Bone Kettle has become one of my favorite restaurants, and it's one of those places I keep coming back to because it's consistently amazing. If you come for dinner, do yourself a favor and order the Brussels sprouts, they're only available at dinner, and I genuinely get them every single time. They're that good. The noodle soups are always incredible too. The broth is rich and flavorful, the noodles are perfectly cooked, and no matter how many times I've been, the quality has never changed. That kind of consistency is hard to find and really keeps me coming back. The service is always friendly and the food comes out surprisingly quickly, even when they're busy. I also appreciate that they're a tipless restaurant with a 20% service charge already included. Most of the food was amazing, though I did not try the papaya salad. The sisig is a bit too sour and salty than I expected, but the pork belly in the sisig stood out greatly. As for the pork ribs, the tamarind sauce gave it a big boost. Beef rendang and the carbonara were also great. Service was gracious to us, as we arrived early before our reservation time and the rest of our party did not arrive until five minutes later, they let us in early, though one of the servers gave the rice bowl I ordered a bit later than expected, since I thought it was going to come out as soon as the sisig came. They also gave a drink that one of my party ordered a bit too slow. Atmosphere-wise, we dined al fresco or outside, and it was pretty cool outside, so everything was good. I really wanted to like this place because the maître d' was friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, the food was some of the saltiest I've ever had. The steak and eggs, in particular, was extremely salty and ended up being the most difficult dish for our table to enjoy. We were a party of six, and none of us finished our meals because we simply didn't enjoy the food. The gratuity was automatically added to the bill, which was fine, but I wish the quality of the food matched the overall experience. Like most people, this place has been on my list for awhile. First thing you notice is how big it is. There are tables everywhere. Outdoor seating in the front like half of Pasadena still has from the pandemic days, plus a back courtyard. The building itself is beautiful and definitely adds to the experience. We accidentally showed up during happy hour without realizing it, which worked out nicely. We ordered the wings and lumpia. The lumpia were MASSIVE, basically egg-roll sized. Honestly though, I wasn't really a fan of either appetizer. Of course the broth is the star of the show. That's why you're here. I could have sat there drinking that broth all day. I almost finished the whole thing but ended up saving some to take home because I wanted to experiment with it on other food later. Looking back, I also completely failed my first visit. I didn't even order noodles or rice. That's like going to a burger place and forgetting fries. So part of me feels like I still haven't actually done Bone Kettle correctly yet. The one thing that kept throwing me off was the music. Somebody had on what felt like a 2021 club remix playlist. Maybe that works after 8pm, but for a 5:30 dinner crowd it felt weirdly distracting. The room and the building have one vibe, the music had another. There was also a ton of staff working. They're incredibly attentive, maybe a little too attentive. The water glasses aren't very big, so it felt like every three sips someone was back at the table refilling them. I found it a little distracting at first, but then again, I'd rather have a full glass than an empty one. I'd definitely come back and try more dishes because the menu is huge and there are a lot of things that looked interesting walking past other tables. Then again... this is Pasadena. It's a clean yet flavorful broth that I really enjoy. The lectin here is so juicy and crunch, and the picked carrots and radish pair well to balance the fat. It is a beautiful spot to have lunch, dinner or brunch. We have tried all, but we do love their dinner menu the best. Parking can be a pain, but you will be fine. The place is super clean and new looking, although we have been coming for a few years now. The service is great, from the Hostess to the servers, all were on their game as was the kitchen. Our food was perfect and we have zero complaints. You must try Bone Kettle. It is worth it. It is Asian food and boy is it great. It is upscale Asian and you can taste it in every bite. Their Beef Ribs which is a Bone Kettle signature dish- also has fried shallots, scallions. It is so tender and juicy. I am not in love with their Oxtail dumplings, but they were very good and my grandson is in love with them. They are juicy and just so fresh tasting. Their Rendang Carbonara is a must try. It is 24hr braised shredded short ribs, fried shallots, chives, micro cilantro, parmesan cheese, bell peppers, noodles, bacon and poached egg. You can add bone marrow for about 12$. Do that. Finally, and we love all the food, but the Seafood Char Kway Teow is a must if you like fishcakes. It is rice noodles, pork lap cheong, prawns, fishcake, clams, mussels, calamari, bean sprouts, egg, fried shallots, green onions and great chives and chili oil. It's an Asian Fusion restaurant but we came to eat our all time Filipino food. first of all, everyone was very nice and accommodating. We had a reservation and was seated in front. Our server was also so nice and even itemized and split the bill for us, which I always appreciate with group dinners. Lovely lovely food in a warm intimate setting. I came here once a long time ago and remembered a nice hearty comfort meal in a modern atmosphere. This most recent visit, I came with my dog & toddler so the outside patio was perfect. The continuous stream of car & bus traffic drone out any excess noise my rambunctious toddler made. We ordered just a few things but everything was so good. I took a chance on the green beans and they were not disappointing. Bold in soy flavor but had a sweetness I really liked. I wasn't looking for an authentic experience, I wanted fusion and flavors. My friend and I share a birthday week so we came here to celebrate and feel like gluttons. Here's everything we had: - Lychee dragonfruit lemonade $6 - nice and sweet - Papaya salad $18 - against our first instincts to go with the Thai steak salad (Green papaya, mangoes, tomatoes, chili, cilantro, green beans, green onions, peanuts, Tobiko, shrimp, garlic chips.) Not that much spice, tbh, and very few shrimp. Still good. - Tartare $26 (Charred hanger Steak, pickled mustard greens, shallots, chives, yuzu aioli, sesame rice crackers) Realistically at this point, someone should have told us to slow down. Portions are not overtly generous but they're large enough to share. - Bone Marrow $29 (Ginger scallion confit, sesame oil, baguettes, red endives, baby frisee, apples, pears, citrus dressing) Insane value for this price. I feel like any other restaurant would give you a single bone and you're given three here. The salad and baguettes pair well. Ask for a to-go bag for the bones and use them for your own broth the next day. - Oxtail dumplings* $18 (Oxtail, mushrooms, leeks, sesame, sorrel, San Bai Su, chili oil) Hands down the winner of the night, for the oxtail sauce. A mix of plum sauce, plum wine, vinegar, and addiction. Don't let them take the sauce away from you. Add it to white rice, your soup, dab a bit on your neck to attract divine spirits, etc. - The ramen made with 36-hour bone broth $24 5 oz. of artisanal ramen noodles, heirloom carrots, red onions & cilantro. We added 7oz brisket beef (sous vide for 12 hours with garlic, butter & herbs). Add a soft-poached egg for $3 (thanks to a random server walking by who cracked that open for me) and some white rice for $3 - rice paired well with our leftover oxtail sauce. Bone Kettle adds a 20% gratuity "service charge" to each bill to take care of the tip. I wish I'd brought cash to give an additional tip because everyone was that great. They offered recommendations freely and were always spot-on. So attentive to refilling beverages, as well. You can't add a charged tip to your bill at all, unfortunately! The uncertainty of 3 stars was the total dollar amount - for every add on there's a dollar added to it. It's good, but I feel like I have had better around the 626 area. The food is presented well! The bone marrow is pretty tasty! Drink: I've tried a lychee drink here. The drinks are okay. They are aesthetically pleasing for sure as shown in the photos. However, it isn't mind-blowing. Service: All the waiters and staff were kind and attentive. They refilled our waters and brought our food out in a timely manner. Parking: It's going to be paid street parking most likely. Overall: It's definitely a nice, upscale staple around the 626 area. The inside is really nice and cozy, I liked how the seating along the wall had pillows. I also got the lumpia appetizer, and the sauce that comes with it is really good. We came here for a baby shower. I'm very impressed with the private room setting. It's a bright airy back room that allows a group of 30+ sitting comfortably. The open bar is great! The bar tenders were prompt and friendly. I love my lychee martini. It's a buffet style luncheon and we had a great variety of food: skewers, noodles, ox tail dumplings, cauliflowers, egg rolls and eggs. This place was recommended to me by a friend. I made easy reservations on Yelp and were seated quick once we got there. They didn't require the whole party to be seated which is a plus. The staff overall were great and the ambiance was dim and intimate. One gripe I had was that they offered still or bottled water, but wasn't given the tap option. My boyfriend, who was the only one at the restaurant, was clueless to this concept and said "still." At the end of the night, we were slapped with $7 a bottle on the bill. We had 4 bottles. I was so mad because he didn't know but they also didn't inform him that it was going to be $7 a bottle, otherwise he would have said no. I was wondering why no one ever came to fill our cups but now I know. It would have been nice if they were upfront about the cost. Granted most people who go to $$$ are aware of the cost but not cool to take advantage of the uninformed. Now to the food. I came with a large party so we all ordered a lot of different items and I was able to try a lot of them. -Ube Gnocchi $21 - This was sour for my liking. They were heavy on the lime and small in portion. I think the Gnocchi was well made but personally I would pass this. -Lechon $28 - this was HUGE but it should be for the price. The meat was tender and the flavors were nice. Good one to try. -Soto Betawi $32 - This was a interesting dish. It was a little heavy from the creaminess and oil. The short rib felt overcooked for me. It was hard and chewy. To try sure but I wouldn't order this again. -Rendang Carbonara $24 - This definitely felt like a classic pasta dish. I did enjoy the flavors on this one but again, I felt the short ribs were overcooked. If in the mood for noodles, I would recommend this one. When I pointed out that my silverware was dirty, it was replaced immediately, and hot water refills were handled quickly as well. So why only three stars? This is one of those restaurants that applies an automatic 20% gratuity under the framing of "supporting the livelihoods of our staff." While the service itself would merit a tip at or above that level, I don't appreciate restaurants shifting responsibility for employee compensation onto customers. If staff wages are insufficient, that's an issue for management to address directly, not something diners should be guilt-tripped into subsidizing. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch last weekend and honestly what stood out the most was how incredible the service was. It felt like 5-star Michelin star service. Servers and runners were impeccable. We were so impressed. The food was also fantastic. We had two people order island grill plates, they were also more than willing to accommodate a request to sub out the chicken wing for another piece of protein. Someone else got the steak and eggs and my aunt got the tocino and garlic rice - the tocino was 10/10 chefs kiss, everyone at the table really liked it. Lastly, the bone marrow was also magical. We asked for a few additional pieces of bread for the marrow and they happily obliged at no additional cost. My friend made a reservation for brunch on Sunday and we were seated in the parklet outside the restaurant. They offer a dog menu too which not many places have, and also brought out a water bowl which was so generous. We ordered the turmeric bison jerky for our dog and they brought a whole pack that was unopened so we could feed treats throughout the meal. Items ordered: - Oxtail Hash (5/5): WOW the meat was cooked very well and was very flavorful! Comes with potatoes, bell peppers, mushroom, onions, and eggs. Definitely worth a try! - Artisan French toast with passion fruit, orange, and guava (5/5): I didn't expect the dish to come with so much French toast but each piece was so fluffy and soft. I loved the tartness from the passion fruit flavor and the guava butter was an excellent part of the dish. One thing to note is that the oxtail hash came out a lot later than my friend's dishes, and they even brought out the French toast first so I had already eaten a piece of French toast before my oxtail hash finally came out. Two people's dishes came out in a semi timely manner but the third persons dish came out 30 min after, resulting in them eating by themselves if the others didn't want cold food. When we tried to cancel the order earlier, the server told us it was coming right now and walked away, not allowing us to cancel. When we asked the server to comp or discount the dish, he turned hostile and delivered poor service the rest of the meal service. I appreciate the dog friendly patio and the ambiance but the food either missed the mark or did not impress. My party parked in a parking garage around the corner and walked to the establishment - not the most convenient or cheap. The food did come out fresh and warm which is appreciated and not always the case nowadays. However, they had forgotten the oxtail dumplings and we reminded them while they were grabbing orders before the kitchen closed for the night. They finally brought it out around 20-30 minutes everyone had finished their food... and the taste did not make up for the wait. The Nasi Goring and Rendang carbonara were good but nothing to write home about. The Lumpia and Sisig really missed the mark in flavor. Came here for brunch and it did not disappoint! The salt n pepper shrimp were perfectly crispy on the outside, lightly seasoned, and packed with bold garlicky, peppery flavor and the portion was generous -- definitely enough to share with the table. Balinese Chilaquiles was alright. Didn't like the sweetness to it But adding $9 chicken was kinda pricy! The overall dining experience was great while reservations are highly recommended. One thing to note is that the restaurant is "tipless," meaning a 20% service charge is automatically added to your bill. We ordered the bone both soup with fatty brisket and the eggs benedict with soft shell crab; this is in my top brunch places I've ever had. I love soft shell crab and to pair it with eggs benedict was an nice choice. I really liked the sauce it came with too as it balances out the saltiness and well seasoned crab. The potatoes had so much flavor too and I quite liked the onions that it came with. The bone broth soup had this incredible beefy flavor from the really long cook time that it has.
