to get me to learn an important life lesson there -- be careful, because some people will screw you over any way they can, even if they "seem" decent in the beginning.) I didn't really know better, and Bob could clearly see that and took advantage. Just so you know BOB is as crooked as they come and I years ago when I first moved here in 2001 made the huge MISTAKE of taking my vehicle there on several occasions before I learned the hard way...While at the time he had a very talented exhaust guy who was very honest Bob tried to make him cut corners and if I could use an explicitive word I would but he refused to and I witnessed Bob getting very upset with him...I never forgot his name either but furthermore he refused to order a custom part for my exhaust that I went to a competitor that he originally told me was not available but then was upset when I bought it from them...He then proceeded to charge me $830 for an non mandrel bent exhaust system that was worth less than half that after saying that he would use that type of pipe originally but it would cost more which for that price should have been but then came back with this if I had used mandrel it would have been thousands...Really! Ok so I gave him another shot at fixing a drive line on an awd car which was to replace center support bearings which at the time should have been easy to acquire and do....Well, after a wek I went over there and my car sat in the same place and he said "oh we are waiting on the part" another week went by same thing car never moved and it sat there 3rd week and I said I want my car back now and he said oh I got the part be ready tomorrow...It was $450 dollars and I took the car home..mind you i was only doing this on his recommendation when the exhaust was completed..well a year later I had an issue with the car that required me to take it to the dealer for a recalled transfer case and the dealer said that the center supports were going to need replacing soon but were ok for now and I told him they were replaced a year ago and went 10 years before that why are they needed now..he said what those were never replaced they were original...I happened to be reading reviews and thought i wonder what Bob's performance is doing these days....I decided to write this now because you know what this man has NO business being in business he is a CROOK pure and simple CROOK.... DON'T GET CHEATED BY THIS ASSHOLE SCUM!!!! I have a simple problem with my coach but the old guy at Bobs wants to make it an overhaul and rebuild costing ME lots of money. His solution won't even solve the problem and is not even what the RV originally had in the first place. If he just ordered the right part like I asked, this could have been simple. But I caught him in his big lie and I realized what was happening. When I told him that I knew that the solution was a scam, he said he didn't want my business because I don't listen. Believe me, I heard him. I just don't believe him. I'm not stupid. Maybe he's a misogynist, racist or just plain stupid. It seems from reading other reviews that he treats women like they are stupid, especially the "damsels in distress". And the other reviews mention that he's a SEX OFFENDER TOO! So I enter his name on the NV sex registry it has all his details and home address. He is a misogynist so I'm not surprised at all about charges of aggravated assault with intent to rape. --I f you want a performance build on a tired old motor Bob is the right guy for you--especially 1950's to 1970's classic, or High Performance cars.. Sure, I did pay more than he quoted for his service but I knew His original quote was too low and my build was on an old motor, a 1965 289HP... My new engine has about 100 more rwhp and 110 more ft. pounds of torque now; the whole motor is new/rebuilt and I got to keep my stock motor after I'd driven it a hard 350,000 miles--His build is tuned and smooth--and 35% more power over the stock 289HP--"It's a Racing motor now" he told me... He even told me how to break it in--what oil to use, and told me to "Try and blow it up while under warranty." I will refer anyone who needs a new engine; I will come back later for a Paint job--I know BOB--he may not be the best PR guy but he does great engine work and he stands behind his work--most important... he cares. Bob wants the best for everybody at a fair price. I think all the bad stuff written here about Bob is one guy who didn't like Bob for other reasons. Bob may have bad reviews but he does care about your satisfaction; People tend to blame mechanics when things go wrong with their car. I was just going to write a review of our wonderfully professional experience with Bob's Performance Center, but I noticed the review posted by Jason F. and since we were there at the time of this "interaction", I felt it necessary to include some details that were left out of his review. Bob had spoken with this person at least a couple of times on the phone and explained to him what he needed to do, but Jason F. obviously did not appreciate the advise that Bob had given him and did what he (Jason) thought was best. So basically, he was just calling to waste Bob's time. I don't blame Bob for telling him (JasonF.), that he needed to take his business somewhere else. If I had been Bob , I don't believe I would have been able to be quite as courteous as Bob was. No one likes to have their time and talent wasted! But to the original purpose of my review, Bob and his staff were nothing short of the most professional and above-board RV service providers that we've encountered in a long time. The work was completed on time and to our specifications. In fact, Bob noticed that we had an issue with one of our brakes locking up on the RV, and thanks to his expertise and knowledge, we avoided a much more costly expense down the road. I, too, would give negative stars if I could. Needed a water pump replaced and was quoted "x". When I picked my car up, "y" was added, as Bob told me the belt squealed like a banshee due to all the water loss. Mind you, it DID NOT squeal when I drove it to Bob's. Got in to a debate about the added cost, and at one point, Bob had his "wife" take me outside to discuss the matter, as he was getting frustrated with me (his words). Discussion with "wife" got heated, and at one point, she calls me "hon", which I replied to her not to. This angered her, and she says "she has 5 guys in the shop that will come out if she needs them to". Sounds like a threat to me, don't you think? Ended up discovering the reason for the squeal was the belt was routed wrong, and a pulley had cut in to a hose clamp, cutting the clamp and hose it was holding. Nice job from your mechanic, Bob. At least you did refund the extra original add-on cost, however, there is NO WAY I will do any business with you in the future, and will make sure to tell my friends not to come to you. read more

Bob's Perfomance were a tremendous help to me as the catalytic converter from my truck was stolen and I would not be able to go to work. Since this truck is my only means of transportation and I live alone, Bob's Performance and the team got the part ordered right away and had me come on in and within just a few days... I arrived and the truck was fixed within an hour. Whole problem was solved!! A year and a half ago, Bob's performance fixed up a horse trailer I had brought in. They discovered the brakes were totally shot (and showed me). The thing was I had another mechanic up in Oregon check and said it was fixed! It wasn't at all until Bob's performance fixed me up besides other work needing done on trailer. Both times, the work was efficient, professional, within a short time and the bill was super decent for all they did! I highly recommend Bob's Performance for anyone needing mechanical work!!!! We came in as strangers, but were treated like family, by Bob and his crew. Bob ordered a tow truck for us and then sent Melody out to let us know that it was coming. At Bob Performance a quick diagnosis was made, parts were ordered, some of which came from quite a distance. The replacements were installed efficiently by Edgar and Gary. We were at Bob's from Saturday, June 20th, 2015 until Thursday, June 25th. While waiting for parts we were allowed to use the shops electricity, we were invited to have showers at Bob's residence, as well as treated to a lovely dinner out. My husband and I bought an older (31) years old RV and we knew it would need work. We do not want to live in our RV, just want a couple of trips to the ocean and maybe a couple of art fairs with our pottery. On our first trip to the ocean our old RV made it 849 miles and broken down on our way home. We took it to Bob's. I've been taking my RV to Bob to get fixed for over five years now and he has always been friendly reasonable and fast at repairs. Recently I had a problem and took it to another shop for some dumb reason because they were referred to me and after $11,000 the problem is still not fixed. They had the motorhome for 2 1/2 months without it being repaired correctly. I took it to Bob's performance and after three days and $1300 they found the problem and fixed it. If you are in Carson City Gardnerville or Minden or anywhere nearby I wouldn't take my RV to anyone else. read more

I live in Gardnerville,NV have used Bob for repairs on my motor home and other vehicles for years. He is honest, knowledgeable and runs a clean shop. Many times he does not even charge me, I know that if I am in a bind and need help that Bob and his crew are there to help. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I just read an ad in the local paper about how he's always looking for qualified mechanics. I agree........ he needs to hire QUALIFIED mechanics. Why? He said he had to replace a belt because mine "squeeled like a banshee". Gee, Bob, had your mechanic routed it properly, the pulley would NOT have cut in to a hose clamp, hence the mentioned squeel. I've been using Bob's ever since moving to G'ville some 20 years ago. He's worked on my Tahoe until I sold it, Still works on my Dodge Magnum, and '64 Pontiac GTO. Does really good work that goes beyond the standard a-- lube and oil change. As far as I'm concerned he treats the cars like their his own, and always charges a fair price for what ever is done.
