We were blessed with "continental" style breakfast from Olson's bakery daily from our stay at Solvang Inn & cottages. For the complimentary breakfast there are about 10 different options of Danish, plus small loaf of bread?n choice of coffee, tea or milk. Plus orange juice. We didnt realize until the last day that they gave cheese, butter & jam with the bread. We loved every single Danish, though we still have a few left that we are taking home to our kids. The cheese is delicious. We saved the bread as well. One thing I wish I had known was that the coffee could be their specialty coffee. We didn't know that until pur last morning. I stopped in on a very busy Saturday morning at close to 11am and there was a line snaking out the door, which I guess is a good sign, because then all the pastries and food items are moving quickly so should keep everything fresh. I got in line behind everyone else but the good thing is that this line moved pretty fast. They had three women working and each would get your order, ring you up and move on to the next. When it was my turn, I ordered a peppermint latte as still feeling sick and also got a half loaf of their seeded pumpernickel bread (although this feels more like fitness bread now that I have eaten two slices). I wanted a sister coffee cake which they advertised but it did not exist so I chose a cinnamon crisp. The peppermint latte was made by another guy who seems his sole responsibility was beverages, so that was good thinking on the business. This drink was solid, I would get it again. The seeded fitness bread is very good, very fresh and exactly what I was looking for! I wish I had bought another half loaf of this. The cinnamon crisp was ok, a little too dry for me, but thats probably my fault. It is after all a crisp haha. After I chose my bakery items, I also went over to their gift shop and picked up a souvenir. This is a great Danish bakery in Solvang, its not Denmark, but it does remind me of the delicious items offered at Danish bakeries. Id definitely come back here again! In a town filled with Dutch pastries, this one stands above the rest. The staff is friendly and the wait wasn't terrible even on a busy morning. In addition to their pastry window on display, they have a full menu of breakfast items but we opted for the Danish delicacies. We split a cheese danish and an apple strudel. The store has a couple of seats inside and out, but overall really busy. Has a large selection, but the quality of the items were underwhelming. The ladyfinger (butter) cookie was $5.25 which was okay, it had filling inside. Nothing special. Somewhat hard to bite and crumby. Tiramisu roll cookie is $5.25, a bit pricey for a cookie. It is a crunchy almost like brittle cookie with mocha filling, did not also taste like coffee. For my first trip to Solvang, I figured I needed to try this bakery. It took 30 minutes in line on a Saturday night. When I left, the line was the same as when I got in it with 30 minutes until closing! The inside had some tables and had Christmas decorations up. I bought a few pastries and a bucket of cookies. Mark this place down if you're going to Solvang for a visit. This bakery is an absolute legend, and gem, and a must-stop for one and all. I have such great memories of coming here in the early 1990s, and now, as an adult, I have even more fondness for the history of Olsen's Bakery. My mom used to watch Huell Howser all the time, and he came here! Every bakery item I have bought here has been flavorful and fresh.
