I will start with saying the pork and the chicken were delicious. I ordered the plate and it comes with rice and beans and plantains. The only thing edible was the meat, so paying $9.00 for just a little bit of meat was too much. I was disappointed in the beans and rice, they were cold and flavor free. The plantains were dry and tasted like saw dust in side. I will add a side note, the person I was with loved her meal and eat every bite. It was busy and most people seemed happy. This place is one of the fairest priced lunch restaurants downtown. You can sit in the shade, drink a homemade soda or Cuban espresso, and mow down the best cuban sandwich in Tampa Bay. All of their food is super fresh, and I'm pretty sure it's all organic. I haven't had anything here I wasn't pleased with, and I've dined here at least twice a week since they've opened. The service is always friendly. There's parking on the side and they have some local beers on tap. Best Cuban food, with the freshest tastes from fine ingredients. My girlfriend and I have gone to lunch here over 10 times in the last several weeks, and couldn't be happier with the food and service. I've tried all the menu sandwich and platos options, even the vegetarian ones, and haven't been let down on receiving a filling meal (stuffing really, or nice leftovers if I can refrain from gorging myself). That being said, my girlfriend and I both find ourselves always going back to the tried 'n true, pressed Cuban sandwich. The slow roasted pork, sweet ham, and fresh pickles are like none other. Buttered and pressed bread, mayonnaise and mustard all mix with the juices from the meat that make for a delicious concoction that drips from the sandwich with every bite. Only gripes might be that the prices of most menu items are in general a $1 or $2 over most competitors. Yet, this comes with higher quality ingredients and Bodega's prime location on Central Ave. I cannot speak for the juice bar side of things as I have yet to try it, but from what I've seen others order, only fresh ingredients are used and juiced right in front of you, made to order. Finally made it to Bodega today- wish I had gone sooner! Loved my cold brew Cuban con leche and sitting on the sidewalk. Had the Frita burger for lunch- I was covered in its messy goodness. Only thing keeping it from 5 stars is that it was a little pricey for a burger that didn't come with even a simple side, like a pickle or something (come on, we know you have them back there!). There were about 4 people ahead of me when I arrived but didn't feel like it was much of a wait at all. I liked the water dispenser and cups available as a self-serve option. By far one of the best Cubans I have ever had, (I have had many) all the ingredients are super fresh and the portion they put on the Cuban is awesome. Ahh the MOJO pork, yummmmm. The rice and beans are good, I like that they give you a lime with the beans and rice. The coconut marinated chicken plate is unbelievably fantastic! The chicken was perfectly cooked and the flavoring was magnificent! I would rate the plantains one of the best I've ever had. I never knew that if you are in the service industry and you show proof via pay stub they will give you 15% of your total, I think that is awesome they do that. Support the local business!
