Yum! Can never go wrong with ceviche, and after seeing everyone rave about their B69 - we just had to get it too. Then we shared a Cau Cau (I really enjoyed it when I had it for the first time elsewhere) and the tripe had the perfect texture. I particularly loved the drink, esp since I am such a big fan of passion fruit. The price is relatively standard, service was good considering they had 3 servers running the whole restaurant. The steak was average (a bit tough but had a nice sear) so you could consider trying the tallerin verde with the cheaper milanesa. CEVICHE B69 - This is their signature ceviche that is served with fried calamari. Definitely try this. YUCA FRITA - I love yucca fries and this hit the spot. Yuca was tender and smooth (no stringiness) and came with a nice sauce. SALCHIPAPA - French fries and sausage seem like an odd combo but this works as a filling and tasty appetizer. We got the jar of sangria, which I'm not sure was the best deal..... we got three glasses out of it for $28, whereas one glass is $8. 8x3 = 24..... so..... Our server was so friendly and told us she dreamt of the lomo saltado, and the lomo saltado did not disappoint. We also got some alfajores for dessert. My partner got the veggie saltado with tofu (basically a lomo saltado but without beef and add tons of veggies). Overall, really delicious meal! So glad we found this place. It wasn't crowded on a Wednesday night, but wasn't quiet either. Perfect balance of people, but easy to chat and talk. Reservations: It's possible to reserve a spot online, but for Saturday afternoon lunch we walked in with no wait. I'm not sure if it's busier for dinner, so may consider reserving in case. We used the street parking, but I believe there are also parking garages in the area as well. Food: The food was delicious. We split everything (between 2 people) and it was the perfect amount. We ordered the empanadas, which come with 2 beef and 2 chicken. Both were good, but I liked the chicken a bit more. We also ordered the lomo saltado. The meat was so tender and the sauce was amazing! For dessert, we ordered these cookies with a dulche de leche thick sauce/cream. I forget the name, but they came with 4 so easy to share. It grew on me, the more bites I took. Drinks: I ordered a passionfruit mojito and it tasted like juice! It was delicious. My cousin ordered the cafe con leche and she said it was delicious. While in Pasadena, we had several meals with my son's girlfriend and her mother. Getting dinner reservations for 6 in Pasadena is not easy so if you are visiting, plan as far ahead as you can! There were some places that we could not get reservations at any time but luckily I was able to snag one at Bodegon No. 69, a Peruvian place that was highly rated on Yelp. I was a little nervous because the girlfriend's mother loves latin cuisine, and even though this restaurant was highly rated, I was not sure if that was because the food was Americanized or if it is genuinely local. Happily, the mother proclaimed it was definitely the latter that this was some of the best Peruvian food she has ever had! We started off with the Yuquitas Fritas , Choclo serrano (Peruvian corn with cheese), and a couple of Tamal Peruano. The fries and tamales were big hits! I was hoping the corn would be similar to a Peruvian corn dish that I used to get at Sushisamba in NYC, which unfortunately closed, but this was a lot heavier and the corn was not as sweet. For entrees, we got the Lomo Saltado , Arroz con Mariscos, Arroz Norteno, Ceviche B69, and a grilled pork dish that I wish I could remember the name of because it was SO good. Some pieces were nice size, deliciously decadent chicharron pieces and the rest had a really crisp skin and tender and juicy meat inside. The other dishes were also winners although surprisingly, I liked the Arroz Norteno more than the Arroz con Mariscos, which I did not expect because I was concerned the cilantro and the other seasonings that gave the Norteno more of a dark greenish color would make it too herbally tasting. However, the cilantro was not overpowering and instead gave the dish more depth than the Mariscos. I was worried that we did not order enough but we did not even come close to finishing everything. The two Arroz dishes are sharable, and the pork dish was huge. We ended off with some Peruvian cookies and Lucama ice cream, which everyone enjoyed. I would give 4.5 stars if I could. My only issue was that it was a warm night and they leave the doors open so it was a little uncomfortable, especially eating so much food. read more

Found this place by searching yelp when I was in the area and it did not disappoint... the steak I had was high quality meat and cooked perfectly.. we also ordered a ceviche mixto which was one of the best I've had... decor was cool and interesting the vibe was chill and relaxing. FOOD: It was definitely cool to try Peruvian food, since I hadn't before. - We decided on ordering multiple dishes to share since none of us had been there before. The Choros a la Chalaca ($16) had fresh mussels and a refreshing kick from the red onions and lime juice. The large Peruvian Corn kernels were yummy. - I really enjoyed the Lomo Saltado ($24) because of how tender the beef was. There was a good amount of protein and it paired nicely with the fries and rice, although the fries were a tad soggy upon arrival. - Ceviche B69 ($26) seemed popular so we had to give it a shot. I love seafood, so getting so many different kinds with the fried calamari was quite delicious. SERVICE/AMBIANCE: We decided to make a reservation because we weren't sure how busy it would get for a Friday night dinner, which was a good decision because more people started to pour in. Our waitress was very kind and patient with us since we took a bit longer to decide what to order. However, the AC was either broken or not on when we ate so it felt very stuffy and humid. Peruvian is one of my favorite cuisines owing to its unique mix of many cultures and influences. To start, we tried the empanadas (beef and chicken) and the ceviche mixto. Note that these empanadas are traditional and contain olives! Really enjoyed the flavors but I preferred a different sauce (aji verde) to accompany these. The ceviche was okay compared to other Peruvian ceviches I've tried. The leche de tigre marinade needed more lime and spice for the dish to be more flavorful. As for the mains, I highly recommend the lomo saltado! The beef was incredibly tender. The cau cau, which is a honeycomb tripe stew, lacked the depth I expected out of a stewed dish. The predominant flavor was from cumin seeds (I think). Overall, this was a satisfying meal. Don't skip on the purple corn (chichi morada) drink! The dishes we ordered were also homestyle; you can share them easily as the portions were large. Ordered the following: - Chicken empanadas: 3/5 - Four small pieces. Pastry was flaky as it should be. Not a fan of olives and this one had a strong olive flavor because they put olives in their empanadas. It also had bits egg. I guess that's the traditional Peruvian way. - Arroz con Pollo: 3/5 - Lots of rice, with a pungent flavor (my guess it's the cilantro that gives it its greenish hue). Big chunks of chicken and served with slices of potatoes. Flavor for me was strong and a bit too salty. This is a heavy dish and should not be considered a side. - Aji de Gallina: 3/5 - Interesting dish that has the texture of a thick curry. Lots of shredded chicken. A little salty for me as well. - Chicha Morada: 4/5 - syrupy drink made from purple corn. Flavor is strong, but you'll get used to it. Pretty good. Disappointing Experience! I wish I could say my experience here was enjoyable, but unfortunately, it fell short. We waited for an hour for our food , even though the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. They said there was a party but the restaurant is not even full. The Yuquitas Fritas were a good consistency, the sauce was yummy and creamy, and the green salsa was the perfect amount of spice! The Ceviche B69 was most likely the best thing on the menu other than the classic Lomo Saltado, which my table also ordered. The textures on the plate were all over the place and out of this world delish! Fight for parking around Old Town an award yourself with an experience here. The square block has heavy hitters like Bone Kettle and Perle nearby, but Bodegon No. 69 holds its own. Wifey and I started off with yuca fries and our sours. The Pisco sour was good, but the passion sour was just a step above. Both served stiff too! The chancho al palo was rich, definitely ask for some aji sauce to cut that fat. But make sure your fork has a piece of everything and you'll reward yourself with a little bite of heaven. The lomo saltado was good too. Beef was perfectly cooked. Rice is usually the overlooked part of the dish, but theirs was actually decent and worthy to soak up all that wonderful sauce. I get that in these times of COVID the staff is short on employees so I understand. Found this nice little family ran Peruvian restaurant in Old Town Pasadena. Yelp had lots of good reviews and the pictures look great so I decided to give them a try. It was just myself so I only ordered a drink and one dish. I had the chica marado; Peru's famous purple corn drink and Seco con Frejoles, a braised chuck steak with onions and beans. Great restaurant that had my favorite Peruvian dish, Aji de Gallina, which reminded me of another restaurant I like in Pacific Beach. The Aji de Gallina had delicious pieces of shredded chicken breast covered in creamy Peruvian yellow pepper sauce, pecans, parmesan cheese, with a side of white rice. Shredded chicken was tender and the creamy sauce wasn't spicy from the yellow pepper. A Parmesan added a hint of cheesy goodness. The Tallerin verde con papa a la huancaina had Basil pasta served with Papa Dorado (potatoes) and covered in a creamy huacaina sauce. The pesto pasta was very similar to Italian pasta. We ordered the Seco Con Frejoles, Lomo Saltado, and Chancho Al Palo and they were all delicious. If you like spicy, the green sauce is a must have. If you're wanting delicious braised beef and beans get the Seco. For pork lovers get the Chancho and for steak lovers get the Lomo.
