We walked around and looked at a few of the bakeries. This one was definitely looking delicious so we got six or seven pastries to go home with us. There was a line about 10 deep, but they worked really fast getting us thru A little warm inside
This bakery was across the street from our hotel. Pastries are quite expensive and $1 more per pastry than other bakeries. They have mostly sweet options. Tried a pistachio bar and danish pastry. It had good flavor. Also got a tray of cookies to give to our family. They enjoyed them. Service was quick and friendly. They unfortunately were out of espresso drinks and only had drip coffee and hot tea bc their machine was broken.
I can easily say this is the best danish bakery in Solvang. The quality is so much better than other bakeries nearby. Always fresh and delicious. They have a variety of danishes, cookies, breads and more. There is always a line in the mornings on weekends. I love their plane cheese danish and today we also tried the cinnamon bread and it was delicious. They have indoor seating with nice ambiance. A few outdoor tables as well. They serve delicious coffee too. Good customer service.

When in Solvang, visiting bakeries is a must! We came across Olsen's Danish Village Bakery and there was a short line, which worked out perfectly since it gave us time to take a look at the bakery case and figure out what we wanted. We tried a Queen Elizabeth Tart, an almond tart with butter cream dipped in chocolate. We also got a Pistachio Square that had pistachio filling, topped with sliced almonds, and dipped in chocolate. And lastly, we got a Coconut Macaroon dipped in chocolate. My favorite was the Pistachio Square! There are lots of tables inside to sit at and enjoy your bakery items.
Loved this bakery! Great selection of coffee/latte's, sweets and bread. Not the healthiest of food but definitely the tastiest. Long line up on a Saturday morning and the tables weren't cleared and cleaned so people were sitting down at a dirty table. Please hire additional staff to bus the tables. Staff at the counter were very nice and helpful.
We were blessed with "continental" style breakfast from Olson's bakery daily from our stay at Solvang Inn & cottages. For the complimentary breakfast there are about 10 different options of Danish, plus small loaf of bread?n choice of coffee, tea or milk. Plus orange juice. We didnt realize until the last day that they gave cheese, butter & jam with the bread. We loved every single Danish, though we still have a few left that we are taking home to our kids. The cheese is delicious. We saved the bread as well. One thing I wish I had known was that the coffee could be their specialty coffee. We didn't know that until pur last morning. We were able to get Carmel macchiatos. It wasn't the greatest but still thankful. The ambiance is adorable Dutch decor. The servers were kind & attentive to each customer. Thank you!
When in Solvang, its essential to go to the local bakeries to really immerse yourself in the city. From so many to choose from, we took a chance with Olsens and we were happy with the expereince. Its very cute inside and it was a popular bakery as it was pretty packed. They go through the line quickly and they were super kind. We got a slice of the Danish Kringle and i really liked it. Apparently its one of their staple baked goods so I was immediately drawn to it. My gf got the Danish and she enjoyed it, so we were happy to have followed the crowd. There are only a couple of tables inside and they sell Danish baking good inside, but at the same time I'm not expecting to sit inside when you can walk the lovely town and enjoy your pastries. Definitely a must try in Solvang!
Classic Solvang bakery. We had breakfast here twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. It consisted of a savory roll, a sweet pastry, cheese, jam, orange juice, and coffee. It felt light but was very filling. I say if you're in Solvang, there's no reason to go anywhere else for breakfast.
I stopped in on a very busy Saturday morning at close to 11am and there was a line snaking out the door, which I guess is a good sign, because then all the pastries and food items are moving quickly so should keep everything fresh. I got in line behind everyone else but the good thing is that this line moved pretty fast. They had three women working and each would get your order, ring you up and move on to the next. When it was my turn, I ordered a peppermint latte as still feeling sick and also got a half loaf of their seeded pumpernickel bread (although this feels more like fitness bread now that I have eaten two slices). I wanted a sister coffee cake which they advertised but it did not exist so I chose a cinnamon crisp. The peppermint latte was made by another guy who seems his sole responsibility was beverages, so that was good thinking on the business. This drink was solid, I would get it again. The seeded fitness bread is very good, very fresh and exactly what I was looking for! I wish I had bought another half loaf of this. The cinnamon crisp was ok, a little too dry for me, but thats probably my fault. It is after all a crisp haha. After I chose my bakery items, I also went over to their gift shop and picked up a souvenir. This is a great Danish bakery in Solvang, its not Denmark, but it does remind me of the delicious items offered at Danish bakeries. Id definitely come back here again! And next time, will stick with danishes!
This is a fun place to stop in and get some famous award winning Danish baked goods. They have been using family recipes for over 130 years. Try the Almond horns & butter cookies

I was in town working an event and had some extra time to explore the Danish village. Since the area is known for its Danish bakeries, I couldn't leave without bringing home some cookies. I still remember buying butter cookies at the Copenhagen airport, and I've been craving that same style ever since, especially because there aren't many places near me in my area that sell them freshly made. I randomly came across Danish Village Bakery and found a tub of assorted cookies for around $20. The lady working inside helped me right away and answered my questions about which items were the most popular and whether the cookies were freshly made. She was friendly and made the visit quick and easy. You can buy Danish cookies at regular grocery stores, but these tasted completely different. They were softer, fresher, and had that rich, buttery flavor that packaged cookies are usually missing. They were even better than the airport cookies I remembered! The bakery itself had a cute, homey, old-fashioned atmosphere, and there was plenty of free parking nearby. I'm really glad I stopped in because the cookies ended up being one of my favorite treats from the trip. I would definitely return for another tub the next time I'm in town. read more

So legit! Everything looked good I wanted it all but my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I tried a piece of their signature almond danish Kringle and a raspberry cream cheese danish. So delish! This is the most popular bakery in Solvang which is warranted based on my own review. I would order more but I don't want to be diabetic. read more
my bf had been raving about the danish butter cookies from olsen's throughout our car ride to solvang, and he was 100% right about them! they are so buttery and crispy and perfectly sweetened and hiiiighly addictive !!! we both purchased our own giant bucket and have been munching away at them since our trip, and each cookie in the bucket is equally yummy! we also shared an apple streudel slice, which was nicely crispy and sweet, but pretty messy to eat and nothing outstanding i'd say. there were many other pastries offered here, alongside different coffees and teas, so there is something for everyone! me personally, i will be sticking to the yummy cookies. it was pretty crowded when we got there, but the service was really efficient and moved along quickly. the store itself has tables and chairs to enjoy your pastries, but it was a little stuffy inside and didn't feel like it had great ventilation, so we opted to eat outside instead. read more
Visited Olsen's Danish Village Bakery during our trip to Solvang and absolutely loved it. The moment you walk in, the smell of fresh pastries and butter fills the entire bakery, it truly feels like stepping into a little town in Denmark. The pastries were buttery without being overly sweet, which made them even better. Staff were friendly. If you visit Solvang, one of the "must-stop" spots is definitely Olsen's Danish Village Bakery. TLDR: It's simple things done well. I'm normally wary of going to places that tourists frequent, but this is a place that I feel matches the hype. Thoughts: I must admit that I'm not a bread person. The only reason I went here is that I had to take some tourists around. Solvang was a pretty obvious stop to make, and we found ourselves in Olsen's. I'm a believer of nailing the simple things, because you won't be able to hide it in fluff. What I liked about Olsen's bread is that they taste home made. The flavors taste exactly like what you asked for, and they don't have those added chemicals that certain establishments use to make the flavors "pop out". The bread was flaky, chewy, and an overall joy to consume. Ambiance: The tables and chairs had a cafe vibe (which is what the place is). It's clean, the bakery smelled great, and the high foot traffic means that the turnaround keeps the food fresh. Service: Straightforward. Pick your bread, ask your questions, and the staff will ring you up after getting what you asked for. read more

When you drive by Solvang, you must stop for some butter cookies. I miss the blue tin can from childhood and they didn't have any with fresh made cookies. You can always get the next best thing! Giant bucket of fresh butter cookies! Service is excellent. There is some seating. read more

In a town filled with Dutch pastries, this one stands above the rest. The staff is friendly and the wait wasn't terrible even on a busy morning. In addition to their pastry window on display, they have a full menu of breakfast items but we opted for the Danish delicacies. We split a cheese danish and an apple strudel. We also grabbed a cinnamon bread and cheesy jalapeño bread for the road. The cinnamon roll was perfection with the perfect amount of sweetness. We will certainly be back! read more

This place was heavily recommended to us, and it had the longest bakery line in town, so naturally I was curious... how good could it really be? When it was finally my turn to order, I asked the staff to put their favorites in our to-go box. I am so thankful I did because everything was a 10/10. We got a slice of kringle, a cheese danish, a raspberry danish, and lady fingers. And look, no shame, but I was planning to save some for later. We ended up eating the entire box. I also wanted to mention for anyone traveling with a dog that the sign outside says no dogs. My fiancé stayed outside with our puppy while I ordered, and then we ate outside together. The outdoor seating was in direct sun, but honestly, we didn't even notice because we were too busy scarfing down everything in the box. Definitely worth the wait and the hype! read more

We ordered quite a few pastries from here. Although the line was long, it moved very quickly. We couldn't wait to try one of them and pulled out the strawberry danish. We also grabbed one of the hot cross buns, a cherry and cheese danish, and an almond pastry. It was a good place to tie us over while waiting for the restaurant next door. Would recommend coming inside for a quick cute pastry. read more

Very quaint bakery with lots of beautiful goodies to choose from. You pick your treat and it's served to your table on a white porcelain plate. No paper plates here. Only negative is there isn't a public restroom. read more
I grabbed a fruit and cheese Danish pastry from Olsen's. There was not anything special about it. In fact, it tasted a bit stale and the pastry dough was dry and chewy, like it had been baked the day prior. The fruit part was a tad too sweet for me as well. I shall consider this a lesson in culinary self optimism. read more

The bakery has some traditional charm. Busy store, the line is a bit disorganized. The baked goods are pricier than the other bakery. The store has a couple of seats inside and out, but overall really busy. Has a large selection, but the quality of the items were underwhelming. The ladyfinger (butter) cookie was $5.25 which was okay, it had filling inside. Nothing special. Somewhat hard to bite and crumby. Tiramisu roll cookie is $5.25, a bit pricey for a cookie. It is a crunchy almost like brittle cookie with mocha filling, did not also taste like coffee. The Austrian cake ($7.50) was interesting, it has a honeycomb texture on the outside, filled with a lot of almond flavor. I will come back to try the pastries rather than the cookies. read more

I ended up ordering the Almond Horn, which was an almond cookie that was dipped in chocolate. I really enjoyed it, and it was the perfect little snack for me in the morning. For my first trip to Solvang, I figured I needed to try this bakery. It took 30 minutes in line on a Saturday night. When I left, the line was the same as when I got in it with 30 minutes until closing! The inside had some tables and had Christmas decorations up. I bought a few pastries and a bucket of cookies. My husband and I tried some cookies in our hotel room and loved them so much we went back the next morning to buy another bucket for a gift. Everything was good and fresh but was a little too sweet for my liking. I'll be back for the cookies bucket though. My favorite was the cinnamon cookies and wish I could buy a box of just those! read more

Line was out the door when we went but it went by pretty fast!! We ordered the cream cheese danish and the raspberry danish. The danishes were standard, both 4/5. The raspberry jam flavor was really pleasant and complimented the danish. We wish the danishes were more flaked and maybe warmed up but for what it was it was a danish! There's a good amount of tables inside and they have some outside. It's a cute charming bakery and they also have the buckets of danish cookies! Good stop if you're nearby! read more

Yes please! One of each. Fresh and perfect everytime. I had a raspberry and cream cheese and he had cherry and cream cheese. 4.95 a piece. Well worth it. We don't have a bakery near us that offers the variety that Olsen's has. Going back to get our cookies that are tasty Danish ones. The ingredients are understandable. tl;dr even at Solvang's most highly regarded Danish bakery, the signature pastries fail to impress After a walk through Solvang, all of the Danish bakeries start to blend together (it doesn't help that they all offer an identical lineup of pastries at similar prices). But the most popular spot is Olsen's Danish Village Bakery at the westmost end of town. Olsen's was opened by third-generation Danish baker Bent Olsen in 1970, and it remains a regionally acclaimed bakery. On a weekend morning, expect heavy pedestrian traffic between Olsen's and Paula's Pancake House next door. As with most establishments in Solvang, the exterior architecture is charmingly Danish. An intricate, kringle-motifed sign hangs from the second floor. Inside, fluorescent lights illuminate the dated, sepia-toned space. Patrons loop past day-old breads, pre-packaged butter cookies, and a Danish baker animatronic to reach the L-shaped bakery display. The off-white walls are decorated with a mismatched combination of family photos, Scandinavian knick-knacks, and framed accolades. Seating is split between laminated wood tables inside and metal patio furniture on the sidewalk. On a cool summer morning, the windows and doors are left wide. Public radio oldies are drowned out by the clamor of customers and clinking of silverware. My partner and I visited on a weekend morning and faced only a 5-minute queue, but at one point the line stretched out the door. We opted to try a few treats: the Apple Strudel, the signature Kringle, and the White Meringue. Of the three, the latter was our consensus favorite. The pleasant combination of mildly sweet flavor and light, crispy texture was a winner. Meanwhile, the other two pastries featured a light, flaky pastry, but the strudel was overwhelmed by artificial apple filling, while the vaguely almondy kringle was otherwise bland. The service was efficient, while prices were high -- we spent $15 for a few tiny treats. In the moment, we agreed that Olsen's was no better than a higher-end grocery store in terms of quality and value; really, the only reason to choose Olsen's (or any Solvang bakery) is to say that you did. read more

Hmmm. Came here because of Yelp reviews but what a disappointment. The danish we have didn't taste like it was fresh and we just have the same danish from a different bakery yesterday which was better. read more

Almond Kringle, but really there are so many choices go with what you generally like. Apple strudel is good too
