Solving in July was a great get away from the LA heatwave. Being there became an opportunity to scope out the coffee. Ok, I tried several places and those won't get reviewed, but hands down for Cafe Joy . Located in a central commune of other charming businesses, Cafe Joy greets guests with their good vibes, an adjacent gallery highlighting artists, and a friendly staff. The coffee verdict -- the Mocha is fantastic; well balanced chocolate, beans and froth. Also tried the mushroom latte (feeling adventurous). Definitely a contrast and bolder flavor to the sweetness of the mocha, but nonetheless delicious and an energetic drink. read more

Joy Cafe is a hidden gem. The espresso is some of the best I've tasted and I've tasted a lot! It is so smooth without needing any sugar or milk. They also had delicious empanadas. The place is welcoming with the decor and outside patio seating as well. read more

A good find, eclectic music playing , cute shop next door, organic ingredients, fair prices. Great place to grab a bite & (pastries, locally sourced) coffee is pretty good. About 5 small tables/chairs, bench indoors. There's a really adorable outdoor patio that is communal- nice to just sit n relax whilst enjoying your treats & beverages. I ordered something different-lavender matcha latte, Hubby's usual oat milk latte, both hot. Barista is efficient. My drink arrived shortly in a thick glass container, different but nice. I arrived at around 5pm and ordered a Lavendar latte with oat milk. I love coffee and espresso drinks of the like and am in no way a coffee snob, but when I tell you this is the worst latte I've ever had in my life. Like worse than the one you made when you first receive your Breville machine and don't know how to operate it. When the barista set the drink on the counter, I was greeted with an abomination. The milk was steamed to oblivion and not textured at all, just a foamy mess sitting on top. I took my drink, thanked the barista and walked outside to try it. Holding out hope that it would taste better than it looked, I put my lips to the mere wisp that was the top of the latte and took a sip. There was not a hint of Lavendar, no semblance of Lavendar ever made contact with a singular taste bud on my tongue, just a bitter blasphemy to the name of Lavendar lattes. Looking at some of the other reviews, people have received very nice looking lattes that are properly made, so I believe there is still hope when it comes to this place. We had an amazing experience at this funky, soulful cafe safely tucked away from the touristy hubbub of Solvang. At first glance, the interior is masterfully artistic- offering cool with calm...very, very interesting. The coffee drink and pot of tea were of the best quality offered and absolutely delicious. The pastries fresh and tasty... perfect for a light breakfast before strolling the streets. The barista was kind and welcoming, carefully making suggestions without overwhelming the thought process... she was obviously very good at creating the vibe and delivering on the product. Passing through Solvang, I spent a lovely morning at Cafe Joy, surrounded by art, smelling croissants baking in the oven, and overhearing the chit chat of other customers coming in and raving about their mochas. My friend & I Stopped by Cafe Joy as our go to spot had a line out the door and we decided to keep walking to go to Chomp but noticed the sign for Cafe Joy on our way & we decided to check it out as neither of us had it before. There were only a couple people in front of us & one lady working, so it was a bit of a wait, which I wouldn't have minded if the rest of the experience had been better. We finally are up to order & my friend orders a small latte and is met with a snobby "you mean a cappuccino?"... nope, she means a small latte (never a problem elsewhere). The woman begins to explain there are only two sizes, a latte or a cappuccino. She charges us for the three drinks we ordered, 2 lattes & 1 "cappuccino". It was a little bit of a wait, again due to the fact she is the only one working, also not a problem had the drinks turned out better. She put the drinks out and tried to tell me she only charged me for 2 and she would need to charge me for the 3rd... I saw her charge me for the 3 drinks on the screen and up on her order board where the square system sends the order, I am seeing "2 lattes, 1 cappuccino" - she realizes and says sorry, never mind. Fine, mistakes happen. The drinks for lack of better words, brought us no joy. There was no hint of vanilla in two of the drinks or honey in the third. And they were not at all creamy like a latte normally is. The ambiance is great & it's such a cool little spot, but fell flat for us & we will not be returning. read more
