I wanted to give this 3.5 stars but couldn't, so 4 stars it is. I recently dined here with some friends, the atmosphere was very relaxing and modern, and the staff was very welcoming and friendly. Our dinner didn't start that great because our drinks weren't as good as the waitress told us. Two of us got the chupacabra cocktail and it was too smoky, kinda difficult to drink, not because it was strong but it felt like we were inhaling mesquite smoke. The appetizers arrived and they were delicious, my favorite app was the fish tacos, and the beet dish, they were both full of flavor and tasted fresh! For my entree I ordered the hangar steak, which lacked a bit of salt, and the arugula salad that came with it was too salty, the fries were good but over seasoned with pepper, and I didn't like the ketchup that much, it had a lot of cumin. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and cooked the right way. The red fish tasted fresh, but didn't taste anything else on the plate. We ordered 2 of the desserts, the pastry chef was nice enough to explain them to us, and also too kind to give us a taste of the bread pudding. They were all really good, but the fennel ice cream was tooooo gooooood! I would totally go back just for that! read more

Appetizer the most flavorful and curious wings I've ever tried with a black gold garlic sauce. Yum! Dinner ... the Almost Bouillabaise...a most flavorful bowl of well executed seafood and catfish for only $18 wow! But who would think a fresh warm chocolate chip cookie six inches in diameter for dessert could get any better but it did. Nothing better than Bodega for a Sunday brunch date! Their mimosas make you want to stay there til dinner, they're mixed with the perfect amount of alcohol and orange juice. Ohh and did I mention they have live music?! I got the chicken and waffles and let me tell you; Those were the BEST chicken strips i have ever eaten in my entire LIFE! Also, their service is as good as their food! They sat us in a booth right away with no wait time! This is a great place to come after work for a drink or dinner with friends. The chief, Andrew, really knows what he's doing as all of the dishes I've tried are fantastic. Randy works wonders behind the bar. I recommend the El Camino as it not only tastes great, but is accented by the hand carved ice cube in the glass. This was my first visit to the restaurant and ordered the pork chops. They were cooked to perfection presented on sweet potatoes, bone in, with creamed spinach on top. My wife ordered the oysters as a meal rather than an appetizer. They were lightly grilled with a presentation with a tasteful hint of acidity. Hmm, well, I've tried this place twice. The first time I tried this place we were with some Restaurant owners from Celaya, Mexico. Sadly they had stomach flu and we were really unable to enjoy ourselves. So I came back with my wife to try the charcuterie again. Considering the size of their drying room I expected a good variety. Sadly that is not the case. The Jalapeño cheese sausage was as good as you can buy at any HEB. The mortadella was bland and the ham was cooked. The mustard seemed right out of the jar. The other sweet sauce with pumpkin and other seeds was better but nothing to write home about. We tried an entree of Mac and cheese with grilled shrimp. Cheese sauce was good but could have gone under the salamander for a bit if browning and the shrimp which had a nice lite char were underdone. The menu has remained the same and we were really disappointed by their use of Catfish on their fish and chips special. All in all the place is clean and modern with extremely hard chairs. "I guess they don't want you to hang out." Will we go again? Disappointedly no! Looking for a great bistro here is difficult. read more

Pretty disappointed in this place. Traveling through for work and found Bodega online with what looked like a great location and cool ambiance. Well, upon arrival, that did not disappoint. The place actually looks pretty cool and has a great feel to it. The bar tender and server welcomed us, brought us menus and water which was nice. Sadly, things went downhill from there. The server had little interest in explaining the restaurant or menu. We had to ask about certain items or availability of beverages. She started to explain but then just resorted to a larger menu for us to read. We just pushed forward and ordered oysters as an appetizer. We also ordered two sandwiches as our entrees. After about 30 minutes, I asked the bartender what the deal was with our appetizer. I had to wave him down and ask as the server was hiding in the back from the tables. I knew this because I could see her as she avoided eye contact. We eventually saw our food sitting in the back and still no appetizer. Needless to say the food was cold when we got it. I then asked both employees why would we not have our oysters then our food. The response was they were busy. Mind you, there were literally 4 other tables. So I explained that if they had brought our appetizer first, this would alleviate the delay with our food and the fact that it was cold or we were hungry. Guess we just agreed to disagree. The server continued to provide little to no help unless we asked her. Sadly the service and disorganization that caused the food delay left us on a bad note. The only reason I went with 2 stars vs 1 star is the fact that the food was actually very good. Our meal: oysters, cubano, and burger. read more

Some friends took us out for dinner at Bodega Tavern this evening. The menu had just seasonally rotated. We enjoyed the refreshing sangria. One in our party tried a local draft beer. I can't remember it's name, but it was dark, with chocolatey undertones. I tried it and it was superb. Our entrees, the NY strip steak and the pork chops, were just perfect. For dessert, we tried the chocolate, chocolate cheesecake, which was delish. Another in our group had the deconstructed pumpkin pie and really enjoyed it. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere and music were both very pleasant. Adam Cavazos, the Chef, was awesome and hospitable. The locally sourced ingredients were super fresh and tastey. Can't get much better than all of that. We all loved the food and experience. read more

We got seated right away, which was great. Ordered guacamole app and the concept is there, but the flavors were not. The guacamole app was bitter. I ordered the pork chop which was truly great. The sides complimented the pork chop well. My date order the ribeye steak which was badly under cooked and chewy! We sent the steak back and it came back chard and still chewy! Not sure how that was possible... We were hoping that they knew how to cook a decent steak with meat curing behind us. Customer service really needs help. Nobody came out to apologize for the steak or even asked us how everything was tasting. We barely got our waters refilled. I will not go back, nor will I recommend. read more

When we arrived to find our reservation lost he came to apologize in person and bought us drinks as an apology (which were FABULOUS)! Loved the drinks, food, and customer service. This is the only restaurant South of San Antonio doing this, but don't take them for rookies...try the 3 meat charcuterie board. I was in town on business a few weeks back and the hotel suggested this place. I love trying local businesses when I travel and this place really impressed me. I had to make time to write a well deserved review. I ordered the Amberjack and the brussels sprouts, it was amazing. The fish had a firm texture and was so moist and flakey. The vegetables in the main dish were really fresh and perfectly cooked as well. The brussels sprouts were as perfectly seasoned as the main dish. The mix of sweet, spicy, salty and crunchy hit all my flavor senses just right. The service was fantastic, everyone was really friendly. The server was very nice and helped guide me through the menu.
