Sunday night dinner at Boca was a mixed bag. First of all, we chose to sit on the patio since it was a gorgeous, windless night in Corte Madera. My friend and I, not particularly small women, felt like children at the adult's table. We joked about the boob-to-table height ratio -- our breasts should not sit underneath the table -- either the chairs were too low or the tables were too high. Not a particularly comfortable ratio for our dining experience. So then we order cocktails -- irritatingly $9/each, but since we're celebrating 28 years of friendship, we order them anyway. We decide on the bruschetta starter* and pizza topped with mushrooms and arugula. 10 minutes -- perhaps closer to 7 minutes later the server brings our bruschetta and pizza. We had to inquire about the cocktails. Another 10 minutes before they arrive. The food was tasty. The bruschetta was a little more garlic-laden than I might have liked but the pizza crust was just right and the fresh arugula was a nice touch. After dinner, being that it was so nice out, we decided to take a walk, so thought it would be a good idea to visit the restrooms. Paper towels littered the floor, and I used up the last 6 squares of toilet paper in my stall. I let the host know about the state of the restroom on our way out. She seemed attentive, and immediately went to the back of the house after she bid us a good evening. Given the relative dearth of outdoor restaurants in Marin, I may return. I ordered the gnocchi with pesto sauce and it was terrible... it tasted like rolled balls of old mashed potatoes. When I told them it was bad, they took it back and gave me a new menu. When they came back to see what I wanted to order (a sandwich, cuz I hoped it was a safer bet) they said they stopped serving sandwiches past 3! It was 3:10 and they couldn't even make an exception. Also, why give me a menu if you're not even serving lunch anymore?? Cheesecake Factory down the block is a better option. At least you know what you're getting there. The table next to us abruptly got up to leave when the manager told them she needed their table for a party with a reservation. 30 minutes later the manager began pacing nervously around our table asking if we needed take-out boxes, which was weird because we had just gotten our food. A few minutes later she came to our table and she needed us to leave because there were people "waiting outside in the rain who had a reservation." As we were gathering up our stuff she circled our table glaring at us. When our friend told her we would've been happy to vacate earlier if we'd known they needed it by a certain time (giving her a chance for service recovery) she reiterated that our time was up and she needed our table. You know this place was just sort of ok. I really like the Boca in Novato. It's brighter, looks more inviting. This Boca's is kind of dark and quiet. My pizza was pretty good. My associate said her soup was too salty but she really like the brussle sprouts appetizer. There's lots of seating and it's located on the outer part of the mall, so you don't actually have to go into the mall to find it. There are quite a varied number of stars for this place but after going once, i thought it was well worth the time and price. Got a margherita (have to get a basic pizza to judge its quality) which was slightly thicker than the neapolitan style I'm use to but it was decent nonetheless. I have only been here a couple of times and had garlic flatbread, mac/cheese and salads.The servers are friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is casual, clean, and busy at lunch time. I really love the homemade garlic flatbread with parmesean cheese and marinara sauce on the side. The starter is like four slices of pizza with just parmesean and so tasty! I really enjoyed the side of truffled mac and cheese, delicious. As for salads, I love a restaurant that offers you two sizes because the smaller one is always more than enough for me. My favorites are the Boca salad with pears, apples, chicken, raisins, walnuts & goat cheese crostini (although I wish chicken and walnuts would have been more generous) and the organic roasted beet salad. One having Gorgonzola Cheese and Prosciutto, the other having Roasted Sun dried tomatoes and garlicky Aioli, and lastly one with arugula and anchovies fish. The lil ones ordered the Mac and Cheese while Wifey and I split a Mediterranean pizza with Fennel Sausage as an add on. The pizza dough was hand tossed and cooked in a brick oven. The Mediterranean pizza and Artichoke hearts, Grilled eggplants, and a Garlic sauce. The crust was thin and had a crisp every time I took a bite. The place had a nice ambiance and would be a great place for Wine or an afternoon drink because their patio looked inviting. The drink menu and wine menu looked extensive. We went to Boca Pizzeria for the Yelp summer party. We had been to Boca several times prior to the Yelp party, but this was a great reminder to write a review. We sat outside on the patio, which is quite roomy and has a wonderful awning that provides shade. This is a great area to relax and have drinks and/or dinner during the summer months. The inside of the restaurant is also very nice and roomy. There are both booths and tables, a nice bar, an open kitchen and a great open feeling. There would be no problems bringing a large group to this restaurant (obviously since they held the Yelp party). For the venue, I would rate this restaurant a 4. The service during the party was quick and efficient. That came as no surprise since we have always received great service. I would rate the service a 4. The food was good. Not "make your eyes water" amazing, but good. Many thoroughly enjoy the pizza - and that is basically my issue. I am not a pizza person, so it is truly hard for me to be amazed with that type of food. That said, I do recognize that the pizza breading was fresh and had a toasted flavor. I believe they have a wood fired oven. The best item on the menu was the mushroom ravioli. So I would rate the food a 3. They also played heavy rock during lunch hour...a bit odd and not a nice ambiance. Food wise-- with the appetizer we ordered a Caesar salad. Instead, we received 3 stalks of romaine lettuce, light green didn't look fresh- with cheese and dressing. I've never seen a salad like this before, and I don't think you can call this is a salad. For $11, the salad was without a question overpriced because one, it wasn't a salad, and two, it wasn't tasty, or fresh, and was way too small. I've had better Prosciutto pizza. It tasted as if the dough wasn't fresh and more so frozen, and there was not enough of fresh prosciutto either to call it a prosciutto pizza. Went with 2 other people and we were all pleasantly surprised! The grilled whole artichoke starter was impeccable! Delicious and refined. I loved the charred taste mixed with fresh squeezed lemon and a creamy tarragon dip. I have never had such a good "grown up" whole artichoke like that (it's usually over-boiled with a side of butter or mayonnais. Pass!) Can't go wrong with their meat/pepperoni pizzas and I absolutely fell in love with the brussel sprout, prosciutto, and ricotta pizza. Would definitely go again. read more

This used to be one of our favorite places to go. NOT anymore. We would go several times a year. I know that isn't a lot, but it is a drive and with traffic, it can take some time. We went for my birthday lunch this last time. We ordered Ceasar salads and pizzas, like we always do. The salad dressing has changed and not for the better. It was oily and blah, not creamy and flavorful like it used to be. They used to ask if you wanted fresh ground pepper on your salad, but now you get to do it yourself, that is, if you have a pepper grinder on your table and if it has peppercorns in it. We did not have one, so we got one from another table (empty) and then had to ask another table if we could borrow their's. The waiter brought a Margarita pizza to the table, not what we ordered. After I got his attention and asked what it was, he said oh, sorry. He took the pizza away to the kitchen and a couple of minutes later, took the same pizza to another table. My pizza, that I have always ordered, was the sausage and mushroom (a sausage and pepperoni, but substituting the mushrooms for the pepperoni). The waiter wrote it up as a Margarita adding the sausage and mushrooms. This made it $5 more. The pizza crusts were thinner and overcooked. The sausage was in chunks, not little pieces all over, like it was before. My husband's BBQ chicken pizza did seem to have more toppings, but was still overcooked and thinner. We each took half of our pizza home. It was a bit better later in the evening, after it sat in the box and 'steamed' the crust a bit to soften the cardboard crust. After the disappointing lunch, we decided to skip dessert and we usually do get one. They must have new cooks in the kitchen or they are trying to cut down on their food costs. Everything just seemed 'off'. So, sorry to say, I can no longer recommend this place. There are better, less expensive places for us to spend our time and money. read more

Ok so my photos accidentally got deleted but trust me, they have the best outdoor patio in Marin. Bistro lights, heating lamps, a fire pit, huge comfy couches in a large enclosed and covered area. It was a warm day and I loved eating on their patio and relaxing with a glass of sparkling wine. The veggies are fantastic here. I felt like a light meal so I got a side of cauliflower, side of Brussel sprouts and a side of yams. All had amazing but different fresh herbs and were perfectly roasted and caramelized. I could only eat half as the portions were very large for each one. It made for great leftovers the next day. I can't wait to go back and do it all over again. read more

After 45 mins we asked the host where our food was, he sent the server and he came out and said "whaaat you guys didn't get you're food?" Then another 15 goes by and just the pizza shows up. If I could give zero stars I would. We went with family as a pre Thanksgiving dinner. My order was not served with the others (13 people). Arriving late, the order was wrong and sent back. When I finally was given what I had ordered, the family was nearly done with their meals. I was frustrated by then, but family encouraged me to eat and were willing to wait for me. Yet to make it worse, the food was way too hot (temperature) that it burned my lips, mouth and throat. By the time we left (I ate 3 bites) and arrived at our hotel, my throat was sore and swollen, and I was still was hungry but now hurting and miserable. My husband found his meal lacking in substance and ended up ordering at the hotel while I sit and munched on ice. The Brschetta was the worst I have ever had, the calamari were like flavorless chewing gum and the pecorino flan was also not a winner. The pizza crust was too thick, there was not enough sauce, cheese or toppings....it was just too much bread! We also tried the half chicken which was fine, but it was nothing to write home about. The sides were the only winners on the menu. We tried them all and loved each of them. Bocca needs to change their menu up to be competitive in Marin. Terrible service. My daughter who lives in Marin County while attending college, suggested we go to Boca Pizzeria for dinner. The place is clean and was half empty when we got there around 5:15 p.m. We were promptly seated near a window with a view to the patio. Our waitress (Melanie), a young female came by to take our order. She did not write anything down, she just listened to what we ordered. We started by placing our order for drinks of ice tea and a coke. For appetizers we had the "octopus" and a Caesar salad. The food order for the main dishes were chicken pizza, flat iron steak, veggies & mash potatoes and a pear salad. The waitress forgot to enter our appetizer order so the "octopus" appetizer never made it to our table. We got the rest of our food which was delivered to our table by another gentleman but our waitress was nowhere to be found. We had to flag down the hostess to get a steak knife to cut the steak and only at that time did our waitress came to our table. Our drinks were never refilled and frankly we were left to fend for ourselves. I think our waitress should use pen and paper next time to take orders and not rely on her memory. The food was delicious!!! Everything was made perfectly. Sadly the service provided by the waitress was horrible. We paid our bill that came to be $65.19 and left the waitress no tip. The place was so empty we should have had a clue that something had changed. Terrible service, obviously now run by amateurs--we ordered our drinks and appetizers which came relatively quickly. We then ordered our salads and entrees which arrived before we were half way through our starters. Sent them back. When they did arrive at the appropriate time they were terrible --reheated but cold. We sent the pizza back. I NEVER send food back but this was so disappointing. And the food was also not as good as it used to be. Too bad. On Saturday at lunch time I took my 90 year old Grandma to Boca. The servers, manager and staff could not have been more accommodating! They provided us with an easy table, stored her walker and we had an adorable waiter who brought our food (and my wine) quickly! Though they were swamped by the time our food was served not once did we feel at all rushed. I had the Brussels Sprout and Pancetta Pizza and Gma had the grilled salmon sandwich. Both delicious. As we were leaving the manager and another server held the double doors wide for Gma and her walker, and could not have been nicer. Thank you for a terrific experience and good food!
