It's been pretty cold this week, so inside the restaurant was very crowded. However, the staff was still very attentive and got us drinks and sandwiches quickly. The sandwiches were phenomenal, I had a frita which was amazingly flavorful and had the perfect amount of spice in the meat. My girlfriend had the cubano which I tried and it was also very good. Delicious casual dinner- outdoor eating but the portions are ENORMOUS - so sharing would be recommended . Limited menu but everything we had was perfect! I am bewildered by the four and five stars given this place. Dropped in for a look and taste tonight. Difficult place to take in. But folks, if you want to eat good Cuban food, eat where Cubans eat. We were the only Latinos in the place on a Friday night - bad omen. The place is a dump. Dirty concrete floors, bare tables, order outside, grab a wobbly table inside, and they bring the food. And I mean only the food. Grab your own napkins and salt is in packets you have to ask for. There is lots of counter space with stools. You can eat at the counter and looks like a good place for coffee. We had a Cuban sandwich and a pork (lechon). Also had maduros (fried sweet plantain), these go well with pork and other meats. Latino substitute for potatoes. The maduros were mediocre and eight bucks Want to know what they should really look and taste like? Pick up a small package of frozen Goya maduros, pop in micro, and taste the real thing. The pork sandwich was mediocre and pork not really well seasoned. The Cuban was bearable but barely. They were over toasted on a sandwich press that clearly wasn't wiped between sandwiches and left multiple pieces of burned bread on the sandwich which negatively impacted the taste. The "Cuban" bread was blah. Over pressed it tasted like stale bread and too crispy - like eating dry crackers. If Miami's Versailles Cuban is a 8/10, Bodegas is a 1. I don't know, maybe the place has an austere cult following? They get one star for the very nice employees behind the counter and busing food. I remain bewildered but not bewitched. read more

This little place is absolutely amazing! We came across it by mistake and we were pleasantly surprised. Being Hispanic is hard to find good Hispanic food and I can say this place is really good. It was a decent portion and it only cost me $9!! I had Mexican Sprite for the very first time. Apparently Mexican soda is just like American soda except it's made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I felt stupid for not knowing that! Lol. Ok this place does live up to the hype. The Lechon was generous and delicious, with a side of arroz con frijoles negros (rice and black beans) and plantanas Maduros (sweet plantains) (sorry for any incorrect spelling but the app doesn't spell check Spanish) Here you order at the window and there are a handful of cafe tables in front and a few also in the back where you can take your box lunch or dinner to enjoy. The draft beer was fresh and cold. Dos Modelo Por favor! For optimal people watching try to get a table curbside, but be prepared for the hungry folks in line to stare longingly at your food. My wife had pollo asada pressed sandwich which she loved. Fortunately we don't live locally or we would go to Weight Watcher hell for all the cheating! But needless to say we will make this place a must visit whenever we're in St Pete. Btw here is a parking tip: street parking can be challenging to find a spot but there is a small public lot alongside the building and when we visited the parking kiosk was busted, so free parking! Too bad we didn't discover this before we parked 2 blocks away. On the bright side, the after lunch stroll back to the car was welcomed. My favorite Cuban joint in St Pete, if not Tampa Bay. Very casual walk-up storefront with tables on the sidewalk and in the back. Very hot in the summer although you can duck in their AC juice bar next door. Most sandwiches also available as plates with rice and beans and sweet fried plantains. Great homemade sodas. Yes the Cubano is technically not a proper Tampan Cubano, but thats just because Lechon is better than sliced pork. They already make slow roasted pork, why not just throw it on the sandwich? It is everything I love about our corner of the world, condensed into a small shotgun shack and sandwhiched between a kinda trashy gay bar and a tiny, seldom patroned electronics shop that I think only sells speakers for boats or something. Came here for lunch yesterday - it was pretty busy and from what I've read here, that is the norm. And there is good reason. The sandwiches here are ridiculously good! Service is friendly but very efficient. They are taking orders at the window, orders on the phone. Everything is well organized and it went too bad of a wait. Maybe 10-15 minutes? My husband had the cuban sandwich. It wasn't a slab of pork with ham, it was almost like a pulled pork. Succulent and delicious! I had the pollo asada - SCORE! Also got a side of rice and beans which were ok. I came for the sandwiches though! I noticed they did have some indoor seating as well but didnt go in to check that area out. We love coming to Bodega for a quick lunch. We both get the Cubans or pulled pork sandwiches (me with extra mayo) and plantains. Hubby adds the hot sauce and I watch him do it. The bread is fresh, the meat is moist and flavorful, the toppings are snappy. Plantains can be a little dry and they aren't sweet, but they're still tasty. Husband loves the mixed fruit drinks and always goes for the lime flavored one of the day. I stick with main stream stuff I know because their mixes aren't sweet enough for my taste. The only complaint I have - THE ONLY ONE - is that people can smoke while eating there and every one who has is a piggy smoker. The last time we went, this guy lit up behind me, and with the breeze blowing, kept blowing his ashes on me and my food. I ended up throwing half a sandwich away because his cigarette ash blew all over it. AND I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET TO HAVE TO THROW AWAY A PERFECTLY DELICIOUS SANDWICH! Being from south Florida, I've had plenty of Cuban sandwiches in my time, but Bodega officially has THE BEST Cuban sandwich I've ever tasted! The cafe con leche totally hit the spot as well. In case you need another reason to visit this place, know that the service is great, and the place itself is really cute and cozy. It's not a very big place, but there are plenty of options for seating; you can sit right at the counter, outside on the sidewalk, at the to-go bar on the side, or on the covered back patio seating area. Love! This is definitely a new favorite! We ordered the pollo asado and the lechon mojo pork sandwiches. It's hard for me to pick which one I liked best! The pollo asado had fresh avocado and mango and the chicken was incredibly tender and subtly sweet. Delish! The pork sandwich was equally delicious and the pork was super tender. The touch of cilantro was perfect and not overpowering. The service was great and the guy taking our order was friendly and knowledgable. There is seating in front of the cafe and a cover patio with tables in the back. The beer selection was good, with mostly local craft brews, but the only negative was that the draft beer was a little pricey. We'll definitely go back! read more
