I have had their steamed banana leaf wrapped pork tamale twice. The masa and the meat inside the tamale is well apportioned, delicious, and moist at every bite. The best local tamales that I ever had. Other eateries have too much masa and less meat and vice versa, small sized with no flavor. I wish they can make a sweet corn tamale or platanos con mole tamale or Nuegados (orange scented) based tamale. read more

We had family come down to Disneyland and we wanted some Guatemalan tamales . We got a bunch of pork tamales and a couple of chicken tamales. They were moist and good sized .The beans were good and also a good portion. We got lucky and they did accept card. The passion fruit agua Fresca was delicious as well read more

I totally forgot to leave my review on this place as I have been there so many times! First I gotta forewarn it's a mom and pop shop type of vibe so be ready to pay in cash only because they don't take card..also they don't have someone who speaks English every day so be prepared to speak Spanish or use your phone translator if you can. I ordered the pious as from here because a friend of mine told me they were great and growing up in Santa Ana mom and pop shops are the best and boy was he right! The cash only and trying to make my order in Spanglish was worth it because they made my pupusas fresh to order and they were piping hot so be careful because I made the mistake of biting right into one and ouuuuuch in a good way tho! Lol pupusa was perfect just the right amount of chicarron and queso and the revuelto that my daughter ordered she said it was on point! It had jus enough grease so it wasnt too dry it was perfect! The other sad part is they only serve pupusas the weekends only so if your have a hankering for pupusas you got to wait in til Saturday and Sunday 8am to 7pm just a heads up hope this help but go and try for yourself don't just take my word for it! read more

For a Guatemala bakery and food, this is the only place I have been able to find in Orange County. The bread is good but sometimes you come across a stale hard bread so be on the lookout, the food is okay but it can be very expensive. Just a small note: don't go to this bakery without cash! This is a little slice of Guatemala. We go there for champuradas, pan chapín, tamales, pan francés y otras cosas chapines. You can eat a meal there, too, at one of three tables. They speak English, but few customers do. I'm not Chapina myself and I'm transported to Guatemala every time I go there. Worth a visit. Costs less than a plane ticket for authentic Guatemalan cuisine and environment. Very busy on weekends. read more

The set up is not inviting or actually it is really confusing how the set up works. We arrived early morning and the line was already coming out of the bakery. No signs no nothing, just a lot of ppl in a line. Inside, it appeared, it had only 2 ppl helping customers. Yet after 5 minutes nothing happened. I didn't even smell anything fleshly baked. I have been coming to this bakery for quite a while now, was encouraged to write a review after reading the negative ones from a couple years ago. Not sure if management has changed or anything but the quality of food has always been great. Although I love great customer service I can see where some may have been discouraged .. the ladies behind the counter seem motivated to take your order and get you home which is fine by me! They're never rude, they're fast and efficient! I know I'm not at the grocery store where the checker is required to ask "if I found everything alright" so I go home perfectly content with my order! Food time! I have only had their baked goods, tamales and pupusas which are all terrific! I'm getting hungry just writing about them! Oh! Also they're tamrindo (tamarind drink) ! this place is relatively cheap. I normally come here for the chicken tamales ($2) and ATOL DE ELOTE (hot corn drink). the corn drink has the right consistency of whole milk, sugar, and corn. I get really excited about the drink because i cannot find it elsewhere. The tamale is different. by different, it is guatemalan style, so don't expect the typical mexican tamale. It depends on your preference. I like their tamale because it has a lot of moisture and it is wrapped in banana leaves. A lot of their baked goods are cheap as well (from what i remember 3 for $1). I do not recommend sitting in there because it is very compact. just get in and get out. I advise you bring a friend that speaks spanish (this helps a lot). Overall, food is good for what you pay for. unfortunately there isn't a price for you to see beforehand. once again, make sure to get the CORN DRINK!!!! read more

My family an I have been customers her for years. It's difficult to find Guatemalan food local. Unfortunately the quality since the new owners toke the business has dropped significantly. I had a work event where we had to take authentic food from our countries. I placed an order for Chile rellenos worst WORST read this worst... ever The chiles were flat and burnt. Never will I go back. It was extremely embarrassing to have my co-workers taste them. The customer service was terrible it fell short to say the least. Money hungry businesses never make it in my opinion prices have raised and quality has dropped. I would be willing to pay if it was good. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! read more

I only go here for the warm corn drink aka Atole de elote. SO YUMMY! But only if i'm not already running late for work. Note, they only serve it during the morning, not all day. Today i had their tamal de pollo... i am not sure what that was. I ate half of it. And by "half" i mean, the sections that did not have the sauce (wasn't good) and i left all the chicken because it tasted bad...and i kept getting bones on the chicken. NOT gonna order that again. Bread: I haven't tried their bread so i cannot comment on the taste. But it looks like the bread has been there forever. Like they make one fresh batch and the rest are left overs. True, it's not the cleanest, but it's okay. 3 tables. They each seat 4 people. Prices: NO IDEA. They are not posted anywhere. They just add total on calculator. It's very tiny place but there is always plenty of parking. This is not a "sit down restaurant" since they only have 3 tables but you can take your food to go. 5 stars for the pupusas. They are made when you order them so they are nice & fresh. They do have a 20 minute wait since they make them when you order them but you can bypass that by making an order over the phone & they will be ready when you arrive. I always get chicarron (pork) & queese. Be aware that they only make pupusas Friday-Sunday. They are one of the best pupusas out there right now. 3 stars for the platano frito. This is a great place for some authentic Guatemalan food! They have Chiles Rellenos with finely shredded beef in them and not just cheeses like you may find in other places. They have Guatemalan bread and products like frozen jocotes! And they make some of the best pupusas I've ever had. Of course they also have Guatemalan tamales but I can't say I've tried those yet. Be prepared to wait as this is a small place with limited space. Calling ahead may help but good things are worth waiting for. read more

After passing by so many times, I decided to check out the food. My first Guatemala cuisine experience. I liked the chuchitos, which is a tamale. The masa is not greasy like the Mexican version, and they seasoned the masa so it is tasty. I also had the plantanos fritos with mashed black beans and sour cream. That was delicious. The pan dulce with pineable jam in the middle was very nice. I plan to return to try the chicken soup, which they only have on Sundays, and the pacaya (fritter date palm tassles). The price is very cheap. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They speak good English. read more

I drove from rancho Santa Maria to try this place since I see how good it was since I seen so many good ads but sad to say the service was horrible the chow main was salty the bread was not good the tamales was ok I will not go to this place again! If you really want to eat some real good Guatemala food go to la gualtamanteca bakery on Beverly and 3 in la is worth the drive but this bakery I will never waist my time and money again ever! read more
