First time here and will make this a routine stop while traveling the 101. Bread is the star of each meal and it does come through. Mushroom toast with a flavorful gravy, on a thick biscuit- hardy and delicious. Avocado toast had pumpkin seeds, giving it a crunchy texture. Tons of outdoor seating to accommodate families of different shapes sizes. Service is quick and attentive. Line goes by quick. The atmosphere is of a California vibe, diverse folks coming together for a great meal.

I love bread in all its beautiful forms -- and Bob's Well Bread is truly the master of bread‑making. I found this place on social media and knew I had to try it, especially the "egg in a jar" with purple potatoes and toast soldiers (I can never resist a purple potato or a fun name). The space is small and charming with plenty of outdoor parking. They have a lovely outdoor dining area with lots of seating. You order inside at the counter, get a number, and they bring everything out to you. The menu is full of delicious, bready dishes, and I loved that they offer a wide selection of coffee drinks -- even matcha. You can find macchiatos, cortados, and more here. We ordered the egg in a jar with toast soldiers, a baguette sandwich, a matcha latte, a cappuccino, and of course a chocolate croissant to go as a sweet treat for the road. If I could afford the calories of eating bread every day, I'd be here daily. Every bread item we tried was incredible. The croissant was buttery and flaky, exactly as it should be. The baguette sandwich had the perfect balance of crunch and softness. And the toast soldiers were the ideal size and texture for scooping up the cheesy, creamy, eggy goodness in the jar. We visited on a Monday and it wasn't too busy. Staff was very friendly. If I lived closer, I'd be grabbing fresh bread from here all the time. A must‑stop for any bread lover exploring the area.

I ordered the Eggs in a Jar and I'm still thinking about it. I never would have expected mashed potatoes to be the highlight of a breakfast dish, but this completely changed my mind. The potatoes were rich and comforting, topped with a perfectly poached egg and crispy bacon that blended together in every bite. It was indulgent without feeling too heavy, just incredibly satisfying. The grilled bread served on the side deserves special mention because it was honestly some of the best bread I've had. It was grilled beautifully with great flavor and texture, and it was perfect for scooping up every last bite. I also had to try some of the baked goods before leaving, and they were just as impressive as the savory food. You can really taste the care and quality in everything they make. The service was efficient and straightforward. It wasn't overly warm or chatty, but it also wasn't unfriendly. They seemed focused on getting orders out quickly and keeping things moving. The ambiance really made the experience even better. We sat on the covered outdoor patio, which was comfortable and inviting. There is also plenty of uncovered outdoor seating, while the indoor space is limited to one large communal table. The patio is definitely the way to go. This place has high reviews for a reason. The food is truly amazing, thoughtful, flavorful, and absolutely worth the visit. I will definitely be back

Father's Day special. Tri Tip breakfast burrito.

Stopped in on Father's Day for a nice breakfast. I went away from my usual and tried their Father's Day Special which was a tri tip burrito. It was simple and delicious which is exactly how you want your food to be if it is not complicated. The limited ingredients and quality shined through and I highly enjoyed my meal. The person at the register was enjoyable and nice making the entire trip a great experience.

Their outside patio was perfect for enjoying lunch with our dog. We ordered inside and the service is great. We ordered the LINE COOK'S PÂTÉ (Grilled Pain au Levain served with brandied chicken liver pâté, onion bacon marmalade & cornichons) and the REUBEN (House made Corned Beef, Sauerkraut, Grandma's Dressing and Swiss Cheese on Rye Bread). The bread is phenomenal. We were heading to Cambria for the night but stopped here for lunch because it's that good. Glad we did

This cafe is an absolute gem! We stopped there for brunch during the week and had an enjoyable experience. While we didn't feel like they were eager to take our order, they didn't have attitude...it was just not a typical friendly welcoming. We ate our food there on their patio adjacent to the cafe, which was a cute area. They have additional patio seating completely outside that also looked cute. The wait time was average, so that's a plus. I ordered a ham and cheese croissant, which came room temperature because it was made previously in the day. They did not offer to warm it up, so I'm not sure if they are able to or not, but next time I will ask because at room temperature it was less than desirable. I feel the same about their glazed pastry; not desirable at room temperature. However, my wife ordered the Egg in a Jar and we are both OBSESSED. That dish alone is what is bringing us back there. I think their freshly-served items are delectable. It was so good I'm still thinking about it a week later. Overall, 4 stars because the food served at room temperature were a bit disappointing, however the cute patio seating and Egg in a Jar is what sold us to come back for more.

Our daughter-in-law told us about this place. And we told her that we will check it out on our way home. Bob's Well Bread did not disappoint. The pastries we shared were flaky and tasted great. We both got latte's and they were also good. We were the first ones there when they opened at 8am. And the got busy. We would definitely recommend Bob's Well Bread when in Los Olivos, CA.

I love stopping by Bob's Well Bread whenever I'm in the area. Located in the quaint town of Los Alamos. It makes me feel like I'm driving through a western movie set each time. Get here early! It can get pretty busy. There's not much room standing in line waiting to order. There is no menu posted, so come prepared by looking them up online. Paper menus are available at the cash register though. While standing in line you get an opportunity to check out all the delicious sandwiches, pastries and cookies tempting you through the display. Each made with the finest ingredients. No added preservatives here! As for the food, on my latest visit I tried the mushroom toast. The name might fool you unless you looked at the menu. Sautéed seasonal mushrooms in sherry vinegar, crème fraiche, bacon lardons and shallots cover two large house-made biscuits. Not toast as we know, but I'll take homemade biscuits any day! This is a savory, hearty meal that will leave you full and satisfied. My son tried the Egg-in-a-Jar. It's a smaller portion, so just be aware if you have a big appetite. The small jar contains purple potato purée topped with Gruyère cheese, sans the bacon lardons, poached egg, chives and crème fraiche. Served with perfectly charred toast soldiers. He thoroughly enjoyed this! On my previous visit, I tried the turkey breakfast sandwich. It sounded good, but unfortunately it wasn't to my liking. I don't know if it was the turkey or cheese, but it had a weird taste and smell. I just couldn't get passed it. Luckily, I also ordered the chocolate croissant which was delicious! I also enjoy the drip coffee here. Overall, a great spot to check out if you're visiting nearby.

Today we had a blonde staff who silenced the poor reviews on bad customer service. She was all smiles, overly friendly and chatty and took time with each customer despite the long line. So glad we had a great experience! Giant chocolate croissant, strawberry danish, sausage breakfast biscuit and the infamous purple potato dish. Whole party was happy and full. Plenty of seating inside and out. Nice place to stop on our drive back to OC.

This little bread bakery doubles as a light restaurant as well as a bakery. We normally have a great experience here. Rose wine check Wait in line check check Order breakfast or lunch check check check Pay for said fun-well, you get it. And now we wait. And wait. And wait. Longer than usual, but that's ok. We have conversations galore to catch up on. We noted that the lady who placed her order behind us was walking to her car with a to go box. Wait, huh? . Ok, no biggie. Let them be late. Thanks #MelRobbins Our order finally arrives. My husband's looks great! Mine--I requested salad rather than the potatoes. The cashier had told me no substitutions, but I explained I get migraines from eating eggs and potatoes in the same meal. I never order that. It's considered an allergy for me. I even offered to pay for the salad. "No no" I was told. Ok, thank you very much. My next move would have been telling them to keep the potatoes. Instead I was told I would get the salad. As you can see from my picture, no salad, potatoes on my plate. I am pretty unhappy about this. So when I asked him about this later, him being the cashier. He told me that the kitchen had told him that they were going to do the potatoes and there would be no substitute. The kitchen needs to understand one thing. If people have allergies, the kitchen needs to take it seriously. I have to carry an EpiPen with me for a reason. So do other people with allergies. The kitchen may not believe in allergies, but those of us who suffer for them certainly do. So if someone in the kitchen needs to take a review page on what happens with people who have allergies and what can happen. That was a very bad call on their end. And when the cashier may mention that all of our plates were clean, I told him that my dog could finish the potatoes for me. Gave him a sweet smile, and walked away. Thus is my review of Bob bread.

I'm giving this place five stars because I think of 4.2 is a little harsh. I thought this place was pretty good. Gossip on the street is that the owner is not nice, so maybe that's why? That said, the employees were all really sweet and they did not seem like they had a mean boss, so whatever he may or may not be doing, seems to be working. I hope he's not mean! That would be sad. We ordered avocado toast, and a smoked salmon/bagel platter, a latte and a cappuccino. I ordered an egg poached hard with my avocado toast, and I was pleased. They actually did it right because people have a really hard time getting that one, right. The avocado toast was not over seasoned, it was avocado, not avocado spread, and the sunflower seeds on top threw me off at first, but they were actually a nice touch in the end. The bread was extra good. It was kind of a big avocado toast. It felt more like avocado toast for two, but I crushed it. All by myself. The smoked salmon and bagel seems hard to mess up. They did a good job. I thought it was weird that they didn't toast the bagel though. The coffee was good. Not super memorable good but good. My pet peeve is ordering a cappuccino and it taste like warm milk. This tasted like coffee and foam... The way of cappuccino should taste. We also ordered a baguette for the drive home. It was a little tough, but it was good.

I'd heard some buzz about this place and am so glad we went. We came on Labor Day weekend and luckily got there early enough before the line got huge. I ordered the egg/turkey sausage sandwich on the BEST English muffin I've ever had- soft, chewy, rich. The Egg in a Jar reminds me of Egg Slut but takes it up a notch. The ham and cheese croissant is also excellent; the OJ is fresh, the coffee respectable. I loved the down home community vibe, too. The servers were all super nice and we had a great experience.

Today we stopped for breakfast: Bagel and Gravlax, and Egg in Frame #2 - both excellent. There are lines on weekend, and a bit of a wait for hot dishes - but there's no passing through Los Alamos without a stop here - and a couple of pastries for the road and a loaf for your destination! read more

Every Easter we buy the hot cross buns because they were great until this year, 2026. The recipe is changed, the shape is changed, there appears to be no candied citrus or any zested or dried fruit in them and they were not lightly frosted like in the past and they were dry. I'm looking for a good recipe for hot cross buns because I probably will not buy these again. read more

Surprisingly one of the better almond croissants I've ever had, was DELICIOUS! The ambiance was cute but we sat outside because the weather was lovely. Service was okay, they were busy so just very direct which was fine. Overall I would recommend this place for pastries and coffee, it was so great! read more

What a random but memorable stop! We were heading back to the LA area from Pismo Beach, and unfortunately due to the holiday season a lot of the bakeries in the area were closed. But what's a holiday morning without some bread to start the day? My dad had Bob's Well Bread saved on his Google years ago, so we decided to stop by (we also stopped by the site that was NOT the same one he saved on his account, and there was a lot of confusion initially). But DANG. It's like we stepped into the Wild Wild West and suddenly there was a poppin' bakery in the middle of nowhere. We thought it would just be a quick stop, but given how long the line was it took us more than an hour for the pitstop--this is just to describe to you how popular this place is, even on a weekday! There were also these super cute avocado toast and croissant-shaped dog toys on sale. Croissant: what a unit of a croissant, this thing is Massive. And tasty too, it was lightly crispy on the outside and full of buttery softness on the inside. Eggs in a Jar: I think I have a thing against savory purple foods, but if I closed my eyes it wasn't that bad. The eggs and potato just kind of formed this savory mush that was satisfying to poke the bread spears into, and the lardon added a nice salty flavor I really wanted the brie and fig sandwich, but they had run out, so I got the turkey and cheese. It was okay, I think I was expecting it to be turkey ham rather than actual pieces of turkey. Oatmeal raisin cookie was a on the sweet side, but the sugar helped to caramelize the edges and make them nice and crispy. I think it also helped to keep the center moist and decadent. Olive bread: This. This was the winner. It was absolutely speckled with olives and has such a beautiful flavor profile. It goes well with butter or olive oil, we're burning through the loaf quite quickly. If you ever find yourself in the Los Alamos area this is a spot you shouldn't miss! read more

One of the best breakfast spots on the central coast. Huevos rancheros was very good but the gravlax platter is even better. Coffee is also exceptional. It gets busy and can take a while standing in line so you might want to order online ahead of time. Small indoor dining area but they have a nice larger outdoor patio area with plenty of tables. Dog friendly and they have house made dog biscuits for $2 read more

We stopped here for our first time for breakfast today. There was a line about six deep at the counter, waiting to order at 9:30 AM. We moved along steadily and they were efficient in taking our order and then delivering our food in a timely manner. We had a chocolate croissant, egg in a frame number one and the bagel with salmon. The food was outstanding. Nice area outside in the shade with picnic tables and small tables to enjoy your meal. While Somewhat rustic you definitely need to stop for the food. read more

Not that clean, flies and rough areas to eat. It use to be more inviting. Bread and food good. Coffee...meh. Staff nice. Minimum wage staff working for tips that are taxed by owner. Heavily relying on tips. Warning! Green tarp in front is often loose and flies in the wind. Metal clips and base bar will really damage car if you drive up. No signs or attempts to manage this dangerous issue. We were advised Bob had been told many times and doesn't care. We left with damages across hood and quickly learned that while staff felt bad, nothing was going to change. Fellow customers shared that they loved food, but couldn't stand Bob at all. Apparently, he's all about Bob. We didn't bother following through with contacting Bob about the physical damage to our car. It was clear it wasn't worth it. $75 for lunch and likely $350 for the body work on hood. read more

My friend and I were recommended to go here on our trip through the Central Coast. It was such a pleasant surprise! The food and drinks were really delicious, rustic, but beautifully presented. The outside seating is really quaint and taking a little walk around the town was just the right amount to stretch our legs. My mom and I started coming to Bob's a while ago when I would tag along on her trips to visit patients for work. Once we moved closer to the area, we were happy to know a trip for an egg-in-a-frame #1 would only be a hop and a skip away. The egg-in-a-frame is one of those things that you just have to try, it's so good. It helped me discover my love for roasted tomatoes. It seems like a relatively simple dish but it's so good and full of flavor. There's no doubt about which meal we'll order, it's usually what we'll order in addition that is the real question. Today we got an egg in a jar without the bacon lardons (I don't eat red meat). It was also very good. We would scoop some out, put it on the pieces of bread it came with, and eat it that way. For an appetizer before the meals, my mom and I shared a plain croissant which I dipped into my cafe au lait and she dipped into her caffe latte. It was the perfect start to our day. My mom is also very keen on the caneles. If you want to try some breakfast or lunch here, you won't be disappointed! Just be warned that the line can be a bit long at times. Since my mom and I live nearby we usually try to get here by 9:30/10. Enjoy!! read more

I've been going to Bob's for years, but now I'm done. Cinnamon bun seemed stale @ hard. I asked for them to heat it, but they don't do that. I looked around and biscuits were left 1/2 eaten on other people's plates. Don't you usually gobble up a good biscuit? My favorite avocado toast was just ok. Bread toasted, crust so hard you can't cut it. Egg was cool. Needed salt. I'm sad, but it's not worth the drive from SM anymore. read more

This is a must if and when you are in Los Alamos! They make their bread daily and have breakfast offerings. Everything is delicious! You cannot go wrong with any option you pick. They do get busy and you will often have to wait in line, but trust me that it will be worth it. The restaurant itself is quaint but they have a good amount of seating including the outdoor patio. The service is friendly and fast and if you dine in they will bring your food and drinks to the table. It's truly a wonderful experience from start to finish and the food will amaze you! read more

I always stop here on my way out of Santa Barbara. My usual go-to is the sandwich on the demi baguettes from the cold case - perfect for a quick grab-and-go meal while driving and that's also delicious. Bob knows how to make bread. We dropped in for a late lunch after a mid-morning wine tasting in the hills. We ordered avocado toast and egg in a jar. We also picked up some English muffins and biscuits for later. My husband really enjoyed his avocado toast. So much that he wants to start making it at home. The egg in a jar was a great way to soak up all the wine. The biscuits were quite good...the first time a black pepper biscuit has ever actually tasted like black pepper to me. The English muffins toasted up just great a couple of days later with butter from France. Service was quick and easy. If we had hit this place on our way home, I'd have wanted to be loaves to go. read more

I give them a six star review. First the wonderful service we got started our meal off right. Our coffee drinks were made to perfection. We dropped by Bob's Well Bread on the way down to Solvang this time, as I wanted a wider selection of goodies. I was rewarded with a goodly array of tempting treats, both sweet and savory. I went for the cinnamon roll, layers of crispy buttery melt-in-your mouth goodness and a classic Pain au Chocolat. The Croissant lived up to my memory of its lightness and the cinnamon roll brought new heights of delight with its rich cinnamon spice. We also went away with a large loaf of raison bread, which has been mysteriously disappearing every time one of us goes into the kitchen. We shall return to this bakery every time we pass by and I would not be surprised if it didn't become a destination in itself! read more

As soon as I walked in I was greeted, with a warm smile. I never been in there and I asked what was popular or special. She gave several recommendations and I told her to choose the top 4. She gave me a Canele, Cinnamon-Sugar Morning bun, Apple pastry and Kouign-Amann. All 4 were great, well packaged. Love how the bakery looked inside and out. Haven't visited here in several years and this is my first review. This place has incredible food and baked goods. We had the Cobb salad and the muffaleta sandwich. The Cobb salad was outstanding and the muffaleta was delicious, now I lived in New Orleans for 4 years so I know what a real muffaleta is and this sandwich was not authentic but it was a great interpretation. The gardrnier was very good and a little spicy. Throughly enjoyed it. It is one those places where you order and pay in advance but the ambiance was kind of rustic. We spent the day in los alamos and this was the place that my wife really wanted to try. We came around 11:15 and it was busy! I think like 4 groups in front of us but took a solid 30 mins to get to the counter to order. Everyone was friendly and order was quick to arrive. Overall I would say service was really good and quick, once you get the order in. I grabbed shaken vanilla iced latte and it was just ok. Not sure if coffee is their thing but it fell flat. No real vanilla flavor and it was just ok. Mushroom toast- so the reason for the 4 star review is this dish. Not sure what it is about mushroom named plates but they seem to lack mushrooms. I wanted a lot more mushroom flavor out of this. One biscuit had a decent amount of shrooms and the other had like a couple only. Bacon was great, biscuit was great but the overwhelming flavor was the sherry vinegar. I wish it had been more subtle and there had been more mushroom flavor but not bad. Overall the place is clean, friendly and the outdoor are is nice to sit down at. Definitely recommend coming here for a good breakfast. read more

Bob's Well Bread is my new favorite bakery and coffee shop. Driving back to LA from SLO, I was told as a sourdough fan, I had to try theirs and I definitely wasn't disappointed. I try not to eat bread too often but when I do, I make it count with high quality bread like there's. I also ordered an Iced Chai Latte with oat milk. It was probably the best I've ever had. The inside is super adorable and their outside patio is cute and great for a morning coffee or brunch. Lastly, the service here is AMAZING. They're all so nice and welcoming, it would really seem like the folks I interacted with actually enjoy going to work every morning. A+ rating from me. read more

Boxy, ad hoc building housing Bob's Well Bread Bakery. Outdoor bread oven seems to be a show of authenticity like a huge smoker in front of a bbq joint. As soon as you pass through its portal, you run into the order counter- display case featuring the pastries du jour. I got there at 3:30pm since I had a sparkling wine tasting at Riverbench, and most of the goods like Sticky Bun, Kouign Amann, Pain au Chocolat had sold out since closing is at 4pm. My bad....The early bird gets the worm. 1) The only mille feuille pastry was stuffed with savory mushroom & spinach. It looked huge but is mostly pockets of air. The ultra thin top layer is crispy with scents of sweet butter & chopped, light scattering of fragrant rosemary leaves. Inside is moister, holding a little pocket of sautéed rather unexciting spinach & slIced mushroom. The filling to bread ratio is low so that you eat way more bland pastry. At home, I had some Steak au Poivre left over from the excellent 5 course menu at nearby Bell's so I stuffed some into the puffy pastry along w/ chopped onion & homemade garlicky, salty, fermented cauliflower Kim Chi to round out the flavours. 2) The Centennial Loaf looks monumental in a rustic sort of way....ultra heavy, seething with 7 non-gluten whole seeds throughout the entire loaf not only on its outside. This "bread" seems almost "paleolithic" which refers to foods eaten before the Neolithic agricultural revolution around 10,000 bce. Cutting a slice shows: Oats, flax, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, psyllium husks, maple syrup, olive oil, sea salt. The clerk told me the all whole seed mixture is held together with a chia seed flour matrix. Baked lightly, moist, nutty, mildly fibrous, softly chewy, stick to your ribs wholesomeness. Strangely, for me, the more I chewed, I felt a slight, not unpleasant sliminess from the Chia seeds. This loaf is an exercise in sussing out subtle, nuanced flavours & textures. This loaf would be nirvana for vegans, or whole food enthusiasts. Forgot to ask if the grains and other ingredients are organic which would place this into manna status. It's bland so toasting it, spreading Avocado Flower honey, fig jam, butter or bacon, ham, mayonnaise, fried egg, etc. would enhance the experience for those not into vegan existence. Server said the inspiration for this complex, esoteric "bread" was from Tartine in San Francisco. This is the most unusual "bread" that I have ever eaten. It must be labour intensive which is reflected in its price. 4- stars read more

Their brisket sandwich special was so good on Thursday, I had to come back to try it again on Sunday. Wifey had the biscuit (to die for) and eggs on day 1, and then switched it up with a generous portion of Raisin Challah French Toast. Super tasty, but a bit dry and sadly short on the scrumptious syrup. Don't expect quick service as they get swamped, especially on weekends. Also do not ask for substitutions or they will frown and point to the fine-print on the menu where it says: "we will politely decline substitutions". I get it. Otherwise, a friendly cashier on Sunday and clearly hard-working staff, but it seemed like the AC wasn't keeping up on a relatively mild 80-degree day. I felt bad for the staff. My boyfriend and I came here at 11am in the morning on a Sunday. There was a 15min wait to order. Unfortunately, they were very understaffed and our Togo order of just one entre of eggs Benedict took 45+ mins! No staff here informed us of the wait or that they were understaffed. We wouldn't have ordered if we knew it was going to take this long. It is frustrating when you spend a whole hour waiting for one Togo meal. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush. It's an interesting setup, as there's a separate space for Pico and a space for Lumen Wines, however we were told that the wine tastings are done in the restaurant. The ambiance is upscale-casual, the service is excellent (thanks Kali for getting my joke and making me laugh on our last visit), and the food is wonderfully delicious. They have main floor seating, a balcony, and a back patio, so request your spot when making a reservation. DRINKS: They have a full bar and the cocktails we've tried were very well made. The wine list is primarily Lumen wines, but there are some other local and old-world wines available, and some alcohol-free cocktails and beer too. On our first visit, we tried a Lumen wine tasting flight consisting of a '21 Chardonnay, a '21 Pinot Noir, and a '21 Grenache, and a couple extra pours, like the Escence orange wine and the "Hey Ginger" Pet Nat (check out my separate review for Lumen Wines). FOOD: We've eaten something on all three visits and everything we've tried has been very good. The menu is seasonal, so it's ever changing. The appetizers/entrées we've tried are the Wedge Salad, Kabocha Salad, Grilled Carrots, Avocado Crudo, Channel Island Squid, Steak Tartare, Pico Burger, and Rabbit Carnitas Tostadas. The food is well-seasoned and prepared as ordered. The kitchen seems to work well with the wait staff to coordinate when courses are delivered, so you're not getting everything at once. He was very friendly and knowledgeable not only about the wines, but about the estate and the land. The scenery was about as serene and peaceful as one could ask for (I was the only customer there albeit). They only take reservations, which makes sense since they probably would want to control the number of people at any given time and therefore enhance the wine tasting experience. The wines were delicious; I was particularly fond of the Syrah and up getting 3 bottles (which waived my tasting fee). I'm told they have some events during the summer months (live music, food trucks etc.) so I'll be sure to check it out next time. Overall, one of the best experiences I've had so far. Will definitely return again soon!

Stephan, the owner/winemaker, poured for us and provided us with his winemaking history. We tasted three wines, a '20 Chardonnay, a '22 Grenache, and a '22 Tempranillo, with revisits of our favorites. All were good, and we left with a couple bottles to add to our home cellar. He also had a couple friends visiting that brought their guitars and had a little folk music jam session, which created a very relaxing and fun ambiance. The week before our visit, they participated in the annual Mushroom Festival where they poured the same wines, however they had a food menu with several mushroom based items which really caught my eye. Definitely something to add to our calendar in the future. Overall, a pleasant experience and nice wines. Would stop in again to check out new vintages.

Joaquín was a gracious host and poured for us a '23 Grenache Blanc, and several other Grenache reds from various vineyards and produced with varying methods (whole clusters, co-fermentation, etc.) Good aromas and flavors on everything. Enjoyed several enough to take some bottles home with us. Overall, a nice, unique experience and would highly recommend to any Grenache wine fanatics.

The winery is in the heart of downtown Los Alamos, directly across the street from the post office. It has a cozy vibe with a nice wine bar and lounge seating area. Ramon, the owner/winemaker, was friendly and provided an interesting history of his family's wine journey. My wife and I shared the two tastings: Estate wines (Grenache, Syrah Noir, and Cab. Sauv.) and Meadowlark Vineyard wines (Syrah, Meritage, Red Blend, and Reserve Cab. Sauv.). They have 17 acres planted at the estate vineyard and they use French oak barrels, with a blend of new and neutral for aging. They produce about 600-800 cases a year, so definitely a boutique winery. The wines are well-made, and quite tasty. We took several bottles home with us. Amada Cellars is a nice place, and I recommend that you check them out when visiting the Los Alamos/Santa Ynez wine region.

The tasting room is nicely appointed with clean restrooms, and the people are nice enough, but don't expect any bargains. I'll never return just because he promised a discount for the quantity I purchased, then reneged and gave me nothing. He thought waiving the tasting fee was sufficient. I mean he wouldn't even give me 5 or 10% for being a disabled veteran. I'm not a fan of bait & switch sales tactics like that. Enjoy the $280 I spent. It's the last you'll see of my money! I see that the owner has responded to every review written so far. My advice is to not respond to this one. Take your $280 and leave it at that. You can only make things worse by responding to this because I'll reduce my rating and include your response in my edited review.

It's located at the easterly end of town, rather than in the center of town where most of the other wineries are located. Kevin Law, owner/winemaker, is making some of the best wines anywhere in the area. I say this with my usual disclaimer that what my palate loves, yours may not, so check them out for yourselves. Will, the assistant winemaker, happened to be pouring during our recent visit. He's a wonderful host and always takes care of us. We tasted the following: '19 Blanc de Blancs Sparkling (100% Chardonnay), '24 Aligoté (Santa Barbara), '19 Chardonnay (La Rinconada), '22 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills), '21 Pinot Noir (Sanford & Benedict), and a '19 "Derive" Bordeaux blend (48% Napa & 52% Santa Ynez Valley). As usual, we loved everything! I honestly can't tell you what they charge for a tasting, as we've always purchased 6 or more bottles, and they've waived the fee. Now we're Club Members and receive a regular discount all year, with an additional discount the two months they release to club members. I'm rather late in writing this review as it's been several months since I traveled, due to the Corona virus. Last fall, I flew in to SB airport to visit my cousin in Los Alamos. Rose brags about all the cute places in her town and dotted along the central coast. I'll admit, she did warn me not to go to Bob's Well Bread but I was enticed by its charming veneer and the crowd standing outside the door. I figured any place with a crowd like that has GOT to be good! I was expecting a warm greeting, a hot cafe au lait and a pain au chocolat, made ala soins affectueux (in French means tender loving care) . What I got was entirely the opposite. When I finally got my turn at the counter, I was met with a wall of cold silence and a condescending, indifferent stare from a bespectacled, middle-aged man . He tersely nodded his head up from the cash register as if saying "what do YOU want?" I ordered my cafe au lait which was cold as he was and a chocolate croissant. The chocolate croissant was not at all like the warm, flaky ones I was used to getting at my favorite boulangerie (bakery) in Frejus...ah...c'est vraiment (so delicious) ! I have such fond memories the baker, Raphael and his welcoming service. Well, forget comparisons. Let me just say that this chocolate croissant was not only pretentiously priced but pretentiously made. Sure. I could taste the butter but not the love, which is important to me, not only as a southern belle from Texas who knows her pastries but a lover of the French coast and its people. I was disappointed to say the least and will not return to this establishment on my next visit to California. read more

Cute little spot, we got in right before the line got out of hand. Pretty slow service but I didn't mind, we were just grabbing things to go for the road. If they had more than one cashier the line could have moved twice as fast, but hey some people don't mind waiting. It's a bit uncomfortable to be standing next to people who are eating and if I were to turn to the side my rear would be right in their face. We ordered the ham & cheese croissant, pear almond croissant, and the veggie baguette. Texture and flavor of the croissant is wonderful, flaky but not extremely messy, my only pet peeve, it has hardly any ham and cheese, important not to skimp on ingredients. Pear and almond had good flavor, lots of spices in the poaching liquid, but again, minimal ingredients ontop, hardly enough almond. Veggie baguette was great, the baguette was chewy and had good flavor, texture was great, crusty but not overly crusty where it rips the roof of my mouth. My friends latte was incredibly sweet (she ordered a vanilla latte) and had a ton of coffee grinds at the bottom. Either way I'll be back to sit and dine in. Nice to have a good bread bakery even if it's a tad far away. Price point is on par, not sure why people think it's expensive, the croissants are huge. read more

I pulled into Los Alamos only to top off my car's battery and stumbled onto Bob's Well Bread -- and now I'll happily detour here on purpose from here on out. This is not your average roadside stop. The artisan bread, pastries, and full breakfast/lunch menu are made with a level of care and craftsmanship you simply don't expect off the highway. You can taste the love in every bite. The standout was the egg in the jar: a silky, soft-baked egg nestled at the bottom of a glass jar, layered with rich, savory goodness and served warm so the yolk stays lusciously runny. You break through the top and spoon down through every tender layer -- comforting, elegant, and honestly divine. It's the kind of dish that makes you slow down and savor. The café drinks matched the food. The latte was smooth and well-pulled, and the lavender lemonade was a revelation -- floral, bright, and genuinely refreshing without being drowned in sugar the way so many lemonades are. Everything felt thoughtful, from the quality of the ingredients to the presentation. If you're passing through Santa Barbara County -- charging your car or not -- do yourself a favor and stop here. One again I was driving through and figured I'd give it another shot "because you have no other choice for coffee"... even after multiple disgusting/rude messages from the owners wife due to my first review. I wish I could say they improved but based on the reviews I had the same wanna be upscale LA snobs that don't live in LA experience....they need to learn their market and learn to be either friendly and slow but not slow and rude. They just don't belong in the atmosphere... so rude and still trying to be 20 on Instagram. I'd deal with the headache from no coffee rather then stop here ever again... save your money for other pretentious coffee shops that actually have good service and good Coffee... this place is a joke... ohhh and be prepared for your inbox to blow up With rude bitchy comments if you leave a negative comment... they love to be caty. read more

As someone having lived in Paris, I can safe say that the croissants, pain au chocolate, baguette, and pain au levain that are made at Bob's Well Bread Bakery, taste just as if they were baked at a top patisserie in France...truly traditional recipes. While I lived in the Santa Ynez Valley, this was a bi-weekly stop for lunch for myself and my dog - as their dog biscuits are also drool-worthy! The delicious food, welcoming staff and beautiful, interior decor make this bakery one of my favorite, gourmet cafes. And their lovely outdoor area surrounded by trees that is dog-friendly was a favorite of my dog's. Their homemade cookies are also delectable. Plus, they ship! read more

I loved the food there, very good flaky pastries, excellent baguette. But I removed two stars because of the owner's. He never looked me in the eye, barely said hello, did not smile. I frankly felt that I was not welcome and that he was doing me a favor by selling me his food. I was told by other friends who visited before me that he had a very haughty attitude and I was expecting that maybe that it was one of his bad days, but it seems to be the way he is. Bob's Well Bread used to be one of my favorite stops, but my recent visit was nothing short of disappointing. The clam chowder had barely any clams and was served cold--a total miss. Even worse, the bread served alongside had clearly been sliced with a dirty knife. I also ordered the ham and cheese baguette, hoping for a reliable classic, but it was chewy and stale-tasting. On top of that, the service was slow, and the staff seemed uninterested and unfriendly. With prices as high as they are, the quality and service just don't match up anymore. I was thoroughly impressed by their offerings. The rosemary bread was so good--it was so soft and with just the right crunch on the crust . However, the highlight of my visit was the breakfast egg sandwich on an english muffin. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the combination of sausage and arugula was delicious. The atmosphere of the bakery was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this bakery to anyone looking for high-quality breads and exceptional sandwiches. Perhaps the best bakery in Southern California, and nestled on Bell Street in sleepy Los Alamos. Nothing sleepy about Bob's, however. As soon as you walk through the door you will likely encounter a line of people, both locals and tourists, waiting to sample Bob's goodies. Proprietors Bob and Jane Oswaks are often serving you from behind the counter. The croissants are some of the best I have ever snacked on. Incredible daily quiches, great sandwiches and lunch. Straight out of a Seinfeld Episode "Soup Nazi" The owner of this restaurant, Bob is an unpredictable former Sony executive. I live in Los Alamos and have frequented his store since he opened. He's a narcissistic control freak. You never know if he will greet you with a friendly hello or treat you with a stoic "What do you want?" Overpriced and poor quality! Reuben ...terrible, the ham like rubber, was so hard, I could hardly bite on it.. I laughed...but left it on the plate. My husband had a slice of quiche, hardly cooked, cold inside. Some salad thrown on the side of the plate, no seasoning, no taste! I understand that the cook might have been tired but they should hire more people Staff not too friendly, usually when staff is like that, it comes from the boss whoever he is. The food is very good. The pace of service is unbearable. Unless you don't mind waiting 40 minutes while the 5 parties in front of you place their orders - for a baked good, don't go here. Not sure why it takes 5-10 minutes to take an order and payment, but Bob does. Or why there's not a separate person taking orders vs. payment. Plenty is a few yards past. Food is great, service is friendly and within the norm of what modern day humans expect. Never attempting Bobs again. read more

Amazing croissants! Light, buttery and perfectly flakey. It is like the cotton candy of layered pastry! I've also tried the country bread as toast with their housemade butter and jam. Great place for breakfast. A must if in the area. We make the 45 minute drive and it is well worth it. Great food great atmosphere.
