I took my wife to Boca House for Valentine's Day, and we were honestly surprised at how empty it was. Normally when we visit, it's a full house -- but shortly after being seated, we started to understand why. We noticed the menu had changed, so I'm not sure if they brought in a new chef. We ordered the croquettes (which have always been our favorite), a ribeye steak, and a picanha bowl. The croquettes came out room temperature, which was disappointing right from the start. The ribeye, ordered medium, was pink but extremely dry -- it honestly seemed like it may have been pre-cooked and then reheated. To make matters worse, the steak is served already cut, which doesn't allow it any time to rest and retain its juices. The picanha bowl was also dry and tough to chew. It's a shame when establishments that were once consistently very good go through changes like this. Unfortunately, for the prices they charge, the quality just wasn't there this time. Overall bocas house was solid choice. Nothing stuck out to me and nothing was awful. My meal of choice was the churrasco. I loved the cook on it. Very tender very easy to cut and chew, just needed more flavor. The rice and beans were extremely bland, again, more flavor needed. I didn't care for the chimichurri sauce. Way too oily, and again no flavor. Their service was good and we went on a day where it wasn't so busy. Very friendly staff. Would I go back? Maaaaannn I really wanted to like Bocas but I left extremely disappointed. This spot has been on my bookmarked list for three years, and I finally decided to check it out today. Sadly, it didn't live up to the hype. We started strong the passion fruit sangria was phenomenal and lived up to the reviews. We also ordered the bao octopus appetizer, which was surprisingly delicious and well-cooked. But things went downhill fast. My son ordered the ribs, and they came out still frozen. When we brought it to our waitress's attention, she casually responded, "Oh okay, we can make another one." No real apology or urgency. My son ended up switching to a burger instead. I ordered the ribeye with rice, beans, and avocado, but the beans never made it to the table. Not a huge deal in itself, but it added to the growing list of issues. The worst part? At one point, our waitress stuck her bare hands into the rice cooker to grab a bite for herself we saw her try to turn her back to hide it, but it was very obvious. That was a huge turn-off and honestly, unhygienic and unacceptable. To top it all off, the place had a lot of fruit flies and it was uncomfortably warm inside. Food-wise, it wasn't terrible. I'm new to the ceviche scene so I've been on the prowl. My daughter suggested Bocas. We were warmly welcomed in and told we could pick a seat. We had some very good pork gyoza. I was happy to see a trio of ceviche. You could choose to get it non spicy all the way up to burn your throat spicy. We don't like spice, only flavor. My favorite was the fourth ceviche. I came here with some friends during their lunch specials. The restaurant is located inside a very nice plaza with many other stores and vendors. Inside was quaint and there was seating available both inside and outside. The lunch specials run from 11:30 to 4 pm, which is amazing. We visited this location night 2 of our trip to South Florida. The restaurant can get really crowded, so get reservations, especially if you're visiting on the weekend. I originally wanted to go to Bocas House for the crazy milkshake drinks they have. They're very "IG-able". My belly was too full from all the eating I did earlier in the day; plus the time-zone change is really messing with me. While at Bocas House, we did dine on the fried pork belly and fried cassava. My son-in-law had been wanting to try Bocas House for awhile so we decided to celebrate his birthday here. I'm really glad we made a reservation because they were packed on a Sunday at 6. We were greeted at the outside podium and seated right away. Our server showed up within minutes and took our drink order. Between the three of us we ordered a sparkling passion fruit sangria and two sparkling white sangrias. The drinks were large and excellent. For food we ordered the pork croquetas and parrilla mixta to share. The food was definitely the highlight here. The board came with porterhouse, chicken breast, ribs, chorizo, blood sausage, cole slaw, corn, fries and three additional side choices. Every single thing was delicious. My daughter and SIL even ate the blood sausage which they swore they would never eat again. For dessert we ordered the cookies and cream milkshake. The milkshakes look fantastic with all of the treats added to the top but the actual shake was lacking. It was probably the thinnest shake I've ever had. When I order a $20.00 milk shake I expect it to be thick and smooth and refreshing. This was the consistency of melted ice cream. Partner and I stopped by Bocas House Weston for lunch, a restaurant based upon foods of Latin origin with a leaning toward Argentina. Bocas isn't much to look at. Both the patio and interior floors were in need of a good sweeping, but that was because lunch hours were just ending and they had a lot of unruly children tossing things around. The place, with the exception of on wall, lacks any décor and the suspended ceiling is pretty much of a fright to look at. They have both a lunch and dinner menu, plus a Kid's Menu. All the menus are very complete with something for every palate. I chose from the lunch menu as its prices were basically half those of the dinner menu plus I liked what I saw. For my lunch, I went for their Revolution Steak Skillet coming with a 6-ounce grilled Picanha, Wok rice with spinach, French fries, melted cheese, and topped with a fried egg. I had ordered it rare and to my delight, it came rare, which because it was so thin, had to be tricky for the chef to get it right, but he did. The flavor of the steak was fabulous; a good rich meaty flavor. And the Wok rice with spinach also proved delicious. Then, priced at only $15.99, a total bargain. I always have a wonderful time dining at the Bocas brand restaurants. Portion sizes are huge, every dish is cooked to perfection, and the menu is extensive with delectable entrees that make it so hard to choose. They also have monstrous milkshakes that are fun to drink with a group, or by yourself if you're really up for the challenge. I ordered the Lomo saltado with fettuccine pasta, one of my favorites as they are great with their Peruvian food. It was delicious! My family members had a porthouse steak as well as the fajitas, also well enjoyed. I also enjoyed my side of maduros. There was a thick chicken soup that we shared as an appetizer, and I can't get it out of my head. It was that good. Service was responsive and quick, and food was served in a timely manner. Space is ample for large or smaller parties, and seating was without a wait on the Sunday afternoon time that we went. It is located in Weston Town Center, so a perfect place to dine and shop. I can't wait to come back here during my next trip down to Fort Lauderdale to visit my family, I know I will always have a great time!
