We spent the day in los alamos and this was the place that my wife really wanted to try. We came around 11:15 and it was busy! I think like 4 groups in front of us but took a solid 30 mins to get to the counter to order. Everyone was friendly and order was quick to arrive. Overall I would say service was really good and quick, once you get the order in. I grabbed shaken vanilla iced latte and it was just ok. Not sure if coffee is their thing but it fell flat. No real vanilla flavor and it was just ok. Mushroom toast- so the reason for the 4 star review is this dish. Not sure what it is about mushroom named plates but they seem to lack mushrooms. I wanted a lot more mushroom flavor out of this. One biscuit had a decent amount of shrooms and the other had like a couple only. Bacon was great, biscuit was great but the overwhelming flavor was the sherry vinegar. I wish it had been more subtle and there had been more mushroom flavor but not bad. Overall the place is clean, friendly and the outdoor are is nice to sit down at. Definitely recommend coming here for a good breakfast. read more

Boxy, ad hoc building housing Bob's Well Bread Bakery. Outdoor bread oven seems to be a show of authenticity like a huge smoker in front of a bbq joint. As soon as you pass through its portal, you run into the order counter- display case featuring the pastries du jour. I got there at 3:30pm since I had a sparkling wine tasting at Riverbench, and most of the goods like Sticky Bun, Kouign Amann, Pain au Chocolat had sold out since closing is at 4pm. My bad....The early bird gets the worm. 1) The only mille feuille pastry was stuffed with savory mushroom & spinach. It looked huge but is mostly pockets of air. The ultra thin top layer is crispy with scents of sweet butter & chopped, light scattering of fragrant rosemary leaves. Inside is moister, holding a little pocket of sautéed rather unexciting spinach & slIced mushroom. The filling to bread ratio is low so that you eat way more bland pastry. At home, I had some Steak au Poivre left over from the excellent 5 course menu at nearby Bell's so I stuffed some into the puffy pastry along w/ chopped onion & homemade garlicky, salty, fermented cauliflower Kim Chi to round out the flavours.   2) The Centennial Loaf looks monumental in a rustic sort of way....ultra heavy, seething with 7 non-gluten whole seeds throughout the entire loaf not only on its outside. This "bread" seems  almost "paleolithic" which refers to foods eaten before the Neolithic agricultural revolution around 10,000 bce. Cutting a slice shows: Oats, flax, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, almonds, psyllium husks, maple syrup, olive oil, sea salt. The clerk told me the all whole seed mixture is held together with a chia seed flour matrix. Baked lightly, moist, nutty, mildly fibrous, softly chewy, stick to your ribs wholesomeness. Strangely, for me, the more I chewed, I felt a slight, not unpleasant sliminess from the Chia seeds. This loaf is an exercise in sussing out subtle, nuanced flavours & textures.  This loaf would be nirvana for vegans, or whole food enthusiasts. Forgot to ask if the grains and other ingredients are organic which would place this into manna status.  It's bland so toasting it, spreading Avocado Flower honey, fig jam, butter or bacon, ham, mayonnaise, fried egg, etc. would enhance the experience for those not into vegan existence. Server said the inspiration for this complex, esoteric "bread" was from Tartine in San Francisco.  This is the most unusual "bread" that I have ever eaten. Bob's Well Bread is my new favorite bakery and coffee shop. Driving back to LA from SLO, I was told as a sourdough fan, I had to try theirs and I definitely wasn't disappointed. I try not to eat bread too often but when I do, I make it count with high quality bread like there's. I also ordered an Iced Chai Latte with oat milk. It was probably the best I've ever had. The inside is super adorable and their outside patio is cute and great for a morning coffee or brunch. Lastly, the service here is AMAZING. Haven't visited here in several years and this is my first review. This place has incredible food and baked goods. We had the Cobb salad and the muffaleta sandwich. The Cobb salad was outstanding and the muffaleta was delicious, now I lived in New Orleans for 4 years so I know what a real muffaleta is and this sandwich was not authentic but it was a great interpretation. The gardrnier was very good and a little spicy. Throughly enjoyed it. It is one those places where you order and pay in advance but the ambiance was kind of rustic. My boyfriend and I came here at 11am in the morning on a Sunday. There was a 15min wait to order. Unfortunately, they were very understaffed and our Togo order of just one entre of eggs Benedict took 45+ mins! No staff here informed us of the wait or that they were understaffed. We wouldn't have ordered if we knew it was going to take this long. It is frustrating when you spend a whole hour waiting for one Togo meal. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush. My wife and I popped off the 101 to the bakery to bring something with us to our Aunt and Uncle's house. It is maybe a 1/4 mile from the freeway and easy to get to. Don't try and be efficient and get gas at this exit though as it was super pricey. Arriving about an hour before closing meant very slim pickings. We were able to get a yummy baguette for dinner and split a salami sandwich on a mini baguette. There is a shady spot next door with tables to enjoy your bread and also wine which they sell if so inclined. We will hit them again on our way back down to LA in the morning hours for hopefully more options. read more

Super tasty, but a bit dry and sadly short on the scrumptious syrup. Don't expect quick service as they get swamped, especially on weekends. Also do not ask for substitutions or they will frown and point to the fine-print on the menu where it says: "we will politely decline substitutions". I get it. Otherwise, a friendly cashier on Sunday and clearly hard-working staff, but it seemed like the AC wasn't keeping up on a relatively mild 80-degree day. I felt bad for the staff. Obsessed. We stopped by Bob's for breakfast on our last night in Los Alamos and were totally blown away. My bf maintains that as a general rule brunch is not worth it because it is overpriced and he can make anything on the menu at home. Bob's is the exception to that rule. We had the Egg in a Jar (Purple potato puree topped with gruyere cheese, poached egg, bacon lardons, chives and crème fraiche served with toast soldiers) and the Mushroom Toast (A mix of seasonal mushrooms sautéed with Sherry vinegar, creme fraiche, bacon lardons and shallots over a peppery house-made biscuit, and topped with a poached farm egg) and both were to die for. I can't wait to try more items on the menu. We took a couple of baguette sandwiches and an assortment of pastries to go, and devoured them at the winery. I think they might be the best pastries that I've had and I've lived in Paris. Just wow. I learned later that Bob is a retired Hollywood executive who decided to move away from the city and focus on a slower paced life and that just makes the whole thing that much more special to me (as a current Hollywood executive myself). The secret is out. The line is out the door on weekends do plan accordingly. Lovely outdoor seating amongst a garden and grape vines. Sit under the old oak tree. Popular items sell out early. We were in line a bit over half hour and the cinnamon morning bum and chocolate babka were sold out. Service-related problems are staggeringly frequent, and there are some disturbing notes related to food quality. You should know this before you cross the threshold (see multiple reviews to this effect). Bread. If you want some really good mastication practice, this is your baker. The results here, however, do not reflect French baking. Due to a clear miscue in dough preparation, someone has decided that bread dough requires extensive working to build really strong gluten, with the result that eating Bob's version of an épi is a profoundly challenging physical exercise. This place seems to be the main attraction in sleepy Los Alamos as it was packed on a recent Monday at 9am. 15min line outside that seemed to never end as they were only letting in one customer at a time into the store. We decided to have breakfast on their covered patio -- so we ordered at the counter (and placed a large "to go" order at the same time). I was disappointed with their thick cut french toast -- as it came drenched in syrup so it was cold). Who does that? Let me decide how much syrup (if any) I want on my food please? Also, it was soggy and uncooked in the middle due to the bread being so thick. Was going to return it but didn't want to deal with the hassle and wait. Very disappointed! Our first time here and we were excited because of the good things we had been told as well as the reviews. I ordered a sandwich with the "special sauce," as did two others in our group of four. When I requested it, the cashier gave the cooks my request, and then was told that they had been out of the "special sauce" all afternoon. This place is a gluten eater's paradise! And for those like me with non-celiac gluten avoidance, there are still great choices! Almost everything can be made gluten free with their seeded loaf (see pic). I had the sausage egg breakfast sandwich and it was an enormous portion, very tasty. Deciding what to order here is a hard choice! There's so much warm baked goodness that hits us as we enter the store, it's very hard to decide what to eat. The outdoor seating had lots of shade to beat the heat and there was live music which made it even better. Our group tried a variety of menu items and loved all of it: the eggs in a frame, eggs in a jar, spicy fried chicken sandwich, line cook's pâté, and reuben sandwich. Our server said the Howlin Bob's Spicy Fried Chicken was his favorite item and he'd eat it every day if he could, and it did not disappoint -not too spicy but perfectly crispy and tasty. Had the Italian special which was a warm ciabatta with like 3 types of meat /I think the ham was grilled, cheese and a shredded lettuce topping that had a slight spicy to it and was $15. Also had the turkey and cheese sandwich. This and the other regular sandwiches are premade and you can see them in the glass case when you place your order. The sandwich was small, the turkey dry, and the bread hard, not worth the $10. Both sandwiches are served with a side of arugula salad with a super light salty dressing which I think was just olive oil n salt. I was surprised that I did like this side salad. I had the "filtered" tap water and my date had the Diet Coke which was one of those mini sized bottles for like $4. This meal was about $30. We got there right before the lunch rush. In front of us we're 2 people and all of a sudden there was like 4 groups behind us. It's small inside with like 4 tables but they have plenty outside seating. This was our lunch stop on a Thursday in August before our Foxen Rd. 1st time visiting and I hope this review will help Bob's improve. I came here with my daughter and my mom. Tradition is huge for my mom. Whenever we get together for breakfast, she likes to order a hot cinnamon roll with butter for the table. My mom ordered the cinnamon roll. She requested it heated and the reply was "we don't heat our items but it was made fresh this morning." I found this bizarre. This morning? I thought, looking at the time being after 11am. There's no way it's warm. She also ordered the ham and cheese croissant. Again, Bobs declined heating it up. I ordered the mushroom toast, which came on a biscuit and it was piping hot topped with a poached egg. Interesting. We all sat at a table, then as my mom sawed through the chilled cinnamon roll I was perturbed. I got up to request it to be heated so we could enjoy the the glaze melted with butter, the response was "we aren't capable of doing that." Then, she actually thanked me. I thought for what? No empathy. Huge hospitality no no. I could've gone off, but being from hospitality myself, I didn't. This is a bakery! How does a bakery not have capability to heat up a cinnamon roll???
