Bocca is a great restaurant! Not only is the food wonderful, but the ambiance is great and the staff is always very helpful.

First time trying Bocca. We ordered online through their website for pickup. Food was ready at the scheduled time. We got the fried risotto and veal meatballs for appetizers. Both were delicious. We had the short rib, the eggplant lasagne and the steak. Everything was very nicely cooked and presented. Food is delicious. Absolutely recommend Bocca. read more

My husband and I called around 6pm on 12/23 to get a reservation as we were en route to Birmingham. We were able to get a 7:45 reservation and we went on to have a drink at the bar before being seated. When we arrived we met the owner/chef at the door he was so kind. The bar has a wonderful wine list and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the Italian wines I was not familiar with. She made a perfect recommendation. My husband commented on the nice whiskey selection offered and he enjoyed a glass of Blanton's. We were seated around 7:15. Both the sommelier and chef made recommendations for us. We started with the Burrata and Prosciutto followed by the Linguini Carbonara. My husband had the veal chop and I had the short ribs. Every bit of the food was amazing. 3rd evening at Bocca in as many months. Each dinner better than the previous. Arancini have been a must, bolognese shared with table and then the pork porchetta & short rib as entrees. We finished with the tiramisu dessert. We enjoyed the botánica and La spezia cocktails. Food & drinks could not have been better Our server was Tatum, she was fantastic. Had Valentine's dinner with my wife here. Sorry to say but the food and atmosphere were terrible. The atmosphere feels like they took all the furniture from a Marriott courtyard and put it in the restaurant. The food was just as bad. Lobster risotto was overly seasoned and far too rich. The "steak" was overcooked for medium rare. Considering it was as thick as a napkin it would have been impossible to cook it properly. The fish was overly salted. Chocolate lava cake ?? Come on guys this is an outdated dish that was not even executed well. read more

Love this place! My friend got the carbonara and I got the tagliatelle I'll coniglio both dishes were flavorful without the unnecessary saltiness in most restaurant's dishes. I throughly enjoyed the cocktails we order. We definitely be back and recommend this place to my friends. read more

Excellent service, great food, AND very safe environment despite what another very ignorant person may say. Bocca is 1/2 capacity, tables are spaced at least 6 feet from each other, and all of the employees wear masks. Guests are checked for temperatures at the front door and masks are required when entering. I know from speaking to our server, every employee is regularly tested. We support local restaurants in our area and encourage everyone in Birmingham to do so as well, especially in these trying times. read more

Did not make it past the hostesses. We are not from Birmingham and were looking for a place to eat on a Friday evening. We walked passed a few restaurants that were full to capacity, so we walked to Bocca. Asked if we could have a table and they said my husband would have to check his hat. Now, mind you, it's 6:25pm and there might have been 4 tables sat. We are definitely not afraid of an expensive meal as my husband is in the restaurant business. We declined the hat check, very nicely. As we were turning to leave the hostess screams out "Oh Wow" multiple times. Like we were trash so I in turn said Oh Wow back to her, then came a litany of back and forth between us. Very unprofessional front of house hosts. Acting as if they were doing us a favor. And, she had no idea what color my American Express card is either. I've never been spoken to like that at any restaurant I've patronized. I understand rules and dress codes, although there was no mention anywhere of said dress code. Maybe teach you staff to not berate potential customers. read more

My husband and I recently tried Bocca for the first time. We went with two other couples and sat in their back patio area. I had no idea they had a patio space but it was so cute and such a nice option to have. The format of the menu is appetizers, Primi and Secondi. They explained the apps and Primis were for sharing and typically Secondi was for entree. Our group split all of the appetizers they had to offer and I found the beef carpaccio was fabulous and I also loved their burrata. They waitress was extremely helpful and made some great drink recommendations. They also had their sommelier give us a recommendation for a bottle of wine. My husband and I shared a pasta dish, the carbonara, and I got the halibut and risotto fish special. I loved that the carbonara had an actual deep fried egg on top, quite a unique addition. We were quite stuffed after all the apps and entrees as didn't want any dessert, but our friends raved about the crunch donut. We will certainly be back again in the future. read more

Everyone was so friendly, truly seemed like everyone loved their job, which is sadly rare these days. The food was excellent. Bocca was amazing! The service, ambiance and, of course, the food were all top notch!

The food here is fantastic, but I've had issues with the service on both of my visits. I found the server's explanation of Italian courses to be condescending, and I didn't enjoy being shamed for ordering pasta. In Italy, no one treats you like you're stupid if you just order pasta as opposed to an antipasto AND pasta AND a "main" meat course (and dessert... and drinks...). Yet our server at Bocca just stared at me as if it were unheard of to eat pasta as an entree rather than an appetizer. I know how hungry I am, how much I want to eat, and how much I want to spend, so I don't need to be treated like a cheapskate by a server who is pressuring me to buy and eat more than I want. It's fairly standard to see items on Italian restaurant menus listed as antipasti, primi, and secondi, even in the States, so I wish Bocca would stop pushing this as some kind of unique "concept" and resisting people's ability/right to order as they like from the menu. The food is absolutely delicious; I just hope they can adjust the approach they take here in their service. read more

We have lived in Birmingham for 30 years and eaten in most of the well-recognized restaurants. Our meal last evening was the best meal we have eaten locally. The pasta dishes (basil pomodoro and squid ink) were nicely prepared al dente and flavorful. The entrees (cioppino and veal tenderloin) were cooked as we requested. The veal was tender and tasty in contrast to most tougher cuts of veal that rely on sauces for taste. Great girls night! We ordered the risotto balls and meat balls as apps, and the short ribs and garganelli with asparagus as entrees. Our server let us know we could add meat to any of the pasta courses, so we added shrimp. It was delicious! I'd recommend each dish! read more

You had me at homemade pasta! Wonderful addition to downtown restaurant scene. Gorgeous space, thoughtful placement of tables for social distancing. The best service we have had in ages, extra special thanks to Tim who took great care of this family of four on 6/26. We ordered arancini, carpaccio, burrata with prosciutto to start, followed by the Alfredo, carbonara and the beef short ribs for our main. Desserts were just perfect, restrained but thoughtful ( the basil strawberry sorbetto with the most wonderful almond biscotti that I swear had almond paste in them) and the pistachio ice cream and cannoli. Great place with well thought out food. Good looking bar that we will visit when we come sans children. Hope to be able to put this place in our fine dining rotation. Everything came out perfectly prepared. Our table had ordered the veil meatballs and they were delicious!! Little bit of spice paired with the marinara was perfect. I hosted a private event at Bocca one evening in late January and I cannot speak highly enough about this amazing restaurant. The chef, Tom, is just as personable as he is talented. Every request I made to create a more personalized feel for my guests was granted. Most of my guests had never been to Bocca before so their first experience was a real treat. They couldn't believe how authentic and delicious the Northern Italian cuisine was. Fan favorite was the spice meatball appetizer and fresh foccacia as they arrived. The entire waitstaff was excellent, with our head waiter Travis leading the charge. He shared with me that he had a previous background in event planning so he understood the flow of a private event and how quickly things can change in an instant. He was more than wonderful and I truly believe that he was the cherry on top to our wonderful night. Whether planning an intimate dinner party or relaxed dinner for two, this place is my favorite in Birmingham. read more
