Bodega R Ranch market was ok. The store needs to be mopped and the shelves need to be more organized! The food section was ok but it didn't catch my attention! The ambiance was ok but the music was too loud for that type of store! The cashier was friendly but didnt speak English. Overall it was a good experience but the store needs to get cleaned. Clean and bright is Bodega R Ranch market! I stopped by to check their lengua (Cow tongue) and honeycomb tripe prices as of today. I don't buy these cuts of meat/innards often so I'm not sure how much is too much, but I took some photos in case you're interested like I am! Overall, this market is comparable to other Mexican markets that I've been to such as Northgate and Super King in terms of the meats, cheese, fresh tortilla, bakery goods, hot foods, and produce. I didn't see any lamb or goat... perhaps it was a really small section that I missed it, but at Northgate, there is usually goat head cross sections, hearts, etc. But I didn't see that here so I took a star off. Today 6/19/20, the price for lengua is $6.99/lbs regular price and I don't know for sure but seems a bit high so I'll see how their competitors do in a few days. However, this is the closest Mexican market so if the price isn't that off, Bodega is a place I'll come back to because it's clean and bright :)! read more

We come mainly for their marinated meats. The price is good. Decent selection of Mexican items. Lots more than you'll find at a regular grocery store. The veggies and fruits are pricey. I would shop elsewhere for them. Customer service is average. Parking lot is decent size. It's difficulty to turn in going north from walnut. Great pupusas! Wish they answered the phone for to go!! Great little market- when you walk in they have the sweet bread straight ahead. To the left is the bakery, deli, meat department and food to go stand. If you come for the pupusas be prepared to have at least 20-25 minutes to spare. The pupusas are large, freshly made, and delicious but again you need to have time in your hands. This isn't a get in and get out thing. Unfortunately they don't answer the phone to take a to go order and they only put ONE person to manage the stand. And there can be a line when you arrive or many orders ahead of you. That's why it takes time. Suggestion is to walk around the store and pick up some groceries you may need or explore the aisles because you will be waiting for the pupusas. Make sure you get the three to make it worth your while. You can always save what you don't eat and reheat for dinner lol. They give you the salsa and cabbage toppings too with your order. :) enjoy and don't say I didn't warn you about the wait (unless management got the hint to add another person). read more

WARNING: For those who go here to buy meat and sea food. Lady at the meat section grabbed ground beef, then proceeded to grab shrimp using the same glove. I use raw shrimp to make aguachile, so now that I know there is cross contamination with with ground beef and the sea food, I am never going back here again. If I could I put zero stars I would!! I came and waited to get water and the man in the blue button up working refused to help me and my friend. I'm guessing the man is homophobic because I speak Spanish and was polite but he decided to let me and friend wait for 15 mins and kept saying the other worker would help us but she was busy and running around doing things. the bald man in the button up said to wait and had a horrible attitude towards us but would be soooo nice to others. I went on a mission to purchase Pupusas one day and Bodega R Ranch market was my last stop. Luckily, I got what I wanted here. Living in Irvine poses a tremendous challenge when you want to pop down the street to purchase any South American cuisine on the cheap. One day, I had a crazy hankering for Pupusas and Tamales and decided to go to the largest ( by sq footage ) Mexican supermarket I knew of which was Superior in Santa Ana. I showed up at 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon and they were sold out of Pupusas and all but one kind of Tamale. Disappointing. Next stop was Northgate, also in Santa Ana. They didn't sell Pupusas here but there was a nice Tamale lady and I got my Tamale fix here. But ever on the search for Pupusas, I arrived at the closest of the three markets to my home: This Bodega R Ranch market. The outside of this market is misleading. It actually looks pretty small but inside, this market is a really good size. The building is divided with the market on the right side near the entrance, and hot foods/prepared foods/carniceria on the left near the exit. Disappointingly, Bodega was out of all but Jalapeno/Cheese tamales. I did get a couple of them and they were pretty good... but nothing mind blowing. The Masa was a bit dry but the Tamales were a great size. Behind where the Tamales are purchased is a Juice "Stand" of sorts. This is where they make the Pupusas. After a bit of language barrier communications ( I spoke English, they spoke Spanish ) I ended up writing down my order. 2 x Pupusas Frijoes, 2 x Pupusas Queso, 2 x Pupusas Chicharron. Let me tell you: These Pupusas are TASTY. These ladies make the Pupusas MASSIVE. I'm talking the size of a Styrofoam take out container. And they really hooked it up with the pickled veggies and Ranchero sauce. Not only that, but the Pupusas are DELICIOUS. Crunchy on the outside and warm and delicious on the inside. The veggies are the perfect blend of sour with a touch of spice and added crunch. These Pupusas really hit the spot. I will absolutely be back for Pupusas. Tamales, maybe not so much. Their salsa selection looked on point, too. I will definitely be trying some next time. read more

Someone told me that this place has awesome prices for fruit and veggies so I stopped by to check it out. Although I wasn't blown away by the produce section I was quite happy to find some yummy items at the deli. I bought 2 rotisserie chickens and the young man wanted some drumettes. On the way home, the smell wafting from the rotisserie chicken was enough for me to pull over and just attack it right then and there. However, I controlled myself. The young man kept saying 'ohhhhhhhh it smells sooooo good. Is that the chicken mommy?" I said 'yup" he goes "I'm SOOOOOOOO hungry now" and he had just devoured some zaru soba about 10 minutes ago. If I was in the area I'll definitely stop by here again. The chicken tasted as delicious as it smelled. Plus, they give you some salsa which goes perfectly well with the chicken. Yep, this place does have awesome prices for fruit and veggies as evidenced by their weekly flyer, but you'll have to shop here early on Wednesdays to get in on the flyer deals. At lunch time, parking spots become a rare commodity and navigating the store and getting out of here in less than an hour seems almost impossible... it's that busy. I walked up to the entrance today to witness the deli ladies out at the front of the store ladling iced limeade, lemonade and horchata into plastic cups. BTW, the deli is in the front on the left, the meat case and butcher is on the left side and the produce section is on the right side. When I priced chicken and green chili tamales at the farmers market today for 3@$5 and went into a minor shock, I was happy to see the signage above the deli check out here says 12@$15.99. That's .33 cents less per tamale, folks. I came in to buy a wedge of parm, but it was a no go. I did discover though they had a bag of garlic with 5 bulbs for $1 which is a great price and then found other great prices on watermelon, roma tomatoes, limes, and white corn and onions. read more

I love this place. I don't think that they have varieties of everything as the larger chains bit they always have the small things I'm missing for dinner and it's a quick drive around the corner for me. Their bakery is probably the best part of this place. I purchased my daughters bday cake from their bakery. It was a 3 leches cake. They loved it and the family loved it. It was the right amount of moist and flavor....not overpowering sweet. We live their pan dulce and bolillos. They are always fresh and ready to go. We enjoy these for an easy dinner of Tortas. Their deli section is decent. I have tried their carnitas value deal; 2lb carnitas, Rice and beans for $20. Not bad and the carnitas are surprisingly good. They're fresh and not dry. Some stuff tends to be a bit pricier than the lager stores/chains. It's definitely worth it to go here for small items in a time crunch but I prefer driving to Superior or Staters where I may be able to find a better deal for my money or more variety. The staff is friendly. Occasionally, the owner of the place is taking care of customers. He's friendly and takes time to make customers feel welcome. read more

It is perfect for an easy and delicious meal of "make your own tacos". I love this place! It's both a grocery store and a little restaurant. There's a little table set up so you can sit and eat if you choose. The staff is great- the guys are respectful, but will go out of their way and double your portions for a smile. The food tastes like home cooked meals and everything is fresh. My Mom and I came here to buy ingredients to make our Christmas tamales; she ended up making the red sauce from scratch this year & we ended up having to use pork instead of beef...but with what we were able to buy here, they ended up being the absolute best she's ever made! They have insanely cheap prices and carry so many cool products; I could have spent hours just looking around checking everything out. I loved the bread basket filled with dinner rolls and the Mexican cookies & sweet breads were a huge hit at our holiday party. They have a tailor on-site which is awesome.
